Riddle

Here's a riddle for you guys, because I know some of you (including myself) love a good riddle:

Two vacationing couples, Bob and Jen and Dave and Sarah, are flying to a holiday resort on a tropical island. However, their plane crashes in the waves. Bob, Dave and Sarah are washed up another island alive, and Jen is presumed dead.

A month later, having been rescued, Dave walks into a restaurant. There he orders the albatross. Upon trying it, he walks outside, pulls out a gun and shoots himself.

Why did he kill himself?

So, ask a yes/no question, and I'll reply with the answer. You know the riddle rules.

Also, no spoiling if you've already heard this riddle.

...and I think the original riddle didn't have names, but I'm using them for simplicity. :P

I just noticed this detail in the riddle. If they washed up on the same island they were traveling to, as the wording suggests, then I may have another solution.

The three survivors are washed upon the island where they remain stranded for a month. Unbeknownst to any of them, this island is the same island they were flying to before the crash, simply an uninhabited part. Prior to Dave’s rescue, Sarah dies, possibly of starvation or disease. After his rescue, Dave eats an albatross at a restaurant, presumably at the two couples’ original destination. Immediately after eating this albatross, he remembers the wild albatross on the island they were stranded on and realizes that the two islands are one in the same. Concluding that if perhaps he had ventured farther into the island’s wilderness, he would have discovered the civilized side and been able to save not only himself but Sarah as well, he commits suicide out of guilt.

Did I get it this time?

And if not:

Are the two islands the same?

Did cannibalism take place on the island?

Bob lived, but was he actually saved?

Are any of the above relevant to the solution?

Oh, I'm really sorry about that, mixed up my articles.

No, that's not the situation.

The two islands are not the same.

Cannibalism did take place.

Bob was saved.

Yes.

They nommed Sarah, and Dave realized they could have nommed the albatross instead.

Am I right?

No. Why would he need to have to eat albatross later to realise that they could've eaten it on the island?

Did anyone of them know there was albatross or interact with the albatross at the island at all?

Were the two couples close friends?

Was cannibalism the cause of Sarah's death?

There was albatross on the island.

The two couples were best friends.

Umno? She wasn't eaten alive... I might be missing your point though.

There was albatross on the island.

But did the couples eat them or kill them or anything?

Kiotu

No, they did not eat albatross on the island.

Easy: Dave was a vegitarian.

Although why would I kill myself over that. :???:

Has Bob been rescued? (Since Dave is the only one specifically mentioned being rescued...)

Hey Jithra! Yes, Bob has been rescued.

Did Albatrosses bring the plane down? (Fly into the engines?)

Oh, I know this one. I always thought it was a rather weird riddle. And in the ones I've heard, it was always a sea gull. But albatross is so much fancier. :P

I think it's a good one, though. And yes, albatross seems much fancier. :P

Was the restaurant that Dave went to at the town he lived in, or somewhere else.

Was any member of the group eaten and, if so, were they told that they were eating albatross?

Kiotu

Vocals - Irrelevant.

Bfahome - Yes.

So instead of eating albatross they were eating whoever it was that died then when Dave finally ate albatross he realized this and was like "AUGH aagh.gifgun1.gif".

Did Dave accidently eat Sarah, and it was labeled as albatross?

And then he ate actual albatross, and it tasted different? And he thought, "Sarah disappeared! And then we ate 'albatross'! And I thought it was a coincidence!" And couldn't take it and shot himself?

OR. The restaurant is actually run by albatross, and they kill people and sell them labelled "albatross," and they threatened to kill Bob if he didn't sacrifice himself! And the "albatross" was his last meal! And he knew it was human meat but he was so sickened by what he'd already done that he didn't care, and he just gave his life to save Bob! :P

You've got it, but there's one last detail to figure out. He learned that he had eaten Sarah when he ate the albatross.

If only I had been on about a day and a half ago, then I could legitimately say I was the first to get it. :P

Ah well.

So, was it Bob that served Sarah to Dave, or were there other survivors?

(Wait, why am I still asking questions? :P)

Adieu,
