  1. I'm afraid I lost you. Takua doesn't have a crush on Kopaka or Gali! How does Spike's crush make him like Takua? /confuzzled

Not a romantic crush, exactly, but he had that "special bond" with her, and obviously admired Gali. (And Takanuva x Gali is probably the second most popular 'ship invoving Gali among Bionicle fans).Discord is Teridax, although the backstory of Luna and Celestia echoes the Bionicle "creation myth".
  2. Ahh! Too many Pokemon to choose from! Will we able to breed the one that gets chosen? As in, will it be female?

I'm going to guess probably not, given all the previous events. Unless you vote for Blissey or something like that.I want that Zapdos so bad. LighningRod gives you an electric immunity, raises your special attack when hit with Electric moves, AND it still has its old effect of detracting those attacks from your partner in Doubles. I want to run it partnered with a Gyarados.
  3. I find it ironic. There are six main ponies (the mane six :P) and they're all female. But the blue one is the most masculine.

    It's simple.Pinkie Pie = LewaFluttershy = OnuaRainbow Dash = TahuApplejack = PohatuTwilight Sparkle = GaliRarity = Kopaka, I guessIt's no surprise it's so big on here.
Okay, now my head is full of "whining Kopaka" images."I am not whining, brother! I am complaining! Do you want to hear whining? Thiiiiis is whiiiining! Ooh! This exo-suit is so tiiiight! Why don't my elemental powers woooooork? Why do we have to go undergrooooouund all the time? It's so daaaark down here! And this suit is fiiiiilthy! WHY DO I HAVE TO WEEEEEEAR IT?"I'd actually put Twilight Sparkle as Kopaka (Y'know, the whole learning bout friendship thing?). Gali sort of fits with Rarity in that she's the most ladylike.
  4. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is geared towards young girls, but as we all know, a vast majority of the fans are teenaged (or older) males.Couldn't the same be said for BIONICLE? -- :ruru:

Not really. Bionicle's fanbase is not comparable to My Little Pony at all. MLP is actively attracting more and more adult fans, while any adults who like Bionicle do so just because they liked it as kids. Right now, My Little Pony has more teenage and adult male fans than Bionicle ever had. Bionicle just didn't do a lot to bring in new older fans, and it doesn't have the word-of-mouth "advertising" of MLP. I think it could have had that kind of appeal, but it would have required a few changes to the story and format. Actually, I think if I'd suggested that Bionicle should be trying to appeal to a wider demographic in general, and hadn't put "for girls" in the title, I think my suggestions would have gotten a much more positive response.
  5. They've actually teased at three possible love interests for Breez, none of which seem to particularly interest her (Mak Megahertz asked her about Furno and Surge, and Nex seems to have a crush on her too). She went on the radio show to point out that when you're a female character, everybody assumes you're going to be romantically involved with one of the male heroes. She then proudly proclaimed that just because she's a girl, that doesn't automatically have to mean she's a love interest. She has more important things to do! Like... um... uh... talking to the dumb DJ on the radio! And... appearing in soda ads! And... fist bumping Surge... and... Okay, has Natalie Breez done anything plot significant yet? The writers have been really lazy with this character.

  6. I posted a list of things Michael Bay would do in a Bionicle movie in the old topic, but I think some of you would appreciate it, so here it is again:

-Roodaka doing unmentionable things to Vakama.-Solek doing unmentionable things to Kopaka's leg.-The camera doing unmentionable things to Gali's backside.-Pohatu and Lewa reduced to crude racial stereotypes with bad teeth.-Explosions-Onua will be a cantankerous, hunchbacked old man with a Cockney accent. He will also be the only likeable character in the movie, until he sacrifices himself to save Tahu and is never mentioned again.-Large spherical objects suspended underneath the MU robot.-Explosions-Teridax will look like an enormous artichoke.-The battle scenes will look like they were created by a kid with a magnet and a pile of iron filings. And some explosions.-Matau in a G-string.-Explosions-Gali will quit after the first two movies because she's sick of Michael Bay's camera doing unmentionable things to her backside.

  7. I wasn't really trying to say Bionicle needed romance. I was more trying to do an analysis of a show that appeals to both genders, and romance came up as something the other show had that Bionicle didn't. I don't think it's particularly necessary for my (or other girls') enjoyment of the show, but I figured my list wouldn't be complete without mentioning it. Incidentally, in spite of all logic, romance seems to be possible with Hero Factory 'bots. Sure, Natalie Breez denied being anyone's love interest in the podcasts ( It's almost like she read my sig!), but the very fact that she was asked about it in-universe implies that it's possible, if not expected. The sad thing is that poor Nat is not even a love interest. As in, her role in the story is so limited that being romantically involved with another character would be a significant improvement to her importance to the plot.

  8. Probably Lariska. Smart, sarcastic, and dangerous-but-not-really-evil. Hahli and Macku certainly had great potential as characters, but we haven't seen enough of Macku. Hahli is a step in the right direction, but I don't feel that her personality as a Toa was differentiated enough from the other Inika/Mahri. I think that's just because '06-07 were skimping a bit on character development in general (Well, for everyone other than Matoro, at least).

  9. To be honest, I want to like this serial much more than I actually do. I don't feel that the new characters have been developed well enough for me to care about them. They have potential, certainly- for example, Orde representing the idea that having psychic powers can make you asocial and obnoxious... but, the story has not made me care what happens to him. It's hinted that Zaria is a mysterious character that we're supposed to be intrigued by, but he's faded into the background. And Chiara, well, she's obviously meant to be a way of averting the stereotypes associated with female Toa, but all she's really done so far is zap stuff. To have a strong female character, you need strong characterisation.

  10. There are a few points I'd like to make here that I think might broaden the audience to 12+ girls, or younger than that. Sure, girls younger than 13+ are usually interested in Disney Princess and Barbies still, so getting them to notice a toyline brought more to the attention of young boys is going to be hard. At around seven, girls still think that boys are stupid (No offense to the guys here, but that's the truth. :P) and girls rule, so they won't dare put themselves near stuff like Transformers and Bionicle. I, however, did, but only with Bionicle. =P So, here's my first point: Girls don't find the idea of Bionicle appealing because I suppose it has more violence introduced into it. Girls think that violence isn't the best solution to every problem, so less violence and more of a 'friendship' aspect that would come into play would appeal more to girls. Although we couldn't personally alter the story to have less violence, just create more of a friendly atmosphere to attract them more the idea. Secondly: Look at the way the characters look. To girls, they think they're ugly robots. So when they hear the female characters look like that, too, they're bound to saying 'no' if they're offered a female Bionicle set. What can we do to change that? Make the female sets look more feminine, I suppose. The masks could be altered to look more softly curved and rounder than the regular Kanohi (Take Gali Nuva's mask, for instance). The proportions should probably be thinner and shorter, and maybe add some bolts at the bottom of the feet, hm? High-heels, anyone? :P Thirdly: The colors don't appeal to the girls. Sure, we shouldn't have sparkly pink or glitter purple, but at least give more feminine colors than blue. Blue is a great color, but only every once and awhile. Girls sometimes need variety. Why do you think Barbie has so many dresses in her wardrobe? :P Well, those are most of my points for now. =]

I'd agree that it would probably benefit from a few changes in the style of the sets, but putting warriors in high heels just challenges my suspension of disbelief too much. I liked the design and colours of the early sets (Mainly the Toa Mata), and the 2009-10 sets, as they were bright, fun, and even kind of cute. Hero Factory seems to have gone back to that sort of style, which I approve of. I think HF could easily attract a wider audience if they bumped up the quality of the show and added another female character or two. I also agree with the bit about female designs being smoother and more streamlined. There should be a subtle approach to gender differences, rather than pink armour or high heels. I have a lot of female friends who love Avatar:The Last Airbender, but most of them look down their noses at Bionicle. Why is this? What does Avatar have that Bionicle doesn't? I made a list : A TV show (well, duh). This makes the story accessible. I think a big problem with Bionicle is that the story requires effort to access. You have to already be mildly curious about it to buy one of the DVDs or visit a website, (like I said, I only got into it because I was looking over my bro's shoulder) but a TV show doesn't require much effort to find or follow. That said, HF has a show but doesn't seem to be doing any better with a female audience, but the quality of the show is obviously going to be a factor. Human characters: I honestly don't think this is a factor, but I feel obligated to make a note of it. The design of the characters probably does play a role, however, especially when it comes to selling the toys (see my above comments). Romance: Avatar has this, Bionicle does not. Once again, I make this note only out of obligation. Does it have something to do with the number of girls in the audience? Maybe, maybe not. In the case of my friends, I'd probably say "no." In their case, I think it's more about the characterisation and the comedy rather than romance. Which brings us to...Comedy: Now, this isn't really something Bionicle doesn't have, exactly, it's just that humour is a lot more prevalent in Avatar. Both boys and girls appreciate comedy, and, most of the time, can laugh at the same jokes. Humour is gender-neutral, people! (I think comedy is also a huge factor in My Little Pony's male fanbase). More female characters: This, to me, is obvious. Avatar's female characters, such as Toph and Azula, have proved immensley popular with both male and female fans. Once again, quality obviously plays a part, but the very act of including two female characters on a team is forcing a writer to differentiate them. As such, there is much less of the "Token Girl" syndrome. In Avatar's first season, there was only one female character, Katara. She was the calm, gentle one, who alsways served as the Voice Of Reason to those boisterous male characters. In other words, she was just like most of the Toa of Water in Bionicle. But when the writers added more female characters, they needed to differentiate them from Katara, which resulted in a much more diverse female cast. Fewer characters overall: Avatar keeps the story to one small group of characters. Sure, they meet plenty of people along the way, but the main group of heroes starts with only three and ends with six people, rather having multiple groups like Bionicle's Toa teams. When you have a group of five or six characters together, you should be able to see how all of those characters relate to one another. And, in Avatar, you can do that. All the characters have the chance to interact with one another, and you can see their relationships developing throughout the series. With Bionicle's rotating Toa Teams, there often wasn't time to show that kind of characterisation. Hahli and Nuparu, for example, are on the same team, but it would be difficult for even the most die-hard fan to accurately describe how they get along or what they think of each other. I understand that Bionicle is much more dependent on merchandise than Avatar, but there are plenty other toy-driven franchises that don't let selling toys get in the way of characterisation.
  11. Sort of. I'm not really interested in the current storyline, and if Greg said he wasn't able to update the story any more, I can't say I'd be all that fussed. I'll probably still read future serial chapters, if there are any. I don't like the characters in "The Yesterday Quest", but it'd be nice to know what happens to Kopaka and Pohatu. But, despite my apathy towards Bionicle in its current state, I still feel that the line had potential that it never lived up to. I would love to see a reboot of the franchise that restarted the continuity, made a few changes and twists, and tried to appeal to a wider audience. (You're all probably sick of hearing that from me...)

  12. @Skar: Yeah, that's what I meant. Being a school for pegasi and Fluttershy being as fearful as she is, she was probably not at the same level as others. Anyways, one could argue that Rarity's job is more of an obsolete hobby considering most ponies are nude most of the time.Twi's librarian job and Pinkie's cooking at least has some practicality, in comparison.

That's like saying that selling ballgowns and tuxedos is a pointless job because nobody wears ballgowns on a regular basis! As for mental ages, I'd say:Pinkie Pie- 13Rarity- 14Fluttershy-15Rainbow Dash- 15Twilight- 16-17AJ- 17-18
  13. Goodbye, potential convert.

I think it was becoming pretty obvious you weren't going to get him. I mean, you guys have already tried persuasion, charm, and whatever it is Pinkie Pie does. And if someone's determined to dislike bronies, it's pretty unlikely that they'll ever become one, regardless of how many Star Trek references there are.
  14. Calamity's is adorable! Something about the eyes... I tried something like this the other day- I drew a pony'd version of myself in Flash, but the proportions didn't turn out looking very accurate. You did a great job on all of these.
