    Special Relativity

A particle moving through space at the speed of light (i.e. a "massless" particle) does not experience time, and particles that are at rest travel through time at the speed of light. So the next time you feel lazy loafing on your couch or computer chair, just remember that you are traveling at light speed, no matter how fast or slowly you move. This entry brought to you by SCIENCE!
  2. I think the darker green suits you.
  3. I've posted another set review! This time it's Bag End, so head on over here and check out some thoughts on and pictures of this wonderful LEGO set.
  4. "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort."I'm sure many fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were eagerly awaiting the release of this set, and now that it's out, I've decided to review it. Here's a look at the LEGO re-imagining of Bag End.PresentationFrom the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set. The box has a lovely picture of our favorite hobbit hole on the front with the set's cast of characters, including a little box giving you their names. The back has a view of the inside, along with some pictures that highlight details of the home and the fact that you can take the roof off the top. These photos are also on the LEGO shop page and The Hobbit page of LEGO.com.BuildingHalf the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it? The build isn't terribly long, but it definitely isn't short. There are some creative things about this build that I liked, which I'll get to in the design section. A lot of it is fairly straightforward, with a few detail things to worry about here and there (like when to use light green pieces vs. green pieces).Set DesignNow that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here. The interior of Bag End has a couple of cute corners. The one corner has some shelves with jars of somethings sitting by the window and Sting (because he totally had that at the beginning of the book ). There is a treasure chest and a couple of maps on the floor, and yes, the maps are stickers. On the other side we have the dining room table where the dwarves roll dishes and throw food at each other, and in the window is Bilbo's book that he'll eventually write about his adventures (again, with stickers). To the side of that is the fireplace and chimney with a couple pans/pots, along with a broom to keep your hobbit hole tidy. On the outside we have a garden with carrot sprouts growing, a bucket of freshly picked vegetables, and flowers galore all over the house. I do like how they have Gandalf's mark on the door (which is printed, by the way) and the tree on top of the home. And who can forget the bench on which Bilbo first encountered Gandalf? One of the coolest design aspects of this set for me was the window. It is actually not connected by studs to the house, but is instead just sandwiched in with other pieces. The window design looks like this: which just fits into a couple of arch pieces. The characters are pretty cool, too. Let's start with the dwarves. Balin was one of my favorite characters from the books, and I really like how his character was re-imagined for the movie. His LEGO minifigure is very true to his movie form, and his hair/beard piece is really neat. Dwalin is the only dwarf in this set who didn't get a flip face, due to the tattoos that go around his head. His beard is more like the traditional beards that sit under the minifigure's head, and he has what I think is a new type of cape; there's only one hole for the neck to go through, unlike most capes which have two that fold on top of each other. I like Bofur's hat. It makes me think that he's from some snow-filled land where the hottest it ever gets is 10°C. His angry face amuses me, as do most of the angry faces from these minifigs. It's just adorable how he thinks he can be threatening. LEGO really went all out with Bombur's hair and gut piece. Like Gimli, only his eyes and eyebrows are really visible from under his hair/beard. The end result looks very good, though, and in terms of being true to the movie he's one of my favorites. His face is also very jolly, which I like. Now let's look at the wizard who organized this gathering in the first place. This is the same Gandalf minifigure from the Gandalf Arrives set. I like his unique beard piece and new gray color, though I sort of wish his staff were a bit more unique. His face under his beard is nice and looks a lot like Sir Ian McKellen himself. But, of course, Bag End is not complete without our beloved little hobbit. Bilbo Baggins' minifigure is seen here in his leisurely clothes that he has on when the dwarf party arrives at his house, suspenders and all. He's just adorable. His face flips to give him either a happy look or a worried one, depending on how exasperated he is at the dwarves.PlayabilityThe other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with? "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?" This set has a lot of play time in it. My favorite thing to do is recreate various scenes from The Hobbit, but you can also throw in a few scenes from Fellowship if you like. You could also make up your very own hobbit adventure! "Would you like to take some time to hear about our creator, Aulë?" Final ThoughtsOnce it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it? "Can you not do that? You'll blunt them!" This set is beautiful, and anyone who likes hobbits and food will enjoy this set. While the price tag is $60, that's not too bad for licensed set this size.ProsWhat's to like?[*]It's Bag End.[*]Six minifigures, four dwarves.[*]Lots of food and foliage pieces.ConsWhat's not to like? [*]Not an exact replica of Bag End, but who cares?[*]Price tag is $60, but it's worth it.Hopefully you enjoyed this review of our favorite Hobbit home. A True, True Friend

Tekulo: One of these days... HH: Seven, of which 3 I really liked. A True, True Friend, What My Cutie Mark Is Telling Me, and I've Got To Find a Way.
  6. And now all my pictures are there. I have no idea what happened.
  7. I am currently unable to upload photos to Brickshelf, and I'm not sure why. I'm trying to upload a .zip file of pics I want to use for a review, but after a long time of "uploading," the folder I attempt to upload to is empty. I tried doing one photo at a time, but that's failing as well. Anyone else experiencing this?

The setup could have been fleshed out a lot more. It starts in the middle of the fiasco, but I think that was the wrong way to go about it. Had they given a setup of what Twilight was trying to do, how she managed to do it, and how she sought to solve the problem, we would have a great three-act structure that could have been split into two episodes. But that's merely my opinion. It doesn't stop the songs from being awesome.
  9. Confound these ponies! They drive me to sing. I liked the finale, but I kinda wish it were a two-parter. It felt slightly rushed as one episode. Also, SONG OVERLOAD.
  10. I was going to make this a topic when it happened, but unfortunately the forums were offline, so I'll make an entry for it instead. My younger brother, Tekulo, turned 21 this past Thursday, Valentine's Day, so go ahead and wish him a belated happy birthday!

    I should blog more ._.

Still the introduction classes; I think the next thing will be dealing with optics and electiricity. Optics is fun. I'm TA-ing an undergraduate-level optics course. It's a blast.
  12. Demons: When I made this review, I was looking at the set not from a Chima fan's standpoint, but from a general LEGO fan's standpoint. I honestly have no desire to get any of the other Chima sets, but I am glad that I got this one and was rather pleased with the the way the minifigure looks. Whether or not he looked like a clone of one of the other characters, to me, was irrelevant when looking specifically at this set (I was also completely unaware of this, and looking at both their designs there are some differences). The bottom line is that it's a freebie promo set, and it got me a free minifigure, so I can't complain. Tekulo: Sure, sure...you just keep thinking that.
  13. Oh, Howard Shore, your music is wonderful. My favorite tracks, in no particular order, are Blunt the Knives Misty Mountains The Adventure Begins An Ancient Enemy Radagast the Brown Erebor The Edge of the Wild I'm looking forward to the next couple movies and the delightful music they will bring. Also, The Wizard Battle set is totally getting added to my collection when it comes out.
  14. What kind of math? Calc? Geometry? Topology? Complex Analysis? And, I understand. Math/physics can get rather stressful at times. Don't forget to take study breaks, and try not to bang your head against the wall.
  15. I am absolutely loving the Wizard Battle set. Those yellow crystal balls and eye of Sauron will be mine. 8DThe Lone Ranger sets remind me of the Wild West theme; I wonder if they thought now would be a good time to reboot that (kind of like how they rebooted Adventurers in a way with Indy and Pharaoh's Quest...).
  16. I've decided to post this review here, as I'm not sure this fulfills the requirements to actually post this in the LEGO Sets forum. Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set. ] It's a polybag. The front features the set's picture and a picture letting you know that the eagle character you get is Ewar. The back is full of legalese, as per usual, and has a cutout option for a free child ticket to LEGOLAND. Building Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it? At only 33 pieces, this set does not take long to build. Set Design Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here. I would first like to point out that this set came with about 10 extra trans-light-blue round tile pieces, which I thought was ridiculous, but I'm not complaining. The vessel is pretty simple in design, but still rather cool in my opinion. It's like someone combined a snowmobile and a jet ski...and made it fly. The really cool thing about this set, though, is Ewar. First off, Ewar is an anthropomorphic eagle, which ranks up there in awesomeness with anthropomorphic echidnas. He also has a really simple but clever wing-mount that reminds me of the armor of the old Hydronaut figures. This also allows his wings (and those of the other wingèd Chima races) to be poseable, unlike the winged mummy figures from Pharaoh's Quest. I like Ewar's flip face as well; one side has goggles and the other is just his bare face, which has nice detail on it. The design on his torso reminds me a lot of ancient Egypt, and his helmet (head piece?) is really cool as well. Playability The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with? Woohoo! Cowabunga, dude! While it is a small set and, thus, is kinda limited on playability by itself, I'm sure that it makes a nice addition to any larger set if you're building some kind of Chima army or need a new high-tech hover vehicle for your utopian LEGO world. Ewar himself is a cool minifig that also allows for some fun play time. Hey, Einstein, I'm on your side! Final Thoughts Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it? Alas, jetski-snowmobile, you are the only one who listens to me. This set was originally released as a free promotional with a $75 set order from LEGO S@H. It's now on BrickLink for about $5 USD. I don't know if I would personally spend that much money just to get him, but I'm glad I was able to get him through LEGO's promotional. If you're a fan of Chima, go for it. Pros What's to like? Ewar is cool Lots of extra pieces Jetski-snowmobile Cons What's not to like? Small It's a cute little set. If you want to see the gallery, go here when public.

What physics classes are you taking? 8D
  18. You're not the only one; my brother Tekulo likes the original more as well. I think the remix captures a more Discord-like atmosphere, personally. I like his song Awoken, but I'm not sure why. It's mesmerizing. O.o
  19. This is because both the Bionicle movies and MLP hire their voice talents from Ocean Productions. Ed, Edd, n Eddy also has Tabitha St. Germain and Sam Vincent (Flim) as well as other Bionicle movie stars. I don't think this holds true for TLR, though, since those seem to be American voice actors...
  20. As a fan of Ace Attorney and Zero Escape, this game sounds awesome. I have a feeling that the purpose of the school may not be nearly similar to that of the Nonary Game, but it still sounds cool.
  21. Why did it take so long for me to find this? I can't stop listening to it. It captures our favorite draconequus so beautifully. And it's so darned catchy The lyrics are pretty awesome, too.
  22. I just saw this yesterday. I thought it was a very clever way to go about something like this, and I definitely look forward to watching his other contraptions.
  23. I was promised quick thoughts. There are 528 words here. You lied to me.
  24. Yes, we accept PayPal. Are you having a problem? No, I just hadn't gotten that far in the process. My bad. XD
