  1. IC--Sepulchral--Library Sepulchral took a moment to digest that information. Outside of Lucid, none of the names were familiar to him. But then, Lucid's participation was a fair endorsement in and of itself, and a practical guarantee that their intentions, at least, were good. He tucked his pen and paper into a pocket and stood. Noting a large, burly Rahkshi lumbering toward them, Sepulchral was momentarily suspicious, until he took in the student's number of appendages and realized that this must be "Arms". "Very well," he said to them, "I suppose there are six of us now." IC--Beat--Gym "Let's go, then!" Beat said brightly. She turned and ran--almost scampered--in the direction of the armory.
  2. IC--Simon Trigger--Near the Docks "No problem." Simon grinned briefly. He nearly flew away right then--it would have been a pretty impressive exit--but he figured he should stick around until the ex-popsicle was feeling well enough to take care of himself properly. "So...what exactly happened to you back there?" IC--Artemus Schadenfreude/Robert Solder--Hero Factory As Artemus made his way toward the medical wing, he made a conscious effort to banish his disappointment. As usual, all it took was a few minutes of considering the numerous upsides of his situation to get him feeling considerably better, and by the time he had reached his destination he was once again his usual cheerful self. After knocking on the proper door, he obeyed the muffled invitation to enter, and found Dr. Robert Solder with his back to the door, peering intently through a microscope. Artemus shook his head and grinned; the doc never seemed to get tired of examining samples of his symbiote, no matter how little it could tell him. "If you think I'm wasting my time, Artie, you could just say so," Robert interjected without looking up. "Or are you scared to talk back to someone authorized to stick scalpels in you?" "Hardly," Artemus replied, his grin broadening. "I'm just waiting to stop you until you get into the really grotesque, crime-against-nature experiments. Those always make for the best stories." "Well, next time there's a thunderstorm, you'll know where to find me." Robert straightened up with exaggerated seriousness and strode over to the examination table where Artemus had taken a seat. He leaned easily against the wall and pulled a datapad from his pocket. "Now, let's talk about your activity levels for the Tranquis mission." "Pretty average," the Hero answered. "Maybe even a little below average; I got there a bit late. Sliced apart quite a few of those evil brain things, then kept an eye on some civilians holed up in the hotel until they could be evacuated. I did help take down a pair of gigantic villains, but I was late for that, too, so I didn't have to do much." While Artemus talked, Robert ran a specialized scanner first over the tendrils of his right arm, then systematically over his limbs and chassis. "How many brains is 'quite a few'?" "Agh, I lost count. Twenty-five, maybe thirty?" Robert typed a note into his datapad. "Well, symbiote growth for the mission was average, too; well within safety perimeters. We won't need to take too much off," he said, as much to himself as to Artemus, as he darted around the examination room, gathering up the equipment he would need to operate.
  3. One of a new breed of fully sapient Kraata, Sepulchral is an ambitious Rahkshi of density control whose desire to prove himself has given way to a philosophical quest for a more meaningful identity. Alternate angle Front Side Unexpectedly unsettling Daemonic, yet dignified En garde! Sepulchral's page on the Corpus Rahkshi Wiki I started this MoC around six months ago with the sole purpose of building something to wear my trans-orange Mask of Fire. It wound up temporarily set aside due to a lack of the needed parts, but when I finally decided to join Corpus Rahkshi over the summer the half-finished model served as inspiration for the appearance of my first real RPG character. Eventually it more or less became what Sepulchral looked like in my mind. And now that I've finally Bricklinked the necessary pieces, he can make his proper debut at last. As always, comments and criticism are appreciated. Edit: Image linked; please keep embedded images in BBC to 640x640 pixels / 100 kB. -Wind- Edit: Image fixed.
  4. IC--Sepulchral--Library Sepulchral nodded rather absently and pondered. It seemed she didn't have any particular measure in mind for the students who resisted persuasion. By all rights, he should have refused immediately, but some tiny, insistent spark of optimism encouraged him to go along for the moment. Surely there must be others involved in this pacifistic movement. It could hardly hurt to see what they had to bring to the table--and there would be nothing keeping him from leaving if he didn't like what he found. "So," he said casually, "who else is partaking in this little group? Surely it's not just you and I." IC--Beat--Gym "Well, I'll be happy to give you a demonstration," she grinned. "Shouldn't take me long to get it patched up--I just need to get a little extra metal from the armory."
  5. IC--Sepulchral--Library And there we have it. I'm being recruited...for what, exactly? "That sounds lovely on paper," he replied out loud, "but have you any experience with some of the students here? You might win over a decent percentage of the Rahkshi here--perhaps even a narrow majority with the proper oratory. But I'm afraid there are always some who refuse to see any sort of reason." If she could answer that, she might really be on to something...
  6. IC--Simon Trigger--Near the Docks With a final heave, Simon shoved the frozen Hero out of the water and onto shore. Alighting next to the chunk of ice, he took a moment to study it critically. Though it was already starting to crack and melt, the guy inside would probably want out a little sooner. Shooting the ice probably wasn't a good idea, so Simon began smashing at the cracked areas with the edges of his shields. Within a few seconds, the cracks had begun to spread... OOC: And here's that civilian profile I promised yesterday: Name: Robert Solder Job/Location: Doctor/Makuhero City Bio: Though he is essentially a general practitioner, a lifelong interest has led Robert Solder to become an expert on organic life. This came in handy when Hero Factory hired him as Artemus Schadenfreude's personal physician. While not quite as outgoing as his star patient, his relaxed nature and sharp wit make him fairly easy to get along with.
  7. IC--Beat--Gym "It's a--" Beat searched a moment for the name. "A bolas, that's it. You can toss it at someone and it wraps around 'em nice and tight. This one's got some sort of kinetic blast, too, so it's pretty effective. Of course, one of the last guys I fought sliced one of the cables, so I'm seeing about getting it fixed." IC--Sepulchral--Library "Nonviolence..." Sepulchral rubbed his chin for a moment as he considered how to articulate his thoughts. Thankfully, his philosophical studies had largely centered around this manner of subject--after all, violence had essentially been at the root of all his problems since his arrival. "Well, I have concluded that it is an admirable stance, generally speaking. In a better world, it might be universally applicable. However, when one's life, or that of an innocent, is in peril, one has an obligation to avert this danger however possible. And, unfortunately, that sometimes requires physical confrontation-- especially around here," he concluded, issuing the final two words of his statement with a terse, clipped air that implied more disapproval than he was willing to state out loud. IC--Magnum Opus--Causeway/Entrance The painter rolled his eyes in annoyance. Was everyone around here such a philistine that they could not recognize art rising before them? He stowed the tools of his trade with an air of annoyance, took up the glaive he had set against the rocks, and set out toward the school. Within moments, he had alighted before the main entryway, hoping to find a more receptive audience within. IC--Footwork--Infirmary/Halls Footwork decided that he might feel better if he walked off his simmering anger. Fully healed--physically, at least--he hauled himself out of bed and stomped out into the hallway. IC--Nyarl--Refectory Not spotting any of the few people he knew, Nyarl settled at an empty table to eat. As he dug his spoon into the thick grey gruel, he wondered whether there was any point to seeing Palma about his missing eye. OOC: Magnum Opus, Nyarl and Footwork are open for interaction.
  8. Well, I wasn't able to devote a whole lot of time to it, but here's something: Entry Topic
  9. Given all the fantastically detailed entries in the contest, I decided that something evocative but simple was best. Though I didn't have a whole lot of time to sink into the project, I'm reasonably satisfied with the result. Thoughts?
  10. IC--Simon Trigger--Sky/Ocean As Simon descended further, he saw something that helped him decide just where to land: a Hero, floating near the dock, suspended in ice. Switching the pod into auto-pilot and ditching it, he zipped down to the water's surface and began pushing the tiny iceberg, with Cobra Shard still trapped inside, toward the shore. The guy probably wouldn't be in the best shape for a few minutes after being broken out, so Simon wanted to free him on dry land, if possible.
  11. IC--Sepulchral--Library Sepulchral was so enraptured by his own thoughts that it was several moments before he realized that he was being addressed. "Oh, nothing of great importance," he replied nonchalantly, as he folded up the paper he had been scrawling upon. "Just codifying some much-needed updates to my personal philosophy." IC--Beat--Gym "Oh...yeah..." Beat winced. It was clear that things wouldn't be right between them until she told Blade what actually happened on her first assignment, no matter how humiliating the confession was. "Look, I...never actually attacked the village, okay? I spent most of the raid waffling back and forth about whether I should join in or not, and then I took one of their Karzing mortar shells to the face. Lucky I wasn't killed."
  12. IC--Simon Trigger--Descending toward Antropolis As his Pod approached the city, Simon could make out a few obvious trouble spots. The fracas at the docks stuck out, but there also seemed to be a freaking dinosaur stomping around a mile or so further in. Weird. OOC: As soon as I have a bit more time, I'll be whipping up a civilian profile for Artemus' doctor.
  13. IC--Beat--Gym "Hm? Oh, hey Blade!" Beat turned, more than willing to put off her search to reconnect with her first real friend. "Feels like it's been forever, huh? I was just...well..." She held up her bolas indicatively. "...trying to fix something someone else broke, this time." IC--Kaboom--Infirmary "O-okay, but there has to be someone I can see about this besides a Karzing porter," he replied. "My friend has been murdered, Palma. And...and I think I know by who."
  14. DID YOU GET APPROVAL TO USE AUGUSTUS??? Nah, just kidding. Have fun. Thanks. If we ever end up in the same RPG again, you can desecrate my characters' corpses however you please.
  15. IC--Simon Trigger--Hero Factory At first, Simon didn't think he'd be able to go to Antropolis--he'd just been out on a mission, after all--but when he checked, his core levels were still at above 95%. He supposed it made sense; he hadn't really done anything on Tranquis but fly around aimlessly. Hopefully, he reflected as he headed out toward the hangar, this mission would be more to his taste. IC--Artemus Schadenfreude--Hero Factory Artemus, on the other hand, had more than his core to consider: even if he hadn't needed a charge, the doctors would give him an earful if he didn't report in for pruning after every single mission. A bit annoying, but considering his condition, he really couldn't blame them. OOC: Simon is going on the mission; Artemus is not.
  16. Well, Kaboom hauled Augustus' corpse over there a post or two ago. Most of you can probably guess what he's planning, but I'm going to waitand reveal it IC unless someone calls me out on it.
  17. IC--Kaboom--Infirmary Suddenly, it seemed like the infirmary was full of new arrivals, every one of them mewling about a dead body they were hauling around. Kaboom had half a mind to remind them all that his dead body was obviously the most important, and he'd been there first anyway, but that probably wouldn't get Palma over to see him any faster. He settled for a brief glare in their general direction as he laid what was left of Augustus out on a vacant bed. IC--Beat--Halls/Gym Beat soon made it to the gym, and immediately set off toward the armory. She only needed a knife or something, a little extra metal to help fix her damaged weapon. IC--Shrapnel--Halls/Gym Upon slipping into the gym, Shrapnel immediately noticed the scene which seemed to have become the centerpiece of the arena: a single Rahkshi locked in a duel with two larger, extremely aggressive-looking specimens. This might be worth putting off her search through the armory to see. She summoned up a few training dummies to slash at, but was careful to always have at least one eye fixed on the fight. IC--Sepulchral--Library And there it was. Crude, yes. In need of revision, almost certainly. But it was there nonetheless, gazing up at him from his humble sheet of paper as if congratulating him on the culmination of his long hours of study. Sepulchral laid aside his pen in triumph, and ran his hand appreciatively over the cover of the topmost tome in his stack. True, a good two-thirds of the volume was dedicated to refuting the creed that had inspired his own, but that was to be expec--wait. Was he saying all this out loud? Karzahni. He was, wasn't he. Sepulchral let up on congratulating himself and focused on being quiet. IC--Footwork--Infirmary He lay on the bed, still fuming. This was definitely not normal, at least not for him. Why the Karz was he letting a single smug twit infuriate him so much? IC--Nyarl--Refectory Having acquired his slop, Nyarl glanced around for a likely-looking table. IC--Magnum Opus--Causeway Magnum Opus took a step back and admired his handiwork. On the previously unadorned surface of the pillar now lay an impressionistic ocean, stretching into the distance beneath a midnight sky. As he looked on in approval, the Illusion infused into the pigment became active. The waves flowed gently across the surface of the water, and every carefully painted star glistened like a tiny lantern hung in the painted sky. "Voila!" he declared bombastically, half-hoping the nearby students would come over to investigate. OOC: Everyone is open for interaction.
  18. IC--Kaboom--Halls/Infirmary Kaboom sprinted down the last dozen bio of hallway and barged into the infirmary, Augustus' one-armed corpse swinging limply from his shoulder. "Palma," he demanded, letting his voice quaver slightly. "I've got a bad one." IC--Nyarl--Halls/Refectory Ignoring the commotion sounding from down the hall, Nyarl slipped into the refectory and joined the short line. IC--Beat--Infirmary/Halls Beat rose from the bed with a muffled groan, still a bit achy but otherwise in perfect condition. Gathering up her things, she began making her way toward the gym; she wanted to fix her bolas as soon as possible. IC--Shrapnel--Halls Shrapnel paused in her aimless wanderings to consider her options. She was somewhat tired from her scuffle with the Lerahk, but it seemed like a shame to turn in without getting a bit more practice in. Besides, if that fight had shown her anything, it was that she could use a weapon with more reach. She turned and began heading back toward the gym, slightly annoyed with herself for having left it in the first place. IC--Magnum Opus--Causeway His black coat fluttering behind him, the Rahkshi descended toward the uneven pillars of the causeway. As he settled to the ground, he took the chance to examine both the weathered columns and the monolithic structure of the school itself. Crude. Depressing. Overly-utilitarian. Luckily, I'm here to fix that. Ignoring the two or three Students gathered a few bio away, Magnum Opus turned toward the nearest pillar, retrieving a jar of paint as he did so. He paused, considering, then with an elaborate flourish he produced a brush and set to work.
  19. IC--Sepulchral--Library It was all coming together, a solid thing gaining cohesiveness in his mind. Sepulchral retrieved a small volume from one of his many pockets and carefully, rather gingerly, tore one of the blank pages in the back loose. Snatching up a pen that had been left unattended at an adjacent table, he began writing at a rapid clip. IC--Nyarl--Gym/Halls Gathering his chakram up one last time, Nyarl fastened his satchel closed and slipped out of the gym, ignoring the conceited duo near the door, and strode deliberately toward the infirmary. IC--Kaboom--Halls Kaboom hauled Augustus' body toward the infirmary by a rather roundabout route, until he found the sort of place he was looking for: a deserted stretch of hallway free from potential hiding places, with a window opening onto a stretch of beach that was also free from student activity. With a grunt of effort, he dumped the corpse on the floor, unsheathed his cutlass, and began sawing at the dead Rahkshi's right arm, continually glancing around in case someone stumbled across his grisly work. Within a few moments, the limb was severed, and Kaboom tossed it out the window, dropping a few Madu Cabolo after it. He flew down afterwards, but all that was left were unidentifiable fragments of charred armor and incinerated muscle. If anyone had heard the blast, or found the remains and traced them back to him, he could just claim to have been target practicing on Rahi. Zipping back in through the window, he glanced around once more and, satisfied that he was still unobserved, hoisted what was left of Augustus over his shoulder again and made straight for the infirmary.
  20. [Aggh the quote button isn't working for me for some reason] Anyway, Wyrd, regarding Magnum Opus' profile, you're pretty much spot-on. The paintings seem to move, but they're still quite clearly painted onto a flat surface.
  21. Just one more (he said, for the fifth time)... Name: Magnum Opus Variation: Illusion Level: 2 Gender: Male Gear: Magnum Opus seldom goes anywhere without his coat: a copious, ankle-length black leather greatcoat whose interior is lined with countless small pockets. These are invariably occupied with the tools of his trade: jars of paint, palettes, flasks of water, and brushes of all shapes and sizes, as well as a small spray gun. His paints bear elaborating upon, as M.O. has developed a method of infusing the pigments with his natural powers of Illusion, making his already skillful paintings seem almost to come alive. Rendered in his special medium rivers flow, stars twinkle, and leaves rustle in imaginary breezes. Of course, it can't create photo-realistic movement at his level (and his style is more impressionistic, for what it's worth). For purposes of combat, he wields an elegantly curved glaive painted with brilliantly strobing lightning. The shaft of the weapon is about 1.5 bio long, while the blade is half-bio long and features a hook at the base for disarming enemies. Appearance: Beneath his coat, Magnum Opus is a riot of motion. His armor is a deep, rich blue, copiously shot through with veins of fiery reddish-orange--and, since all this is rendered in his illusory paint, the colors seem to actively flow around each other. Personality: Magnum Opus considers art to be the highest pursuit, the lens through which he views the universe. He loves expounding on its merits, often using his own works as an example. While he can be a bit full of himself, those willing to bear with his philosophizing will find that he is also a loyal and considerate friend. Bio: Another son of the Makuta who spawned Footwork, Magnum Opus had somewhat better luck with his mother, if only because he was willing to study combat as well as painting.
  22. OOC: Alex, I think you missed Artemus attacking Ezec and Aza (at the top of page 36).
  23. IC--Beat--Infirmary As she waited for Palma to make her way over, Beat picked up her damaged bolas and examined it. One of the wire cords had been sawed clean through, but otherwise the weapon seemed intact. She could probably fix it by melting the cord back together, maybe reinforcing the seam with a little extra metal, but she wasn't sure Palma would like her doing that in here. IC--Sepulchral--Library As he flipped eagerly through his collection of manuscripts, Sepulchral noted a succession of fellow students straggling into the library. He briefly contemplated relocating to his dorm for further study, but soon decided against it. There was no need to be quite so antisocial, provided this room remained the oasis of quiet it had been since he arrived. IC--Nyarl--Gym Nyarl flung his fifth and final chakram at the target, striding forward to collect them even as it hit. He felt he was starting to master these new weapons. A sudden gnawing sensation from his stomach briefly intruded on his satisfaction, and as he dismissed the training dummy and began picking the rings up off the ground, he decided to visit the refectory as soon as he was finished here. IC--Kaboom-Gym/Halls Kaboom stomped out into the hall, brooding, but came to an abrupt halt as he saw just why Augustus hadn't met him in the gym. "...oh." He crouched down next to the still form, tapped the still shoulder, whispered "Hey, kid?" But he knew right away it was useless. No breathing, too much blood seeping from the kraata case...you didn't need to be a medic to know death when you saw it. Kaboom stood, glancing about nervously. It couldn't have been the boney guy who had done it--there were no limbs missing--but that Takea Rahk could maybe...He paused, shook his head. It might not have been his own enemies at all. Did Augustus even have any enemies? Could he have run into someone who had just decided to up and kill him between the dorms and here? He sighed as he hoisted the lifeless body over his shoulder. The effort he had put into cultivating an ally had all been for naught. He'd gotten rather attached to the guy too, though he wasn't about to admit that. But, he reflected as he set off toward the infirmary, they could still help each other once more. OOC: All open for interaction.
  24. OOC: Really need to get back into the game here... IC--Artemus Schadenfreude--Grand Tranq lobby/hallway Artemus had been searching a few adjacent rooms when he heard the fight breaking out in the hall. His first instinct was to rush in, metaphorical guns blazing, but he shoved it aside, reminding himself of the need to get close and evaluate the situation first. Using his agility to its utmost, he crept silently into the corridor, to see Riot and two other Heroes locked in combat with a pair of hulking villains. He slunk closer, trying to keep to shadowy corners where his dark color-scheme would make him slightly harder to spot. When he was close enough to worry about being heard over the din of battle, he abandoned stealth and charged, ducking low as he swung his bladed tendrils at the rearmost villain's turned back. IC--Simon Trigger--Sky Simon grinned as he finally spotted what was unmistakably the hospital. Hopefully now something would happen. OOC: ...unless the hospital incident ended while I was gone, of course. Is anyone still there?
