  1. I'd love to see Lightning come back as an element. Blue is usually the color of Lightning in Lego's other lines (like Hero Factory and Ninjago) instead of Water. Since Water is now azure, maybe medium blue can be used for Lightning. I'd be ok with a Lightning Toa having Surge's color scheme (medium blue with trans lime bones) If Kopaka and Gali can both have trans light blue, then a Lightning Toa and Pohatu can both have trans lime. And now that gives me an idea. What if we could make our own crowd-sourced Toa? Maybe if the idea gets popular enough, the character might make a cameo in the new story? (I wish)
  2. Tahu's Toa armor is well-drawn, but it seems a little lazy for human versions if they're just people in armor that looks copy-pasted from the sets. I prefer tribal-looking Toa myself. You don't HAVE to do this, per se, but Okoto doesn't seem like a technologically advanced-enough area to have full plate armors. Bionicle looks to be inspired by Mesoamerica this time around (instead of Polynesia), so you could reference clothing and weapons from the Aztec and Maya. Think about the environment the characters live in as well as their fighting style when coming up with designs. Since Lewa lives in the jungle where it's hot and humid, he probably wouldn't wear a lot of clothing. And since his fighting style is acrobatic, too much armor would weigh him down. He might have feathers/flowers in his hair, adopted from the Jungle Okotans. Since Kopaka and Onua seem to be the heavy-hitters now, they'd have a lot more protection to fit their styles. Kopaka would probably wear some sort of fur, and Onua's armor might be decorated with purple crystals from the Okotan mines. Stuff like that.
  3. Oh boy. Oh boy. OH BOY. Where do I even begin? First off, your art is barely visible because of the low quality lighting. If you don't have a scanner then do your comics in MS Paint. Editing in the words on MS Paint looks sloppy and unprofessional. And second, your comic is painfully awkward and unfunny and relies on outdated stereotypes about women to get a laugh out of the viewer. "I'm a girl now, better get to shopping and painting my nails!" Yeah bro, that's not funny and never has been.
  4. I was never able to come up with good Toa Metru designs, so you just get Vakama and Onewa busts here. I wanted Vakama to look younger than Tahu. Physically, he is less bulky, a bit shorter, and overall a lot less macho than Tahu. I imagined Ta-Metru as being Chinese-inspired. Onewa is a sarcastic jerk, so I tried to reflect that in his face. Po-Metru is ancient Egypt-inspired. (Ancient Spherus Magna is too, but there's a reason for that) Nokama is ancient Greek-looking, Matau a Mayan warrior, Nuju is Nepalese/Mongolian, Whenua maybe Turkish (still not sure). But again, don't expect full-body designs of those guys anytime soon.
  5. I wouldn't want existing characters to be changed. I'd rather we get new characters that are female.
  6. You pretty much reiterated what I said earlier. I'm very much against this for the sole reason I don't see the need for this. Making an element female isn't going to change anything. As someone stated earlier, changing the gender of a bunch of background characters, that never were seen or will be seen in story isn't going to have any affect. This whole matter pretty much equates to a pointless, and trivial debate that appeases a small, small majority of the fanbase. Though even if they get this, they still won't be satisfied, it will lead them to just wanting more. Plus it just reinforced the incorrect concept that the story team owes us, and that we should have a say in the story they created, and that they own. Though at least if enough people say 'no' in the polls, one would think they would respect that and not push forward with this trivial and meaningless endeavor. >Making an element female isn't going to change anything. As someone stated earlier, changing the gender of a bunch of background characters, that never were seen or will be seen in story isn't going to have any affect. But the other option would be to genderbend existing characters, and no one really wants that do they? It opens up more options for making characters. That was kind of the point from the beginning.
  7. Oh boy. I'm gonna try and be constructive without being a jerk. You have a cute cartoony style, and I like the coloring in most of your pics. However, I have noticed that many of the characters that you draw have the same face and body type. I think you should experiment with other ways of drawing, because one style doesn't work for everything. And as much as I advocated for some secondary elements to be changed to female, I'm against gender-bending established characters. I wonder...do you not like drawing male characters? Because you've genderbent other Toa in the past. But even if you're gonna keep em all as chicks, Tahu still should be a lot bulkier. The other Toa I can see the resemblance in, but Tahu's design doesn't fit with the original character's personality and body type at all. Also, work on the construction of your faces. Your facial structures are often poorly-defined, and the features of the face are not where they should be. Several of these Toa don't have eyebrows, and Kopaka doesn't even have a nose. And give 'em some muscle structure! Ain't no Toa gonna be punching out skull spiders with those noodle-arms. The outfits that the Toa are wearing don't seem to be connected, they don't quite feel like a unified team. I feel like they should have some design elements that make it clear to the viewer that they're a team. Doesn't have to be the exact same uniform on all of them, but maybe like a pattern or fabric cut they all share? Also I would put a simplified version of their chest emblems on these suits, for more connection to the original sets.
  8. Ok so let me get this straight. My original proposal was to change the gender of Plantlife (because of the typo, it having blue in its color scheme, as well as it being a "nurturing" element) but apparently it's already been published and so would require a retcon. So then T1S comes in and says "hey Plasma wasn't referred to by any pronouns in canon, so it would be able to be canonized as female" So i was like "yeah if that's easier, let's go with Plasma" But then someone digs up a 9-year old post from Greg that "proves" Plasma is male, and would also require a retcon. So if both Plasma and Plantlife would requite retcons, then why can't we switch back to Plantlife? This seems unnecessarily complex.
  9. The first reason (to slightly improve the gender ratio). I don't really care about BS01. I tried to add a poll to this topic 3 times but it didn't go through. Can someone who is a premium member do it?
  10. There is something you don't seem to understand: Greg's answers are official canon, even when they were made on BZP. Greg isn't going to remember a single statement he made 10 years ago. We should be able to get this canonized without a lot of trouble. If it needs a justification "Plasma's power is more dangerous and destructive than Fire, so the Great Beings thought that the gentler nature of females would be able to control its energies more effectively than males."
  11. But fishers, Plasma was never referred to with any gender in official canon. That does not automatically mean it's male. Also, I don't think we need to put the Greg quote from 2006 in the proposal (he's probably forgotten about it by now). Just use the passages that prove Plasma has no pronouns used for it.
  12. How's this for a message? "Hey Greg. A group of fans on BZPower have discovered that the element of Plasma has never been referred to with gendered pronouns in any official media, and thought it would be a good opportunity to have another female element. If Plasma could be canonized as female we would be extremely grateful!" reword if necessary.
  13. Everyone's favorite Agori! (or not) I may have made these designs too simple, but I also don't like adding needless detail either. I'm also conflicted about whether Agori and Glatorian should still have a significant height difference.
  14. *pulls out sword* *growls* *ahem* Yeah, I guess we can... The problem that Greg as a writer has is a "male as default" mindset. To him, a character is male until proven otherwise. And that's kinda gross because it paints females as an "offshoot" of males. Even when he was told that Psionics was going to be a female element, he still wrote a male character. I've been told "g1 is done, wait for g2". And yeah the old story is finished. But g2 hasn't been any better. The only confirmed female character is Gali. Even the Water Protector is referred to with male pronouns on the official Lego website, and if the "passed down from father to son" bit about the Protector's masks is literal, it could mean that Gali is the only female on the island. And that's even worse than g1. At least g1 had an all-female tribe even if the rest were males.
  15. A Toa of Plasma is also in Dark Mirror (in an alternate universe, but still; it's in chapter 8): Apparently no pronouns. Well there we go, there's our opening. Can someone on the LMB petition Greg to make Plasma female then?
  16. I'm just gonna say that way too many of the people here have completely missed the point of my posts and are also being legitimately sexist. I wasn't arguing for all tribes to be bi-gender, or abolishing the gender rule. Did you even read what I wrote? Using a one-off redshirt as an excuse for why a whole tribe should be make is extremely silly. Do any of you actually care about that random Bo-Toa that has no name or personality? Somehow I don't think so. All you're doing is using a non-character to support a flimsy arguement for why retconning a tribe would be "wrong". The arguements of the people supporting the change of one element have been completely twisted and misrepresented by a few users who seem to lack reading comprehension. You are trying to make us defend arguements we never even brought up in the first place. I am not an "SJW". If I was I would be arguing to genderbend one of the Toa Mata or another established character. I have never done that, and don't want that to happen. All this is is simply a way to try and get a little more gender equality into Bionicle without major story revisions. That is all that I have been saying, and it is extremely frustrating that this simple statement has gone over way too many posters' heads.
  17. Wow this thread went off the rails. I specifically suggested Plantlife because there were no named characters. Krakua and Orde are both named characters. Would Plasma and/or Gravity be somehow more acceptable to be genderbent?
  18. Speaking of a poll, I tried to create one when I posted the topic, but it didn't go through. Do I need to be a Premium Member in order to do that? And if not, could a mod edit the topic to put a poll in this topic?
  19. It's not that simple though. Very few series have genuinely genderless characters. They are usually coded as masculine or feminine. Have you ever seen or heard of the show Steven Universe? The Gem race are rock aliens with no gender, but they look and sound feminine and are referred to with she/her pronouns. Would you argue that they aren't really women because they have no physical sex? It's similar with Transformers. If Transformers are all genderless, why do most of them look and sound male?
  20. Guys guys guys. Please don't turn this into another heated argument. We have enough of those. All I was proposing was that one element's gender be changed. Not every element in the MU. I don't want to redefine gender, and I don't want to get into a sex vs gender debate. All i wanted was a bit of representation in a way that wouldn't require major story revisions.
  21. These look pretty cool, though "Destroyers" seem like such a generic name. I know g2 is keeping things simple, but maybe like "the Swarm" or something? Colors are nice and vibrant and I like the weapons they have. Gahlok might need some fins on its feet though, the current ones look like hooves, which doesn't fit with an aquatic creature.
  22. I just checked BS01, and Gravity's gender isn't specified, T1S was right. ((What if we got both Gravity and Plantlife as female elements)) Oh it would've, at least back when Bionicle G1 was still going. A retcon now won't do anything because the story has come and gone with the gender-locking rules in place. Simply retconning the rules won't change that. -NotS I mean, like, was "gender is locked per tribe" even said in-story? I don't recall that being a thing, it was just... assumed since all the water ones were the only girls that tribes were an either/or situation. (also maybe greg saying stuff on the side, but that's not even in-story...) BS01 states for every element except Gravity "All Matoran, Toa, and Turaga of (element) were (gender)." So yeah, all Matoran elements were mono-gender.
  23. The Bo-Toa had no name, no personality, no described appearance. He was guarding the Makoki stone and got taken out by Hakann. If the character was female none of that would change. Bionicle has plenty of male characters. And if plantlife's gender was changed, there would still be a majority of male characters in the Bionicle universe. I would never expect Bionicle to be gender equal, bu this is just making it a teeny tiny bit better. There are 12 elements in total. If Plantlife became female, 4 out of 12 would be female, or 1/3 of Matoran. If the name of Lessovikk's team mattered, and making a polybag set the official appearance of Turaga Lhikan mattered, and a fusion of spider Rahi mattered, then the gender of one element certainly does as well.
  24. Wow I didn't expect all these positive responses! I noticed that there's a bit of an argument over whether Plantlife was really intended to be female or not. I suppose we'll never find out for sure, but consider this: All the confirmed female elements have blue in their color scheme. Water is blue, Lightning is blue and white, and Psionics is blue and gold. Guess what the official colors for Plantlife are? That's right, blue and green. The only male element that has blue in its color scheme is Ice, and even then it's only light blue. And yes it might seem like a minor thing to want to change, but so are pretty much all the other things that have gotten canonized within the last few years. But I think it would mean a lot to a good chunk of the Bionicle fanbase. A few other people have suggested making every MU element male and female. But that would be way too drastic of a change, I wouldn't expect that to seriously become canon. I suggested Plantlife because it has precedent for being female, it has blue in its color scheme, and there would be no named characters that would have to be genderbent. The unnamed Bo-Toa that Hakann takes out doesn't count, because he wasn't an actual character. The same with the Plantlife Toa on Lhikan's team.
  25. Another small update! This time it's Gorast. I wanted the Makuta species to look not quite human. They are bald, have red eyes with black sclera, and usually have odd-colored skin. This is not her mutated form by the way; that still looks like a mosquito. Of course since Makuta are shapeshifters, it's less "mutation" and more "locking them into one form". The Mistika Makuta were eventually driven mad by their loss of shapeshifting.
