  1. Guile's theme, since I'm transcribing it for an assessment and making a backing track to go with it. This degree's the best.
  2. Just wanna say that this is seriously neat. The face is the important part, so pulling that off so convincingly is a serious attention-grabber. Maybe a bit nightmare fuel inducing, however--the whole thing looks like a sinister, deranged robo-mandrill. Very interesting figure, regardless.
  3. While I thought the game was fun, it was certainly far from what I envisioned a third-person, balls-out Metroid game to be--even with all of the nods to previous games. Your dream Other M game turns out to be so awesome, that it actually sells really well and a Metroid movie finally comes to fruition. it turns out to be more of the cutscene bollocks, plus some woefully uninspired action sequences and a load of horrible voice-acting for the villians. The film flops, the entire franchise folds for good and even the 'Other M' apologists give up on everything. Thus begins a mass suicide and legions of terrible cosplayers shoot up schools and malls across the English-speaking population. Now for my previously lacking contribution: I wish that jazz, in all of its "purer" forms, would become mainstream and trendy again, so that I could get gigs anywhere and so that more fresh and exciting things could happen.
  4. At least be creative about it. It'd take a lot for Retro to screw up a game (though, since Miyamoto had to barge in and turn them upside-down, maybe not). Your GBA works jim dandy, but you have to keep putting up with that horrible screen for as long as the thing's working. Never will you experience a better handheld experience, within, say, the last decade.
  5. I insisted on having them stored, because I'm sure I'll want to dig them out one day. Since I have everything from the first two years and then some, I could probably sell the lot for a good price, but I wouldn't bring myself to do that on a whim. I'll probably snap up some of the later sets, because I always wanted to get more ambitious with MOCs and having more different parts will surely help with that. Other than that, I'll probably end up giving them to younger relatives if they ever discover the franchise, but I see that as being highly unlikely. Of course, if I ever manage to build something impressive, then you guys will be the first to know! I'd hopefully end up creating Metroid characters, because that franchise has a special place in my heart. If anyone's seen some especially great examples of such a thing, then I'd be all eyes.

  7. I was pretty religious about collecting everything until the Bohrok-Kal came out. Every new set was a serious moment of excitement for me, then my interest tapered off when I realised that I'd just be adding samey clutter to my then-limited shelf space. Sadly, everything exists in the loft now, but I'd love to get a few choice figures out for decoration. Toa Mata collection + all "gold" masks and a silver Kaukau--I got most of these by happening to badger my parents when they were in town, then my parents surprised me with Gali and Pohatu after a swimming event, which completed the set Turaga collection Rahi collection--the flying bugs were a weak point, but everything else was a serious highlight, with Manas giving me a fantastic capitalist-pig Christmas experience Toa Nuva collection Bohrok collection--I was seriously blown away by the design of these, as everything from the balling to the brutal jackhammer mechanism worked so fluidly Four of the Bohrok-Kal, though none of them did a whole lot for me: Kohrak-KalTahnok-KalPahrak-KalNuhvok-KalThe Bahrag One Exo-Toa, which I got in Legoland and was extremely impatient to build, since I wasn't going to risk losing parts in a hotel room The Boxor, which also gave me my only (discless) gen1 Matoran, which I loved Lehrahk, which I decided to get while in Blackpool or something--at that point, I wasn't really bothered about the figures, but I was always curious to check these things out. I stood in Toymaster with my dad for about five minutes, trying to make up my mind. I became so stressed that I cried and had to stand outside for a bit. I definitely didn't regret buying the figure, as it was the most flexible and stylised main-line figures that I'd seen. Sadly, the compulsion wasn't really there to get the rest, as I wasn't smitten with the suggestion for combined figures and there wasn't much to distinguish the individual figures. After that, love was over, but I still find myself sorely wishing that I'd got the Makuta and Takanuva sets. They looked so different at the time. Anyone feel like they were worth it?
  8. I've never seen an episode of either 'Cosmos,' but I find it really encouraging that the show's being tailored to modern audiences. What's keeping me from watching the reboot is that, while Tyson can be very entertaining in small doses, I'm worried that I'll find both his patter and the show's format extremely hammy and over-the-top. I couldn't even watch Brian Cox' shows, because his narrative style felt patronising. To anyone who can be a bit sceptical like this, would you care to assuage my premonitions and should I just get up an watch it? There's nothing stopping me, other than a vague fear of being disappointed.
  9. Your immense power corrupts your moral compass and you try to overthrow your country's government. Being reckless and misguided, you're quickly brought down by the world's military and hitherto unseen weapon technology. Of course, this isn't before you've killed your friends and loved ones, who only wanted you to live a happy life. Now, if you actually meant to type "unlaminated," then I feel sorry that you'll never experience the joys of shiny Razzle-dazzle. I wish that Retro Studios, or a similarly capable dev, would get a hold of the Bionicle franchise and do to it what they/Nintendo did with Metroid-- exploration and intrigue and all.
  10. Seeing the standard of MOCs and having my 10/11-year-old mind blown by what people could actually make from the pieces--way back when there were far fewer bespoke pieces. Somebody made some crazy realisations of The Four Horsemen, right down to Famine's gigantic black horse. Despite that, it was still a real joy to get feedback on what was basically a nasty Kaita knockoff, replete with a chunky sword-shovel that was made from the weapons of Lewa Nuva and Kopaka Nuva. I had my dad take pictures and everything. Talk about exciting times. Being able to observe the etiquette and mannerisms of more mature members was also an eye-opening experience, which made this community feel like a family to me at the time--as this was my first board, that sort of thing was especially important and helpful. Really can't remember a whole lot of specifics, but back then, every bit of progression in the franchise's story and figures carried a serious amount of weight. I was very glad to be a part of it. Oh also, the mystery surrounding the Rahkshi and Takanuva/Makuta designs was serious hype. They certainly got me excited about the figures. Too bad I only got Lerahk in the end. I'm gonna have to get some closure by buying the rest, one day.
