I agree with -WX- on this one.

Its PG-13. Its goes as far as it can go before reaching R. It isn't going to be ripping heads off and show you the brains and guts. It tried in this one scene, but it didn't look real whatsoever. But you were still caught up in the heat of the movie's intensity, it didn't matter.

Cloverfield is a great movie not because of the gore and violence, but because of the love angle and effort to survive.

... Not to mention the newest American monster in years (because Godzilla 2000 couldn't pull it off)
