  1. I'd have to say 2001. The amount of variety in that wave from the main heroes, to the Rahi, to normal villagers was amazing, and then the story was just so incredibly good. That might be my nostalgia talking though, since my first sets were the Mata. 2007 would probably be my second favorite in that case.
  2. As much as I'd love for a return to the old system (circa 04-07), it almost certainly won't happen. But I do think CCBS will be replaced, or undergo some kind of overhaul, especially if Hero Factory didn't really sell well. Lego obviously doesn't release sales info very often, if it all, but do we know how well HF sold?
  3. I'm going to slightly go against what others are saying and say that while the pieces themselves probably won't be going anyway anytime soon, I think that CCBS as we know it will be going away, or at the very least, will be undergoing some kind of change in the future. I don't think that Jorgen just randomly decided to talk about the future of CCBS in the interview Aanchir linked. It would also help to explain that despite Generation 2 having 3 years of story/content, it only lasted 2 years. This would normally have indicated to me that the theme sold really poorly, but Lego deciding that they want to change or modify something about CCBS would also be a viable explanation for G2s early cancellation. If the Rogue One sets are the last CCBS sets we see for a while, I would not be surprised.
  4. I've posted parts of this elsewhere on other sites, and while I certainly believe that the set designers put their heart and soul into Bionicle, I would say that the reboot on the whole was just weak. I saw someone compare it to some of the recent Hollywood reboots of movies where you have familiar themes and names that came back from G1 like Tahu, Mata Nui, and Makuta, but they're just a shell of what the original was. The names may have been familiar, but the personalities of the Toa were changed ("I didn't slip!"), Mata Nui goes from a mysterious god-like being to a mask maker, and the narration of the comics results in Gali having a male voice. This alienates older fans of G1, and then you combine that with Lego's poor storytelling, which fails to draw in newer fans to G2, and you get a theme that's dead in the water. For example, does anyone remember those that came on CDs packaged in the sets themselves? As a 12 year old, I was beyond amazed at these videos. The island of Mata Nui was a place I wanted to visit so bad, and that was created with early 2000s technology! Compared to what we got with generation 2, and G2 doesn't hold a candle anywhere near to G1. Lego had such a rich story to work with, but they simplified it down to nothing and then decided to make ... a Netflix exclusive TV show? I know Netflix is popular, but there's no guarantee that every 8-12 year old, or whatever the specific target age Lego was going after even has a Netflix account to use. And I haven't even touched on how great and influential the comics were. A 12 year old is going to share a comic with their friends and get others interested in. This is actually how I first became aware of Bionicle. A friend of mine got his Lego magazine about a month before my came and he brought the very first Bionicle comic to school. Even a good Youtube video would have been way easier to share than a Netflix series. In addition, let's face it, Lego didn't bring back Bionicle to make fans happy again, it's 100% a business decision. They specifically state this on their Twitter account in regards to the cancellation .The theme sold well in the past and they were counting on it to sell well again. I think that someone high up in the Lego company thought that they could ride the wave of nostalgia and put minimal effort into the advertisement and story side of Bionicle and wait for fans to come flocking back. That obviously didn't happen.
  5. I can't really say that I'm a fan of the the Toa or the Skull villains, but some of the more recent stuff has really impressed me, particularly the creature of Water and Umarak the Destroyer. All the creatures in general are pretty good. I think I'm definitely more of a fan of the Creature part of CCBS than the Character part. I really have nothing good to say about the story though, so G2 is a big mixed bag for me.
  6. I don't understand this logic at all. To say that Bionicle is not Lego is flat out silly, and frankly, a bit ignorant. I too think Bionicle could have been a bit more recognized than a single image. It didn't need a talking character, but a mask in the background or something slightly more substantial would have been appreciated. But I certainly was not angered by it.
  7. This was back a while ago, maybe in 2003, but I got Muaka and Kane-Ra for $40 and the Manas for $30 from TRU clearance. No idea why Manas was cheaper, they must not have been selling well.
  8. I'm interested in the bundle of all sets from 2007, but wanted to inquire about the shipping cost first since I'm in the US. If I PM you my information, will it be possible to get a shipping quote? In addition, do you happen to have an extra 8998 Toa Mata Nui for sale by itself?
  9. There's a TRU in my area that is quite outdated, rundown and just in a plain bad neighborhood. I'm not too sure how it's still in business. Back in 03/04, I found Manas on deep clearance for 30 bucks and Muaka and Kane-Ra for 40 bucks. No idea why Muaka and Kane-Ra would be higher, but that was nice. They also had that old Kanohi mask holder that I ended up getting for a dollar since there was no price tag. I should probably go back there soon.
  10. If you're willing to sell, I'm interested in purchasing the 14 Misprints for $250.
  11. Either my TNGM or my Copper Komau.
  12. Bionicle is the reason I didn't have a dark ages completely from Lego. And while I still kept up with the story, it wasn't enough to justify me buying the sets. For me, 2001-2004 were the best years. From 2005 and onward, I mostly only bought Titan and enemy sets. For me, the best sets were the ones that were part Technic, part new parts, and is one of the fundamental reasons I don't like the later Bionicle and HF. Bionicle will always have a place in my heart and childhood, and it's the main reason to this day while I still try and complete my Kanohi, Krana, and Kraata collection.
  13. I've found a Lego set once, but never Bionicle
  14. 2001: Gali and Lewa 2002: Boxor or Lehvak 2003: Matoro 2004: Nokama 2005: Voporak (Keetongu, Sidorak, Roodaka) 2006: Vezon & Fenrakk 2007: Nocturn 2008: N/A 2009: N/A 2010: Tahu (All Stars)
  15. The only Bionicle set I have up at my apartment at college is a second Gali Mata I bought for a review. I couldn't bear to take apart my original Gali Mata that I put together in 2001.
  16. Both Gali Mata and Lewa Mata in 2001. Technically, I built Gali first.
  17. I found a Manas and a Muaka & Kane-Ra on clearance in a TRU about 2 years after they should of been discontinued. The TRU was terribly run down, and in a bad part of town. I paid 30 for the Manas, and 40 for Muaka & Kane-Ra, which is absolutely backwards. I think Manas was cheaper since its piece count is about 150 pieces lower than Muaka & Kane-Ra, and the employee wasn't really paying attention.
  18. I just opened a Lewa Nuva and a Fikou Tree Spider today. The last brand new set I bought and opened immediately was a second Bionicle Stars Tahu to put the gold pieces on back when those came out.
  19. Definitely the Rahi. I managed to buy both Manas and Muaka and Kane-Ra on clearance at TRU years ago, but never got any of the smaller Rahi.
