Teal: It's such an awesome color. Of course, we only got a hint of it in Kongu and a Tarakava (plus some pre-Bionicle Slizers), but I for one love teal. It's just...cool. There's no way to explain it.

Who else wants to bring teal back?

In B:Y1, levels will be accessed via the Kini-Nui menu. Each Toa will have separate levels, though the levels are somewhat like short episodes. Each will include Rahi enemies, and if it's viable, a boss-Rahi at the end.

Each Toa will have separate powers to start with. These include elemental powers (these do basically the same thing, though the effects are different) and their mask powers. Starting with one mask (their primary mask), they will gain more powers as they go through levels and find the masks hidden in those levels. Noble Masks will be hidden as well.

Each Toa has a "special ability", which will be accessed by pressing the same button for each character. There should be a limit on how much a Toa can use these - after all, we don't want them abused.

Master of Shadow Matoran has kindly supplied a WIP list. My notes are bracketed and bolded.

TAHU: Can walk on lava, and loses his Life Energy half as fast as the other characters. [i think surfing on lava might be better.]

KOPAKA: When he hits an enemy that isn't a boss, the enemy is stunned/frozen for three-to-five seconds.

    LEWA: Can double-jump.

GALI: Can swim, and therefore cross water. [We probably should have this ability for anyone with a Kaukau, 'cept Pohatu. ]

POHATU: Can go into a PowerRun-mode, which gives him the ability to escape from an enemy quickly.

ONUA: Can use his claws to smash or lift pieces of the environment.

If possible, it will automatically save progress at the end of each episode.

    OTHER

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «AkamaiWairuha I think we'll be able to combine the voices of the constituent Toa for the Kaita, so whoever gets the part of the Toa, in the end, will also have this part.
If you want to audition, or know someone who's not a BZP member who might like to audition, please record an audition consisting of your BZP name (if you're a member and not just a friend, but say who you're a friend of if you are one), your desired character, and then a line that that character says. You can repeat this formula for however many characters you want to audition for.
Please record clearly with little to no background noise, and send me the file via PM. Optimally, it should be in a .wav or a .mp3 format.

I know that there are a lot or characters here, but I think there will be enough interest. Plus, we don't have to use all of the Matoran I listed - that's a best-case-scenario list.

About the scripts: We'll probably include lines from the MNOLG, but we'll also have to script the other lines. If you're a writer or know someone on BZP who is, please tell them about this! We'll compare different scripts in this entry, and compare notes on what would be good to include. That way, we'll get the best of all worlds for the script.

UPDATE: JUNE 28, 2010: Complete update to all voice actors interested. Thanks a million to Sir Kohran for his help on this! I also added a section to account for "other" characters - right now only the Kaita are listed.

Unity has been downloaded, the game will soon be started. However, there is one slight difficulty:

I don't have any 3D models of the Toa Mata.

So yeah. Post it in your blog, put it in your sig, anything: I need to spread the word on this project. It'll never work without the help and support of the BZPower community.

Here are some random ideas for Bionicle: Year One.

Opening sequence: No extra work here, just the already-made '01 video of the canisters falling from the sky, with possibly some drums in the background to increase the intensity. I was also thinking that the video could flash onto the screen and fade out, much like the effect used on the text in those "WE ARE WAITING" banners.

The video continues, until we see Onua explode out of the can. Onua's parts are in the background, and smoke is rising from the canister, as the graphics fade in with the "Play" "Save" and etc.

Actual Gameplay: I have a few ideas floating around, but the main concept is to have it episodic - you complete the first Onua level (a nod to the canceled game that started with Onua's level) and then access other episodes in different Koros, based on different mini-storylines and MNOLG stuff, i.e. an Onua Vs. Lewa level, or a Tahu-underground-with-lots-of-Kofo-Jaga level. You can even go back to already-completed levels for fun or to get more masks.

In each level, you will be able to collect Kanohi masks (and the rare Makoki Stone parts seen only six times throughout the game) and talk to villagers and Turaga.

Once every level is complete and you have collected all of the masks, you choose your Toa and you descend into Mangaia. I was thinking that right before that, there would be a cutaway scene, a 3D rendering of the famous MNOLG sequence where they descend. Different challenges will be thrown at you underneath Mangaia, such as the Shadow Toa and the Manas.

After all of Makuta's cronies are defeated, you fight Makuta for a bit, and if you beat him, a 3D render of the famous Toa Vs. Makuta scene plays, including the part where Takua awakens the Swarms, setting up Bionicle: Year Two …

Okay, here's how it goes. You take two or more emoticons and combine them into a new emoticon. You can post as many times as you like, provided that you do not double-post.

    For example:

Who Wants to be a Millionaire Premier Member?
I'm sure many of you have heard of the US game show "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire", where contestants answer multiple-choice questions to see if they can win a million dollars. Well, this is the Bionicle version, and the top prize? A MILLION WIDGETS, which so happens to be equal to the exact value of Lifetime Premier Membership.

I will be the host of the show, recorded via Skype, a free service. People who have sent me PMs will be sent a 40-question quiz, when they are online. As it will be a combination of how fast you go and how accurate you are, you probably won't benefit from looking up the answers online.

Because it's an online thing, the show's format will be slightly changed, and as such, YOU MUST READ THIS EVEN IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE SHOW. Here are the full rules:

I will ask 15 multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty at the same time as I post them on Skype's chat service for the contestant. These multiple-choice questions will be about 50% Bionicle and 25% LEGO and BZPower. The questions shall have Widget values, abbreviated W.The complete order of Widget values is as follows: 100 200 300 500 1,000 2,000 4,000 8,000 16,000 32,000 64,000 125,000 250,000 500,000 1 million The bolded Widget values are the values that a contestant, if he/she gets an answer wrong afterwards, will win. For example:If a contestant gets one of the 2,000 - 32,000W questions wrong, he/she will end up with the 1,000W prize, which is 6-month PMship. If a contestant gets one of the 64,000 - 1,000,000W questions wrong, he/she will end up with the 32,000W prize, which is 1-year PMship. If a contestant gets one of the 100 - 1,000W questions wrong, he/she will end up with no prize. Contestants will be timed in order to prevent the use of online access to obtain the correct answers. I reserve the right to disqualify anyone from the show if I have conclusive evidence that they are cheating in such a way. The amount of time on the clock will vary the more a contestant gets questions right:From 100W to 1,000W, the time will be 15 seconds. From 2,000W - 32,000W, the time will be 30 seconds. From 64,000W to 500,000W, the time will be 45 seconds. For the 1,000,000W question, the time limit will be the sum of all the player's unused time from the previous questions plus 30 seconds. Contestants have three lifelines to use on the show. They can only be used once per game. They are as follows:50/50: Two incorrect answers are eliminated, leaving one correct and one incorrect one. The clock is momentarily paused as the two are eliminated. Phone the Expert:: Our expert, which will change depending on their schedules, will be another BZP member. This member will be put in your place for the exact same amount of time as you had for that question, except for the 1,000,000W question, where it will be replaced by the "Switch the Question" lifeline if you have not used "Phone the Expert" yet. Double Dip:: The clock is paused and the contestant gives an answer. If that answer is incorrect, the clock starts back up again, and the contestant may not use another lifeline for that question. Switch the Question (1,000,000W only): If the contestant finds the 1,000,000W question too difficult, he/she can use this lifeline. If someone says an answer out loud, I will ask "Final Answer?" A contestant may also state their answer, followed by "Final Answer", so it saves my breath . Once a player has committed to a final answer, he/she may not change it.

Life as a Forum Assistant certainly has its perks: namely, topic closing. It's kind of fun, though I've only closed one so far. If I assisted in Q&A, COT, or GD, I'd be able to close topics on a more frequent basis, but I'm not complaining.

Topic closing comes with a downside, though. Some FAs - like me - are expected to be funny, for some reason. Oh, sure, I could go with two- or three-word closing statements, but that's no fun at all, since they're used all the time by others. The clever and hilarious topic closings go down in BZPower history, right above famous staff name changes and right below inane spam topics.

So, your mission: Write up a topic closing post. Speech? Parody? Story? Nonsensical poetry? It's totally up to you. Post it as a comment here in this entry. The entries will then be divided and placed in polls, and whoever's entry wins will end up as an actual topic-closed post. You can enter as many times as you wish.

You have until September 26th, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time to submit entries - so what are you waiting for? Get writing!

THE ENTRY PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to ...

"What is this?" you might dare to ask. "Why did you name a contest 'fresh salad'? Sumiks, are you mad?" Well, that I most certainly am, but the name does make sense in the context of the contest.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be: Build a MOC with a fruit or vegetable. A real, edible, tasty food item. The MOC must contain a fruit or vegetable as part of its construction - you can't photograph any old creation with a banana making a cameo appearance in the background. That's a no-no.

You will have one month to build, starting today, January 1st, 2012, and running through February 29th, 2012. Voting will begin immediately afterwards.

Enter MOCs using the following form:

    Member name:
    Entry picture:
    Entry topic (optional):

Before I conclude, I'd also like to mention that I have a co-host for this contest: Brickeens will be co-hosting, as he came up with the concept of this contest.

So what are you waiting on? Grab a fruit and start building!

Opening night is upon us in the Major League Baseball season! The Yankees are playing the Red Sox - the Sox mounted a comeback, the Yankees looked like they have it under control, and now the Sox are tied up again. Beckett didn't look good out there, and CC didn't look much better when he was taken out. I am surprised that the game is so high-scoring.

    In other baseball news:

Coco Crisp breaks pinkie - Remember, kids: never slide headfirst into second. Or third. Or home. Or first. Cliff Lee on DL with strain - Maybe this is why the Phillies got rid of him - not only to get Halladay, but also because they saw these problems coming. Rays may have trouble in bullpen - With JP Howell out, the Rays' bullpen will be much more interesting. He was one of their best guys in the pen, and this can only spell trouble for them. also LewaLew you get the BaseBlog one day early

Here is the entry for mask, elemental, and special powers that will be seen throughout the game.
GREAT MASKSHau (shielding) Creates impenetrable force field around player. Can be used for 30 seconds in level.
Kaukau (waterbreathing) Gives the user the ability to breath underwater. Can be used for up to two minutes before user automatically surfaces.
Miru (levitation) This power cannot be accessed from the ground and must be used at the apex of a jump. User goes into flight mode and can use the directional controls to glide on the air for up to 30 seconds at a time.
Pakari (strength) Gives user the ability to crush objects that would normally impede progress. Can be used for 30 seconds in level.
Kakama (speed) Speeds up user to three times normal speed. Can be used for 30 seconds in level.
Akaku (x-ray vision) Uncovers hidden objects so they are in plain sight. No time limit.

    NOBLE MASKS
Huna (invisibility) Gives user invisibility. If Rahi encounter user, invisibility stops and cannot be accessed for two minutes. Can be used for 30 seconds in level.
Rau (translation) Translates Matoran runes into language of your choice. No time limit.
Mahiki (illusion) Gives user power to conjure an illusion of multiple versions of themselves. Each doppelgänger has one HP and attack with only a basic attack. Requires concentration but not as much as the Komau or Matatu; a user can still attack but is slower.
Ruru (night vision) Still open to suggestions.
Komau (mind control) Temporarily controls Rahi of choice. If hit while using, user cannot access it for two minutes. Cannot do anything else while using. Can be used for one minute in level. Controlled characters must be in sight.
Matatu (telekinesis) Gives user the ability to lift objects with mouse and drag them around. Like the Komau, user cannot do anything else while using power. If hit while using, user cannot access it for two minutes. No time limit. if user tries to use mask on friendly characters, said character does something silly.

    ELEMENTAL POWERS
Basic Attack Throws balls of Toa's element at whatever is in the middle-screen crosshairs.
Super Attack Throws stream of Toa's element at whatever is in the middle-screen crosshairs.
Physical Attack Toa attacks with punches and/or kicks at whatever is in the middle-screen crosshairs. Only for Pohatu, Onua, and Gali.
Secondary Attack Toa attacks with another power that he/she has as part of his/her elemental powers. Example:
FIRE: Extreme heat WATER: Moisture AIR: Vacuum EARTH: Earthquake STONE: Avalanche ICE: Extreme cold Each of these can be used only once.
    SPECIAL POWERS
    Listed elsewhere

Recently, there have been many blog entries and much speculation on the end of Bionicle in 2010. There have been many "sources" cited: namely, European fansites.

I, for one, don't trust it. Here's why:

It's easy to misconstrue anything foreign. People who don't know English well, plus horrific translation software, is not much "proof" in my book. In many cases, no quotes are provided. Bionicle's sales are at an all-time high. Why would they cancel a line that lines their pockets with millions every year, while the CEOs are sitting at their desks, twiddling their thumbs? If it was to be canceled, people at LEGO would have known by 2009. Why would they sign a multi-year deal for multiple movies featuring the storylines of sequential years if there would be no 2011? There are more, but those are my main three arguments. Feel free to argue against them.
  17. Sumiki
So let's talk about MOCing. If you've got a few pieces lying around, chances are that you've built something uniquely your own. Regardless of the size of your collection, MOCing is the inevitable result of imagination and ABS plastic. It's why the BBC forum has held so many contests in BZPower's storied history.

Your mission: build something that uses twenty pieces or fewer. (Twenty-one is right out.) With such a limitation, the contest puts a premium on part usage and imagination. System, CCBS, classic BIONICLE, fusion ... the style is up to you. (Just keep in mind that there is a maximum of two entries per member.) Entries should come with an image and a name.

The winner will receive an exclusive engraved brick. (I'm no stranger to shipping internationally.) The entry period ends Saturday, August 15th at 11:59 PM Eastern time.

So what are you waiting for? Get building!
