  1. Or whenever you notice a bit of dust on your sets; that's just my method. My sets are in a smaller room, so dust gathers quickly, but once they're cleaned up it's pretty easy to keep them looking nice
  2. This is GREAT news! Their writing in TLM was top notch, so I'm very excited to have them back at the writers' desk again.
  3. Definitely the Mata head. I love their look, but also because the pre-2002 Kanohi fit snugly on the mouth-piece, they're available in a variety of colors, and the axle connections let you attach to a wider variety of parts than the other heads.
  4. I've had this happen too. First I try using a feather or Swifter duster if the dust isn't stuck on too badly. If it's too much for that I dismantle the set(s) in question, plug up the bathroom sink, and use a little bit of hand soap and warm water to clean the parts. I've never used a dishwasher, but because they get so hot I'd be afraid of warped pieces. To prevent the build-up of dust, get yourself a feather duster and dust your sets once a week; it helps a great deal .
  5. Largely the comics and the first sets, but the teasers leading up to the set releases played a part as well. I remember first seeing the map of Mata Nui with the Toa bios, which caught my attention, and then reading the comic that followed. Oh, the comic! I was enchanted by that very first issue. As for the sets, I knew I wanted Onua first, he was mysterious and strong, while seeming gentle at the same time. The LEGO Magazine stated that Bionicle sets would release in July, but the stores near me didn't get them until August. It was a very long month for this fledgling Onua-nut, but when I finally held that canister in my hands, I was caught hook, line and sinker.
  6. I'll go with sets that I own, rather than just by appearance/assumptions. 2001: Onua (The character that started it all for me ) 2002: Exo-Toa (So cool when you added a Golden Masked Toa.) 2003: Takanuva (Takua and Pewku, and Makuta were close too, but I had such high anticipation for the Seventh Toa!) 2004: Toa Lhikan & Kikanalo (My favorite Rahi to date. So well done.) 2005: Toa Iruini (I didn't care much for this year, but Iruini really stood out to me with the green/gold coloring.) 2006: Brutaka (Since the Toa were such cookie-cutter sets, the titans stood out to me; especially Brutaka.) 2007: Toa Mahri Hahli (Those wings! ) 2008: Takanuva (A shining light in a year where the Phantoka/Mistika let me down. ) 2009: Mata Nui (After seven years, we finally got him in set form! And although I wished he was gold, he's still cool.) 2010: Rahkshi (*sigh* ... hard to call any of the sets a "favorite".)
  7. I'm very excited for next year and based on what I've seen so far, I think we can expect a great first year. I am trying to keep my expectations as neutral as possible though. For me, it'll be hard to capture the wonder and mystery of Bionicle's first few years. I don't want to over-hype myself for the story, creating my own perfect version, then getting disappointed when if takes a different turn from where I thought it would. I'm mainly in super-hype mode for the sets and then giving myself the chance to get hooked on the story.
  8. I haven't built much with the CCBS until this week. Gotta say, I'm enjoying it! Built a Self MOC :)

  9. Just like most others, I'd like to see Takanuva return; but even moreso I want to see the Rahkshi make a comeback. They wouldn't need to be the "offspring" of Makuta or even have the same names; though I would like to see new elemental powers and a design inspired by the Mask of Light movie.
  10. Incredible! You captured its likeness perfectly. Now I'm wishing TLG had released one with the movie, it'd look great on Takanuva.
  11. Haha, I think it goes without saying that Onua will be my first, but I'm also very excited to get Tahu.
  12. Although 2001-2004 were all solid years, 2003 is easily my pick. For me, both the story and sets for Mask of Light are the standouts of the series. I also like the Bohrok Kal's polished look over the originals. The inclusion of the Vahi was also pretty exciting after being so mysterious for two years. 2008 is also a stand-out years in my book, the realization of Mata Nui and the final stages of Makuta's plan were such a huge payoff after seven years of story. The sets, however, left a lot to be desired; it was disappointing to have the six Toa be so disconnected. Though I do really like Toa Ignika and Takanuva.
  13. I own the set as well. My experience mirrors those posted before: A fun build with a great part selection, but a bit awkward in the looks department. I kept the set together for a few weeks before taking it apart and using the pieces for other projects. I haven't been moved to build it since. I much prefer the smaller Mata Nui for displaying with other characters, but I'm glad to own the titan version. Should you decide to purchase one, I wish you the best of luck, they don't come cheaply.
  14. That's good to know! I don't have very much in the way of Hero Factory sets, but I may need to track down some BA heads to play around with.
  15. Gotta love the Cragsters! They may be slow, but they're tough! Shuff very quickly became my favorite Mixel and I like the Max model a lot.
  16. I'd say I toss 95% of my cardboard boxes into the recycling bin unless it's a set I'm really attached to or have collect ability (such as 8998 Toa Mata Nui, UCS R2-D2, The Simpsons House, etc). Canisters almost always stay in my collection, they make great storage. I have gotten lots of polybags and I mostly just collect those, so they rarely get opened unless it's a Minifig or a well designed set I want to display.
  17. Bionicle 2015 has lit a fire in the old MOCer

  18. Hey BZPers, After a while on hiatus I'm happy back on track here at BZPower! My goal is to have a fairly regular blog here, posting once or twice a week, and give my own commentary on news, sets, or anything Bionicle really. Before I get to regular blogging, I should (re)introduce myself. I'm a life-long LEGO fan and builder who's favorite themes are Star Wars and, of course, Bionicle. I started following Bionicle from the first teasers in LEGO magazines and got completely hooked from the first comic book. After following both Kanohi-Power and BionicleZoneCommunity for quite a while, I joint BZPower shortly after the merge and have had a great time discussing, posting MOCs and writing in the Comedies forum. Currently I'm still building with both LEGO System and Bionicle and I love my job working for LEGO Brand Retail. I've seen opinions on both sides of the continuation vs. reboot debate for Bionicle 2015 and I just wanted to share my own thoughts for my initial blog post. Before hearing that the new story was a reboot I was 100% Pro-Continuiation, no reboot for me. I wanted to pick up where we left off and get some new adventures with the old Toa. But then, of course, I heard the dreaded word: Reboot. "No! What about the Glatorian and Matoran? What's to become of Mata Nui? You can't bring Makuta back from the dead!" That's what was going through my head. I cooled off a bit, thought about it, and I realized I'm very much a pro-reboot person. This relaunch is four years after the hiatus with a new development and story team, and as much attention to detail as new writers can bring to a story, there's so much that can go "wrong". The fan base is four years older and to an extend we've all had to move on. In that time we've all thought up our own ideas on what could or should happen next and I think those ideas could get in the way of really enjoying a continuation. So with a reboot, we get a fresh start. New places, characters and stories to explore. We receive a degree of separation that lets us worry less about how Bionicle stacks up against what came before, but rather, lets us be constructively critical about what is to come. The new Onua isn't the old Onua, just like the recent Dark Knight Batman isn't the 90's Animated Series Batman; and that's awesome! Because at the end of the day, I get to rediscover my favorite character all over again and if I miss the "old Bionicle" I can re-enter that world any time I want to.
  19. I've really liked what I've seen so far: The story of two brothers, six heroes protecting villagers, a hunt for masks. It's very Bionicle at its heart, but with some new blood. I'm very excited to see how Ekimu and Makuta's stories play out, as well as meeting the Toa for the first time, again.
  20. I'm very fond of the McToran, but my favorite Matoran design is definitely the MoL era Matoran. Gear functions, articulation and that early Bionicle style really set them apart for me. I always hoped Onepu and Kongu would get updated.
  21. 1) Tahu - Mask, color, weapons, body design; all great and scream TAHU! 2) Onua - Like Tahu, all things are in place...but somehow Gorilla Grodd keeps coming to mind. 3) Pohatu - Design, not so much. But his coloring, mask, and weapons save the day. Boomerangs! 4) Lewa - A Jungle Toa with an ape-like stature and axes? Count me in! 5) Gali - I love the MoL:Movie inspired mask and the color. But her design and weapons are just O.K. 6) Kopaka - White/Gold/Ice-Blue coloring and a wonky-looking shield? Meh. I do like his bulky armor though.
  22. This takes me back to Bionicle Comic #1, which I read over and over again. And even though Kopaka was the featured Toa, Onua stood out to me more than all the others. The LEGO Mania Magazine promised a July release for the Bionicle sets, but it wasn't until late August that they landed in my local stores. I remember very clearly leaving for school and asking my mom to please check at Toys-R-Us for the "Bionicle Onua" set; and when I got picked up from school, Onua's canister was waiting for me in the car.
  23. Front (Large) Head (Close Up) Head (Side) Head (Mask Flipped Up) This is just a quick MOC (a burly Toa of Ice) I built to play around with the new-style masks. I thought I'd share it in case anyone was interested to see the 2015 mask/Glatorian head connection. There isn't much friction between the mask and the head, so it does flop around. Sadly the Glatorian head has to tilt down to accommodate the Tahu Mask, which is a shame because I think the colored heads look pretty cool behind the clear mask.
  24. Awesome! I've always thought of Hewkii Mahri's mask as being difficult to work with, but you've really nailed it! It feels very natural on an elephant-like Toa. Gotta love the trunk as a way of wielding weapons and well as those sturdy-looking feet. Excellent all around!
  25. I'm an AFOL and couldn't be more excited to buy the new sets! LEGO is my main hobby and I've been collecting all sorts of themes like Star Wars, Super Heroes, City, etc. for my whole life. It's a very natural thing for me, and my family and best friends embrace it. That's me though, and while I'll be collecting all of the new sets, it doesn't mean it's the best thing for you. Your expression of fandom could certainly include purchasing all of the new Toa, but you're not limited to that as an outlet. If you're artistic, then maybe fanart or fanfiction could fun to try. Or if you're more in the mood to reminisce or discuss Bionicle, BZPower is a great place to express your excitement with fellow fans. My advice is, come 2015, purchase your favorite Toa. Build it, enjoy it, display it in a cool pose, and see how you feel after that. You may be satisfied and not need to collect more OR you may keep going and enjoy some new adventures with Bionicle.
