  1. Vox and I have agreed to a match between Blitzkrieg Electro and Immanis Kopaka in the Stalactite Village, 4,000W each.

    Strategy:

Items: Golden Armor and Hex Shield, apply bonus point to toughness

Analysis: While Kopaka has higher toughness and mind, Electro has a 10-point advantage in agility, meaning that he will be able to attack more frequently and avoid more of Kopaka's attacks, effectively making up for the toughness disadvantage. The Hex Shield will further boost Electro's longevity while the Golden Armor is there to block the Staff of Sleep, which would be disastrous for Electro in midair.

General: Electro will tilt his body upward and use a burst of electricity from his wings and engine to rocket up into the air and not allow time for a counterattack. Electro will then barrage Kopaka with rockets while he moves near the roof of the cavern right above Kopaka and drops an EMP grenade to stun the Toa. While Kopaka freefalls Electro will use an electric surge to dislodge several stalactites and send them falling after him. Even if Kopaka recovers before he hits the swamp, he will probably not be able to evade them all. Before the dust settles Electro will take the opportunity to create electric armor around his body before Kopaka recovers. After that point Electro will weave around Kopaka's attacks while continuing to hit him with rockets, occasionally doing a corkscrew above the Toa to drop an EMP grenade on him. Any successful attempt to stun the Toa will be followed by loosing more stalactites to drop on him.

    Counters:

Shadow projectiles/impact vision/axe blasts - Block with a combination of the Hex Shield and electric barriers

Shadow chains/claws/other constructs - Electro will generate electric spikes around his body to tear away at the binds

Axonn's Axe - Intercept with rockets to send it off-course and tumbling into the swamp below.

  2. Oh, I meant that each player would choose 6 items from their inventory to bring with them into the tournament. Certain items are already banned from tournaments (they're listed in the first post), but that's generally reserved for items that are really broken (i.e. Staff of Silence). The goal was to make people bring the items that they'll actually use so that their opponents will have some idea of how to counter them, not to make all fighters have uniform inventories.

  3. ...I have a lot of items? O.o

Buuut anyway, for Breez I would like to get +1 in everything, and for Luna +3 Mind and +1 Toughness.

    Zakaro

Nah, my mistake. Although you do tend to get a lot of mileage out of what you have. :)

  4. While I can understand Vox's perspective, I think that this new tournament system is better for the community as a whole. It gives people a chance to go up against fighters that they would not get to face in regular play and keeps the focus on the strategies rather than brute force.

To further even the playing field next month, we could have the participants select a pool of 5-6 items that will be their inventory during the tournament. At the very least that should make it so that people who go up against Canis or me will not have to write as many counter-strategies. :P

  5. Abyssal Phantom vs. Flare

Items: Golden Armor and Rhotuka Launcher (Disruptor and Dark Field), Illegal Refit nullification is active

Analysis: While all the fighters in this tournament are technically equal stat-wise, Flare's higher toughness and slightly better agility will clearly put him at an advantage in a fair fight. Thankfully, Phantom has plenty of dirty tricks at his disposal to keep Flare disoriented and capitalize on his own mind and strength.

General: Phantom will counter Flare's initial attack with a Disruptor Spinner (or several if necessary) while he uses his mind to create a web of shadow threads to entangle and distract Flare while Phantom uses a Dark Field Spinner to change the arena to the Zone of Darkness. The new arena will give Phantom plenty of shadows to work with and hide him from Flare. As an added bonus, Flare's fire powers will probably also make him a target of the Zivon.

Pulling from the shadows of the zone, Phantom will materialize chains around Flare's body, binding his wings against his body and making him crash into the ground. From there, Phantom will cloak himself in shadows and enhance his weapons with shadow energy, tearing away at Flare from a distance with shadow daggers and shadow-infused Sabre Strikers. When Flare escapes the chains Phantom will rise into the air and create a number of shadow panels which he can jump between as he evades Flare, continuing to pelt him with shadow daggers and dodging Flare's attacks until the dark field wears out.

After that point, Phantom will repeat the same pattern.

    Counters:

Fire projectiles - Counter with Disruptor Spinners and block using shadow barriers if necessary.

Disks - Block with shadow barriers

    Molecular Disruption - Golden Armor

Adaptive Armor - Should not affect Phantom's strategy much, assuming that a blackout does not qualify as "blindness."

Zivon - Float high into the air on a shadow panel and let Flare and the Zivon wear eachother down.

Repellers - Block with a shadow barrier or dive out of the way if there is not enough time to form one.

Exo-Toa - The clunky armor will probably just slow Flare down, making it easier to evade him.

  6. Well, at the very least the new system should make this tournament interesting. Fighters with upgrades and large inventories will probably still have an advantage, but it's a nice way to even the playing field and make strategies the focus this time around.

On that note, I will be entering Abyssal Phantom with the following stats:

    Strength: 11

    Agility: 14

    Toughness: 8

    Mind: 15

Also, I would like to buy a Rhotuka Launcher and one pack of each type of spinner.

  7. Canis, Shadowhawk, I'd be more than happy to have champion matches with you guys whenever you're ready.

In the meantime, Pulse and I have agreed to a match between Abyssal Phantom and Alloy in the City-Realm. I am contributing 2,000W, while Pulse is out of widgets.

    Strategy:

Items: Gravity Shield and Evil Brain

Analysis: Alloy has notably higher strength, but at the cost of mediocre agility and toughness. For this reason, Phantom will be avoiding direct combat and instead using the environment and his mind to deal damage.

General: Phantom will use his Sabre Strikers like grappling hooks, allowing him to swing from skyscraper to skyscraper while damaging Alloy with gravity bolts. Over time he will make his way up a skyscraper, then once he is at the top he will trigger the Evil Brain to make buildings near Alloy collapse one at a time (excluding the one he is standing on, of course). With Alloy weakened by the falling debris and blinded by the dust, Phantom will tear away at the chain of a wrecking ball with his Sabre Strikers and shadow daggers, dropping it on the Roborider. Once it has landed on her, Phantom will increase the weight of the wrecking ball with his Gravity Shield, slowly crushing her.

    Counters:
CreateRoads.EXE - Weigh her down with gravity bolts to make her sluggish, then knock her out of the sky with one of the Sabre Strikers.
Projectiles - Block with Gravity Shield or by spinning Gemini and overlaying it with a shadow barrier.

  8. Alright, so far I've had requests from Zakaro and Wraith, so I'll start with those two:

    Blitzkrieg Electro vs. Breez X.0

Items: Staff of Illusion and Gravity Shield, apply Meteor Armor boost to agility

Analysis: Breez is also a high agility/high mind fighter, but due to the class difference Electro has a sizable advantage in both of those stats. For this reason, Electro should not have any trouble evading Breez and taking her down with mind-based attacks.

General: Electro will begin by creating a spherical illusion around Breez which will invert her vision, disorienting her and giving Electro time to take off. From the air, Electro will weave around the arena to make it difficult for Breez to hit him, battering her with electro-rockets and gravity bolts to keep her grounded. Once she is weakened, Electro will set up an electric storm to finish the hero.

    Counters:

Golden Armor - Replace the illusion at the beginning with an electric cage.

Elemental attacks/energy bolts/Cordak - Block with electric barriers.

Blitzkrieg Electro vs. Lava Codec Legend

Items: Staff of Molecular Disruption and Staff of Density Control, apply Meteor Armor boost to mind

    Analysis:

The matchup is similar to the last match, but this time Electro has almost a 20 point advantage in agility and mind. The strategy will essentially be rinse and repeat, as Lava does not have any items that could give him an advantage. Just to be safe, Electro will use the Staff of Molecular Disruption to eliminate Lava's CreateRoads.EXE (Power Lance and Staff of Poison are next in priority, in that order).

General: Electro will turn intangible so that he can take off safely, then he will crush Lava into the ground with electro-rockets and lightning bolts.

    Counters:

Elemental attacks/energy blasts - Block with electric barriers

Wheel talismans - Intercept with rockets.

Yikes, it's easy to get lazy at this level. Probably going to focus on my lower fighters for a while...

  9. Assuming that Electro was registered and won his bracket, I'll take a +5 mind trainer and Staff of Molecular Disruption, buy an additional +5 mind trainer, and also apply the bonus point to mind.

  10. I'll enter Electro this time around...but with a twist!

    One MoC Mocha, no whip.

Electro's transformation will change him from a wasp to something more akin to a fighter jet, sacrificing some maneuverability in favor of raw speed and firepower. His wings will move to the sides of his body and grow bigger and more streamlined, resembling the wing pieces from Kopaka's Phantoka form (in purple). He will also gain similarly-shaped dorsal fins near the back of his torso. His "feet" will be replaced with small wheels for better acceleration on the ground and be able to fold into his body during flight to reduce drag. The back end of his torso will become a turbine that runs off of his electricity powers. Caelum will revert back to a regular throwing arm, while his new reforge will be a weapons system called Sagittaurius. His new weapons will include electro-rockets which can pop out of the bottoms of his wings and be aimed with his electricity powers and EMP grenades which can be dropped from a hatch in the bottom of his torso.

Let's call this new form Blitzkrieg Electro.

  11. Thank you for the match Phaenyx! Although Canis probably deserves the most frightening inventory award. ^_^ It keeps me awake at night....

I would like to use my new money to buy a MoC Mocha for Phantom, turning him into Abyssal Phantom. In this new form, the blades of the Sabre Strikers will be launchable and attached to the "arms" by retractable chains, allowing them to function as mid-range weapons. The Sabre Strikers will need to be a little bigger so that the chains can retract entirely inside the "barrel" behind the blade. His hands will grow moderate-sized claws sharp enough to cut enemies with but that still allow him to grip weapons. His feet will also gain "claws" on the front and back to allow him to grip surfaces better.

Note: This change will not affect matches that I've already posted the strategies for.

  12. After that, I'll begin responding to tournament class champion match requests. Who all do I owe? (<-- Question directed at the fighter's sponsors, not Pahrak. :P)

    Ooh, me! Mememe! pinkiehappy.png

    :lookaround:

...ahem, and my last post has been updated with Phantom's strategy against Lava, so you can call that match whenever you're ready, Pahrak.

Capo Black Phantom vs. Hahli Hordika

Items: Staff of Density Control and Wing Boosters, Illegal Refit is active

Analysis: Hahli has a tough, physically offensive build that far outstrips Phantom in all stats but mind. Phantom's only advantage besides mind is his inventory: Hahli has no Suletu or Kadin and therefore has no means to take away his mental advantage nor to fight him in the air. Phantom's only chance at victory is to avoid melee entirely, staying far out of range and hoping that enough of his attacks connect to wear the Hordika down. Although it will surely not come into play, it's worth noting that Hahli's electrogenisis is technically an upgrade-based ability and will probably be nullified by the Illegal Refit.

General: Hahli will inevitably be the first fighter to attack due to her agility. When she does, Phantom will use his Staff of Density Control to turn intangible and rocket high into the air with his Wing Boosters. Once Phantom is out of Hahli's jumping range, he will pelt her with shadow daggers, wide shadow boomerangs, and exploding balls of shadow. Once she is worn down, he will infuse his staff with his remaining shadow energy and fling it like a javelin at the Hordika, finishing her off.

    Counters:

Airborne melee attacks (jumping) - If Phantom underestimates Hahli's jumping range or she finds some other way to get up into the air, he will spin out of the way and use his shadow powers to create a smokescreen before flying higher into the air.

Laser harpoon/water projectiles/Sonic Shield/electro rocket - Any attack fueled by Hahli's low mind stat should be easy to block with shadow barriers.

  13. Alright, three Champion Matches hot out of the oven:

Capo Black Phantom vs. Dragon Bolt Hordika

Items: Golden Armor and Wing Boosters

Analysis: All of Dragon Bolt's stats besides strength are in the A-class range and all of his items are disabled by the Golden Armor, so this match will probably end quickly.

General: Phantom will start the match by flying onto Dragon Bolt's back, stabbing the Sabre Strikers into the dragon's wing joints, and then channeling a surge of shadow energy through them and into his spine. At the very least, this should damage his wings enough to disable flight. Black Phantom will then fly high into the sky and kill Dragon Bolt off with shadow daggers and crescent-shaped shadow blades.

    Counters:

Items - Golden Armor. 'Nuff said.

Electric fireballs - These shouldn't do much against Phantom's toughness anyway, but just to be safe he will deflect them with shadow barriers.

Capo Black Phantom vs. Luna Galaxia

Items: Gravity Shield and Adaptive Armor, Illegal Refit nullification is active

Analysis: Phantom and Luna have a similar stat distribution, with the former being slightly more nimble at the expense of lower toughness and mind. Denying Luna's Cosmic Slizer bonus point could actually come into play here, as it will keep her from balancing out their agility. Since they both control Shadow, their strategies will probably rely on using their items and melee attacks to deal damage. The Gravity Shield is the obvious choice here, as it will bring up Phantom's toughness while letting him damage Luna with gravity bolts.

General: Phantom will cloak his arms and legs in shadow to boost his maneuverability, increase the damage of his physical attacks, and provide an extra layer of protection against Luna's energy bolts. He will then zig-zag toward Luna while peppering her with Gravity Bolts, lowering her agility further to make it easier for him to avoid her attacks. Once he gets in close, Phantom will do a low roundhouse to sweep Luna's legs out from beneath her, then flip the Sabre Strikers up to throw the Slizer into the air, and finish the combo by jumping up into the air and knocking her into the ground with his flail. When Luna gets up and tries to counterattack, Phantom will manipulate the shadow on his feet to function like a conveyor belt and slide him behind Luna, stabbing her in the back with Gemini's bladed end before backflipping away while blasting her with more Gravity Bolts. He will continue following this pattern of closing in on Luna while weakening her with gravity bolts, executing a series of melee hits, then falling back while slowing her down with more gravity bolts.

    Counters:

Energy bolts/axe blasts/Cordak Rockets - Evade if possible and block when necessary.

Melee - While Phantom can probably dodge or block most of Luna's melee attacks, he can also use the shadows cloaking his body to mix things up (e.g. the "conveyor belt" strategy from earlier).

    Electric Atoms - Adaptive Armor.

Capo Black Phantom vs. Lava Codec

Items: Evil Brain and Hex Shield, Illegal Refit nullification is active

Analysis: Lava is one class higher than Phantom, and he's poured most of his points into mind. Due to the Illegal Refit, the damage from his wheels will be determined by his relatively low strength stat, but Phantom will need to be wary of Lava's elemental attacks. To avoid near-instant death, Phantom will be relying on his Hex Shield to sponge as much damage as possible until he can disable Lava's weapons.

General: Phantom will immediately use the Evil Brain to cause spikes to rise out of the ground, forcing Lava to dodge spikes and hampering his agility. To make matters worse for the Roborider, Phantom will also plunge the arena into darkness so that Lava will not be able to see where he's going and collide with even more spikes. Assuming that the Blaze Lances were not damaged by the spikes already, Phantom will encase Gemini's halves in shadow and send them spinning at Lava's sides, damaging his weapons and hopefully hindering his elemental abilities. After that point, Phantom will continue dodging around the arena while chipping away at Lava from afar with his weapons with faux telekinesis.

    Counters:

Ground heating tactics - Create a cloud of shadow to hold Phantom in the air

Poison Staff - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Fireballs/wheels/heat vision/lightning/axe blasts - Deploy the Hex Shield, channel Shadow energy through it to boost it, and pray that it holds. Hopefully the stadium-wide blackout and evasion tactics will keep it from coming to this.

  14. A good match indeed. Makes me glad I bought the Illegal Refit when I did. :) I will take the all-stats boost for Black Phantom and buy him a +3 toughness trainer too, applying his bonus point to agility. As for his free item, I would like the Evil Brain and to buy a set of Wing Boosters. Finally, I'll buy Electro a +1 trainer in mind and also apply his bonus point to mind.

  15. Alright, let's begin.Capo Black Phantom vs. Tainted Nocturn

Items: Staff of Plasma and Staff of Illusion, Illegal Refit nullification is activeAnalysis: While Phantom and Nocturn have the same stat total, Phantom is more balanced while Nocturn is heavier on the physical end. Between Nocturn's strength and speed, Phantom clearly won't last too long in close combat. Instead, Phantom will take advantage of his high mind to outwit Nocturn and control the match.General: As per usual, Phantom will cloak his rahkshi staffs in shadow and have them float in a defensive position near his shoulders until he needs them. His first move will be to deploy a large field of shadow and fall back to lure Nocturn in.Phantom will then prepare an ambush by softening a patch of ground with his Staff of Plasma and then create an illusionary double of himself on top of it. When Nocturn attacks the clone Phantom will heat the ground further and conjure tendrils of shadow to pull Nocturn down deeper. If Nocturn is not fooled by the illusion Phantom will shove him into the pool with a shadow hand. As the molten rock does continuous damage and the tendrils keep Nocturn immobilized, Phantom will attack him from random positions with plasma blasts and shadow daggers. Every once in a while Phantom will throw his Staff of Illusion and have it boomerang back while cutting Nocturn up or attach Gemini's bladed half to a shadow chain and have it stab at his torso.Counters:Close combat - Phantom will block Nocturn's upper arms with his Rahkshi staves while he blocks his lower arms with Gemini and stabs Nocturn with the Sabre Strikers, then exhale a cloud of shadow in Nocturn's face to blind and suffocate him briefly as Phantom runs away and sets up a shadow field.Plantlife - Disintegrate with plasma.Projectiles- Block with spinning Rahkshi staves or shadow barriers.Kadin - Fill the entire arena with shadow to make flying hazardous and force Nocturn to land.

  16. I actually didn't back anything up, but it looks like everything is pretty much in order. Thanks again, Vox. ^_^

Hm...I suppose I should follow my own advice and keep using Phantom until more people catch up with my other fighters. I'll purchase Black Phantom a +3 toughness trainer and enter him in the tournament.

  17. @Zakaro Ouch, I feel your pain. The worst is when you're in a place with wifi and login page supersedes your post. <_<

    Breez 2.0 (6-E) vs. Electro Spectrum (6-F)

Items: Staff of Plasma and Gravity Shield, apply Cosmic Boost to mind.

Analysis: Breez has a similar stat set to Electro, with notably higher strength and lower agility. Electro will need to be wary of her long-range weapons, evading and retaliating when necessary.

General: Electro will hover in the air and use his staff to superheat the ground beneath Breez, sinking her up to her knees in lava. When Electro cuts off the power of his staff, the ground will quickly cool and harden, trapping Breez in place. Electro will then fly to Breez's blind spot and hit her with a volley of lightning, plasma, and gravity bolts. If and when Breez breaks free, Electro will coat his body in a shell of electricity and continue to snipe Breez from a distance.

    Counters:

Close-range attacks - Whenever Breez comes in close, Electro will knock her away with a plasma whip. Considering that plasma is very dense, this should launch her a considerable distance.

Air attacks - Heat the air to cause an updraft and send the attack off-course.

Zephyrangs - Capture in spheres of plasma, which will drop like lead and melt into the the ground, making the weapons difficult to recover.

Arrows/axe blasts - Block with plasma barriers.

  18. Huh, I notice that there are a lot of female champions this month. Well, let's get to it. *cracks knuckles* Hahli Hordika (6-A) vs. Electro Spectrum (6-F)

Items: Shield of Gravity and Subzero Spear

Analysis: Electro has an 18-point advantage in agility and a 23-point advantage in mind. I think it goes without saying that Hahli won't be lasting too long. General: Electro will stun Hahli with a close-range electromagnetic pulse and then fly into the air. He will spin in a wide circle around the Toa, pelting her with lightning, ice daggers, and gravity bolts.

Kiina (6-B) vs. Electro Spectrum (6-F)

Items: Subzero Spear and Repellers, apply Cosmic Boost to agility.

Analysis: While the stats of the fighters involved would normally make this a cakewalk for Electro, Kiina's Nui Stone could flip the tables entirely (knew I should have gotten Adaptive Armor...). Assuming that the Nui Stone affects all stats and that the averages are rounded down, Electro and Kiina's new stats will be:

    Strength: 15

    Agility: 29

    Toughness: 19

    Mind: 25

Thankfully, the stat boost from being a Cosmic Slizer will allow Electro to retain an edge in agility, or if nothing else it will counter Kiina's Lightweight Armor. Electro will be using his element, items, and physical attributes to get any edge he can over the Glatorian.

General: Electro will charge in and slash Kiina across the torso with his Repellers, electrifying them to deal extra damage, then he will spin and use his tail to sweep Kiina's legs out from under her. Next, he will drive the Subzero Spear into the spot where he slashed her earlier, activating the staff to make ice expand from the hole and completely cover the Glatorian's body. While she is momentarily incapacitated, Electro will build up electricity before releasing it in the form of a titanic electric burst that will launch Kiina high up into the air. After that point Electro will fight more defensively, staying high up in the air and weaving around Kiina's attacks while pelting her with lighting and electrically charged disks.

    Counters:

Water projectiles - Electro will use his Repellers to reflect Kiina's first major water attack back at her, electrifying it to hit her with the full force of their combined mind stats. After that, Electro will dodge as many of her attacks as he can while blocking those he can't with electric barriers. Ditto for her heat vision.

Lightning shield - Electro will simply take control of the electricity and force it to contact the ground, thereby negating it.

Zakaro, Flaredrick, I assume you're accepting champion matches?

  19. I'd like the Repellers as my free item. For the stat trainers, I'd like to give the +1 toughness and mind trainers to Electro, applying the bonus point to mind. That leaves Gali with the strength and agility trainers, which become +2s due to the Hordika boost.

  20. I suppose I could increase the price of the Golden Armor, although since Keizah already has one... Assuming I understood that correctly, you're asking for a +5 agility trainer? Gotta go fast

Yes. To be fair, I'm sure any attempt of mine to pronounce Japanese words would be equally ridiculous. :D

Yes, one could argue that... but it has the side benefit of preventing the use of Staves of Molecular Disruption, by far the most common metagame-counter counter (for Suletu and the like). So just take a low Mind and high everything else, then bring a Suletu and Golden Armor... well, I think you can see where this is going.

Huh, that does sound familiar. I wonder why no one has tried doing that before. :P
  21. Well, one could make the argument that occupying an item slot while having no other functions is justification enough, especially if your opponents predict that you will bring it and leave their staves at home. It also has the downside of preventing the user himself from using staves. That said, it is cheaper than many of the things it is meant to counter, particularly the Staff of Silence and elemental staves.*sees Flare' s stats*(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻No! I mastu be zeh fastas! Plassu faivu agility turaina!
