  1. Oh hi thar. I was just scanning the blogs (once in a blue moon thing now) and the name "C. S. Lewis" jumped out at me; I'm a huge fan. :)

Dude, it's been a long, long time. I'm glad this title did catch your eye. =P What's up?

Weeeell.... plenty of stuff, including school (wrapping up my last semester of High-school this Spring, then off to college!), reading great books (including Lewis' Space Trilogy), and various other projects (including my non-profit) Also random video games and the like. ;) What about you?

In answer to your question about the Narnia series being for kids, the answer is yes and no. Lewis originally wrote them as kids' books, but they really transcend ages and are wonderful for any and everyone. Lewis packs alot of truth into his works, and each one is really a work of art. So yes, be sure to read them.

As to the order, the only thing I would say would be to be sure to start with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe first, followed by Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, and The Last Battle. The Magician's Nephew is a prequel of sorts, telling the history of Narnia, and The Horse and his Boy aren't part of the main storyline—it takes place sortof in the middle and is more of a side adventure. So as long as you start with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and read those first five in order, you're good to go.

Eeko mentioned Lewis' Space Trilogy; I'm actually half way through them myself (got the books for Christmas), and thus far all I've had to say is "wow." The pure creative genius Lewis exhibits is extraordinary—he creates whole worlds from (what seems to be) scratch. Truly marvelous.

And as to The Screwtape Letters: all I have to say is yes, Yes, Yes! This work is one of his best by far—so insightful about the Christian walk and how demons/temptation relate to us. Wonderful stuff here. :)

Keep up the good reading! :D

Also man, please take a look at my latest MoC if you like: clicketh ^_^

  3. but just running iPhone OS on it is silly

iPhone without a phone, no less.

Actually this thing would make a really cool video chat device, but don't think it can do that.

Sadly, you are correct. They had the audacity to leave the webcam off. Silly Apple. =/

I must say, it just looks like an overgrown iPhone to me. I was hoping it would actually run Mac OS (which would make it really worth it) but no, they have to go and make you work through Apps. *sigh* My laptop is plenty good for me, thank you. I mean, it might be convenient for trips, but work? Not really.

  4. Ah yes. I remember seeing this a while ago in another entry.

Let's see. First impressions... (and these might be a bit rambly)

I quite like the right arm's design and I second what Arpy about investing in a new Metru Torso. The left arm is just... odd; mainly because it's almost an upside down version of the right arm (though not quite). The wrist spikes are niffty too and I think that they are fine in silver, but you will definitely want to even out your color distribution; currently your silver is mostly in the upper torso and weapons.

His torso looks a bit flat, like he got sat on by a Kikanalo or something. The bulky hands give the impression of muscle, but you really don't find that anywhere else in the MoC and his proportions look odd. To be more specific, his proportions length wise are fairly good (up and down) but it's the width and diameter that needs work. He needs a bit of beefing up (especially the legs), and I would definitely recommend either shortening the arms several studs or lengthening the legs (I would go with the arms if it were me).

The Mata Nui weapons on the shoulders look cool, but the silver Mahri armor on top doesn't quite fit; might I recommend getting some dark green Nuva shoulder armor pieces? Or, Matau's shoulder armor would work just as well. That Piraka foot needs to come down (you've already mentioned that though), and the legs definitely need work.

Personally, I don't like the "leg on leg" design here; that is, you using leg pieces on top of other ones for armor. As to the weapons, the boomerang looks very cool, but it doesn't look practical at all. I mean, how's he gonna throw it? Could you use different weapon types to scale it down in size but keep the concept? I like the shield; keep that.

One last thing. I know that the whole reason that you are building this guy is so you can use your nifty new Prototype piece (and I can't say that I blame you) but all the same the head looks very small on this MoC. I was looking through your Brickshelf folders and saw the original Glatorian sized guy you built with the helmet; that worked very well. I think it could work on this guy though. :)

All told, this guy shows promise but he needs work for sure. He is just a WIP at the moment after all. ;)

I look forward to your finished product, and I will try to get you those pictures this weekend. ^_^

  5. ..... What're you tryin' to say, GBG??? That this was a random moment of goofiness? :P And you and the word bouncing in the same sentence seems to be an oxymoron....

    :kaukau: -JG

lol, why in the world would it be an oxymoron? And no, I don't literally bounce all over the place (I kindof exaggerated), but I do have random goofy moments. ^_^

  6. Might I just point out that there is a fundamental difference between hating math and hating to do math. You see, without that fine subject we would definitely be bereft of many, many of the modern technological advances that we enjoy today. Computers would not exist, and therefor by extension *gasp!* BZPower would not exist either. It is one thing for you to hate doing the subject, but to hate it entirely? That's different, and not very healthy. ;)

(note that you didn't say it Niki, a few other members did though)

I for one enjoy the subject. ^_^

  7. Well I have my most squirrelly moments when I've been indoors and reading alot for the past several days and I have a very large amount of built-up energy that simply needs to be expelled somewhere. That's when the random moments of goofiness begin coming on, and I start to bounce all over the place. :P

I totally know where you're coming from about the foraging moments though. I do those all the time.

  8. Nifty. I wish BIONICLE sets had gotten as complex and involved. :(

Ah well. Nice purchase! I especially like the red one's color scheme and face. lol, the green one's face looks confused.

So, do the little robots get in the chest of the larger ones to control them? It looks that way...

  9. Well, with the Inika leg, the ankle is set on an axis aligned with the knee joint. The front of the leg hugs this axis pretty tightly, whereas the back flares out. While the hand on your MOC is aligned with this axis, it's got the flared bit up in front of it, sort of like a fin on the top of his arm, which looks odd.

If you're set on the claws, might I suggest the newer, larger ones seen in the Atlantis sets? Guardian of the Deep has four in white and several more in black, plus some other nice pieces.

One other thing I noticed is that the gun arm, unlike most of the rest of the MOC, is smooth. Really smooth. I'm all for keeping the gun, but I would suggest putting some greebles, or at least less-smooth parts in between, so it's like =[[greebles]]o, where [ are the circular parts you've got and o is a ball joint.

Aha! I think I finally understand what you're getting at. You had me confused talking about the "front" and "back" of the Inika leg, when I have used it as an arm and it's backwards than normal. lol, I gotcha now. ^_^

Hmm... dunno how to fix that. I did get the design from DV afterall.

Good suggestion with the claws; I didn't know that they had a simple pin connection and not an axle one, which is good to know. I don't really want to spend 15 bucks for them though. The main reason I added the claws was because his fingers just seem blunt without them and a little bit short too. I also like the idea of him using them as a weapon.

Yeah, I completely agree on the gun arm; I plan on changing it up a bit. I kinda just threw that together as a test to be honest.

Heh, "greebles": I like the term.

Sometimes having nifty ideas is nice, but you've got too many conflicting ones here from what I can see. I mean, I really have no idea where you're taking this MOC.

Upper torso indicates smooth humanoid to me, but then you have all the greebs and whatever the midsection is. Left arm could work with it, but the right arm is super smooth. But then the spikes are like wtk? Spiky -> evil -> not smooth to me.

Is that red thing the eye, or are you making a head?

Then you have the wheel legs which are pretty sleek (and hot). Doesn't match up with anything cept the smooth humanoid, which would lead me to think robotic.

I just don't know what you're trying to do, so it doesn't feel good to me. If you could explain, I could probably revise my crit.

Smooth and greeb'd are hard to balance, so good luck.

    -Laka

Actually, I would say that having nifty ideas are always nice, but I also agree that attempting to combine too many can indeed be counter productive for the looks and build of a particular MoC. I understand the apparent conflict between the smooth upper torso and the midsection, but I can't make the whole thing perfectly smooth, understand. If it weren't for the white Mahri visors I wouldn't even have that element of smoothness. As I told Arpy above though, I plan on definitely tweaking the gun arm. As to the spikes, the main ones on the back are for aerodynamic fins, so to speak, which go around the jets in the back (did you take a look at all of the pictures, or just the initial one?); I still have two side fins to add once I get my Pridak in from B6. And no, the read part is not his eye; it's part of the chest and I still need to add a head.

Yes, this is supposed to be a robotic humanoid. As I said in the original entry, I'm basing the idea of him off of DV's Transtech Shockwave, which is a robot on wheeled legs with a streamlined feel to it. I don't really know how to clarify my objective for you... I guess my main motive has been to really try to work with system and dive into the Fusion business. Thus, (considering this is my first true attempt) I won't be anywhere near where DV or ToM are. Also, I just wanted to build a cool robot and have fun at the same time! :)

lol, this whole "greeble" concept is new to me. I will need to keep it in mind...

Also, I understand that the WIP pics don't give a very accurate view of him and thus he is hard to understand. Sorry about that.

Just remember that MoCing is an art, and as such every MoCist will have his/her own style. ;)

Thanks so much for the crit Laka! It is much appreciated. ^_^

  10. Wow. Just wow. You are a truly talented artist! I love your renditions of Lewa and Gali; they seem to fit perfectly.

I would recommend lamination as well, and then you can just cut 'em all down to size.

Also, I might be interested; I'll see when you're done.

btw, your past drawings of human Gali and Lewa have been inspiration to me for the clothing of some fictional characters of mine in a book I am working on (and in the girl's case, Gali's looks played a part too). Just thought I'd let you know. ;)
