LEGO Black Friday Sales are Coming
Nescent replied to Hapori Tohu's topic in BZPower.com News Discussion
I wasn't planning on spending $400 on a LEGO set, but that model of the Enterprise is seriously tempting. -
What Are You Listening To At This Very Moment?
Nescent replied to Nescent's topic in Completely Off Topic
I am really sorry to hear this, Mushy. I've been quietly checking in on your updates and posts over the years, and I hope you are feeling peaceful in this moment. Sending you anonymous Internet love. <3 Lately I have been listening to Crack the Skye by Mastadon, and Lost Whispers by Evanescence. deadmau5 too, particularly his "Some EP" and Re-Jaded. -
A couple weeks ago, I got all the Bionicle boxes out of the shed. William - my oldest, who recently turned 5 years old - was instantly obsessed. First, we got out all of the 2015 sets, the Skull baddies, both variants of the Toa, all the Protectors...They learned all about Tahu, Gali, the whole gang, and about how the characters changed and morphed into different variations throughout the Bionicle story. William was mystified. The mythical island of Mata Nui is like a grand, colorful island full of mystery and adventure, and he is eager to explore it. After getting to know the characters, and the island, and the evil Rahkshi and Makuta - also the Kraata "slug," which William fancies to touch the good guys with and turn them evil - I thought it was time to introduce them to The Mask of Light. William's excitement at the start of the movie was palpable. He was trembling with excitement, and stayed glued to the screen from start-to-finish. Afterwards, he asked me dozens of questions about the movie, the story, the characters...and he and his brother spent the following days pretending to be Kopaka, freezing each other; or Tahu, riding on lava. William built a couple of Protectors, then challenged himself to build the Bohrok Kal combiner. He was so proud of himself for building the whole thing! More recently, I got together the pieces to build Takadox, which William did with eagerness. He then spent the entire evening putting Takadox in various poses, and proudly showing me each different pose. Later, we built Kalmah, and Toa Ignika. Now I've got Axonn coming in the mail, as well as a Bricklink order which will enable me to build Mantax, Carapar, Antroz, and perhaps a couple others. Last night, I spontaneously put on Legends of Metru Nui. William was so excited, he ran from one end of the house to the other several times, and was almost vibrating in his seat at the start of the movie. Matau was his favorite, and made him cackle relentlessly. Triston is a little too young to be so infatuated with the toys, but he shares William's interest, and together, we play pretend - I'm Takadox, they're Kopaka and Toa Ignika, or Tahu, or whoever. Triston likes to say "Holy Gadunka!" We have been bonding a lot over these toys, and I am actually able to share their excitement over the movies, the new sets coming in the mail, the old sets that have been disassembled for over a decade, now coming back together in the hands of a new Bionicle fan. The boys are huge Cryoshell fans, and every time one of the songs starts, William wants to know who the song is about, or for what part of the story it was made. We played some MNOG, and I even let him listen to my "Music of Okoto" album. He has zero expectation of receiving any new sets, as he understands that it's been discontinued for some time, but I am absolutely getting him Gadunka for Christmas this year!

I am extremely nostalgic for G2! It was so, so exciting when it was first announced, and I remember the introductory animation fondly. What I reminisce about mostly is the Battle for the Gold Mask, and my own personal projects making Rahi combiners. I loved the sets and wish they would have made a few more waves, a new team of Toa. Yeah the story was bland and had no depth, but my love of Bionicle has always been mostly in the sets themselves.

Finally Finished my Bionicle Collection [Bragpost]
Nescent replied to The Archivist's topic in Bionicle Discussion
It's a magnificent display. Congratulations on completing your collection. -
Same ^ There are many events from my childhood that I can peg down to an exact year, because I remember which Bionicle sets I bought during that period. I know exactly where I was in the summer of 2007, for instance, because I vividly remember buying Jaller Mahri. And we must have visited my aunt in early 2007 because I remember she gave me Mantax. You're not losing it. Bionicle was definitely the most compelling thing going on throughout my whole childhood, too. Well-put.

I've had it dozens of times. In fact, it was happening so frequently, that I managed to use it a couple times to trigger lucid dreams. I'd see Bionicle on the shelves, think "wait a second...this dream again!" and become aware that I was dreaming. Mine are exactly like you describe, just shopping in my dream and finding loads of old Bionicle sets on the shelves, usually on clearance. I remember seeing all the Toa Mata for a couple bucks each, the Bohrok, Rahkshi, etc., etc. I truly believe that going to the store and looking at the Bionicle sets there was one of the most intoxicating things of my life. Boy do I miss that!

Been playing through The Talos Principle II.

What is your favorite bionicle set?
Nescent replied to InfinityStuffBionicle's topic in Bionicle Discussion
I always liked Axonn the most, but of course it's impossible to really choose from so many sets. Axonn just has a special nostalgia for me. -
I have been playing the 2016 Tomb Raider. Next on my list is Diablo II Resurrected. Anyone else looking forward to Starfield? Also excited for The Talos Principle 2. Other games I'd like to play include: - Dead Space Remake - Diablo 4 - Baldur's Gate 3 Simply not enough time!

Cup of coffee to start the day, then it's water till the next morning. I occasionally indulge myself with a La Croix, but I don't like to drink them too frequently. Their blackberry sparkling water is my favorite.

Been playing Devin Townsend's "Lightwork" on repeat. -
I unfortunately don't have any 3D printed parts to participate, but I just wanted to say this is an awesome idea for a contest! The 3D prints have brought a lot of fresh material to Bionicle, and the above MoCs are great examples of that. The intricate design on that orange chestplate is really cool, tourmalinex.

Board Game Bulletpoints from a Somewhat Sore Loser
Nescent commented on Aderia's blog entry in Between the Bookends
Awesome list! Coup is one of my favorite games ever, and I highly recommend the sequel "Coup Rebellion." It's the same structure, except there are a couple dozen different cards which are randomized each session. Makes the game way more dynamic. Settlers is great too, had a lot of fun times with that. I'll have to check out some of the ones you highly recommended, they look fun. You ever played Dominion? -
There are a couple tracks from Within Temptation that I love. I've listened to "Mother Earth" many, many times. The only metal I really listen to is an album here and there that gets recommended to me, but they comprise some of my favorite music. I love TOOL, I've listened to Fear Inoculum more times than I can count and most of their older music too. Also saw them in concert. Also "In Cauda Venenum" by Opeth, and Moonspell's first couple of albums. Nightwish and Rhapsody of Fire are great but I don't listen to them too much anymore.

Today I started listening to "Empath," the album by Devin Townsend. It's great. -
Been enjoying Frostpunk. I just got a 3060ti and WOW it's nice to play with some good graphics.
-
Wow! This is a great idea, and you've done a good job with it so far. What a cool way to breathe some fresh life into the old Bionicle.
-
Just want to share this pic of my son playing with some Bionicle sets for the first time. It melted my heart, if anyone else will get it it's got to be you guys! My plans to indoctrinate the babies are finally coming to fruition. 🤨

The Sims 4.

Mine are disassembled and stored haphazardly in the shed. I'm hoping my children will take to them when they are older, but even if they don't, I doubt I'll ever have the heart to sell them.
