Hi everyone LordofBionicles here!

I just had a quick question this time, does anybody know why did the set designers made the Bohrok Kal instead of completely new sets?

I recall reading the Official Greg Discussion topic and it said something like the set designers didn't have enough time to make completely new sets so they re-invented the Bohrok, kinda like with the Toa Nuva but with fewer changes.

Am I right? Or is there something I'm missing? please let me know.

Thank you very much

building isn't about why, it's about why not. "why is so much of our stuff the same?" why not marry different designs if you love it so much! in fact, why not invent a set that doesn't have anything from the previous wave!? because YOU'RE FIRED! not you, lordofbionicles, you're doing fine.

pretty much what you said before. I would assume, canonically, that the bohrok-kal were just more powerful bohrok, therefore not really in need of a new design.

I believe it was a combination of factors. First of all, the Bohrok were MASSIVELY successful. The BIONICLE team probably figured there was more than enough demand for those sets that it could support another wave of them. Second, the Bohrok-Kal allowed designers to reuse many of the specialized molds from the Bohrok, just as the Toa Nuva allowed them to reuse many molds from the Toa Mata. And third, I think the LEGO Group probably wanted the first wave of sets for 2003 to be small and low-budget so that they could reserve the brunt of their 2003 design budget and schedule for the Rahkshi, which had a very large quantity of new molds and would tie in with the core promotional campaign of the year (the movie BIONICLE: Mask of Light and the various media and promotions associated with it).

It's for the same reason they made the Toa Nuva. The Toa Mata were a huge success, so they made upgraded versions of them, that proved to be even more popular. The Bohrok were very popular as well, so they did the same thing with them; add silver. :P
