IcarusBen
Note that I don't follow the Ninjago story, though that really isn't important. Has anyone ever noticed the Power Rangers-esque vibe of Ninjago? Think about it; a color coded team of 6 (counting Jay, Kai, Zane, that guy with the black suit, Skylar and Lloyd) all possessing immense powers of martial arts and, in fact, have their own equivalent of Zords (the Dragons)? If I ever get into Ninjago, I'll make it a point to collect every single Ninja from 2015 and make a PR stopmotion video. Heck, I'm certain that using parts from the Dragons alone, you could feasibly make a Megazord (I imagine Megazords in the Minifigure world are formed by disassembling the Zords and rebuilding them into a combiner.) Aanchir
I've seen comparisons between Power Rangers and Ninjago in the past, and I have to agree that there are some pretty substantial parallels. But I don't know a lot about those parallels firsthand because I was never a Power Rangers fan. 2 Quote Latest MOC: PAIGE (Prototype Artificial Intelligence, Gynoid Expression)
IcarusBen
Never a Power Range---never a Pow---NEVER A POWER RANGERS FAN?!?! Ahem. Sorry, my inner nerd just erupted into rage and violence. Just watch an episode of In Space or Lightspeed Rescue and you'll get the idea of the franchise. Five "over-bearing and emotional" humans (read: teenagers) are sent out to fight whatever evil decides to rear it's ugly head this season (my favorite's Lothor from Ninja Storm, he was hilarious) using superpowers, martial arts and giant robots that can transform, but only if they're all present at the same time. 1 Quote LEGO Republic:The ValkyrieThe "Christmas Brick" My BZPRPG Profiles Now a proud member of The Kanohi Force
Boidoh
I've only ever seen Power Rangers Samurai (Did that show even finish, it stopped showing episodes at one point...) and I think the only similarities are the color coded uniforms... Black Six
Power Rangers have been around for over twenty years now, so there's clearly a lot of appeal. Honestly I think the biggest surprise for me is that it took LEGO so long to hop on the bandwagon. They will never reveal it publicly, but perhaps they tried licensing Power Rangers at some point, or decided that rather than doing that they could make their own ninjas that shared a lot of the same concepts but with its own twist. Obviously the idea proved successful, wherever it came from. Anyway, this belongs over in Ninjago Discussion... 2 Quote Bio of a BZP Admin

Yeah, Samurai isn't the best hopping on point. Or hopping to point. But it's certainly a good hopping off point. I stopped watching the show after SPD finished, but I will say that the similarities are pretty big. My best guess; Ninjago started as an adaptation of Power Rangers (possibly Samurai or SPD, look at the big bad) but Lego lost the rights. Also, Ninjago has it's own forums? Boidoh
I'm sure Lord Garmadon the Overlord didn't turn huge when he was defeated. IcarusBen
Probably cause he was already pretty big, if memory serves. Plus, he was a big bad, not a regular MoD, so he doesn't need to turn big. Boidoh
Why didn't Samukai turn into something huge then... Or the Nindroids, or Serpentine, or whoever. IcarusBen
Samukai is one of the generals, they rarely ever turn huge. The Nindroids and Serpentine are regular mooks, they never turn huge. There. My theory has no flaws! (But what abou-) THERE ARE NO FLAWS. Boidoh
NO ONE TURNS HUGE IN THIS SHOW.... The closest thing was when Lord Garmadon-Overlord turned into that dragon thing. Rooster Nui
When I first saw a few promotional images of the Ninjago theme back in 2011, they reminded me of Power Rangers and I certainly agree with some of the things people have pointed out about the two. There is also that similarity of the red color coded character being the one who is mainly focused on, before having the new green one take that place down the line. (as seen in Ninjago and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) I casually watched Ninja Storm and Space Patrol Delta when I was a lot younger, but I quickly moved on and continued having Bionicle as my main interest. I remember that Mega Blocks already has the licenses for power rangers toys and MB are usually the only major license holder for rangers sets, they mostly produce minifigure style sets and i've seen sets such as samurai megazord and power rangers samurai grab bags by Mega Block whixh has a random figure similar to Lego's collectable minifigure series. Maybe because it has Lego's name on it. Also because I've never seen Power Rangers - for some reason I got the feel that PR was episodic like Hero Factory, cheesy like Hero Factory...at least Ninjago has an actual real story, ya know? Boidoh
The Golden Master was huge? Wasn't that just the armour? Sybre
The Golden Master was huge? Wasn't that just the armour? Not sure, but no matter how you put it, he was massive in size. Anyway, I've noticed some similarities once or twice, but never really thought too deeply about it. There definitely was some influence from Power Rangers, and like Black Six said, there might have been a failed license involved. Spiderus Prime
Really I don't see Ninjago to compared to the Super Sentai/Power Rangers since The Rangers had female members, well Ninjago only had two Female Characters one as a Samurai, and the upcoming Orange Ninja. Nidhiki of the Shadows
Honestly, I got Sentai/Power Ranger vibes ever since the colour-coded heroes of Knights Kingdom II, followed by Exo-Force and elements of Hero Factory. Colour-coded heroes and giant robots just tend to be popular I guess. -NotS
Zeb
The Golden Master was huge?
