Where do YOU think Lego got the name BIONICLE from?

Recommended Posts

It's shortened for Biological Chronicle. Most people think it came from Biomechincal, which makes sense, but it's incorrect. Additionally, TTV did a bionicle Autopsy episode titled "What Made Bionicle So Special?", explaining how Christian Faber came up with toa canisters, the GSR and eventually, history was created. Go watch it for yourself if you don't believe me.

Biological- flesh and machine +

Chronicle- epic story

Epic story of flesh and machine.

Except the word "biological" has nothing to do with machines.

Really, the genius of the name is that "biological" does not refer to something that is explicitly biological. Rather, it refers to the biological allegory represented by the Great Spirit. The story, from the start, was about a body fighting off a disease. This meaning never became clear until the 2008 reveal.

This isn't a 'do you think' as more a 'did they'. There's no debate, we've been told the story behind it, and appreciate it as a summary of the entire line.

Now, how it applies to G2, that's yet to be seen. Perhaps the Masters are antibodies against the Skulls and MoUP's virus, while Okoto is a 'body' or 'organ'?

Elemental Rahi in Gen2, anyone? A write-up for an initial video for a G2 plot

I really wish everyone would stop trying to play join the dots with Gen 1 and Gen 2 though,it seems there's a couple new threads everyday and often they're duplicates of already existing conversations! Or simply parallel them with a slightly new 'twist'! Gen 2 is NEW, it is NOT Gen 1 and it is NOT a continuation. Outside of the characters we already have I personally don't want to see ANY old characters return. I think it will cheapen the whole experience to those of us familiar with the original line...

And that was the only reason until it was rather suddenly decided that the Toa/Matoran were biomachines.

Where did Lego get the name BIONICLE from? Two words:

Christian.

Faber.
