Alexander123
As many of us know a great number of bionicle names came from real world cultures but did G2 continue this trend? I know that Ekimu sound very similar to Enkidu from the Epic of Gilgamesh and Umaraks design has always made me think of the Welsh god Arawn. Has anyone else noticed any inspirations in G2? Sailor Wah!
The city of the mask makers reminds me a bit of Mayan and Aztec cities, but also a bit of Machu Picchu. Edited June 4, 2022 by Sailor Wah!
Alexander123
Your right it does have some similarities to Central and South American architecture. Good catch.
Lorentz
If you look at some of the 2016 concept art, there's some very clear Mesoamerican influence. Alexander123
So it seems like G2 used more Mesoamerican inspiration. Thats interesting because I dont think G1 used any Mesoamerican designs to my knowledge. The Okotan writing system also resembles Mayan Glyphs a little too. Taken at a glance, the Okotan writing resembles the Nuva symbols from G1. Most of the 2001-02 years were based off of Maori culture, is it possible that they used symbols similar to the nuva symbols as well? But yes, I'd grant you that they bear a similarity to Mayan glyphs as well! Edited June 7, 2022 by TERIDAX941 Quote Formerly Iron_Man5
Fyndegil
^ I don't think the Maori had writing pre-colonization. My theory on Okotan would be that they took the basic design of the Nuva symbols but changed them up to make them look more Mayan.
