How did the Toa Mata stop the Rahi?
emily replied to slifer3000's topic in Bionicle Storyline & Theories
With mnog its kinda weird. There's no specifc 'aha!' moment, but in the second chapter jala says of the rahi and then in the third chapter, we see gali claiming the tarakava's infected mask.So it seems to be an innovation of the toa, just discovered basically right when they arrive instead of some time later, like in the books. -
I suspect they punch the water so hard it moves aside for them

In addition to Makuta's lines in Mask of Light all reading like a character motivated by genuine concern for his brother (the 'sleep spares him pain' being the most blatant bit), Faber elaborated a bit on what they were thinking of doing with Makuta at that point on his blog. so like, makuta was a benevolent virus I guess? just wanted to make his bro tougher

Huh, that's pretty cool! I had no idea. Here's a second source on it - I wonder if it was the actual prototype, or the final mold cast in yellow.
-
The yellow ruru is definitely a prototype, check out the code on the front of it. As far as I know, it only reached fans' hands through the sand tarakava. Never came on any manas models, although the manas protoype we've seen does use transparent blue rurus. The white huna is weird. I might be a part that wasn't intended for release, but it was found for sale alongside the brown komau in calendar bags (I think that's what they were called?) that were being sold somewhere in Europe - I forget the country. The BZP member who made the discovery got some additional ones to give/sell to other BZPers iirc, but beyond that nobody's ever found any in the wild.

What Bionicle character do you want to be your friend?
emily replied to Lenny7092's topic in Bionicle Discussion
definitely not mantax. then I'd just be an enemy he hasn't killed yet! -
I can corroborate the memories of Lhikan coming out late, but I don't know that it was quite so late as november. Issue 20 of the comic actually advertises a release date coinciding with that of LoMN itself, on October 19 (page 18). I don't know whether that launch was held to. As for the why of it, I seem to recall Greg saying the set was cooked up at the last minute to have such a key character from the film available to buy. That'd be somewhere in Planetperson's Greg archive, but goodness knows what page.

Flash is Dying: Save MNOG and the Others
emily replied to maletoaofwater's topic in Fan Created Media
Its missing those files still atm, but you can re-insert them yourself simply enough (that's what I did!). The changes this version makes are at the beginning of the game - the Tahu cutscene is restored, and you have to find your backpack/lightstone in Ga-Koro. And the game auto-saves instead of using that chapter select thing. -

Built-in save (fan-modified to more closely resemble the original online game) Official 2006 rerelease Some antivirus software won't like that first one for some reason, but I can vouch for its safety. -
aw man, SAME. I had completely forgotten about that. kopaka and his illuminati eye

Try one of the download versions! They don't have the flute glitch. -
Anyone With Greg Farshtey's Siganture Out There?
emily replied to Electric Light Gunhaver's topic in Bionicle Discussion
Yeah, Greg's got a funky signature like that. Check it out: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/67/09/bb/6709bb829552ff335e5264302f5db58f.jpg http://img15.deviantart.net/5372/i/2014/082/5/1/signed_bionicle_comic_by_ultimatejkc1994-d7be7fp.jpg Seems like your stuff is legit. -
Thanks! I actually have a summery of the first Unikitty episode written out; however, I didn't want to release it as I have no idea when it will be officially released other than "next year." If you would like, I could try to add more details about it. Whatever you can share would be awesome. I wouldn't think they would mind a summary being out there, considering the episode was publicly screened, but I trust you know how much would be best to reveal.

This is some super rad coverage. Thanks for all the details, its great to hear a bit more about Unikitty and I'm excited to see the new Ninjago trailer.

Early Bionicle Material from ~2000 aired on TV in 2001
emily replied to emily's topic in Bionicle Discussion
It looks like it got set to private somehow. I didn't do it as far as I know, so I'm not really sure how it happened. It should be viewable again now. -
Early Bionicle Material from ~2000 aired on TV in 2001
emily replied to emily's topic in Bionicle Discussion
It looks like the episode this was in aired at the end of April 01, so the line would've already been out in Europe. That just makes it stranger that they wouldn't use any of the more up-to-date stuff that existed at that point - but thank goodness they didn't! -
https://youtu.be/_bBu_fkesZU I came across a Lost Media Wiki article on a curious Lego game show that ran in Russia in the 90s and early 2000s, originally called Lego-Go and later rebranded as KB-Legonaut. Skipping through the uploads of some of the show's episodes, imagine my surprise to see VooDoo Heads concept art! From what I can gather, what you see in the above video is a Technic-themed product showcase segment, that focused on Bionicle for this particular episode. I don't know what the business with the letters is about, but I have a suspicion the footage from about 0:23 to 0:54 is from the original video created by the Bionicle team to pitch the theme to LEGO (more about that here). I can't image where else they'd get footage that relies so heavily on early concept work. Beyond that, you'll note that the Toa in the video are early prototypes - going by all the Haus, perhaps before they had produced prototypes of any other masks. The gearboxes are assembled a little differently, and there are a few other small differences like Gali's Slizer arms and Onua's glow-in-the-dark eyes. The bordering Technic segments use animations done for the CyberMaster CDrom from 1998. The full episode of KB-Legonaut can be found here.

I've got unlimited 1-40 and Pohatu from Bohrok Awake. I don't know what you might be willing to trade for that, but I'm looking for silver-letter Onua, Kopaka, and Lewa, Rahi Challenge # 294, 300, 305, and 308, and a whole buncha cards from the standard booster packs, especially a couple of story cards. I also have spares of the first 40 Bohrok Swarm cards + the booklet with the never-printed Bohrok story cards, if you don't have either of those in your collection.
-
Looking for quest for the mask card 197 and a few other ones.
emily replied to bionicleuniverse's topic in Buy/Sell/Trade
Hi, I've got a spare #16 from Bohrok Awake. If you don't have any spare QFTM cards to trade that aren't in the sealed packs, maybe you'd be willing to part with a Kanohi or two? Good luck with card 197! -
Howdy folks! Just a couple of things here: Sealed Pahrak - $20 Sealed McDonalds Matoro - $15 I'll also do trades for Kanohi, Quest for the Masks trading cards, or any other 2001/2 oddities, if that sounds like something you'd be up for! Packaging is in great shape. Drop a post here or PM me!

Bionicle as Utopian Social Engineering
emily replied to Wrinkledlion X's topic in Bionicle Discussion
Aw heck, that one's fantastic. I love the idea of Toyetic Storytelling, it starts to coalesce a lot of what was so cool about bionicle and explain why really satisfactorily. Definitely let me know if you ever come across anything else, this is rad stuff. -
Bionicle as Utopian Social Engineering
emily replied to Wrinkledlion X's topic in Bionicle Discussion
Man, this is fascinating. I wanna get one more quote here in the thread, where A. D. is describing a 'utopic' bionicle: A 'utopia' where the people with the most free time are privileged with better stuff, lol. It's pretty crazy that they were dreaming about a huge game/experience like that, though. Who wouldn't want to hang out on Mata Nui? And heck, the concept kind of echoes later ambitions in game development, with MMOs and stuff. People seem to have been really fascinated with the possibilities of stuff like that back then. Interesting how the paper problematizes the positive fan-community image described by AD and basically says "we'll have to wait and see if the Bionicle fandom falls in line with the culture brought down to them by Lego, or if they go off and make their own thing." I totally agree that the canon-obsession we kind of ended up with is pertinent to that. But then there's also the sub-communities that spun Bionicle off into wildly different things, even if those seem to have lost the test of time. Everyone was super into Dark709's comics back in the day, but like, what did they actually have to do with the 'official' Bionicle? not a ton. Thanks for sharing. I'm tickled to read the words 'Bionicle' and 'de Certeau' together in the same context.
