Caveat Scriptor Results!

Aaaaah it's the LEGO MOVIE (comedy contest results)!

After a slightly longer-than-expected period of voting, we have a winner for our Caveat Scriptor contest! Congratulations to Peabody Sam, whose winning entry went head-to-head and came out on top! Please PM Black Six for more information about claiming your prize.

That said, I'd be remiss not to specially recognize Lyichir as well, whose entry tied Peabody's in the first round, forcing a tiebreaker which was just as neck-and-neck. While there's only one winner in this contest, you went the distance and then some.

And finally, one last thank-you to both our other entrants and everyone who took the time to vote! We'll see you all around BZP and at our next contest, whenever that may be.

(...Wait, you mean The Lego Movie still doesn't come out for another two weeks? I thought this contest was leading up to it! Who're the bozos in charge of this thing?)

Hey: I'm not very active around BZP right now.  However, you can always contact me through PM (I have email notifications set up) and I will reply as soon as I can.

Congrats to you, Peabody Sam! And I must agree with GSR's words on your work, Lyichir.

I really enjoyed reading the entries submitted to this contest. Though few, the scripts were clearly the result of thought, care, and the desire to succeed. I really appreciate it! I had fun co-hosting; I hope you all enjoyed writing.

Congratulations to Peabody Sam!

However, I was extremely disappointed in the tiebreaker poll. Neither entry got even the eight votes they had gotten in the original poll (which should have been a sure bet), let alone the new votes that both should have been expected to get from members who voted for other entries or didn't vote at all. The tiebreaker didn't even get a news article, which combined with the restrictive 24-hour time limit was probably responsible for the dismal participation.

I posted about the poll on social networks and in my infrequently-followed BZPower blog, but it feels unfair to have the participants shoulder so much of the burden of drumming up interest. And clearly it's not working, either.

... Wow. I am still in shock over this. Since I've joined BZPower back in 2004, I've entered two BBC contests, one LGD contest, two General Art contests, two S&T contests, and now one Comedies contest. And this... marks the first time I've ever won a contest here. Thanks a billion to those who voted for "Scene 24"; I could never have done it without you!

And let's also give a round of applause to Lyichir, GreenNinjaCP, and Master Inika for their creative and comedic entries! It's a shame that there were so few entries, but everyone who submitted an entry put a lot of work, imagination, and laughs into their scripts. It's no wonder that the competition was close!

Though, that being said, I must agree with Lyichir's sentiments regarding the turnout in this contest, especially for the tiebreaker poll. There was very little promotion, not even a news article on the front page; if you didn't happen to browse the voting subforum yesterday, you would never have known that there even was a tiebreaker. That, combined with the very short voting period for the poll, likely resulted in the low voter turnout. Don't get me wrong; I'm definitely happy about the victory... but, given how close the final vote was, I wouldn't be surprised if, had there been a bit more promotion and another day of voting, I would have been posting a congratulations to Lyichir for his victory instead.

On a lighter note regarding how close this victory was, I admit that I'm rather amused by how prophetic Sumiki's post in the tiebreaker topic turned out to be.

Once more, I commend everyone who entered and express my most sincere gratitude to everyone who voted for "Scene 24"!

I understand the frustration with the short tiebreaker. To be honest, the tie caught us a bit off-guard, so I made the voting period brief to keep in line with past contests' tiebreakers and final rounds, which seemed to have worked out. But given this contest's smaller scale and the closeness of the vote, I recognize now that it was too short a timeframe, and I apologize for the trouble. It's also on us for not getting a news post up.

In future contests we'll be sure to handle these cases a bit better. In the meantime, given the circumstances, I'd like to make up for this a bit, Lyichir - please check your PMs.

I just saw the news article on the front page, and... well, I hate to be that guy (no, not that guy, the other guy), but my username is "PeabodySam", not "Peabody Same". Whether it's real life or BZPower, somehow I always see my name misspelled; you might even say that I'm quite used to it, haha! Oh, good, it's been fixed. Thanks, Black Six!

It's also good to see that Lyichir received some recompense given the unusual circumstances behind this contest's finale. Things seem to have worked out beautifully in the end, and it's good to hear that a lesson has been learned for the future - that's what life is all about, after all. Making mistakes and learning lessons for the future. Unless that mistake is fatal, but thankfully, BZPower comedies contests are guaranteed to be non-lethal 65% of the time.

Actually, to set the record straight, I was offered recompense in the form of a smaller gift card. But I'm not in a position where I need charity from the staff, so while I could certainly have made use of it, I felt it wasn't fair to accept it. I was proud of my story, and my concerns with the promotion of the comedies contest (and the tiebreaker in particular) were mainly that I wanted more people to read it. That's probably not going to happen much now that the contest is over, but it's no skin off my back, and just an acknowledgment that the tiebreaker could've been handled a bit better and a pledge to do so in future contests is good enough for me.

In that case, one might say that you consider said acknowledgement and pledge to be adequate recompense. Therefore, while you may have turned down one offered form of recompense, you still receive some other form of recompense, one that will benefit future contestants in the long run, and that's all fair and good, and all's well that ends well, right? That's all I was trying to say.

If I were bonesiii, here's where I would use a smiley emote to further establish a light and cheerful tone to lighten up an emotionless wall of text. Since I'm contractually obliged not to pretend that I'm bonesiii, I am forbidden from doing so or else they'll come to take me away (ha-haa!), but still I wish to make this clear that I'm not trying to antagonize you or anything like that and I'm just trying to have a friendly attitude. I probably don't even need this disclaimer, but you know how a faceless voiceless wall of text can be misinterpreted in tone, which is probably why people use emoticons in the first place, but I appear to have used up my lifetime supply of emoticons in my first few years in BZPower's comedies forum, which is why instead I am writing this nonsensical disclaimer that you've probably already given up on reading at this point so I'll insert some cringe-worthy joke right here. Just kidding; I won't, because that was the cringe-worthy joke. Which means I wasn't kidding, but then that means that wasn't the cringe-worthy joke, which means I was kidding, which means I divided by zero OH NO-
