Three Thousand Miles

And all the while, I've been going in circles and losing my focus...     The Black Parade filled my head. I apologize, but the view counter got me all excited! Three thousand views and counting! The numbers may seem small, but it made my tired day happy. (Tired - a day at school of note-taking, going out to assist friend in a dire shopping trip and help for assignments and weathering through a cacophanic thunderstorm, worrying about my poor dog that would be beyond petrification.)     And

Behind A Name

I realised how canny baby-naming can be - cannily accurate.   My sister's name meant 'Pretty and Graceful'. She's a dancer now, doing ballet and doing lead for her school. She's pretty.   My other sister's name meant 'Pretty Lotus'. The lotus is a symbol of wisdom. My sister scoring well at one of the hardest paths of the available education path. And she's pretty too.   My brother's name meant 'Scholar'. He's in a newly-founded high school of science and maths that would directly lead him to

No More Videos

In an accident while deleting obsolete programmes, I deleted Adobe Flash Player from my laptop.   Wise move, I can't watch online videos unless I download them and I do not need to lose space on this laptop. I may need a larger hard disk for this laptop.     But, it was a blessing in disguise.   While everyone else in class was browsing the video sites and watching young music talent surpassing their own talent, I found myself unable to do that.   Instead, during that break, I took up a note

A Bad Bad Reason

Why haven't I been updating epics? Why haven't I been blogging?   I got a bad bad reason for it.   I was watching a video on repeat.   Direct yourselves to the website (no linking, as the rules go. I think you know where to look.) and search for a video called 'I Got a Jar of Dirt remix'.   That good enough a hint to my sudden disappearance?

The Literal Dead

While ol' xccj is handing out the literal goodies by the dozen, I found myself in a very bad state.   It's been nearly a month since I've published any fiction. Safe to say, my writing pen dried its ink out a long time ago, and it's not going for a recharge any time soon.   It feels bad to have a writing block. It makes me feel so sour and sober... I'm not even writing straight.   I put all blame on RL. Seriously, school has kick-started and has dragged me down in time and brain power. I'm s

The Entertainer

The first thing I said into the mic was, "Mic test, mic test."   Typical of an audio technology student, after the first mic failed me with a dead battery.   The sea of students before me looked at me with lazy eyes.   "Are you guys asleep?"     I was invited back to to my alma mater as a guest speaker for its Career Fair 2007. Other panel members were a Tiffany and Christina, Steffi and Clarissa. These students were all from junior college.   I was the only student from polytechnic.   T

Writing 101 - Library Tip! The Disabled Author

Library Tip! (No, HH, I would never want to plagarize your idea. Credit to HH for the creation of Library Tips.)   And this applies to all of you! All of you who think writing fiction is easy, rethink!     To many of us, we think of writing as something like a movie playing in our heads. Actions, ideas, plotlines, everything exists in the author's head.   All he has to do is to transfer it into words.   Easy.   Nope. Not easy.   In a movie, we hear sounds and music (the techno remixes and

A Sigh Of Relief

I have two things to be relieved about.   Firstly, the co-curricular activity (CCA) project has been cleared. With direction, we managed to solve the problem just today! I spent my entire day on the laptop and finally came up with the solution, and insurance. Insurance.   Secondly, my holidays have come to an end. Tomorrow, I finally return to a NORMAL life: Lectures, tutorials and a lot of music-playing and composing.   What I accomplished over the holidays were, surprisingly, satisfying: I

Sub-leader Burn

So that was why they made me person-in-charge of Publicity's stunt in Co-Curricular Activity Week.   To make me suffer for the brunt of problems coming from the higher-ups.   A day away from the deadline, and everything went haywire and crosswire.     The previous day, I met up with the other member whom I assigned Poster duty, and we both hand-drew three posters and took up the whole day doing so, in the process nicking my wrist with a blade that was unlawfully placed in the open, having a b

A Wise Tip For Car Drivers

You all know that the automatic function in cars is, by far, the most common type of gear found in the car.   There used to be the manual setting too. I bet all of us remember that.     Do you know that the manual setting is safer, much safer, than the automatic settings?   If you're driving at 160 km/h, or about 100 miles per hour, and you need to slam the brake, this could have two consequences.   In an automatic setting, the gear-box would immediately jam, and you'd be in a very bad fix.

Picture Speak

Pictures speak a thousand words. I found a particular picture that carried two.   A good hint: This was found in the hospital.             The answer?   Fall precaution.

The Longest Word

I only know two words that may qualify as the longest English word.   Antidisestablishmentarianism - no brainer. Most of us knew this. Opposition to the belief of a state church is the meaning, I think. It had to do with a church and opposition, that's what I know. 28 letters. (Nukora: Disesstablishmentarianism is the seperation of church and state I thought, making "antidis" the oposition of the seperation of church and state. *shrug*) I think he got it.   Floccinaucinihilipilification - a

Percolation

One more week. One more week of these boring, miserable holidays and I'm going back to school and getting on with a life.   But, it's rare that one can wake up late in the morning, not worrying about being late, and enjoying some lukewarm Chinese tea while reading up and working on reviews.   It's all for a good mood - rare to come by once poly kick-starts.   It's good time to percolate on what one did the previous week, and to see if there's anything more to do for the current week.   But

Hanami - Sakuras Galore

As those Japan-crazed people would know, 'hanami' means the pleasurable act of watching cherry blossoms anywhere.   Yeah.   Even in an amusement park.   Let me share a little something to you all, to those who are not in the Land of the Rising Sun currently.   Last year, I went to Japan with my mother and aunt. Mother was on a business trip, and my Japanese aunt was free to come with me. She loved her home-country, but she could question its culture turning to cult-worthy attitudes.   Anyw

Girl Power?

This phrase is reknown to almost everyone, be it one gender or the other.   But does it really exist?   I questioned this when a strange little activity occurred.   In the DJ club at poly, the girl population made up 5% of the club's total tally. The club had to split into several sub-groups, so orders were that each girl had to join each sub-group because it was conveniently placed that the number of sub-groups equalled the number of girl members.   I was put into Publicity - just as the af

Phantom Of The Opera

I have finally achieved a goal in life.   I watched Phantom of the Opera.   And I'm now a Phan. Brad Little was the best singer, overall. I finally saw why the movie version was critically slammed, and why a year of waiting for that show paid off.   I'm a very happy girl.

Soccer Balls Aren't Safe

This morning, I watched the soccer battle between England and Israel. I rarely sit down to watch soccer, but this game amused me.   Why?   P. Neville (which P, I can't remember) received a face-straight collision from the soccer ball, and was sent reeling.   Then, later on in the game, two players (can't remember who) chased after the soccer ball, only to find themselves colliding into each other and the ball bounding away, unharmed.   The mischeif (or was it mischief?) caused by the ball di

The Caribbean Came

I have fully admitted that I'm Singaporean in more than one occasion, post or comment.   Now, I can't be any more proud of my nationality than now.   Why?   Those who have watched the 'Pirates of the Caribbean 3' trailer would know.     It's absolutely awesome of the storywriters behind the movie to pull Singapore into the big story! Finally! After its quizzical and interesting mention in the first movie, people have wondered if Singapore was a pirate state.   And here, they fully show it,

About The Library

I must, must, must and absolutely must do some kind of rave about the BZP Library.   It is one of the few I know that separates its different story kinds into separate forum threads.   Comedies stand on their own, that's definitely without saying. They vary in the different stories that lead to laughter, but so as long as they lead to laughter it's good for anyone. It's a suspectible place to see Kopaka slam a cream pie into Lewa's face, though that may never happen in Bionicle's fantasy and

Scholastic Issues

This is more of a mental note to myself than anything else, and more so as a self-note to stop wallowing in worry.   1) I got a call yesterday, and it came from the polytechnic. I qualified for the second diploma, and now have the choice of accepting the diploma or rejecting it.   I've been ordered to accept it, and I'm interested in it. In short, I'm going to accept it. If all goes well and I balance my time properly, I may just graduate with two diplomas in my bag.   Only if I properly hand

First Times Are Good Times

Yes, if you are working, for the first time, in an intensive office job.   There were a few rules that I had to learn and iron out into my schedule and attitude. Here are a few that I found most positive.   1) Never mind if the staff and people around you are apathetic and cold. They're scared of you. Really. They won't talk to you until you've passed The Second Week mark. How I discovered that? After two weeks did the guy who sat behind me in the office cubicle offer his tapioca chips to me,

Demolished.

It really is demolished.   Coming home from a church choir practice which I would no longer attend, my dad and I decided to see what had happened to our home.   It was gone.   In its place was this large bulldozer, and another behind it. The land that it was on was flat, showing that the rubble had been cleared.   It looked so odd... an empty hole where a house used to stand.   It looked so... sad. It was really gone, for good.   But out of the mess, something really pretty will come.   S

Office Zombie

Nothing gets to me worse than being an office zombie. Sure, I can think of worse things to bug me but being an office zombie bugs me.   Three of five days of the week were spent in an office, cold and chilly no thanks to the central air-conditioning system and monotonous in flow.   It's a fact that often, office job holders get a big lot of cash and their temporary staff too.   I decided to give it a go.   For the record, I've timed, in 3 days, a little more than 15 hours. They charge a good

Creeping In My Ears

Yeah, I've never heard the song for the Barraki mini-clip, being that I had never seen the clip before.   So when I heard that it was downloadble, I was loaded with curiosity, and downloaded it.     I wasn't exactly pleased with it. It was a rock song about darkness, but I think they tried too hard to make their point known. The lyrics were simple, but it led to cheesiness. *punch 1*   Music wise, I think I'll be able to ear-play this song real quick! No, not really. I won't really have the c
