BrickCon People Caption Contest Part 5

Pro: Getting a call about an interview. Yayz! Con: They did it at 8 AM. Don't they know that night owls are asleep until at least 11?   Enough about me, more BrickCon Captions...   I have a lot of cool people pictures from our fun times at BrickCon. Instead of just posting them all at once, I'll stagger them out into multiple blog entries, and let you submit captions for each of them / comment on em. No prize other than sharing your wit with the community.   Part 5     Man, I have like 2

BrickCon People Caption Contest Part 4

What's this? A front page news story on BrickCon? That's right, a one week turnaround! (Okay, I know Black Six has gotten stuff posted up quicker for some conventions, but a week is still better than average for speedy convention coverage, and probably also a personal best.)   Anyway, back to caption contest...   I have a lot of cool people pictures from our fun times at BrickCon. OMG SO AMAZING AAAAAAAHSDGFZXXV

Just finished building the LotR Helm's Deep Set.     Oh man, oh man, oh man, such an awesome, awesome set. Love the curved walls. Love the many pieces. Love the minifigs! If anything, I'm sad that it's so large and full of awesome because I don't have a shelf large enough to display it on.   I also added by Legolas fig (traded from Swert's boss) and my Eowyn fig (custom made by Nuju Metru) to make the castle even more awesome. Since the orcs were getting outnumbers, I also reinforced

Looking Through Pictures

I kept trying to do this "Batch" thing with my camera where it would take multiple pictures right after another. But I never really got it to work very well, so even tho I had 1000+ images, about half of them are failed attempt at Batching or whatever, and most of them are of the ground or something lame like that. I'm also slightly disappointed with the overall quality of the images I took of the MOCs. Some photo editing can be done to make them look better, but it's times like these where I

A Funny Thing Happened On the Way Home From BrickCon

So BrickCon is over. The weekend really went by way too fast… it seems like a blur of fun and friends. At some point (maybe next weekend) I'll write a more detailed review. But it was a lot of fun and there were some amazing creations and fun times had by all.   But there's a cool story I have to tell about our trip back. Pat and Maddison (AKA DV and Nukaya) came up for the Sunday public hours and checked some stuff out. I guess afterwards they chilled out in Seattle for a while, and the re

Pirate vs Ninja

It depends on which angle you view it from.   So yeah, BrickCon is awesome. Took lots of picks, lots of good times had by all. But for now, just wanted to post the cheese slope mosaic, which finally got made.     It didn't win any trophy, but the ones that did deserved them. We'll have to make a larger one next year.   More BrickCon news when I'm not having to hack in thru velox's laptop.

BrickBadge

Every event has Brick Badges, which are usually made out of engraved bricks. My problem with them is that they tend to break easily, so for Bricks Cascade I designed a reinforced badge that held together fairly well. (Sure, the bottom bricks did break off at one point and fall into an elevator shaft... but I have since dealt with that weak point.)   As such, I was surprised when Kakaru informed me that this years BrickCon Badges are merely 1x6x5 bricks with printing on them. Totally lame, b

New Slizer Game

Wait wait wait. What the heck? I finished this?   So you can continue to read the blog entry for the background story. Of if you're gonna go all "TL/DR" then just check out the game here and test it out for me. Comments appreciated, granted that you understand this is an armature project and not exactly high quality stuff to begin with.   I'm not sure if I blogged about it before or not, but I've had this general idea for a Slizer game in my head for a while. The basis is around my defunct

Caught Up on Warehouse 13

This has really been an interesting season, with some neat twists. This is kind of a spoiler, but I'm glad they haven't killed of Jynxie yet. I kinda had the feeling that they'd bring him back from the dead for a few episodes and then knocked him back off, but they've done a rather thorough job with his whole arch, and I feel that he's become a much better part of the team than he was last season.   Obviously I haven't seen tonight's episode. It's kinda a bummer that we've already reached the

New BrickCon MOCs

Okay, I want to show off some of the things I've been working on for BrickCon next week.   Angled Mosaic     Okay, I've blogged about this one a lot. I don't have enough cheese slopes to create something big enough to fit a 32x32 baseplate. (Much less a really massive one.) So I've made a deal with Dan Parker (thru Swert) to use his collection of cheese slopes to produce a 32x32 mosaic in this style. However, he wasn't as enthusiastic about the Hau / Krana idea, so instead I'm doing a clas

Friend Me?

I've been made aware of just how out of date my BZP Friend list is. I think it's updated from like 2008 or something. There's not many people on it, and half of them aren't active anymore, and I know I must be missing a lot of people. If you want me to add you to my friends list, post here. (Granted, if I have absolutely no idea who you are and we've never interacted I may be hesitant but what the heck bloated friends lists are all the rage.)

Finally Watched The Harry Potter Finale

The final Harry Potter movie, the Deathly Hollows Part 2, came out in theaters in July 2012. I did not go to see it.   The movie came out on DVD last November. Around that time, I added it to our Movie Queue for Blockbuster (the service where they send us DVDs like Netflix... and yeah they're still in business.) Since then, my mom keeps reshuffling the list to bring the movies she wants to see to the top. (And I didn't even put my choice as a high priority.)   So here it is, at least 9 month

Angled Mosaics

Man, this concept is just too cool. I'm not exactly treading new ground here: I only know about this technique because of Arthur Gugick's Anakin/Darth Vader and Batman/Joker mosaics. But although the idea seems basic enough, I haven't seen anybody else do this, but I want to experiment with new methods. So far he's covered the whole two-opposite-people-in-one-mosaic deal, but there are other things you could do. Day/Night. Before and After. Any two images that would juxtapose each other wo

Series 8 Collectible Minifigures Review

(Click for news post)   Whew, did it again. Collectible Minifigure review. All 16. This time with more pictures too per fig... added some "group" shots with each one comparing it to a similiar fig. Lots of writing to make this happen. Lots of picture taking, picture editing, ext. (Thank goodness I learned some of the batch features in photoshop, would've been a pain to each one individually instead of the whole group automatically.) Also, a good bit of coding too.   But yeah, there's Seri

For a Future Project

It may or may not get off the ground, and kinda depends on things outside my control. But here's some concept work. Props to those who can figure out exactly what I'm planning to do with this. (And go ahead and complain about it if you like, it might just fall on deaf ears)

Where Do You Buy Collectible Minifigures?

Just a quick question. I know that most people have to rely on TRU, but what about other places. I rely exclusively on Fred Meyers, but they're more of a local chain store, so you won't find them outside the Pacific Northwest. What are other places where you've been able to pick up the mystery bags?   Thanks in advance for answering!

Mosaic WIP

Can you guess what it is?     Okay, so I'm borrowing this idea from Arthur Gugick. He's made those really cool Anakin/Darth Vader and Batman/Joker mosaics, where if you look at it from one direction you see one character, and from the other direction you see someone else. The concept is just too cool, and it's made using those nifty little cheese slopes.   So I wanted to try something like this.   My main problem is that I don't have the quantity of cheese slopes to really make something cool

Electronics I Want

Just a various list of new devices I would want upgrades on, in order of want.   New Laptop: I have a Toshiba Satellite that I got in December 2007. In Summer 07, I got a Toshiba Satellite that was the top of the line student laptop of the day. (Or well, high enough quality for it's $1,000 price tag.) Then it got stolen, and my replacement was a lower quality model. It's worked swell for five years, but now even web browsing can tax my system, and dare I even think about playing games on it!

Passport

I finally got my official US Passport in the mail today. I had some issues with the registration 'cause I was technically born in Canada to two US citizens, but the lady at the registration desk was all like "OMG foreign Canadian we can't give you passport arg!" (I'm pretty sure that's exactly what she said.) So we sent in a ton of paperwork documenting the official existence of me and my parents. But then my official birth certificate that I sent in wasn't official enough, so I had to call

Time Disruption Reevaluated

So I was bored this weekend, so I browsed through my files and pulled up my old Time Disruption story. Basically it's something I started back in 2003 (or early 2004, sometime around there) and worked on for 3+ years. It was probably one of my more successful stories on BZPower, and it certainly drew the largest number of reviews I've ever gotten for a story. I haven't reread it in years, so I thought it would be fun to do.   Of course, there were parts I still loved about this. The genera
