  1. Rowlet is best birb and... I'm sorry, but goth kitty and doofus sea lion are gonna have to fall to the wayside for me. If I end up getting Sun and Moon (unlikely), probably gonna go with Rowlet/Sun, Litten/Moon. Otherwise, Rowlet/Sun for me unless there are some really cool version exclusives for Moon (I definitely prefer Sun's legendary for some reason.)
  2. The Duck And Roger The Horse- Cardiacs followed by Burn Your House Brown- Cardiacs
  3. I <3 this concept. Creepy, yet effective, I especially love the head- the fusion of the Bohrok headplate and almost Protector-ish mask is a really unique design that grabs my attention.
  4. Yep, I'm aware of punk's origins- however, it is interesting to note that there are a fair number of proto-punk bands and influencers who also could fit in the progressive rock spectrum- notably, early DEVO- (which was very much proto-punk before they went new wave)- Peter Hammill is another interesting individual in this spectrum, exerting some influence on the Sex Pistols despite being a member of VdGG (which was highly prog.) He also wrote Nadir's Big Chance which is pretty close to a proto-punk release, if not one entirely. You can also see these crossovers in the music of the RIO (Rock In Opposition) scene- artsy progressive music delivered with a seething hatred of conventions and the establishment that culminated in some people actually treating RIO as a genre. Do I personally think the "pronk" label is particularly apt? Nah, it's a bit daft, but prevailing opinion associates it with the band, and I was only noting that classification.
  5. Pronk is a really stupid genre name for a prog-punk fusion- Cardiacs never liked the title, but it was a pretty weird genre name for a pretty weird band, so it fit in that regard.
  6. My rotation these past few weeks has mostly been Kayo Dot (Experimental stuff) Haken (Prog Metal), Devin Townsend Project (Varies, mostly progressive to an extent), Koenjihyakkei (Zeuhl), Gorguts (Tech Death), Maurice Ravel (Impressionist Classical), Cardiacs (Psychedelic Pronk-Pop) with some Vodun (Heavy-Afro-Soul-Doom) and Knifeworld (Psychedelic Math/Prog). Throw in some Secret Chiefs 3 for good measure.
  7. I'm giving that Vektor album a listen, and it's pretty good. Reminds me of the slightly-pre Nothingface- era Voivod (Which is not a bad thing) and the vox are very Schuldiner-ish for sure! Also feeling some Atheist influence there, which is also good!
  8. Anyone heard the stream for the new Gorguts EP Pleiades Dust yet? It's a very good longform composition IMO, gets bogged down in places (but that's to be expected at 30+ min)... It reminds me of a looser, more laid back Colored Sands at points.
  9. Grembo Zavia- Koenjihyakkei Killer Zeuhl-as-you-have-never-heard-it-before at a breakneck pace.
  10. Extremophile Elite- Between The Buried and Me
  11. "Royal Road, Paradise" (王道楽土 Ō Dō Rakudo)- Susumu Hirasawa
  12. Somewhere in between 3.5/5 and 4/5... 3.75/5? Can I do that? Catchy, almost ...pop infused? power metal riffs, some very, very 80s synthwork, and a lot of spacey sounding stuff. Nice, but the power metal elements are a bit generic. Either the mix is not to my tastes or the upload quality is bad, but it sounds muddy. I enjoy the chanting, and the break at 3:18-ish. Feels like a more atmospheric Stratovarius with less technical key-work at times. Vox are good- not much range, but that means he's not grappling with going outside what he can sing comfortably, which is always a good thing.
  13. Thanks! As far as the leg positioning goes, I agree with you that the anatomy is a bit wonky. The pose was originally intended to be a crossover between the thighs, one thigh behind the other slightly (if you try replicating the pose irl you might see what I mean), but the right leg(our left) accidently ended up in a sort of mild s-curve. I actually noticed this when coloring, but I didn't want to redo the pose
  14. 3.5/5 Oh man, The Band. That's some super-classic roots/folk rock there. Crazy how influential they were. Personally, I never dug their vocals- too shaky-country-ish, but the tune and lyrics are an absolute classic. I much prefer the Woodstock version, however- that would probably get a solid 4 from me. This one may be a bit long for non-proggers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JRcg0-ol2Y&app=desktop
  15. The Architect- Haken Followed by Mawu- Vodun
  16. Well, my friends, it's been a while, but I am back with a quick doodle to appease you. This started as a bland figure drawing, but then spiraled into what it is now after I accidently colored a portion red... There's some weird design choices here- some which felt more tribal, and some I just liked. I realize the design is super human-looking, but I hope that's excusable. ORIGINAL: OR "THE FINISHED ONE" ALT 1 (no hand lights) ALT 2 (no mask) (NO BG/MASK) Programs: Photoshop CC, (actually barely touched PS for this 'un), Krita (98% done in Krita) Tablet: Cintiq 13HD, Bamboo Create (I just got the Cintiq, and I LOVE this little beastie. OMG.) Time: ...IDK? Probably too long. Refs: no refs (not even for the hau, which might make it look off-model... ;-; ) Other Info: I listened to Devin Townsend's "Ki" on repeat while making this, and I can't get Gato out of my head... Comments and criticism are very much appreciated: even if I don't reply to them, I read everything. -Haecceity (wow, old screename is old.)
  17. Blackstar- David Bowie "Something happened on the day he died Spirit rose a metre and stepped aside... Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried: I'm a blackstar, I'm a blackstar..."
  18. A really interesting interpretation of the Protector style, Taka! I love your coloured pencil work and the metallic highlights (also, I think all scanners are designed just to mess with artists). The more human proportions definitely look good on the Protector (she reminds me a bit of the Toa Metru proportions, tbh) and I love the way you made the CCBS shells look like plate mail, and the connecting areas like scale mail. It almost adds a "Royal Guard" feel to the character. On a somewhat critical note, the fists feel a bit awkward to me. The one on our right feel like it should either be tilted slightly or in a more dynamic pose. Despite that, great work! The highlights are nice and metallic, and it's a very memorable adaptation of the Protector (Protectress? Is that a word?) of Fire.
  19. The Prime of Our Decline - Knifeworld (Complex Zappa-esque math/art rock with dynamic interplay, psychedelic vocals, and saxes-) Followed by Library Subterranean - Kayo Dot (Progressive avant-goth-doom-experimental darkwave track with some interesting dissonant riffage-)
  20. Direct - Thumpermonkey (Some good proggy heaviness with noisy vocals and mellow sections-) followed by Sweet Tooth - Intervals (Funky, jazzy instrumental metal with virtuosic playing and killer tone-)
  21. Star Wars: The Hype Awakens

    1. Erasmus Graves

      Erasmus Graves

More like Star Wars: The Cash Cow Awakens.

  22. Focus Latin, (Noun) focus m ‎(genitive focī); second declension "hearth, fireplace" Link (8532 x 9867 px) Medium: Digital Art Time: Too long, probably. Tablet: Wacom Bamboo Create Tools: Adobe Photoshop CC, Krita, MyPaint, Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator CC, Corel Painter 2016 So I've found that some part of me really enjoys the 2015 Hau despite my earlier insistence that it looks nothing like G1's. I decided to make a tribute to the "Mask of Fire" after dabbling in some robotic head shapes that played with human facial proportions, stylization and the Golden Ratio. The mask's design was interpreted into a series of angles, with a few stylistic choices like the "mouthplate" reflecting G1 movie designs. I then added some lines based off of the generalized shape of Protector masks, and made the mask transparent (like the Trans-Neon-Orange Mask Of Fire) to better showcase the head geometry beneath it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. Comments and criticism- or any remark at all, actually- are highly appreciated.
