  1. IC: Vlad / Gym Maze "Hold on, ve don't vant to lose each other!" Vlad called after Garrotte, beginning to hurry after her and motioning to his teammates to follow. * * * IC: Thurisaz / Gym Maze "Of course," Thurisaz agreed, "but how is your aim? I ask, Tube, because I am wondering if it might be better for the team if someone else gets to use it for this assignment." The generous Turahk hardly wanted to redistribute his vassals' assets, but it was important now to ensure the their team performed well in this assignment. To that end, he was still waiting on reports from Aerahk and Paladin as well. * * * IC: Gaever / Forge Gaever raised an eyebrow, embarrassed herself to have startled her friend in this way. "I did not mean to alarm you," she apologized. She waited a moment, awkwardly, before continuing with her next question. "Considering the staff's new ability to separate, is your preferred attachment still an axe?" she asked.
  2. IC: Thurisaz / Gym Maze The stately Turahk landed with his entourage on the roof of the building. "Aerahk, Paladin, stay close but see if you can spot anyone from this vantage point," he instructed, before turning to Tube. "So Tube, this gauntlet you serendipitously discovered - are you good at using it?" he inquired. If he wasn't, maybe it would be more effective for the group if he would lend it to someone else.
  3. IC: Vlad / Gym Maze Vlad shrugged. "I just vant us safe," he said, "but if ve do vant to encounter other groups, I bet ve should head invard. Zat large buildink ist going to draw people in." * * * IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam Jayar paid close attention to the Shadow Kraata's reaction. Not positive regarding the Makuta; possibly as Spiriah's spawn they knew what it was to be nuisances. It was a good sign that Reach accepted his reasoning though. And importantly, he revealed that he knew of the Toa, and the outcome of the battle: they had been watching closely for some time. Would they have intervened if things went truly bad, he wondered? And what other information did they have? As for meeting at their camp, he saw no reason not to. It wasn't like his group would be at any greater a disadvantage there than they were here, and perhaps the Hand would be more open to sharing information in their own home - or at least supplies and a place safe from unknown dangers. "Sounds reasonable," he agreed, glancing around the group in case anyone had any objections.
  4. IC: Gaever / Forge Without further delay Gaever began the work. With a finger dripping emerald plasma, she began to heat the center of the staff to a dull red glow. Not to melting, of course - only to weaken it so that she could cut it like bread with the saw she flipped out of a finger on her other hand. When the halves had been split and the edges smoother she began to carve notches, identical to the existing ones, into the new end of each with a blazing claw. It was a delicate process, requiring precise movements to avoid disturbing the staff's shape. Once she was satisfied with each piece, she gave the modified end a final warming, for a consistent hardening. Then she thrust it into the icy water Phantom had brought, quenching it with a hiss of vapor. Splitting the staff was just the first part. Creating the connector was arguably more complicated. If it was to hold the staff together tightly, it would need to be active and precise. But this was exactly Gaever's forte. She laboriously fashioned a snug-fitting collar, meticulously crafting a latch in each end which would clamp protrusions firmly into the notches. Her deliberate, delicate movements only grew more precise as the minutes passed; she was absorbed in the artisan flow. Finally she began to quench the individual components, then assemble them; this was no simple single part. At last she slipped the last fastener into the second latch, melting it tight with a dainty drop of plasma, and the connector was complete. She clamped it down on one half and then the other, drawing in a breath as she did, then exhaled with soft satisfaction. "It is complete," she announced, turning and holding it out to Phantom.
  5. IC: Thurisaz / Gym Maze Thurisaz nodded, satisfied. "We should all stay close together anyways, but yes, Paladin, that would be good." With an elegant leap he switched into flight mode, leading his group up to the top of the building beside them. If Icarax had given everyone a little breathing room, this should be a safe move so early in the game. * * * IC: Vlad / Gym Maze Vlad looked thoughtful. "Zat vould probably be zer most effective inside a building," he speculated. "I suggest ve make our vay inside, unless anyvun else has a different proposal."
  6. IC: Vlad / Copied City The Vorahk was glad he wasn't VIP, he would rather defend the others than have them defend him. But now they needed a plan. "Vell, do ve vant to track down other groups, or more fortify a position unt vait for zem to come to us?" he asked. Both seemed feasible options. * * * IC: Gaever / Forge While Phantom journeyed to the river, Gaever was preparing the staff. To measure its length, she pulled a length of protodermis cable from her pile of materials and stretched it from end to end. Then she folded one end back to the other and pulled the center until both halves were taught. The point she could draw it to in this fashion was halfway across the staff, and she inscribed a mark there with a claw. She had already set aside materials for a central connector when Phantom came in. "Ah, thank you," she acknowledged sincerely. Clearly some of the water had spilled, but as none of the working components of this job were very deep, there enough. "It can be set on the ground here." Now that she had water and everything was ready, the staff could be cut. "Are you ready for me to do it?" she asked Phantom. She wanted to be sure, and Phantom to know she wasn't being ignored.
  7. IC: Thurisaz / Gym The sovereign Turahk thought for a moment. Seeking higher ground was the obvious action. Should they subvert that and stick to the streets? No, he decided, other than Aerahk their team was poorly suited to sneaking around alleyways. Overall they seemed better suited to a rooftop battle. "Let's get on top of that building," he decided, pointing to an adjacent one of moderate height. "From there we can move rooftop to rooftop, or take a defensive position." The carmine tower of inspiration turned to his reluctant vassal. "I appreciate your loyalty, Tube," he answered rousingly, "but for just this game, I need you to put yourself first. If we're fighting, do fight. But don't let anyone capture or disable you, for my sake. For victory's sake."
  8. IC: Gaever / Forge "It will be carefully done," Gaever assured her as she took the staff solemnly, knowing it was important to be careful with it. "You can watch." She opened the door to the forge and stepped inside. The interior was still mostly bare; the fireplace was empty, the furniture consisted of two large stones left inside to serve as temporary chairs and the worktable Gaever had thought to build into the walls in one corner. The late-night moonlight shining through the windows colored gray the few leftover scraps of wood and stone that still lay on the floor. But in every direction it was far less cramped than a Corpus dorm, and clearly had the potential to be quite livable. It felt like home. The Rahkshi of Plasma dropped the metal she had gathered on the ground in the corner of the room and set the staff on the worktable. She picked up one of the wooden scraps and ignited it in a blaze of plasma, the tossed it into the fireplace for light and heat. Then she pushed one of the stony chairs over to the worktable and sat down to begin work. Her first task was to take one of the scrap sheets in plasma-lit hands and shape it, glowing with heat, into a crude bucket. "Water is required," she explained as she worked, rolling another small piece into a thin rod, "because heat will be used to work the metal, but it must then be cooled rapidly to be of high quality." She poked holes through the bucket with a glowing claw and bent the rod through as a handle. "So would fill this at the river once it cools?" she asked Phantom. "The staff will not be modified before you return." In the meantime, she would locate the exact center of the staff and begin work on end connectors.
  9. IC: Vlad / Gym Vlad shook his head; it wasn't so simple. "I vould still feel zer cold if my arm vere dunked in ice vater. Zis ist zer same vay," he explained.
  10. IC: Vlad / Gym Wait really? "Vell, er... I guess ve vill continue to get along, zen," the glowing Vorahk remarked. * * * IC: Thurisaz / Gym A spike-launching gauntlet was remarkable anyways, but one that magically returned the spikes? "I'm impressed," the worthy Turahk asserted. "Was that just lying about in the Armory?" He hadn't thought such elaborate weaponry so freely supplied.
  11. Corpus Rahkshi made an entire page today. Quite exciting.

  12. IC: Gaever / Forge "Certainly. Compared to a Rahkshi suit, a staff can be modified with relative ease," Gaever assured her. She was already sketching out a latch design in her head.
  13. IC: Gaever / Forge "Hmm..." She thought about it as they approached the forge. It should probably be something effective in combat, yet with use outside of it; it should be not complex, unusual, or cruel. And it had to fit on a rather lengthy staff. A spear seemed too minimal, a shovel too useless... "An axe end seems suitable," she soon decided. "Practical and effective in combat, but perhaps outside as well." She considered the staff. "The shaft itself could also be modified to split into two smaller shafts, if you so desired," she offered. "Different attachments might be feasible then." She would understand if Phantom preferred not too, though. For some, there was value to a thing in its original state.
  14. IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam "Well, the Matoran hate and fear us. For the Makuta we're a nuisance to control. The Dark Hunters would as soon kill as impress us," Jayar pointed out patiently. "And apparently Toa will attack us on sight. Other Rahkshi seem our best bet." He was attentive to any special reaction to any of those, Toa in particular. * * * IC: Thurisaz / Gym "Alright. Let's see..." Thurisaz glanced around the room briefly. "I think you would get along with Kororia," the helpful Turahk decided, indicating the small Rahkshi of Elasticity. "She's the short squishy one; she's very friendly and welcoming." Impressively so, to win over even Ezec. * * * IC: Vlad / Gym He realized how silly that sounded. "Vell, in zer same vay a typical Rahkshi ist 'afraid' of zer light," he tried to explain. "It pains zem, blinds zem. It's like zat... but vith darkness." Absurd? Probably, but what ill-fated student of Corpus Rahkshi wasn't?
  15. IC: Vlad / Gym Vlad tried not to look too incredulous. "Er... have you noticed me?" he asked Diode. "Afraid of zer darkness, absorbs energy, long cloak, veird accent... zat ist a vampire. Vhether or not zer description comes from stories, it applies to me." * * * IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam Jayar tensed as Era's loose speech upset a delicate balance. "There aren't many sentient Rahkshi wandering around," he told Reach. "We thought maybe we could learn from you." It was not false, for him at least. These were six incredibly powerful and experienced Rahkshi, and considering their apparent sanity and that peculiar encounter with the Toa, he was increasingly uncertain in the Order's assumption that they were behind the killings. They certainly had much to teach, if they were willing.
  16. IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam "For now, talk," Jayar proposed, with cautious confidence. "They don't seem hostile so far." * * * IC: Vlad / Gym "I am a Vorahk," Vlad answered Garrotte. "But I try not to use my power on other Rahkshi... I can get... carried avay. So... all in all, you could say I'm a... vampire, of sorts." There, he said it. If there were any Rahkshi who could put up with that, wouldn't it be these? * * * IC: Thurisaz / Gym The thoughtful Turahk closed his eyes and took a deep, meditative breath, focusing on smoothing the sharp edges of his thoughts. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," Thurisaz apologized compassionately, raising his empty palms in a gesture of peaceful intent. "I just thought I could help you find a team."
  17. IC: Thurisaz / Gym His faithful vassals departing, Thurisaz turned into the crowd. It was evident that most Rahkshi had already found a partner or two, but a handful still looked to be wandering alone. One Rahkshi of Mind Reading looked particularly wavering. The sociable Turahk wandered over to Oshi. "You look nervous," he remarked gently. "Having trouble finding a team?" * * * IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam "Almost certainly," Jayar said to Shield. "They match exactly."
  18. IC: Vlad / Gym What could he do? "Vell, I've been through a fair share of fights, unt can hold my own," he started. "Unt I... can't easily be blinded by lights..." There wasn't a lot more to it, really.
  19. IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam Why had he assumed they would understand? They language they spoke must be a New Breed invention. Or something inherent to it? A fascinating question. But not exactly the thing to contemplate now. He nodded confirmation of the Shadow Kraata's query. Then he turned to Era. "I guess that for reasons even the Makuta haven't yet pinned down, we're sentient," he suggested. "That somehow, we are something new."
  20. IC: Thurisaz / Gym The crimson Turahk's grin was icy as he strode away confidently. "Insufferable, I agree," he remarked tersely. "Arrogance is the tragic flaw of most of my family. Those two, though, go so far as declaring themselves gods." He clenched a chiseled fist. "And if nothing more, I plan on watching their defeat." He cheered up somewhat with that. "So. We can probably prepare. The three of you should go to the Armory and gather a few things our team lacks that might be handy in this urban environment. I'm mostly thinking ranged weapons, for firing from rooftops or across alleys, and some rope or chain for setting traps or keeping hostages. But grab anything you think we'll need." His ruby eyes glinted craftily. "I'm going to help some of the stragglers find teams."
  21. IC: Jayar / Forest of Kaam Jayar whirled around at the laughter, prepared for a confrontation, but the sardonic laughter didn't seem malicious. At least not right now. It was embarrassing though, being belittled so by a member of the Hand of Spiriah. In the ensuing silence of his companions he briefly considered calling Reach by name - for the Shadow Kraata of Adaptation surely must be he, the leader of the Hand. But it was decisively a bad idea to reveal they had such intel. "Are you only here to laugh at us?" he eventually asked cautiously.
  22. IC: Thurisaz / Gym "Later," Thurisaz assured Paladin and Tube grimly. They were, after all, about to enter a combative competition. He stepped smoothly past Paladin and Tube and stood toe to toe with Aza, fiery reflections of his carmine eyes burning in her own. "To have gods at your back is to ask to be stabbed there, sister of mine." He stepped away as elegantly. "Anyways, I think we'll be going," he announced. "See you in the assignment, sister." He winked conspiratorially at Ezec and Kororia, then turned and lead his companions away from the seething self-proclaimed god.
  23. IC: Thurisaz / Gym "I've got it," Thurisaz soothed with electric calm, putting a tensed defusing hand on Paladin's shoulder. The vivid Turahk was almost basking in Aza's indignation, poised yet to respond should she snap. "No? Well, now's your chance to prove yourself," he assured her. "Some VIP will be very lucky to have you in their service."
  24. IC: Thurisaz / Gym "Well it's nice to hear that you care about them," Thurisaz replied affably, "even if your concerns are so misplaced. My companions have a team unrivaled in loyalty and unity. Do yours?" He paused, feigning an awkward realization with a roguish grin. "Or, will they, I suppose. Whenever you find some."
  25. IC: Shark / Hallways "I don't mind. I just hope you find it for yourself," Shark told them. At Dissent's diatribe he looked up coolly. "This Rahkshi was visibly upset, so I came to try comfort them," he explained, not moving.
