  1. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) ”As you wish,” she replied with a chuckle, grabbed the bowl and poured the rest of its contents into her mouth. After absorbing it all she put the bowl back down and stood up. ”Anyways, I should go get my hoverbike before it sinks beneath the waves. Have a good meal.” She left the meeting room and walked down the stairs and the ramp. She walked past some strangers near the ship and headed to the entrance of Ko-Pou where she had parked her bike. When she arrived, it was nowhere to be seen. She was too late. The hoverbike had sunk beneath the waves, and while she could theoretically retrieve it, its machinery was now flooded with water and would be difficult to repair. She sighed and shrugged. ”Oh well,” she mumbled to herself. ”Easy come, easy go.” OOC: niidak has lost her vehicle, it will be removed from her profile.
  2. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Niidak nodded slowly. ”Yes. Memories of the past are some of the few things that bring me comfort. But that is all they are, mere memories.” She turned to look at the Le-Matoran as he entered and announced that Triage had become the captain of the ship temporarily. Then she looked back at her and grinned. ”I suppose now you have the power to make my employment official, Captain.” @Tarn
  3. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou, The Taku) Niidak was about to put another spoonful in her mouth when Triage asked a question. Her hand stopped as she thought of her past and how perfect everything had been. "I miss my former life more than I miss Xia," she said, sighed deeply and finally absorbed the soup on her spoon. "But I suppose we should all learn to let go of the past. We're probably stuck on this sinking island until the end." @Tarn
  4. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) The bowl was almost empty by now, so Niidak refilled it by grabbing a pot and pouring more stew into it. While she was doing so, she replied to Triage. "A flattering description of my home," she said. "Yet accurate, I suppose. Though the Mountain isn't that scary after you've actually climbed it, as all Vortixx have to do. It's a rite of passage of sorts, a male and a female attempting to reach the summit at the same time. Some don't survive, but mostly because one of the two partners betrays the other. It's easier to just work together, which is what I did. However, the social status of the one who returns alone is far greater." Niidak didn't care for status. Her climbing partner later became her closest companion. While other Vortixx mocked them, she didn't care about that either. She only cared about him. The bowl was full again, so she put the pot back on the table and continued. "As for Pridak, well, we never cared who ruled over us. What mattered was that we got to make a profit by making and selling weapons. The politics of the stupid war were of little concern to us." @Tarn@BULiK
  5. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) She focused on consuming her soup-stew mix as the conversation diverged from business and the Onu-Matoran joined in. It sounded like the crewmembers weren’t entirely familiar with each other yet, probably because they hadn’t been together for that long. Little time had passed since the cataclysm at Metru-Nui, but it felt like a much longer period. Everything was strange on this island. Perhaps that included the passage of time. ”At this rate there won’t be any islands,” she muttered in response to the Toa. ”Maybe being on an airship is my best bet to survive.” Deep inside, she still held hope that they would return to their home islands, somehow. They were still out there somewhere, weren’t they? Surely there was a way to go back, so they could all return to their old lives? Probably not. @Tarn @BULiK
  6. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) No contract? How uncivilized. Then again, everyone on this isle had regressed into barbarism, herself included. She took another spoonful of the stew-soup mixture. What Triage said about being at your lowest made Niidak think. Was she still at her lowest? Or had she managed to climb out of it even a little? She didn’t know the answer, but knew that without change, she’d never climb anywhere. ”I’m Niidak of Xia,” she replied. ”Former arms dealer during the war. Guess I’ll be the ship’s mechanic now.” @Tarn
  7. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Almost instinctively, she was going to say no in response to the offer, but then she stopped and actually thought about it. Scavenging was a difficult and dangerous job, which hardly paid off. On her recent scavenging trip, an Untethered had come after her, forcing her to escape. All she had found was an iStone and a cushion. Everyone on this island was fighting to survive. What use would they have for items of comfort or luxury? Why was she risking her life in pursuit of worthless junk? While this offer was not comparable to being an arms dealer back on Xia, it provided a reliable source of income. And a home, which she still did not have. Perhaps she should stop trying to survive alone on this Karzahni-island. After absorbing several spoonfuls of the soup-stew mixture, she finally broke her silence and responded. ”Well. Due to the flooding, I don’t have a home anymore, so I could use a new one. If your ship gets damaged like this regularly, then you’ll certainly need the skills of a Vortixx. But I assume I’d need to sign a contract with the Commander to become a crew member.” @Tarn
  8. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Niidak took a bowl and a spoon, then grabbed some of the pots and poured both stew and soup directly into the bowl until it was more than full, with some of the contents spilling onto the table. Suffice to say, she was very hungry. She absorbed a spoonful of the food and finally acknowledged the Bo-Toa's presence. She remembered how she had lied about going home (which she didn't even have) rather than telling the embarrasing truth about scavenging for scraps in the Junk Fields like some Rahi. She now regretted doing that, as she felt like they would've just given her fuel if she had just asked nicely. Nevertheless, she decided to stick to her story. "Ah yes. This isn't the first time today I meet someone familiar. You notice how the seas have risen? That's why I am back here again instead of being at my home. Because Kini-Koro was under attack, I've also been somewhat stranded. I helped to fix this ship in return for payment while waiting for things to calm down." She looked around the table, not seeing the Turaga who had accompanied the Bo-Toa. "Where's that Turaga, by the way?" @Tarn
  9. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) It took a while, but Niidak had finished installing the new engines, stocking them with disks and fixing the main engine on the upper deck. She sighed and stretched her ailing muscles. In a way, she found it amusing how she was doing such mundane and laborious tasks. Not long ago, she could’ve earned a living without lifting a claw. And gained actual currency, too, instead of being paid in provisions and spare parts. But her life had changed, and all she could do about it now was chuckle to herself sardonically. Odour of food entered her nostrils, and she suddenly realized how hungry she was. Not only had she spent her energy reserves on work, but it had also been a long time since she had consumed any energy. It was time to enjoy the fruits of her labour, literally. She went to the dinner table and sat down as her Le-Matoran ”boss” came up the stairs. ”I fixed the engines” she said to him and pointed at the main engine behind her. ”Feel free to check them anytime if you want. I’ve earned myself a meal that I don’t have to pay for, and I assume it’s being delivered upstairs.” The Matoran was followed by many others, who were most likely refugees from the newly formed and slowly sinking island. Some of them were familiar faces, yet she only glanced at them briefly as her hungry reptilian eyes instead focused on the food that was being brought. @BULiK and all the people coming to dine
  10. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) The Matoran questioning her abilities further added insult to injury. Niidak rolled her eyes. ”If you can’t trust a Vortixx to do a job like this properly, then I don’t know who you can trust. But fine, if you want to check everything then feel free to. Even if it ends up being a waste of time.” Rather than getting into an argument with her employer, she promptly left and headed to install the three levitation engines one by one. It would take a while, but it was not a challenge for her. OOC: @BULiK
  11. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Niidak was pleased that at least one of the strangers was helpful, though the robot's disc made her feel even more redundant than the Toa Commander's mask had done. Technology was her race's inherent talent, yet it seemed to matter little when masks or discs could outclass the Vortixx. At least it meant she had even less work to do now. She turned to the Matoran as he listed the remaining tasks, as if she wasn't perfectly aware of them. It was strange taking orders from a mere Matoran, and even stranger when she seemed to get most of the remaining workload. "Yes, yes, I know. I'll take care of the engines." She turned to the Ta-Toa. "I don't need you to break anything, but some heavy lifting could be useful--" And there she went. Niidak sighed and picked up one of the engines from the floor. Before she went to install it, she looked at the Le-Matoran again. "And what are you going to do, besides give out orders?" OOC: @BULiK
  12. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Niidak and the matoran were busy installing the cargo bay doors when they were interrupted by strangers appearing out of thin air. Niidak quickly prepared to pull out her knife in self defence, but one of the Toa crew members appeared to be friendly with the intruders, so she calmed down. She listened to them talking. Apparently, this big robot was another teleporting NUVA with a giant mech. She wasn't sure if seeing two NUVAs in one day meant that she was lucky, or that there were a lot of them around. Whatever the case, she was glad to hear that at least one of the beasts attacking Kini-Koro was dead. She was less glad to hear that the entire island was indeed sinking, or "disappearing". Now that she had heard the news, she lost interest in the conversation. Besides, she hated being distracted while at work. "Hey, can you all go chat somewhere else?" she asked the strangers. "Unless you want to help us repair this ship." OOC: @Snelly@pokemonlover360@Tarn
  13. OOC: i assume its okay if i bunny the tohunga a little? @BULiK IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) With the help of the Matoran, all the spare parts, fuel and other things were brought down to the cargo bay relatively quickly. That part of the ship had suffered the most damage, so she had decided to start the repairs there. She pulled out her seismic pickaxe (she was happy to call it hers and not Sidra’s) and picked up the protosteel beams. ”You take this and the welding kit, and start fixing the hull by welding in the beams and the plates,” she told the two Matoran. ”In the meantime I’ll start splicing the cables. When we’re done, we can put in the doors and connect the cables to them.” The three got to work, making relatively quick progress in putting the cargo bay back together.
  14. oh right my bad, i’ll edit it. funnily enough, i made a joke in an earlier niidak post about her assuming miru could levitate things when it in fact couldn’t.
  15. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Niidak frowned as the Matoran listed all the damage. While it was bad, she was a pessimist, so it was actually better than she had thought. Nevertheless, she was uncertain how much she could do without proper spare parts, and it's not like she could simply conjure them out of thin air. Apparently, the Commander could. She raised an eyebrow as she realized that the Toa had used his mask to create everything that was needed. It truly must've been a rare and special mask if it was able to do so, and Niidak almost regretted not asking for it in exchange for her help. Almost, because she knew there was no way anyone would ever let go of such a powerful item. She even wondered if the Toa had truly needed her help, or if the mask would've been able to repair all the damage by itself. Whatever the case, all she had to do now was use the parts to fix the vessel. Her work was more than cut in half. "I'll get to it right away," Niidak said to the Toa, her monotone voice not showing any signs of her amazement. She turned to the two Matoran again. "Help me carry these down to the cargo bay, if you want your ship repaired faster. You can leave the welding kit, unless you want to help me out. I have my own tool for that." @BULiK
  16. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou/The Taku) Stating the price of anything was always a risk, as some folk assumed she offered her wares and skills freely. Even if she wasn’t running a business anymore, she was still trying to survive, and generosity didn’t get food on her plate. Thankfully, the Captain was more reasonable than the Commander, and the latter came to his senses. It made Niidak wonder if their relationship was more equal than one would assume. She uncrossed her arms and offered a friendly smile to the two to ease the tension. ”We have a deal then. While I don’t need a ride as there’s portal nearby, everything else sounds good to me. In exchange, I’ll use my technical skills to make sure this thing can continue to fly in the first place.” While back in the day she had preferred written contracts, times had changed and she would have to accept a verbal agreement. Besides, she felt the two were trustworthy enough. At least the Captain was. She turned to the Le-Matoran. ”Berys, yes? I’m Niidak. Show me all the damages so I can get a clear idea of what needs fixing. Or well, from what I’ve seen it might be easier to list what doesn’t need fixing.” @BULiK@Tarn
  17. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) Niidak already regretted not simply introducing herself -- the matoran didn't say she was offering to help for a price. She glanced at the occupants of the bridge, finding it curious how there was a Vahki on board, but her optics mostly focused on the commander on deck. There was something oddly familiar about him, yet Niidak couldn't put a claw on it. His mask seemed especially fancy, though she did not recognize it due to her basic knowledge about masks. She crossed her arms and frowned. "Well, before I do anything else, I do have to say that I don't work for free. While widgets have lost their relevancy, I do accept payment in most things, even mere food." She guessed that the talk about an evacuation had something to do with the island sinking and Kini-Koro being under threat. This potentially meant repairs of the ship were urgent, thus giving her another reason to charge extra. @BULiK
  18. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) Negotiate something? What else was there to negotiate about, besides the price of her assistance? Nothing else interested Niidak, in any case. ”Sure. This ship has both a captain and a commander on board? Must be an important vessel then.” Which meant she could possibly try charging extra. She climbed up the ramp and followed Arnex inside the ship, headed to the bridge to meet with the two authority figures there. As she was walking, she observed the damages from the inside, and concluded they were was plenty to fix. Yet another reason to charge extra. As Arnex got onto the bridge, Niidak was not far behind. She decided to let the matoran make the introductions. @BULiK @Tarn and whoever else is on the bridge of the Taku
  19. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) Niidak sensed an opportunity to make a profit and grinned. "Repairs, eh? Well, as a Vortixx I know a thing or two about fixing things. Maybe I can help with that, for a small fee. Though looking at your ship, it's plenty of work so you should probably find others to help with it, too." "As for the one giant robot I saw, well, they teleported to the valley of Kini-Koro as far as I know. Perhaps they went there to fight with the beasts." Sidra had said she needed to talk with a ghost, but Niidak didn't know what she meant by that, so she didn't bother mentioning it to the matoran. They probably wouldn't get it either. @BULiK
  20. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) There was not just one, but multiple monsters at Kini-Koro? This island truly was Karzahni, full of beasts and now sinking into the sea. At this rate, all the settlements would be gone soon. But perhaps there was still some hope, as cynical as she was about the future. ”I thought there was only one monster. And NUVA? What are those? I do know about big robots, I recently saw one...” Perhaps Sidra was one of them, which would explain some things. She had seen the size and felt the powers of the mech, which may be great enough to deal with any threats to the settlements. Her thoughts were interrupted by the matoran’s question. ”Oh, well most of the outpost has been emptied of guards, and now it seems to be slowly sinking as the sea levels keep rising. Nothing out of the ordinary on this Mata-Nui-forsaken island, really.” She wondered if those giant robots could do anything about the vast ocean. Probably not. @BULiK
  21. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) Shortly after entering the outpost, Niidak had found a metal chair lying around, seemingly unused. As most of the place was deserted anyways, she claimed it for herself and sat down on it, taking a rest while waiting for news to arrive from Kini-Koro. Not that she cared much about the place, but losing potential customers was always a bad thing. As she was relaxing, leaning against a wall on the chair, she could see the few occupants of the outpost running around. She did see a few familiar faces she had seen in the wastes before, but they appeared to be busy. It was a good enough excuse to not get up from the chair. Then an airship made a landing that could best be described as a narrowly avoided crash landing. She could’be sworn she had seen the same ship in Kini-Koro a while ago, albeit in a much better condition. Perhaps it had come from there? Maybe this was the best way to find out if anyone was still alive at Kini-Koro. Reluctantly, she got up from the chair and approached the airship. As she went to it, she saw how the sea levels outside the outpost had continued to rise while she had taken a rest, to the point where they were now separated from the mainland. At least her hoverbike could, well, hover, so it wasn’t much of an issue for her. ”Hey there, stranger, are you coming from Kini-Koro? The condition of your airship suggests it does,” she shouted to the matoran in the ship she could see. @BULiK i’m assuming Arnex is visible from the ground as the ramp is opened
  22. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) Niidak stopped as a foreign thought intruded her mind. It was a strange feeling, but the voice was undoubtedly that of Sidra's. It reminded her of the headache she had gotten back on the beach, so she figured Sidra had psychic abilities of some kind. She turned around to face the mech and walked back closer to it. "Sheesh, could've warned me before doing telepathy. So, you're telling me you can also teleport at will wherever you want? Is there anything your wonder machine isn't capable of?" she said with a chuckle. "Anyhow, I guess you really are crazy enough to go to Kini-Koro. I'm not, unfortunately, so I'll stay here like I said. Unlike you, I don't have a giant mech to keep myself safe." She bowed slightly. "Farewell then, until our paths cross again. Don't forget I owe you one." @Gecko Greavesy
  23. IC: Niidak (Ko-Pou) As always, things did not go as planned. Kini-Koro was under attack, and nobody would care about what the League was doing. So, she'd have to wait. While the guard suggested she should help, she didn't really see what a mere scavenger could do against a giant beast. "Thank you for the information, guard. I think I'll stay here. I'd appreciate it if you told me when Bronk returns." She turned to Sidra. "Looks like we're going to have to stay here for a while, unless you want to go fight the Tahtorak with that mech of yours. I suppose you can help out the guard if you're crazy enough for that. As for me, I feel like I deserve a break after everything I've gone through recently." She then drove her hoverbike to a nearby spot that seemed fit for parking, got off and headed inside the outpost. @Sparticus147 @Gecko Greavesy
  24. IC: Niidak (Near Metru-Koro) Considering Sidra had somehow acquired a giant mech and hunted down Untethered, Niidak wasn't particularly bewildered when she said she'd talk to a ghost. "Thanks, but I've got my own ride. Though it hasn't proven to be reliable, so if it breaks down again I could use a lift. Anyhow, let's get going." She pushed the pedal to the metal and drove off westwards towards the outpost. As she approached, she could see that it was even emptier than before, with only a skeleton garrison guarding the outskirts. Where had they all gone? Once she got close enough to the outpost, she spotted a nearby guard and drove up to them. "Hey there, do you happen to know where Captain Bronk is? I have urgent news for him." @Sparticus147 @Gecko Greavesy
