  1. IC: Niidak (Near Metru-Koro) "I was on my way to Ko-Pou when I got distracted. Was headed to Kini-Koro through the portal, though it seems like there's a storm in the valley." Ominous thunder echoed in the distance. The earth rumbled. "I'm sure it'll pass soon though. What about you?" @Gecko Greavesy
  2. IC: Niidak (Near Metru-Koro) Niidak was glad Sidra let her keep the pickaxe. Perhaps she could sell it for a good price, or keep it in case she needed it. ”I still owe you my service, if you ever happen to need it.” "Anyways, not going to ask how you got that from Kini-Nui, that place is strange anyhow. But I am glad to hear you got rid of some Untethered. There's more of them in the Junk-- I mean Relic Fields, one of them tried to get me last night. Though I wouldn't recommend you to go there, that place is rather... busy now." @Gecko Greavesy
  3. IC: Niidak (Near Metru-Koro) The last thing Niidak had expected to see was a familiar face. She blinked in confusion. "Oh, it's you. Sidra, wasn't it? Where in Mata... I mean where on Zakaz did you get a giant mech from?" She suddenly remembered something and reached out to her back, pulling out the seismic pickaxe. "I still have this by the way. I don't need it anymore, but uh, I somehow feel like that mech can do its job quite well." "Sorry if I ask too many questions by the way. I've never seen technology quite like this, it's fascinating. And I did not get to see what you used it for as I was... observing something else." She glanced towards the Junk Fields in the distance. @Gecko Greavesy
  4. IC: Niidak (Near Metru-Koro) The giant mech seemed displeased, but at least it hadn't tried to kill her yet. She chuckled and said "Sorry, sorry, old habits. It's hard to get used to your god being dead and all that. Remain calm, I have no interest in conflict with... something your size. "But yes, what exactly are you? I saw you from a distance, though I couldn't tell what you were doing. For some reason, I got a headache just from looking at you, so clearly you're some kind of powerful being." @Gecko Greavesy
  5. IC: Niidak (Wilderness) She was unsure why, but looking at the silver giant gave her a headache, so she turned back to follow the airships. They flew past Metru-Koro, towards the Junk Fields where she had come from, and landed there. Niidak frowned. The fleet was too large to be some sort of exploratory expedition. In fact, it was so large she still believed it was all ships the League had. Why would they send everything to the Junk Fields, a bunch of uninhabited ruins infested by Untethered and containing little of value, as she had so painfully learned? Of course, she could just go and ask, but first of all she wasn't sure if the League wouldn't just vaporize strangers on sight, and second of all she did not want to go back to that awful place. She lost sight of the airships once they descended behind the many knowledge towers and other ruined structures of the Junk Fields. But she had seen enough. The League was up to something and she was sure someone at Ko-Pou or Kini-Koro would be eager to know that, for a price. She was about to put her telescope back in her satchel, when she decided to take another glance at the strange being near the beach, out of pure and genuine curiosity. It was a rare feeling for her. What she saw was a mech walking away from the skull, headed inland. Something had happened, though she had missed it while she had looked at the Junk Fields. She now felt even more curious than before, yet knew that the mech was a potential danger. She had gotten headache from just looking at it, which felt like no mere coincidence. Despite her reasoning, and her desire to just head to Ko-Pou, curiosity nevertheless overcame her and she drove off on her hoverbike, headed towards the giant. It was a short drive away, but as she approached she could truly comprehend the gargantuan size of the thing. She was afraid to get too close now, fearing it could simply crush her with its foot without even using a weapon of any kind. She stopped her hoverbike in the giant's path, which she felt like was an incredibly stupid idea. Hesitantly, she called out to it, hoping it could hear. "H-hello? What... in Mata-Nui's name are you?" Her foot was ready to push the pedal to the metal if the giant responded aggressively. @Gecko Greavesy
  6. IC: Niidak (Wilderness) A distant echo was carried across the waves, and Niidak’s gaze turned downwards from the sky. She frowned and searched for the source of the sound, her telescope soon pointing at the skull of the Great Spirit. There, she saw rising steam, strange water and a silver giant standing among it all. After a moment of bewildered silence, she simply muttered ”I should’ve just stayed in Kini-Koro.”
  7. IC: Niidak (Wilderness) As Niidak drove towards Ko-Pou on her hoverbike, she noticed that in addition to the dark clouds behind her in the east, there were clouds in the north as well. She predicted they’d come right over her and soak her wet, likely causing her hoverbike to malfunction as well. But as the clouds approached and the twilight sky grew brighter, she realized it was something else. She stopped her bike and narrowed her eyes, before remembering she actually had a fully repaired telescope in her satchel. After grabbing it, she took a closer look and could clearly see that the clouds were in fact a fleet of airships. She even recognized one, as she had seen it a while ago in the Relic Fields. This was the full might of the League headed east, but she did not know what their destination was. Was it Kini-Koro? Had war broken out again while she was gone? Before she would’ve seen war as a blessing, but now she saw it as a curse. Realizing she was out in the open, she drove behind a nearby rocky outcropping and observed the fleet from cover. She wanted to see if they truly were headed for Kini-Koro. If they were, she was sure she could get some kind of reward by warning the refugees in advance. If not, well, she could still get some kind of valuable information. Knowledge was just one trade good among many, after all. It’s a shame the Matoran of the Knowledge Towers hadn’t been aware of this.
  8. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) She spotted her hoverbike and walked up to it, paranoically continuing to observe her surroundings in the case more Untethered would appear. Once she reached the bike, which was still where she had left it, she tried to focus on finishing the repairs. It took a short while, but with her knack for technology she was soon done. She quickly hopped onto the bike and hit the pedal to the metal to drive away from this place as fast as possible. It was somewhat difficult to navigate at night, but at least she could see the silhouettes of the ruins to avoid crashing into them. As she drove, she pondered where to go next. This journey was supposed to fund a small vacation of sorts, but the iStone she had found was probably not enough to fund one. She might have to go out scavenging for more, and next time she’d definitely go somewhere else. She was sick of the Junk Fields and their paper-filled crystal towers. The encounter with the Untethered had been the last straw. First, of course, she’d have to get rid of the items she had found, so she drove westward back to Ko-Pou. If Kini-Koroans wouldn’t buy her junk again, then perhaps the Tobduk-Koroans would. In either case, she’d need to go through the portal to Kini-Nui first. She noticed dark clouds gathering in the east, covering some of the stars. Looks like it was going to rain in Kini-Koro just as she was going there. Perfect timing, as always.
  9. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Well, that was an unpleasant sound. The Untethered was definitely coming up, and was going after her. The only conventional way out was down the stairs, and Niidak would prefer not to risk her life fighting against an undead creature that likely could not feel pain or care about losing a limb or two. She had to find another way to exit the building, so she looked behind herself. She’d just make a hole in the wall, of course. She ran to the opposite end of the room and thrust her spear at the crystal wall repeatedly, the sharp tip puncturing it and creating cracks in it. The crystal was fragile, but the spear wasn’t fast enough. She could still hear the creature approaching. So instead, she took out Sidra’s trusty seismic pickaxe, activating it and shattering the crystal, making a hole just large enough for her to fit through. She grabbed her Kanohi Miru from her satchel, then simply jumped out into the chilly night outside. As she fell, she placed the mask on her face and activated it, levitating somewhat clumsily onto the ground below as she lacked experience with using masks. The land was a little rough and too fast, but she only received minor bruises on her legs. She looked around, trying to spot her hoverbike in the dark while also trying to see if the Untethered had any friends nearby. While her pursuer was still inside, she hoped she had enough time to finish the repairs, so she could leave this cursed place and never return. The Junk Fields were certainly not the scavengers’ paradise she had believed them to be. OOC: @Eyru
  10. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Unfortunately, the room behind the locked door was no treasure vault, but just a regular-looking office. She didn’t know why it had been locked if it contained little of value, so either there was something hidden inside or the papers and books had once been important enough to warrant a locked door. Now, most of the contents in the room were utterly worthless as they did not help with survival on this cursed island. However, as she looked around the room her eyes widened as she saw an iStone that was almost fully intact. If it still worked, it’d be a practical and flexible device capable of various useful things as long as it could be charged. Items which had once been mundane and part of everyday life, like this iStone, could now be considered valuable. Niidak put the iStone in her satchel and examined the room further, but found nothing of value, just more worthless papers. She sighed and picked up a colourful cushion from the chair. It seemed comfortable enough, so maybe someone in Kini-Koro would like to acquire it, not that she had high hopes for it. It was junk, really, but at this point Niidak had abandoned the hope of finding anything besides that in the Junk Fields. She left the office, trying to comfort herself with the thought that at least she wouldn’t leave empty-handed now. However, as she headed back to the stairway, she heard the echo of distant footsteps coming from below. Her body froze. It must’ve been the Untethered. How had it found out her location? It didn’t really matter now — she had to prepare for the worst, so she equipped her spear, remaining completely quiet and listening closely to the sounds from below. If the Untethered knew she was upstairs, she’d be in trouble. OOC: @Eyru
  11. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Niidak was still trying to break down the locked door with her seismic pickaxe. OOC: @Eyru
  12. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Niidak attempted to open the door, but it would not budge. Thankfully, she still had the seismic pickaxe which had proven to be very useful in beheading that statue, even if it had turned out to be pointless in the end. Now, she could use it to get into the next room. If there was something of value there, then this entire trip would no longer be a waste of time and effort. She wasn’t particularly optimistic but was determined to keep looking for salvage until she’d have enough to turn a profit. She took out Sidra’s seismic pickaxe, activated it and tried to break through the door by force. Sparks flew out, illuminating the dim room. OOC: @Eyru
  13. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Niidak carefully entered the room, which looked similar to many other rooms in other towers she had explored. The entire Junk Fields reminder her mostly of Ko-Koro, which she knew had been a place of research and study. Yet instead of making experimental weapons or other such technologies (that she could sell easily on this savage island), the Matoran seemed to have spent most of their time studying the stars. Clearly that is why Metru-Nui ultimately fell and why she ended up stranded here, far from home. As a Vortixx, she knew that science which was not used to develop tools of death was a waste of time, and these ruins were a testament to this. It is just a shame that she had to suffer for their folly. Nevertheless, she explored the room thoroughly, desperate to find something valuable. Soon enough, she did find an emergency kit in relatively good condition, which was better than nothing. But it wasn't enough for her, so she approached the closed door and tried to open it. OOC: @Eyru
  14. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Niidak waited in the stairway for a while, but the Untethered did not come. Had it even seen her enter the tower? Or was it just trying to be cunning and sneak inside quietly? She doubted the shambling undead were intelligent enough for that. While she was there in the dark tower, she figured she could explore it a bit even if it was difficult to see anything. She just did not want to leave the Junk Fields empty-handed. Perhaps there'd be a functioning light source to make things easier, too, though that was optimistic. If nothing else, her dim heartlight illuminated the surroundings a little. So she carefully continued climbing up the stairs, headed to investigate the upper floors of the building while trying to avoid stumbling down the shadowy steps. She still listened carefully to any sounds coming from below, in case the Untethered would reappear. OOC: @Eyru
  15. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Like Niidak had expected, the undead creature left her hoverbike alone. She figured the Untethered weren't particularly intelligent - at least, they did not appear to be - and so thought that they wouldn't be good at playing hide and seek. If she managed to get out of the creature's sight, maybe it could abandon its pursuit and return to wandering aimlessly. Therefore she headed inside the nearest tower. It was pitch black inside, and the only illumination came from her heartlight. She did not know if Untethered could see in the dark, or if they could sense or smell living beings from afar, but trying to find a hiding place here was still better than attempting to outrun the thing. She quickly explored the entrance room, relying more on her sense of touch than her vision, and found a stairway leading up. She climbed it and hoped she wasn't walking into a dead end, but in case she was, she grasped the handle of her dagger with her claws. OOC: @Eyru
  16. well, judging by the new map, it looks like my character needs to learn how to swim soon
  17. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) ”Oh, hello there,” Niidak muttered as she saw the misshapen silhouette of the Untethered. ”Aren’t you a pretty one.” Niidak had seen Untethered before, back when she had lived in Metru-koro. This one had probably wandered into the ruins and had sensed her presence. She knew there was no negotiation or haggling with them, so it was time to go. Now. She did not dare trying to fix the bike while the ugly thing was approaching, as she doubted she could finish it in time despite being so close to being done. As always, she fully expected the worst possible outcome. She had a kanoka launcher but no disks, so it was of no use. All she had were her trusty spear and dagger, yet they wouldn’t be enough against the stumbling monster. Therefore she had no option than to run and hide, as she wasn’t a particularly skilled or strong fighter anyways. Abandoning her bike, which she presumed would be ignored by the monster who was probably more interested in her, she ran south, looking for any places to hide in that would be inaccesible to the clumsy creature. Despite her pessimism, she couldn’t imagine there being more than one Untethered in the ruins... that was impossible, surely? OOC: @Eyru
  18. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Night was falling, and the Junk Fields were looking increasingly eerie. But Niidak was more concerned about not seeing anything in the dark, as she had no light source with her. It was already proving hard enough to find anything valuable when the sun was still up. She sighed and turned her bike around, heading back towards Ko-Pou empty-handed. Yet after a while of driving, her scavenged hoverbike’s engine began to sputter and the vehicle slowed down to a crawl. Niidak rolled her eyes, stopped and hopped out of it to take a look at the malfunctioning machinery. She had to be quick as the sky got darker and darker, but the issue turned out to be more complex than she thought. As she got closer to fixing it, the sun sunk completely below the horizon, and she could barely see anything in the dim twilight. She glanced around herself as she felt unusually anxious. While she did not believe in ghosts, and wasn’t going to start believing now, she still felt like she should get out of here soon. But first, she’d have to finish repairing the engine. OOC: @Eyru
  19. @Eyru hey, sorry to bother but i think you mightve missed this message as you havent responded to it yet
  20. OOC: ”Thinking to get at once all the gold the goose could give, he killed it and opened it only to find nothing.” IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) Well, of course it didn’t work. All this effort had indeed been pointless. She sighed and tore off the mask from its face. The head wasn’t even worth something as a beautiful ornament anymore as it had become crude and jagged. Whatever magic had been in the statue was now truly gone. She muttered a swear word that was only known to Vortixx and tossed the head away like a piece of trash. As she walked back to her bike, she put the mask back in the satchel. At least she could now sell the Miru to someone. While she was here at the Junk Fields (the name was now even more fitting), she figured she might as well drive around and try to scavenge more scrap or relics to sell. Knowing her luck, she’d find nothing of value. At this point, she’d prefer finding another wounded Toa rather than a statue of any kind. OOC: @Eyru
  21. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) It worked, it worked! The pickaxe cut through stone like a knife through flesh. Niidak wished she could keep it for herself, but knew that she’d get in trouble if she did so. She kneeled and picked up the severed head, which appeared mostly intact. Now came the moment of truth: Was the head worth all this trouble? She reached into her satchel, grabbing the Kanohi Miru, and placed it on the stone face. She was prepared for the worst, which was nothing. If it stopped working after being severed from the body, then it was just a useless piece of rock. But if it did work, she’d be floating again, so she had to be ready to quickly take off the mask. This isn’t going to work, is it? she thought. OOC: @Eyru
  22. IC: Niidak (Relic Fields) After getting the fuel, Niidak walked to the place where she had hidden her hoverbike, and was pleased to find it intact and untouched. She filled its fuel reserves and drove back to the Junk Fields, to the plaza with the strange statue. The statue was still there, and there were no signs of life. The scratchmarks of her previous attempt at severing the head could still be seen on its stone neck. But this time, Niidak had a proper tool for the job. She hopped off the bike and took out the seismic pickaxe which had been loaned to her by Sidra. As she looked at the tool, her Vortixx mind immediately understood how it worked, but before actually using it she decided to practice a little by cutting off a piece of the pedestal. It was an elegant tool, and she couldn’t help but admire the craftsmanship of its creators. It was perfect for this task. She carefully aimed the pickaxe at the neck of the statue, and then powered up the tool, trying to once again behead Hafu’s work. OOC: @Eyru
  23. btw, is the list of approved player characters in the rule post meant to be incomplete? it only contains emperorwhenua’s characters
  24. IC: Niidak (Wilderness near Ko-Pou) Apparently the Turaga did not care much for the crystal Niidak was offering to her. Perhaps it was because of senility brought by old age? Or maybe the elder had even worse manners than she did. So much for good deeds being rewarded. Either way, she did not mind much, as long as she got rid of the seemingly worthless trinket she had found. The Turaga was more concerned about her mentioning the name of the League of Six Kingdoms - or whatever it was called now, as the Six Kingdoms were very far away. The Turaga was a local, apparently, and not a refugee. Perhaps this explained her... more unusual behaviour. Niidak answered her question: "The League of Six Kingdoms was an alliance led by Barraki warlords to oppose the Matoran and Mata-Nui himself... though I never cared much for their motives. Back in the day, when I was still in the 'Ark' as you called it, I did not take sides in the conflict. Unfortunately, I became its victim as I was in the wrong place in the wrong time. That's how I ended up here, on this Karzahni-cursed island. The League still exists, in the ruins of the 'Ark', though I do not know what their goals are now. Nor do I care, really." She then took the filled fuel canister from the Toa and put it inside her satchel. "No, I'll be fine, thank you." Once again, she had gotten something for free, simply by asking for it. The castaways on this island were much nicer than her fellow Vortixx on Xia had been. It was... strange, yet inspiring, in a way. While she thought they were fools for being so trusting, she couldn't help but feel slight admiration for them. They still had hope, and were willing to trust others. Despite everything that had happened in recent months. "Farewell, and good luck on the rest of your journey," she said and bowed before turning around and continuing her own trek to her hidden hoverbike. OOC: @Harvali @Tarn just to be clear, niidak gave kardaka an empty knowledge crystal
  25. IC: Niidak (Wilderness near Ko-Pou) Niidak looked at the telescope in her grasp, which was now as good as new. She was mildly impressed by the restoration. Despite being a Turaga, the stranger was still able to channel her mask’s power well. Best of all, she didn’t ask for payment. ”Thank you, Turaga,” she said as she put the telescope back in her satchel. ”You did a good job.” She saw how tired the Turaga was now, having almost fallen over. Somewhere deep inside herself, a feeling of pity arose. Would she really give nothing in return to the weary elder? ”Such a good job, in fact, that I should give you something in return.” She reached out into her satchel again and took out the empty knowledge crystal. ”I found this in the Relic Fields earlier. I’m not sure what to do with it, but it does look pretty. It may be just a useless trinket, but I don’t have much else to give.” Of course, that wasn’t exactly true, but the other items were too valuable to sacrifice. ”Here, you may have it.” This good deed was half-hearted, wasn’t it? She then turned to the Toa. ”Oh, well, they weren’t tense just because of the infection. They had also seen a League ship fly near. One of them even suspected that I was a League agent!” she said with a chuckle. ”That’s why I didn’t try asking. Anyways, do you have a canister or something, so I can carry the fuel along?” OOC: @Tarn @Harvali
