  1. It's one of the best scifi series ever, though I will admit there were quite a few embarassing moments that even the writers swept under the rug.

    *cough*the Hathor retcon*cough*

Back on topic, setting it roughly around the middle of season 1 is probably the best idea. It's early on, but the base has already settled into it's role of "go to planet A, mess up doohickey B, get caught by civilization C, fix problem with doohickey D."

  2. Stargate: SG-1 is basically a show (based on a movie) about an ancient alien artifact called the Stargate, created by an advanced race of Negligent Precursors, and the struggle between Earth (read: the US Air Force and their Russian counterparts in a few episodes) against an alien menace known as the Goa'uld, a race of parasitic snake... thingies... that burrow into a person's neck and take over their body. They've enslaved the galaxy for thousands of years, but are toppled in roughly 10-15 years, give or take, by one planet. It's pretty much the cornerstone for scifi set in the present day. It spawned two spinoffs (the equally awesome Stargate: Atlantis and the vomit-inducing eyesore that is Stargate: Universe) two movies (Stargate: Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum,) a few comic books, several games (most of which were hyped to the extreme and then promptly cancelled) and a huge fanbase.

So, go. Pick up a copy on Netfuluzon Prime or whatever you use and watch. And watch some more.

Fair warning though, the first season was on Showtime. They were pretty good about keeping it broadcast friendly, but... um... The first episode had an... attempt... at garnering a larger... male audience, if you catch my meaning. It was thankfully only the one time, but if you're like me and don't like that sorta stuff in your scifi, it will drag on... and on... and on...

"Sounds like you sure ticked someone off back home."

IC Eponine [Narsis - The Lucky Guar]

"Let's see..." Eponine began to count. "I incurred the wrath of the Temple of Akatosh when I saved my town from becoming the site of a daedra summoning by killing the clergyman responsible, though the Imperial courts cleared me of all charges... I ticked off the Thieves Guild by putting one of their own away for a long, long time... And let's not forget the spawn of Malacath's feces, the Brotherhood. Good gods, the Brotherhood..."

  4. Thanks. The big problem with building it was getting the rescue can to fit inside and to get the door to shut. I solved problem no.1 by using a 1x2x1 slope instead of a 1x2x1 brick, but then I had the problem of the door not looking airtight. In-universe, the hangars aren't airtight, but are more like storage bays connected to airlocks.

Can anyone tell me where that piece inside of the hangar (Rescue can) comes from? I can't seem to find it.

  5. My propic is one of my fave ships with two of my fave characters in the anime Hetalia, Denmark and Norway.

I'm still weeb trash somebody pls help

Interesting choice, but I would've gone with my favorite SaTW ship, Denmark X Everyone.

  6. Somebody brought up a Stargate RPG and nobody told me!

Sorry, Silvan. Forgot you were the resident Stargate fan.

I actually want to talk about that real quick, because I think it could work. It's a good concept and with the right people (aka people who have seen every episode of SG-1 about three dozen times) behind it, it could work.

Silvan, what do you think about an SG-1 RP set sometime during Season 8?

    ----------------

In the year 2292, the Republic of Legonia christened the first of many Valkyrie-class cruisers. Large, fast and strong, the boxy design of the Valkyrie would soon become the Legonian standard for ship design. Featuring a powerful FTL engine, two hangar bays, a large cargo hold and various defensive items, the Valkyrie-class is widely considered to be the best ship in the Republican fleet.

    ----------------

So, the Valkyrie. This bad boy is roughly 635-650 pieces large (accounting for misclicks resulting in pieces going inside of the ship's skeleton, the Valkyrie was just a little bit of an experiment in greebling, SNOT techniques, better design and, of course, making something incredibly large. The ship's body (not accounting for that large antenna at the front) is roughly 48 modules long and (not accounting for the control tower) about 5-7 modules tall, give or take. The whole thing has only three (exterior) colors; dark red, phosperant white and black, though a little bit of bright red might still be located on the inside. I decided to not bother with covering up the top studs, since it might make the body look a little too disproportionate for my taste. I don't know, that slope really does make a difference.

Wow.. So sayith the man with a cosmonaut for their picture and signature.

Cosmonaut? You do realize that both those astronauts were American, right? Also, you say that like it's a bad thing. Some of the most crucial steps in early space exploration were performed by cosmonauts.

Anyway, it's something of a condition I have when writing science fiction. I really don't like it when science fiction blatantly disregards established science and would rather not take creative liberties for the sake of being cool or dramatic.

But working on a smaller scale it's not as much of an issue. Being set on the moon it would be easier to incorporate actual science without any interference with pacing.

The problem is that not as many people care about hard science, meaning an audience will be harder to find.

But, actually, FTL is a possibility. Enter the Alcubierre drive. It's a theoretical sort of "warp drive" that promises to give us FTL capability in just a few decades, should the science hold.

It's also not hard to imagine a ship equipped with an Alcubierre drive. Either strap on some gravity rings or (more likely) use the natural thrust of the ship to push everything downwards towards the engines, and voila, Earth gravity!

Also, the odds of an Earth-like planet existing somewhere in our universe are extremely high because of the infinite nature of the universe.

  9. IC: Komae [Le-Koro]

The Matoran said nothing for a moment, only fiddled with his mask, the back of his palm covering his eyes.  When he brought his hand back down, there was something approaching pity in his expression.

"You know, there was a time I was a lot like you, Toa.  I used to see adventure everywhere, used to think I was above all the silly old 'duties' I had.  I suppose you could say I was a very stupid Matoran.  I learned my lesson a good fifty years ago.  It really is a shame nobody else did."  He shook his head. "Go dig up some made-up god if you like.  I suppose as long as we've got Toa like the one you seem so determined to follow, one more moron wasting their time won't make a difference."

And then he turned to the other Matoran and smiled.  "Now, Beosach.  Shall we?"

    IC Haraki:

"He who does not learn of their history will be doomed to repeat it. You disregard any opinion other than your own as nonsense and throw it in the garbage. In that way, you're no better than that madman out there. Call me a moron, but there's always a reason for everything, divine or no."

  10. IC Eponine [Narsis - The Lucky Guar]

Eponine wasn't a terribly great liar, but she was known inside Brotherhood circles as a human lie detector.

"Yeah, yeah. I know what you're thinking. But think of it this way; I either sit around waiting for death to take me, or I make something of myself. I vote for making something of myself."

  11. IC: (Mathyn Llethri. The Lucky Guar, Narsis)

Mathyn crossed his arms on his chest. This girl had pretty unequivocally just admitted to having been an assassin. Probably Dark Brotherhood, too, regardless of her apparent disagreements with them now.

"The Morag Tong," he spoke, softly, "isn't prone to putting out advertisements for job vacancies. There are guildhalls throughout all the cities and some smaller towns of Morrowind, but you'll find that recruitment isn't as simple as knocking on the door and asking if they'll accept you. Back in the not-so-recent past, you could ask around in Mournhold - rumour had it that was where the Tong based themselves after the destruction of their central base in Vivec. But then Mournhold got sacked by the Argonians. You would have to talk with a member of the Tong to know where to find them."

IC Eponine [Narsis - The Lucky Guar]

"When you've eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be true."

Eponine took a large gulp of shein. "So, once I've found everywhere the Tong aren't, or better yet, can't be, then I'll know where they are."

Leaning back, Eponine smirked. "I've tracked down one of their members to Narsis. So, I find the guildmember, and assuming he doesn't kill me on sight, I'll convince him to tell me the guildhall's location."

  12. IC Eponine [Narsis - The Lucky Guar]

"Look... I have a very... specific skillset. There's not a whole lot of options for someone like me, and with the Brotherhood pretty much wanting my head on a silver platter, and the Thieves Guild thinking I'm dead because of said Brotherhood bounty... The Morag Tong is the only legitimate assassin's guild in Tamriel, and is probably the only place in all of Creation where I'm welcome."

  13. IC: (Mathyn Llethri. The Lucky Guar, Narsis)

"Not many non-Dunmer would choose this moment, of all possible moments, to move to this country, I should say. Fascinating choice. Is it related to your seemingly not entirely amicable past with the Dark Brotherhood?"

    (Elianne. Castle Kitchens, Firewatch)

Elianne looked at him sideways, mentally reading the Morag Tong's training booklet on useful idiots. "Who are you? I haven't seen you around the castle much. And you look too... uniform-less to be a legionnaire."

IC Eponine [Narsis - The Lucky Guar]

"You could say that." Eponine took another sip of shein. "It's a little complicated. I have a pretty bad past, and I want to make something useful of myself."

Eponine frowned. "Have you ever heard of the Morag Tong?"
