What's the temperature where you are? What do you consider to be your knack on BZPower? What's your niche for your knack on BZP?Isn't alliteration fun?Do you even know what alliteration means?

What's your favorite season? If you had to have an accent other than your current one, what accent would you choose? Are you well-versed in the nomenclature of ionic compounds? Most annoying commercial currently on the air?Truth be told, am I the only one who can pull off the bold Comic Sans thing and still look decent, or are there others?

Punchin' that clock dusk 'till dawn

Um, yeah, convenient way to both include Alan Jackson song lyrics and tell you guys that I'm more busy than ever. Just a few tidbits...

...Working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday this week
    ...Having a month-late party for my birthday in like two weeks. Sorry, you'd not invited D;
    ...Economics course starts tomorrow.

Also, adding another girl to the top of the list (should have mentioned this a couple months ago). She's currently going out with another guy, but the guy's a senior and looks twelve, so I figure that isn't major competition. But anyway, I really like her personality and values, so woot.

See you Tuesday for a Five.

So I get a phone call from USPS this morning telling me a certain Byron Foret never picked up the print from the post office. According to the woman, it arrived 8/22 and sat there five days before they gave up and sent it back to me. But this begs the question--why were they waiting for KIE to pick it up at the post office? Why didn't it just go directly to Todd Webb? GRAH.

Maybe KIE can shed some light on the situation. I won't PM him until later, though--he's going though so much with the evacuation.

Anyway, my new hours for the month of September are 4-8:30 Tuesday-Thursday. It's better than having to go in at 10 or 12 like I was before, which meant squeezing in my workout before then, but now I go hungry until I get home--and any school work I don't manage to get done before work I have to do after, which means I'm going to bed way later than my body would like. So as you can imagine, I'm exhausted.

    >.>

EDIT: It seems to me that they attempted to deliver it the 22nd, then actually brought it back to the post office instead of leaving it like any sane mail carrier would, then tried again yesterday (bear in mind, the flat rate envelope says urgent overnight delivery on it), then gave up because Todd/Byron didn't come in to pick it up (which they wouldn't anyway, since it was past the MoC deadline). Didn't come in to pick it up? Their job is to deliver things. What has this world come to? >.<

So it isn't KIE's fault or anyone else's at Brickfair--it was USPS. Never. Again.

    I'm so tired. Yesterday:

Wake up. Eat a bowl of cereal. Shower. Drive to church (30 miles away). Be at church. Wait though parent meeting about youth group. Go out to breakfast, return to church. Rehearse for church picnic gig. Play at church picnic gig. Wait at church. Rehearse for youth worship band. Play for said band. Wait. Come home.

    Legs. Aaaaaached. Last night.

I can't figure out whether or not this one girl I really like and actually have a pretty good shot with is interested in/seeing this other guy.

Why doesn't this put a damper on my mood? Well, this guy isn't really, in my estimation, competition, shall we say. You know, like, he looks 12 even though he's not and... yeah. That kinda guy.

Also, I'm conducting an unscientific blog poll. After all these years, do I dare change my posting font to this? See, I've made a few posts in the past couple of minutes in the new style... I need you guys to honestly evaluate how you think it looks. Which do you like better?

    Not.

Man, I love the weather today. It's like Fall. ^.^

    Tuesday five!
When does/did school start? Did you go on vacation this year? What's the temperature outside? Which term do you prefer--Fall or Autumn? Brown, yellow, or orange?

No, but on a more serious note, I'll miss you, Exo's blog. You were my blog's best friend. Now we can't set up play dates for our blogs! Woe is me. They grow up so quickly.... *sobs*

Now who do I compete with?
  10. Dokuma
...because I just got back less than an hour ago.

What does this mean? Why, time to review my new purchases, that's what!

    Takanuva

In a perfect world, fan reviews would completely skip over description of the packaging of a set. But alas, a perfect world this not.

Takanuva's box is pretty standard... other than its sheer size. In my mind's eye, I'm seeing pictures of Steve Irwin wrestling this box deep in the swamps of Australia, telling his cameraman that it's a "big'un, mate."

The construction process was... wow, it was incredible. It was like 2001 Rahi + realistic articulation. T'was truly a most interesting and intricate build... granted, there's virtually nothing there function-wise in that it feels like many of the pieces were simply there for decoration. But when Lego releases a set this intricate in the year 2008, I won't complain.

Or will I? Takanuva's most prominent flaws are (1) his change in visible personality and (2) his size. While the set is very nicely designed, his drastic change in personality leaves no remnant of his 2001-2003 persona. The size is a setback, though not completely inhibiting to the experience... the only thing that gets me about it is that he is now taller than almost every Makuta set released. Ah well.

Takanuva has a massive amount of new & useful parts great for any MoCist. Despite some flaws (which are more the fault of the character than the set design), he's a PHENOMENAL buy. 8D
Kopaka (better known as Nuju Phantoka)

I purchased Kopaka believing him to be the better of the Toa Phantoka... in hindsight, perhaps Pohatu would have been better, but overall Kopaka is probably one of the better sets of this year.

Most prominent flaw here is the lack of resemblance to his 2002 form. That said, however, he's probably closer to resembling his old self than any of the others. Even a simple reversal of the eyepiece orientation, to which I don't think even Bones would be opposed, would increase his resemblance score twofold.

You all know my opinion of the modern Piraka torso fad, which I have forced myself to ignore, but Kopaka could have pulled it off better. If his upper arms had been like Nuju Metru's upper legs, the problem of the Inika armor bumping into the jet wings would be solved. And the arm length... annoying. Sorry, Bones.

And of course there's the more general stuff like the quality of the plastic, jet wings, and the lack of a sword & shield (or any melee weapon). These are easily ignored as long as I play up the idea that canonically, Kopaka's really just like he is in ToM's Brickfair piece.

The set has its shortcomings, but overall, not bad. Would've been better at his normal $9.99 price, though. >.>
    Antroz

Pulls off the post 2006-canister set thing much better than Kopaka, in my opinion. His being Toa-sized is much less a bother than I thought it would be, since he's only a little taller than the 2003 Makuta set (or, alternatively, I can slap a Mask of Shadow on Maxilos and regain Teridax's height superiority). And (woot!) his torso makes him taller than Kopaka.

Ignoring things such as indentical limbs and lack of a gear function, Antroz's most protruding flaw is his odd wing orientation. At the very least, it allows him to assume that classic Chiropterian wings-wrapping-torso pose. But I cannot ignore the fact that wings on a humanoid figure should attach to the back, not the shoulders.

The Tridax function is interesting. Definitely beats your average projectile. As has been said in prior reviews, whether or not the pod actually beaks open is up to fate. On the bright side, when it breaks, it really does explode. If you have a cyan or teal carpet, you ain't gonna find those little angry-faced Kraata mutants in under a minute or two.

Overall, a decent buy. Not perfect, but I like 'im.
    Tanma & Solek

Part of me wonders how high the price would be if Lego didn't sink all that money into the plastic on the box. Price is Tanma's major setback--size is his other. And, of course, the same is true of Solek.

We'll start with the negatives. Their sizes are approximate to that of a Toa Mata... maybe the slightest bit shorter. Rather than Greg claiming that the Karda Nuian energies caused this, I would appreciate a more deus ex machina explanation such as that we've been given for years about Toa--that is, in the storyline, they're all the same height. And on top of all that, Lewa Nuva's mini-me has his old 2002 weapons? *sighs*

I will say this--I quite like the name Tanma. Solek, a tad obvious in our Romance language origins, but not incredibly bad. Solek would make a nice female Matoran of Light, in my opinion.

In spite of this, they're okay dudes. With roughly the complexity of a McToran, they're fun to pose and nice to keep sitting out in case of boredom.
And if you're wondering why I'm so overall positive about 2008 sets, it's because I intentionally purchase only those sets that I anticipate (correctly) that I will enjoy. Crazy, huh?

Well, despite not being able to find our four-year-old Disney Parkhoppers to use and only getting two days at Sea World and one at Busch Gardens out of our week-long passes to both places, the vacation was a blast. While now we (and by we I mean my mom especially) are now definitely starting to think we should do Disney next year, the whole concept of a play-it-by-ear, hang-out-ish vacation worked well. We pretty much spent most of today at Downtown Disney, where I picked up Antroz and Solek, then saw Hancock at the theatre therein, then drove to Sea World to see if they had any good night shows, but left when we discovered they didn't (not to mention the torrential rain). But it was still fun. Leavin' tomorrow morning, and unlike on the way down, we're gonna go non-stop... meaning that we'll probably get back home around 2:00 AM or something.

I'm not sure if that last part is deserving of a D= smiley or a =D.

    Ah well.

Hancock was pure and complete win, though the language pushed it at times (though it died down in the second half). Will Smith is great in any primary protagonist role, in my opinion.

At long last, I was finally able to get my Pohatu Nuva piece printed. It's a 5" x 7" glossy print I got from a photo kiosk at a drug store (they didn't have matte in the right size), and my pen gave out on me while I was signing it, so it's not INCREDIBLE looking, but it will do. And I got a frame for it. Am overnighting it from Florida to Maryland which, for those of you non-Americans, is like... far. But it's done, and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Yeah, this is just another real-life oriented entry with no humor or nonsense. Srry guyz =(

Well, I'm here in Orlando, and so is Fay. So it's... stormy. >.>

But I'm still in a good mood. New college course started yesterday, and so far it's awesome (Theology 104). Got Takanuva, Tanma, and Kopaka Phantoka from the Lego store in Downtown Disney last night, and so far, they're a blast. Takanuva, while personality-wise in no way resembles his former self, is a massive solidly-built Technic-rich marvel. Tanma, in spite of his lack of complexity and abnormal stature, is fun to have around and (shock!) mostly proportionate. Kopaka isn't the greatest set, but he's by far one of the best 2008 Nuva. The length of the arms irks me, as well as the design of the wings and the lack of a true weapon (or, ideally, a sword & shield). He's decent, though, as long as I consider him to be some random Ko-Toa and not Kopaka.

And you'll never guess who we saw at Sea World yesterday--Billy Mays. No joke. I took two videos of him--will upload them eventually (they're huge files, and with the slow internet connection here at the hotel, I may have to wait until I get home to upload them). What's funny was that he was among the people in the crowd watching these three comedian-ish guys doing some stupid routine that wasn't even remotely funny. And then he left. Irony, anyone? EVEN BILLY MAYS FINDS THESE COMEDIANS ANNOYING. Anyway.

Drumroll, please... and the winners are...

"How To Make A Comic Panel" by Tahuri "Hahli's Sixth Sense" by Nikira "The Great War of Theodosia" by Lehatu Michael Phelps Now, let's consider prizes. I would be able to mail out physical prizes, but I imagine many of you aren't comfortable with that, so I won't. All three winners will thus be receiving virtual prizes. Feel free to throw ideas at me in this entry as to what would be nice (potential ideas: custom art, custom avatars & banners, ghostwriting a blog entry of mine, etc.). The other finalists will be receiving something digital as well. Most of these decisions will be made by me after my vacation.
Phelps will be receiving his gold medal via email.

    Congratulations!

Welcome, viewers! If you're reading this, you're either severely off-track after meaning to click on Omi's blog, or you're anxious to get your vote in for the Comic Contest.

Unfortunately, due to the quantity of entries, I'm forced to split Hand drawn and Computer assisted and merge CA with Other. The categories are now Hand-drawn, Computer-Assisted, and Sprite.

Here's the scoop on the goings on with the new things happening as I attempt to stuff as many pointless modifiers in this sentence as physically possible.

The good news: I'm leaving for Florida on Friday. Will be there for a week.

The bad news: My to-do list for things before I leave is a mile long, and on top of that, I'm working. And I have a want-to-do list. So my activity online this week will be limited to the following:
Posting my Generic Quest comic. It's about 2/3rds done. Posting the new round of voting for the contest. Not sure how many rounds of voting I'll need. Should be up tomorrow. So in conclusion, I'll remind you all to keep voting in the below entry (and don't worry about editing your post).
Am I forgetting something? Maybe a stretch of an attempt to poke fun at Michael Phelps for no reason other than his massive popularity?

    Nah.
