  1. With everyone nicely distracted by the awkwardness and boredom, Tufi struck from the edge of the forest."Greetings, everyone. Presumably everyone," Tufi added after a half-hearted headcount, "Welcome to your first immunity challenge.""I'll start you off with something simple. Each tribe needs to build a fire. That's it. First tribe to build a fire wins immunity for the week." She held up a wooden carving of Hapori Tohu. "The loser tribe has to send somebody home, and they will be known as the first loser. The loser of losers.""The way you're going to build these fires is through the magic of teamwork. Each member of your tribe needs to post, working on the fire, until all seven members have posted. For clarity's sake, identify your tribe at the beginning of your post. The first tribe to accomplish this wins. That's all there is to it. Now go!"

  2. Tracking down the tribe hadn't been easy. They'd left an obvious trail, but it wandered too much for Tufi's liking. She repositioned the lumpy bag slung across her shoulders and walked into the modest camp of..."Clikit Supertramps," she announced. "Congratulations, you suck less than the I'd Settle For Thats. You guys get fun and exciting prizes." Tufi opened the bag and dumped its contents in front of her. A spool of unbearably twee crafting twine, a hair dryer, the shell of an original iMac (lime), several vanity-published poetry books, two dozen packs of shoe shine, a hilariously misprinted novelty picture frame, and thirty Crazy Taxi discs tumbled out. These must have been the other tribe's luxury items."Where's our stuff?" came a voice at the back of the group."Evicteesayswhat," Tufi replied. Thinking about it a bit, she threw the burlap sack onto the prize pile."What?""Okay, so I took a look at your stuff, and I'm not sure what game you were hoping to play, but I was hoping for a game that wasn't horribly broken. This isn't later-years Survivor with all the pampering. This is classic hardcore mode." Tufi sighed. "The stuff is useful, really. You just have to actually work at it now."She went back into the jungle, and was gone within seconds.

Here's where you can talk about all the crazy antics taking place in Staff Survivor II. Great feats of wilderness survival? Wacky hijinks? You've got it. A few basic rules:Don't interfere with the game itself. If there's a challenge, don't help the players with it. Don't post answers, suggestions, or things like that. All they've got to use are 1) themselves and 2) each other.Don't post in the game topic if you're not a participant. It might look like a lot of fun, but this is a closed RPG, I'm afraid. Besides, you get to vote people off. That's half the fun right there.Don't get personal. This isn't the time or place to air your grudge against a particular staff member. It's a general BZP rule, but it bears repeating.Simple enough, right? Have at it!

A boat zoomed over the water, the sun beating down directly overhead. The boat was making good time on its way to the only land in sight, the island Voya Nui.Canon is nothing when pitted against Fun.It was big enough for a couple dozen people to live on it comfortably, but that wouldn't be happening. Fourteen passengers would be kicked off at or near Voya Nui, left to fend for themselves for the next few months. All in the name of Fun, of course. Mostly other people's Fun.At the bow of the ship was a woman in an orange Huna, BZP Forum Administrator Tufi Piyufi. She'd decided that taking a nice boat trip with an assortment of current and former staff members would be a great way to celebrate BZP's anniversary. Leaving them on Voya Nui and toying with them would make it perfect."Um... Excuse me?" Tufi's own dear puffin-Vahki, Ophelia, approached the bow. "The captain says we'll be at the dropoff point in ten minutes."Tufi smirked. "Come stand and look really dramatic with me."So Ophelia did, and the time just vanished. It was like they'd gotten on the boat at BZ-Koro one moment, and were slowing to a stop near the Voya Nui beach the very next instant. It was a common phenomenon with helicopters and jetskis, but much rarer with large boats. They were right in the middle of the crescent, chosen for its poetic qualities and its only-approachable-coast qualities alike."Could you rouse our contestants, please?" Tufi asked. Ophelia nodded and went below deck. A minute later, people started fleeing the ship for the safety of the ocean with only the clothes on their back and the masks on their faces. Fourteen frightened people swam for shore while Ophelia set up a nice dinghy for her and Tufi to follow them. The contestants made it to the rocky beach, huddling together to warm up faster. Soon after, the dinghy arrived, and Tufi got off to address the huddled masses. She spread her arms."Welcome to Staff Survivor," she said like it was the answer to everything that was going on, because it was. "Over the next three months, you'll be competing against each other in near-constant challenges until one of you is left to claim the ultimate prize. The members will decide who stays and who goes each week. And you'll be doing it all while fending for yourselves in the great wilderness of Voya Nui. It's exactly what you signed up for!"But first we need to get you guys split into tribes and sent on your merry ways. Hahli Husky, Makaru, Arpy, Sumiki, Bfahome, Sisen, and Eeko, you're all one tribe and you'll be heading that way-" Tufi pointed to her left, which was probably east, "-to set up camp. Janus, Kakaru, Emzee, DeeVee, Spink, xccj, and Ta-metru_defender, you're the other tribe and you'll be going that way to make camp." Tufi pointed right, or west, or what will now be assumed to be west for the purposes of this game. "Your first challenge is to come up with tribe names. Whoever can come up with the least sucky name by Tuesday afternoon wins their luxury items back."Tufi got back onto the dingy. "Now get out of here!"

Anyone have a suggestion for the eye color of my phoenix? It's mostly red, orange, and yellow, and I don't know what eye color would go best with that. Also, would using a non-Lego rubberband to stabilize something count as cheating?

You're not allowed to use non-Lego items in your entry, so you would be disqualified.

What if I know the rubberband is from Lego, but it doesn't have the logo?

If it's a rubber band from a Lego set, that would be okay.

You can use, say, fishing line to suspend your MOC in "flight," right?

    No, you can't.
  9.

Urgh, I just finished taking the pictures of my entry but Brickshelf doesn't seem to be working right now! I'm too impatient for this. :P

The punishment for cheating seems really unnecessarily harsh. Wouldn't disqualification from the one contest be sufficient? They don't win, so it doesn't matter after that. Also, that section of the post seems really overemphasized in relation to everything else. It makes it appear as if you guys care more about punishing people than the actual contest.

It seems pretty fair, honestly. Cheating is bad and if you're not a cheater you have nothing to worry about anyway.

They cheated because they wanted to win the contest. They get caught, they don't win the contest. Problem solved.

But why does it matter what the punishment is? As long as you don't cheat, it doesn't apply to you at all. Also, a harsher punishment will more likely discourage people from cheating. If they just get disqualified from one contest, they might cheat again in the next one, hoping they won't get caught. And if they do, they can just try again next time. I do agree though that it is somewhat harsh getting banned from the entire site.

This is kinda late but still. What if someone isn't cheating, but is suspected to? The rules say that anyone who is caught or suspected of cheating will be banned. Anyway, I might enter, but I somewhat hope I don't get into the finals. Don't know if I would be able to mail it, much less go there myself. Can I make a phoenix?

We investigate before taking action on potential cheaters.A phoenix would be alright, yes.
  10. Couple questions:

[*]Is there any specific reason why the technic/system ratio changed from last contest?[*]Does this count as two pieces or one?[*]Does this count as a technic or system piece?

Details may change from contest to contest. That would count as one piece. That would be a System piece.

Maybe I'll enter. A couple questions though. Can I use rubber bands? Is there a lower piece limit - could I, say, enter a MOC with only 11 pieces? =)

As long as they are rubber bands produced by Lego, yes. There is no piece limit in either direction.

  12. Would a clockwork themed bird be okay, as long as it clearly looks like a bird?

Yes, but it needs to very much be a bird.

Would an Archaeopteryx be ok? Also, can we do real-life birds that have non-bird features, like the Hoatzin chick?

    Both of those are fine.

Would something like the Robot Chicken be acceptable? robotchicken-showcard.jpg

That's not quite as bird-like as we'd like, sorry. No.

Fun contest. It's a shame it didn't happen last year, cause I made a really awesome Kahu, but it's already been posted here, so I guess I have to make something, wait that's the point of these contests no way!? Quick question, mostly for clarification purposes. Are flightless birds okay? I'm thinking Emus, Penguins, Kiwis, ext. And if so, can said flightless bird include a secondary form of flight in the MOC, like a jet pack? (Okay, that question's probably a joke.) :P Thanks again for hosting! Can't wait to see what everybody makes for this! :music:

Flightless birds are okay, things like jetpacks aren't.
  13. I've got a few questions. First, is it alright if the entry model has a lizard-like tail/elongated tail instead of a feathery one? Of course, it would still look like a bird, with the beak and long ankles and shins and feathery wings. Second, can it have jet engines instead of wings or a combination of jet engines and wings? Third, is there a way to send in extra money for shipping to get it back in two-day shipping? There's another Lego convention the next weekend that I'm the coordinator for (Bricks by the Bay), and I want to bring as much stuff as I can. Thanks. :)

Neither lizard tails nor jet engines are permitted. Please keep this fairly bird-like.

1st question: I don't know the specific answer to that, but as long as it resembles a bird and has most of the aspects of one, then I would say that it's okay. I mean, Laserbeak did in Transformers 3, and he was a robot vulture. 2nd: I would think that if you're going to use jets, that you should use them in conjunction with wings. 3rd: Probably, you'd have to PM the BIONICLE coordinator about it. Check out B6's blog for further info for BrickFair. Hope that I helped!

Please don't answer questions if you're not contest staff. Misinformation gets spread very easily this way.
