Star Wars Constraction Livestream
VBBN replied to Hapori Tohu's topic in BZPower.com News Discussion
Andrew your comment about Phasma possibly being chrome due to Disney/Star Wars being picky likely wouldn't happen as there is a version already that is not in chrome- the new elite series of Star Wars action figures has Phasma in a regular flat silver. That any previous metallic characters (C3P0) appeared as a minifig in non-chrome form, so if we get a Phasma I would highly bet it'll be in flat silver unfortunately. -
LEGO Lifts Lid on 10249 Winter Toy Shop
VBBN replied to Hapori Tohu's topic in BZPower.com News Discussion
We already have a perfectly good reason not to go buy the older set. The reason is that it's discontinued, and the aftermarket prices are upwards of $140. Granted, they might go down now, since demand will shrink due to the new version being available as an alternative. But if the redesign hadn't come out then the aftermarket prices would have just continued to climb. The really weird thing is that I see fans asking all the time why LEGO can't re-release fan favorite sets like Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, or the Ultimate Collector's Series Millennium Falcon. Even in the Bionicle fan community I see people asking why LEGO can't just re-release the original Toa Mata from 2001. And yet now when LEGO re-releases an extremely popular set, they get blasted on every fansite I've visited for being lazy and unoriginal. Hmm. No the difference is the Winter Village sets are a nice way to keep adding to a growing Winter Town each year- people were expecting a new Winter Village set to add to their collection and instead have a slight rehash, which many serous collectors of winter themed sets already have. That would be the difference, and why there is an outcry over this. -
Panthar was by a far my favorite.

As someone who owns 20+ TeeFury shirts I can vouch for their quality too. Nice shirt but I have way too many in black/dark blue already

Those who follow my Flickr have seen me posting these the last few days, I've been messing around with some combo models lately and ended up creating three creatures as follows; Boulder Mite: Pohatu+ Protector of Stone Tikki Bird: Lewa+ Protector of Jungle Uutah Crab: Onua + Protector of Earth As of this moment I haven't been happy with the results of the other three respective elements. Boulder Mite Tikki Bird Uutah Crab More photos can be found here, The Boulder Mite's tail can swing side to side via gears, and the Tikki Bird's wings move like a traditional Toa's arms (Creating a "banking" maneuver)

Star Wars Episode VII Constraction Figure Revealed
VBBN replied to Hapori Tohu's topic in BZPower.com News Discussion
September 4th? EW (The original source) listed it as January 1st, I think /Film misquoted them on that. -
Lost the preliminary poll, but 39 votes is still a pretty good turnout! I'll give my vote to the Nivawk, even though you did beat me out It's been one of my favorite entries since the start, a stunning design and a great re-imagining

BBC Contest #69 Preliminary Poll Rooster

#2, has been a favorite from the start. Love the concept of the removable kraata and it just looks awesome overall. -
BBC Contest #69 Preliminary Poll Dog
VBBN replied to Tufi Piyufi's topic in Official BBC Contest #81 Voting
Oh man, stuck right out of the gate with Gamma's awesome Nivawk Self voted as well of course, but if your Nivawk makes it past this round (which i'm guessing it will) I'll be rooting for you the rest of the way! EDIT: Why are the results of this one hidden whereas I can see the results of other polls? -
BBC Contest #69: Everything Old is New Again!
VBBN replied to Tufi Piyufi's topic in Bionicle-Based Creations
Good luck to everyone, it has been awesome to see the entries that people have come up with and I look forward to voting in the polls! -
I like that you kept a more complicated build yet still used some large shells to give him the smoother aesthetic of the G2 sets. Color scheme aside, the main criticism I would have here is the hands/fingers, they just seem sort of static and don't really fit in with the style of the rest of the character. I think in this case, even his original hands might look better here (and due to his increased size they wouldn't look as oversized as they did on the original Axonn)
-
Thanks once again everyone! I'm glad someone liked the use of the Chima shell- It's styling definitely makes it hard to use in most cases, but I really liked the overall "beefier" shape of it and I think the style ended up working quite well.

This might actually be one of my favorite entries in the contest. I love how you've taken a character who was a smaller figure on a "vehicle" and a massive-sized character, and put them oth in perfect scale to one another. Both are perfectly reasonable as real-set concepts, and would fit perfectly in the G2 style. Well done!

Going with Scorpio as the worst. Not because of "anatomical incorrectness" or whatever, there is just literally nothing about him that I find enjoyable. It was a toss-up between Grinder/Ekimu and Warrior. I'm a big fan of sets that come with two characters, and of course the MoCr as well as what looks to be two decently built figures is a plus, but there is something that I oddly love about Warrior.

BBC #69: Vezon - Master of Anarchy
VBBN replied to VakamaMetruNui's topic in Bionicle-Based Creations
Ah a fellow Vezon contender I like how the larger silver spikes look on his feet. I only had the viking horns so I couldn't try out using the larger ones, nice to see it in use here. -
Amazon still sells a bunch of older sets for very highly inflated prices. It's being sold from online retailers of course, but still they are sealed sets. Toa can run $60+, Boxed sets can go $180+, and some of the real large sets are upwards of $400+. What a bargain.

Thanks again everyone! Elsewhere people have wanted to see how the head was built, so here is a glimpse at that. I will take a pic or two of his skeleton tomorrow, sure. Nothing really complicated to it, his head is mounted to a Glatorian neck and the body is the extra long CCBS torso. And thanks!

BBC Contest #69: Everything Old is New Again!
VBBN replied to Tufi Piyufi's topic in Bionicle-Based Creations
Submitted my entry, Vezon: The Monster earlier today. Really interesting entries so far, I love seeing how everyone else is revamping older sets. -
Thanks everyone! Yeah, the hood was the only thing that really wasn't on the original '06 Vezon that I wanted to try out. I think it worked better in theory... Due to the very elongated shape of the Piraka/Ignika fusion mask, it doesn't sit very well on his head. Here is a shot of Vezon without the hood (apologies for the change in photo quality, just snapped that one real quick with my phone) for those who want to see what it looks like. As for the spikes, they are sort of there just to be spikes, but to also pay homage to the other Piraka's spines. So as for if they are spikes, that would be a yes and no answer.
-
Vezon is by a far my favorite character from G1, so revamping him for BBC 69 was obvious. I decided against doing Fenrakk, I don't have many dark red CCBS parts and didn't really have any ideas for him. Anyway, The full photo set can be found in the gallery.

BBC Contest #69: Everything Old is New Again!
VBBN replied to Tufi Piyufi's topic in Bionicle-Based Creations
Just to verify- We can only build one character, correct? What I mean is, in the case of a set like Maxilos/Spinax, Baranus, or Vezon/Kardas, you couldn't build both the "character" and the "steed", correct? Just one or the other? -

I absolutely love this. I will enter, definitely won't win, but I cannot wait to see the entries that pop up from this. -
3D-Printable Kanohi (Olisi, Elemental Energy, more)
VBBN replied to jimmybob83's topic in General Art
Really awesome stuff here. I adore that Ignika and Olisi, will certainly be buying those soon. I'd love to see more of the concept Toa masks from 2015 be made into designs. Being one of those who really don't like Lewa's new Miru, I'd be all over a design based off one of the concepts. -
I have to agree with the wide shoulders criticism. It's cool that you chose to actually use Onua's claws in the same manner as the original, though being such large pieces they sort of leave you with wide shoulders to compensate (hence why I opted for the feet instead) Wairuha looks better proportionally, and I do like the updated versions of his older weapons.

It's a shame these "bootlegs" were so difficult to find, they actually were one of the cooler sets of Bionicle wannabes. They were obviously inspired by Bionicle sets, but didn't really ripoff any parts at all. Interesting to see them used (and repainted) here. The Toa themselves aren't anything earth shattering building wise of course but I like your choices of weapons. Also, having done extensive paintwork in the past, I have to commend you on matching the silver and gold colors, really good paint matching there. (Metallic can be the worst). The only character I'm not too keen on is Kualus. I'm not sure if it's the breastplate or the mask, but something feels off. (If I ever happen to find those other two you're looking for for sale by some miracle I'll point you in the right direction, would love to see the more ideal team!)
