    The Master

Well, then go check out the new trailer! In brief, it's about a guy with PTSD who ends up as an ardent follower and even leader of a cult. The names of those involved are just as important, though. I mean, check out that cast and director!

    Answer Entry!

    I approve of this thread.
  3. I think that, even back in 2010, it needed to end relatively soon, but an extra year or even half-year would have helped the inevitable ending feel less rushed and more natural. So, although I voted "Yes," BIONICLE staying around for anything more than two years would have been excessive.~ BioGio
  4. I went through the entire first chapter and made a bunch of comments on grammar, style, and so on. (There are really a lot of comments at first, typically pointing out some general mistakes you make.) At the end, I placed some general comments on plot, characters, grammar, and style. The document is here. If you have any difficulty reaching it, please let me know so I can post it some other way. All in all, it was very easy to get wrapped up in reading this, even while searching for grammar errors. You write pretty well in general, so I had to comb through to find major style issues. My major recommendation is just that you really polish this up. Proofread very thoroughly and add in description when it's necessary.
  5. ... Shiny. Seriously, that's really impressive. I'll echo everyone else and congratulate you on a job very well done, Bfahome.Yes, FF Ice Master, that spinny is for 11 years (but not 11+, since there are no members who have been here for any longer that 11 years). As for future HF spinnies, that's most likely (assuming the line continues), but the staff don't plan that far in advance when it comes to 35 by 32 rotating images.**Wait, does that mean that the spinnies aren't a huge deal? Nah, this topic sure proves they're extremely important.~ BioGio

    We are Metru

If you don't want to get hit by the word filter, why not just replace the offending words with "darn" or "dang"? Anyway, I'm going to write up a big old review of the first chapter, so you can probably, ideally expect that by tomorrow afternoon.
  7. That's... not a bad thing. I mean, I see where you're coming from. A lot of modern works (especially film) contain substantial romantic sub-plots, so you're used to seeing that; however, a lot of authors in the past wrote without much romance. If the point of the work doesn't involve love, there's no point to start matching up characters. With fantasy, it's probably better not to involve romance, since it's likely to come across as too escapist. It's when you ignore a natural possibility in the narrative (including romance) that you start to have a problem.~ BioGio
  8. @Summer Don't Know: Definitely NOT GD, since it is for discussion of BZPower itself.
  9. Well, plenty of books experiment with formatting. I could name a few books that use a script style to introduce dialogue, but the difference is that they all use this for a specific reason. Paddy Clark Ha Ha Ha was out of chronological order and read like a ten-year-old's speech, but that was for the purpose of evoking an emotional response. Experimental novels are generally not the best place to get an idea of proper formatting because, for any weird format or style you can think of, a book somewhere has used it. For example, House of Leaves uses footnotes, color, empty space, backwards text, and a lot of other formatting oddities, but that doesn't actually mean that its formatting is one to be emulated without a goal in mind. (Most authors of fiction would actually really recommend against using footnotes unless they are both common and purposeful.) In other words, the choice to use a new or unusual format should be a very deliberate one, since it will inevitably call attention to itself. And if there isn't a clear point to this style, it will only serve to alienate the reader. However, setting dialogue off from other text is quite effective for an author or editor (since it notes, "This is where the style should change and become conversational."), so it makes sense to keep it for yourself. But it doesn't have a purpose beyond that, so you should err on the side of convention.

    Gravity Falls

Have we already forgotten about Phineas and Ferb, LL? For shame, man.

    Gravity Falls

Yeah, I thought that I saw something about GF a while ago. But the point is really that it's taking a long time to become a Thing that People Recognize and/or Hate.
  12. Just glanced through, and I wanted to know about your formatting. Why do you have hyphens prior to each line of dialogue? That's basically never done in prose, so you should definitely remove it (assuming that the hyphens aren't just to mark dialogue for your own sake as the author).
  13. Hapony Tohu! Come on, it writes itself! [/seriousbusiness]Anyway, I've heard that the animation budget for season three was higher than for previous seasons. Can anyone confirm/deny or provide more details?~ BioGio

    Gravity Falls

Why aren't you watching this yet, BZPower? I mean, I know that we're generally a bit behind the curve (see: any use of memes in the history of BZP, how late it took for MLP and Homestuck to get huge). Still, we should at least try to catch up. (yes I'm aware that the gif is terrible)
  15. And then John was a zombie. I AM THE DEMONS. IT'S ME. OH GOD THE HUMANITY!1!!
  16. This thread is still alive?@Gatanui: Yes, we can and should have each spinny top the previous one. It's simple. For 10 years, the spinny symbolized BZPower. For 11 years, you have something that represents all of BIONICLE (the source of BZP). For 12, you represent all of LEGO (but not HF). For 13, the entire Western world (the source of LEGO, which is the source of BIONICLE). Then, the planet Earth. Fifteen years deserves something based on the solar system. Just continue expanding the scope of the spinny's symbolism--"zooming out," if you will. It's really the only rational thing to do.*@Toa Kayn: The issue is that, eventually, everyone who is currently a member--including inactive members--would then have that same decapitated Hapori Tohu. Since even members who leave (or, say, stop in once or twice a year) would have, it doesn't necessarily indicate dedication. The point of the spinnies is to allow one to see how long a member has been around, and if everyone has the same marker, it doesn't do a good job at that.~ BioGio* In case it isn't painfully obvious, this was all sarcastic.
  17. You are aware that no one has been taking this seriously, right? (Also you can't fail the Voigt-Kampff on the Internet because it requires the machine of the same name. )
  18. 1. Thank him, although I already have a wallet. 2. Encourage him to pursue his hobby and learn more about entomology. (BTW, do you mean that he's my son?) 3. You're supposed to hold still until it gets bored and leaves, right? Better than risking agitating it and getting stung more. 4. I'm a robot. (But I thought that test involved just finding Tony and asking whether we should help...) 5. Loving, compassionate, intelligent, helpful. Others. 9. Why should I care about other people (years ago) eating meat (that may even be fake)? I don't hate my friend's family for eating meat from a live goat in China, and that's more immediate than a movie.
  19. The change in shape from Toa to Turaga is usually just a result of the mask becoming Noble from Great. Matoran to Toa mask shape change has been a topic of a lot of discussion, since there are only different shapes for Matoran masks in the movies (so the question just becomes "Are movie images more canon than sets/comics?").

  21. I thought that it was "officially" a product of using chi and changing it into fire. Since, you know, air and heat alone won't allow for combustion. (Then again, Bryke are art majors, so I doubt they talk all too much about the mechanics of combustion.)

    News

If one can't see it without an account, you may want to supply a screenshot or something. (Not that a staff member can't take a screenshot for the news report, but if someone gets an "unavailable" page or something, they may think the report's bogus. You know, just in case.)
  23. >implying one needs a reason to carry three swordsSpeaking of the original series, what does everybody think about The Promise? I haven't heard much about it other than a little bit regarding the quality of the art.~ BioGio
