Pretty sure you'd run into conservation of energy and action problems if you took our current approach. Like there are work around, but I suspect any work around you had would just lead to another violation later on. I could go through a specific example at some point, but I'm fairly confident the ability to generate elements etc... and the transformations of elemental energies into actual effects wouldn't fit any current model we have. :P

well, i think the main thing shouldn't be to invent new physics, but rather to, i dunno. stop breaking the law of conservation of matter? just a suggestion. (elemental powers are something non-bionicle things have used without claiming their physics were "different", so that doesn't really stand as an excuse for this kinda stuff. :0)

A way I like to think of it is if it were possible with the physics of our world, why can't we do it? :P

see, that's where the "it's fiction" comes in, before you even say the word "physics".

Bionicle is fiction, it doesn't need to explain its stuff, but it felt the need to anyway, for some odd reason. :0

I agree fictional world with fictional physics. I don't ever remember in the primary story or medium when it was explained? Most of the "theory" we have behind how things work has come from online and not really had a large part in the story?

  3. I think this kind of approach to the rules is a good idea with the size of the community at the moment. It can encourage a bit more discussion in terms of topics lasting a bit longer and evolving as well as members feeling better about opening topics. Typically in the past I feel topics were closed once there original purpose had been served to keep the forums neat and orderly and easy to navigate and find discussion you're interested in, but since the forums aren't as busy as they once were this isn't really a huge issue so I feel in general a change in this regard would be good. :)

(Not really saying much here except it was something I was thinking a couple of weeks ago so I'm glad the staff are thinking the same things I have been. :P )

well, the short answer is "a load of artakha bull" because it seems like whenever Mr. Greg described or explained porotodermis, he made it up as he went along.

Given how much trouble we had/have understanding our universe, it's kind of understandable Greg didn't/doesn't have a complete theory of how the physics of Bionicle work. :P

So basically, Bionicle exists in a universe with different physical properties than our own? That kind of throws everything off, in my opinion.

well, according to Greg, yes. granted, that's regarded as one of his worst canon decisions ever, but it's there.

On this point, the physics -has- to be different, there'd be far too many things happening in the Bionicle universe that aren't possible with out physics. As far as I'm aware he tended to take the fairly reasonable stance of "the physics is the same except where it can't be". That is it's only different where it needs to be to allow him to do what he needs to in the story.

um. what, may i ask, required the physics of the world to be notably different from our own?

(outside the proto-matter-garble, that is. though i don't think that really counts as a physics based problem? :0)

  5. Toa Okoto or Toa Masters are the most logical and immediate and thus I believe simplest answers to this question. A lot of other options would either be unambiguous, confusing or not add clarity to their classification - the whole point of having a name. :P This could change in future though depending on any possible future Toa/Masters. But for now I think either of those terms suffice. Toa Okoto is nicer personally since it fits with other naming conventions nicely. :)

  7. I voted first option as that's the largest audience and the one that the majority of the work is aimed at. That being said that's not to say the older fanbase has no stake in the franchise and that shows in how Lego has gone about including us in the unveiling of the new line. It's obviously not a black and white "who can claim it", it's shared, but definitely weighted towards the primary targets, with some considerations to the secondary targets.

  8. This is so cool! Whilst I know without a doubt nothing I put together will stand a chance - am super keen to see what people create for this. With such a big contest and such a cool prize, I think people will be pulling out all stops (or whatever the saying is) so we should get some cool villains. :)

(May still try and enter after exams - 0.0001% chance is better than 0%, right? :P)

  9. The armour pieces make it look like he should be able to transform into an armoured ball or something like a Bohrok or something similar. :P

That being said I think his design is fine but as with some of the other Toa, the colour scheme probably could have been done better. I'm actually quite curious about the whole metallic piece thing. It feels a bit erratic - they must have something specific in mind.

  10. I feel like a good name would incorporate the word "Chronicle" somehow - given it's recurring significance in the franchise (or at least the original one). Between Takua, Hahli and the name Bionicle itself... :P

Also in addition to references to the Archives - references to the Wall of History or anything like that could also be cool. :)

  11. They might be a nice edition if done correctly. And the best guide was definitely the locations guide - the artwork was beautiful and it gave so much interesting and tantalizing information on places and cultures we knew of but hadn't seen properly. The writing style was also better than some of the others I thought too - gave information, but not too much. It created more mystery than it revealed. I'd definitely like another book of that style. :)

  12. The PC version of what is Bionicle: The Game is on itself a bughive and is overall quite glitchy. But the nostalgia, the variety of the gameplay and the best part of the storyline (2001-2003) gave my hunger for a decent Bionicle game a still. It was way superior to Bionicle: Heroes. Which was also a poor extra to our beloved franchise. The repetitive gameplay of a failed third-person shooter and a boring storyline (yes, I'm talking to you 2006) was a disappointment on itself. I would had prefered the two cancelled games over this disk-o-filth. So that being said...

I'd say 2006 had a good storyline - the problem was it didn't really feature in the game at all beyond the setting and characters used.

  13. I must say I would have rathered they re-used Mata Nui AND Makuta, or not use either. It does feel kind of odd having one without the other. :P That being said I'm guessing they decided the Makuta name was iconic to the line similar to the Toa Mata, whereas Mata Nui who appeared exclusively in the media and story until the end of the original series probably wasn't particularly iconic for the line to the majority of fans.

  14. Strong yes for first 2 - it has a lot of potential I think. As for the last one, I do find it a bit weird that they've retained some of the original names, but not others (I would have preferred to not have Makuta or at least Mata Nui to go with him). That being said it's clear they've taken the most popular words from the old series and reused them so I understand why, but I think I would have preferred new names to be honest. Hopefully the Toa characters don't have too many differences to weird me out. :P

  15. I really like the general premise they've gone with and the style of the setting and story - very similar to original Mata Nui, but different enough to feel separate and unique. It does seem odd they re-used Makua and the Toa names but not Mata Nui, but I'm happy enough with the new names/characters they've used. I actually might have preferred it if they'd used a different name instead of Makuta. :P Must also say I really liked the animation/visual style of the video and hope we see more media of that sort throughout the year (I prefer the cartoon kind of style over the CGI sort of style). :)

As for the story itself I really like the fact there's those three "legendary" masks it seems and the origin behind the one Makuta created. I also really really really really hope we get a game (RPG? :D ) set in Okoto and get to see the villages and lives interactively like with the previously online games. Overall I'm quite excited as I think this setup has a lot of potential.
