IndentBefore Varian's eyes was a destroyed city.
The buildings were aflame, smoke clouded the air, and the shouts and screams of Matoran could be heard from all around.
A group of Ga-Matoran were frantically attempting to douse a fire, but fled before their buckets were emptied, as they saw Toa Varian approaching.
A sharp object hit her from behind, and Varian spun to see where it came from.
It was a De-Matoran, now scrambling backward, eyes wide.
Varian stepped toward the Matoran slowly. She savored the moment... and then lightning flew from her fingertips. The Matoran dropped to the ground with a thud, armor burnt black. Villagers nearby cried out in shock, then ran as fast as they could.
IndentReturning her attention to the city, Varian observed the broken landscape. Toa and Turaga corpses littered the land among many Matoran's bodies. The few survivors were trying to escape, but finding a safe path through the fire and crumbling buildings was difficult... and nightmarish.
A Turaga of Air limped into Varian's peripheral vision, one of his legs badly injured.
Varian raised her arm, and a bolt of lightning struck the Turaga from the sky.
Varian approached the dead Turaga, staring into its lifeless eyes.
For a moment, she almost felt pity... regret.
Then her mind's eye was filled with visions of the past - rejection from her Toa team, the killing of her closest friend... and rage filled her up once more.
Varian ripped the Kanohi from the Turaga's face, crushed it in her hands, and let the fragments seep through her fingers.
