  1. Ahhhh, you're right. It's likely the edition I looked at was published in 2014. I did a search for "Bionicle" in a PDF copy of the book, which unfortunately only yielded the instances I mentioned above. I'm excited to see what Bob has to say about this topic in a few weeks.
  2. Are you sure that was the book? It was published in 2014 -- after G1 -- and doesn't mention anything about Bionicle's story plans. In fact, the two references to Bionicle are both wrong -- first that it launched in 2002 and second that it started as an online animated video series and then expanded into the realm of toys. If that was the book, I get the sense it's not a terribly reliable source.
  3. It appears based on promotional materials for the event that the 7 books topic will be addressed in the Bionicle Founders panel.
  4. I recently decided that it would be good for me to jump back into Bionicle as a serious hobby, so I'm starting with the basics -- that is, reviewing the Wikipedia article. One thing stood out to me that I'm wondering about. Throughout its history, the Wikipedia page has made reference to Bionicle being planned to last 20 years. The earliest reference to this plan popped up in an anonymous edit on 09:13, 28 December 2014, which states that, "Even though both themes [Slizers/Throwbots and RoboRiders] were short-lived, they proved to be popular, prompting Lego to create a new theme with an original storyline as a product staple to last at least twenty years." Variations on this statement appear under the "Concept" subheading until Wikipedia user Bigwhofan added the following to the "Generation 1" subheading: "A total of seven different story arcs were originally planned to be carried out over Bionicle's planned-twenty year tenure. Only three were ever completed, while the fourth was altered to end prematurely after the announcement of the theme's cancellation" (23:32, 27 September 2016). This statement was minimally altered until removal on 16:45, 23 March 2020, with the only remaining reference to this 20-year plan being in its current form under the intro. The most frustrating thing about all of this is that there is no reference. Have LEGO or Greg indicated an original plan for Bionicle to last two decades? If so, has there been any information on what the full seven arcs would have been like?
  5. It looks like it wasn't funded, which is a shame.
  6. I definitely think the advent of social media is what killed it, assuming one can agree that is dead. I'm not sure when I started going inactive -- probably around the time G1 ended -- but what really made me forget about BZPower was getting on social media in 2013. On Facebook, I have found a vibrant Bionicle community, and I have little need for a forum because I like the format of Facebook better. This issue is compounded for people on multiple social media accounts. It eats up a lot of non-productive time, and thus the forum gets ignored as social media takes up an increasing amount of attention. Plus, when it comes to the internet, stuff just goes out of vogue. For example, I was a huge fan of Goodreads back in my high school years. But since then, people have moved on and none of my friends from there are active anymore. That said, there are still corners of the site where quiet conversation occurs, and the same applies to BZPower. In order for a community to be truly dead, it has to leave the minds and hearts of every living person, and I don't see that happening for a few decades.
  7. Honestly, I wish they could just pretend G2 never happened. Perhaps this is just me being old and cranky (I'm older than most members here), but G1 was perfect and if they could just start right where they left off in 2010, I'd be down for that.
  8. I really do hope they step away from simply mimicking the first generation...
  9. Thanks for the clarification. I'm a little...nah, a lot disappointed to hear it, because it would've been nice to continue learning more about the Bionicle universe. But I guess they need to dumb it down for Gen Z to get it. >.>
  10. I heard about the Bionicle reboot only a few weeks ago, and I was hoping someone could clear up some confusion for me. When I first heard about the reboot, and the fact that it included characters from the original story bible, I was really surprised. It seems like, after seeing a reappearance of Tahu & Co. in 2008, they were overusing them. However, it appears that they're just recycling names and there will be no connection to Generation 1. Can anybody verify that?
  11. Hm...good question. I've been thinking about the masks breaking before and I question if the MoC breaking would change much. Perhaps it would just stop working...?
  12. Dude, can you post some instructions for this. It might actually get me to buy some Hero Factory sets.
