  1. I absolutely love your views. It warms my heart to see such passion. Your dedication is extremely commendable. And it's so nice a change to see someone who realises that misogyny and sexism is something women go through every day and not an isolated incident.

That said, I agree with BioGio's point as I understand it - that people are more willing to listen if you do not attack them personally.

I will never say that activists should not get angry about the abuse women endure. I will never ask a fellow feminist to "calm down". Because they have reason to be angry and frustrated and their fury stems from being ignored, insulted and thwarted in their attempts to empower women.

What I do request is that the feminists who represent us try to inspire people to action rather than attack them for their apathy.

We are fighting to change the world. We need every helping hand we can get and cannot afford to alienate anyone by making them feel personally insulted. Challenging their assumptions is absolutely necessary but in talking with feminists and others, I've found it's more effective to do so in a way that lets them retain their pride. We don't need to scorn their beliefs for them to realise their folly. We need to help others understand why they should be as passionate about it as we are.

God bless your compassionate soul. And thank you for the hope you have given me today.

  2. (Hi, I'm nobody but wished to put my opinion on this.)

In my vague understanding, the current system is in place to prevent hate speech. People get very passionate about political and religious issues. When there is conflict in opinion, this passion lends itself far too easily in insults and really hurtful comments - from both sides.

You speak of bigots who need to be corrected. The fact is that with all due respect, you are not called upon to change others' opinions. They have the right to their opinion, whether right or wrong. If you have the freedom to express your opinion, they must have also.

At the present, if you are gagged, so are they. Changing this is liable to spark conflict and insults to both sides, which I guess is what the staff wishes to avoid.

Do not get me wrong. I support LGBT rights, women rights and equality for all. I was celebrating too on Wednesday. I want to see a society where all people are free to be who they are without discrimination or hate speech. The mere fact is that if you want your opinion to be heard, you cannot ask for another's to be silenced.

  3. It is highly sensitive observation, in a way.

It's a bit hard to explain, if you don't have it. Let me try.... A person's character is essentially nothing but the emotions that drive them the most - pride, anger, resolve, sympathy, etc. Furthermore, a person's facial expressions and body language reflect what they're thinking at the moment. To some extent, anyone can pick up emotions and thoughts, especially for close friends.

People train to be able to read body language and facial expressions to a greater degree.

However, I, and consequently Naina, can read a person's face without training. It's something I've been able to do for years without really thinking about it. I always assumed everyone could, you know?

Naina is a precocious child and shows this to a high degree. She can read any person like a book within five minutes of meeting them. She can tell you their secrets and worries, the truth behind what they say and what they don't say. She knows too much and always has. And that's her curse.

Just like Sherlock Holmes could tell a man's profession and personal history through telling physical signs.

  4. Haha, thanks, it just occurred to me.

I'm writing a teenage fiction - Naina is a girl with an uncanny ability to see things. I also possess this ability, hence the name.

Mike, Anne and Jason are all people who are trying to help, because Naina is marginalised and isolated thanks to her unique blessing and curse.

Incidentally, you probably don't remember me, but I was an editor on BS01 like you - KH?
