  2. "What if everything we thought we knew...was wrong?" Mystery. Betrayal. Survival. A series based on LEGO's Bionicle, "The Halfway" shifts from the original universe composed by Greg Farshtey and C.A. Hapka and takes dramatic turns into unexplored territory. Characters, settings, plots, origins, villains, storyline, and endings have all been altered to fit a new reality- one that strongly parallels our own. With new challenges, mysteries, and developments, all awaits revelation in this dramatic re-telling of the classic Bionicle story. (More information about the series can be found at: https://www.patreon.com/hebarlow) Link to review/discussion: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/24447-the-halfway-review/
  3. This is a costume that I built for Halloween this last year. I wanted to emulate a realistic version of the mata designs while also keeping some aspects of the original toy. This is what I came up with. The miru is just a stand-in for now, but a hau is being made. The blue jumpsuit is also being replaced with a more skintight black suit, with more detailing as well. Here's a good photo of it. https://www.flickr.com/photos/94050823@N02/30745594156/in/dateposted-public/ And also a video of it.
  4. Hi there BZPower members! So in November of last year I posted my first versions of the BIONICLE movies upscaled, and many of you enjoyed them. Well, I have the latest, final (February 2017) versions out now, in both the 16:9 Aspect Ratio and a Widescreen format. I hope you enjoy the remasters of all three films! If you'd like, please discuss below your thoughts about the latest versions. Thanks again for reading this post! -KopakaFan116 (Krexa Prime on YT) BIONICLE 2: Legends of Metru Nui https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFwpcArl7IE&index=3&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBSF_N9O7NA&index=2&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8wIVmd9fEnOXy5wmIkF3qQp BIONICLE 3: Web of Shadows (Widescreen): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttn0Rnkmydo&index=4&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7 (Original 16:9 Aspect Ratio): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqtZYxPhaMQ&index=3&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8wIVmd9fEnOXy5wmIkF3qQp BIONICLE: Mask of Light (Widescreen): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_E2ndPgTLY&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7 (Original 16:9 Aspect Ratio): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaZXu1Nqavs&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8wIVmd9fEnOXy5wmIkF3qQp BIONICLE: Mask of Light - Extended Ending Remaster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udseVTN-DMc&index=2&list=PLuJLd4wg3M8ye1fCqJGVjP2Ovk1kobZV7
  5. [Render] Kraata-Kal by Artemiy Karpinskiy, on Flickr “He is extremely ambitious and has more than once ignored his mission objectives in the interests of his own profit. The last time this happened, I had Vezok show him how easily armor can be shattered when you know how.” — The Shadowed One, Dark Hunters This is Kraata-Kal, a prodigal son to the very Makuta Teridax. Once upon a time Makuta decided to experiment with mysterious mutagen known as Kal and dipped a Kraata of his own making into it. The resulting creature proved to be too intelligent, and with ambitions worth of his heritage, so soon after Kraata-Kal received himself a heavily modified Rahkshi-like exo-skeleton, he left the home shores of Destral towards the new beginning as the Dark Hunter. This model is made in the likeness of Demitsorou‘s depiction of Kraata-Kal. * * * If you like what I do and you want to see me create your OC, a favorite Bionicle Character, or something else, feel free to look up my Commission Info! 6. Hi, guys! Yesterday's was St. Patrick's Day, so happy belated St. Patrick's Day! Anyway, I would like to ask a fun question: If Bionicle characters would celebrate their own St. Patrick's Day, how would you think they would do it? For me, I have some ideas, all of them involving green characters: 1. Le-Matoran and Bo-Matoran - believe that a Le-Matoran or Bo-Matoran, who would be their own leprechaun, and he would hide a pot of gold widgets and can somehow summon a rainbow. Perhaps they would call their holiday "St. Le-Matoran's Day" or "St. Bo-Matoran's Day". 2. Green Skakdi - believe that a green Skakdi, who would be their own leprechaun, and he would hide a pot of gold widgets, or bones, and can somehow summon a rainbow. 3. Ehlek's species, believe that a member of the species, who would be their own leprechaun, and he would hide a pot of gold widgets, or bones, and can somehow summon a rainbow. 4. Green Agori - believe that a green Agori, who would be their own leprechaun, and he would hide a pot of gold metals and can somehow summon a rainbow. 5. The Jungle tribe of Okoto people from Bionicle G2 - believe that a member of the tribe, who would be their own leprechaun, and he would hide a pot of gold metal or Jungle crystals and can somehow summon a rainbow. Plus, all of them would do a St. Patrick's Day dance, play musical instruments, believe that they could get magically lucky somehow. So, there. I know that Bionicle character don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but it would be interesting if they would celebrate their own versions of the holiday. What do you think?
  7. Well it's been a while since I've posted a MOC on here now hasn't it. I guess multiple factors contributed to this like school and sudden lack of interest in MOCing caused me to take a little bit of a hiatus. But now I'm back, with an actual self MOC, a background and a new camera I got for Christmas. First off, here's what the first version of this guy looked (keep in mind this isn't the actual MOC of this topic): https://flic.kr/p/JwyJSU Now here's what he looks like currently: https://flic.kr/p/SoTrAb Quite an upgrade, if I do say so myself. More photos: https://flic.kr/p/SoTm3Y https://flic.kr/p/SoTsrE https://flic.kr/p/RaTm5A https://flic.kr/p/SgngdV https://flic.kr/p/SgnhdR https://flic.kr/p/RSLyt7 Weapons and accesories: https://flic.kr/p/RzTYoU If enough people ask, I can provide the skeleton of the torso and and the legs. As always, feedback is appreciated. P.S. W.A.M.W stands for Walking Arsenal of Mass Weaponry.
  8. [Render] Karzahni, the Lord of Nightmares by Artemiy Karpinskiy, on Flickr "Look at this universe — damaged, broken, disorderly. It needs someone to take care of it ... to take care of everything and everyone, from now until forever." — Karzahni to Hahli, Dark Destiny This is Karzahni, the ruler of the hellish land in Matoran Universe, and the namesake of this realm. Since the time before Time, Karzahni was tasked with repairing the Matoran sent to him from all across the Matoran Universe. At first he really tried to make a difference for the poor things, but, with time, he realized he simply can't do it. Fueled by his envy for his "brother" Artakha and the maddening visions sent by his Kanohi Mask, Karzahni have slowly deteriorated into a tyrannical sociopath, prone to sudden and radical mood swings: one moment he's soft and welcoming, and the other he bursts into a murderous rage. In the past, he wore a black and gold armor, but with time its colors changed to reflect the deterioration of his psyche. His Kanohi Olisi is the Mask of Alternate Futures. Although not inherently evil or maddening, it was used by Karzahni to show his prisoners the worst possible futures that await them to break their morale. Karzahni's tools are known as Flaming Chains, they are capable of heating up to such degree that they'll still burn even when taken underwater. The chains are also made to channel the power of Kanohi Olisi. 9. Hi, guys! Today is the first anniversary of Bionicle's Netflix show, Bionicle: The Journey to One! It was released on March 4, 2016 (Same age as a Disney movie called Zootopia, which coincidentally is about animals, like the show). The show is the first TV show that Bionicle ever had (though I don't like it being exclusive in Netflix because I don't like wasting my money for it. Why did it happen this way? Why couldn't it be in a TV channel, like Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon)? ). The show has four 22-minute main episodes, plus a shorter prologue. The show takes place in the G2 universe, as the Toa Masters became Toa Uniters to find the Elemental Creatures and the Golden Masks of Unity, so they can find the Mask of Control. However, Umarak, the main-ish antagonist in the first three main episodes and the 2016 storyline, and his Shadow Traps are sent by Makuta, G2's main antagonist, to capture the Elemental Creatures and find the Mask for him. The Toa and Umarak race each other until Umarak got the mask and turned into Makuta's Destroyer. Makuta then sent Umarak to collect the lost pieces of the destroyed Mask of Ultimate Power and use them to open a portal that can help Makuta get out of the Shadow Realm. It's up to the Toa, along with their mentor named Ekimu the Mask Maker, go to stop and fight Umarak and Makuta. The show was well-liked by many people (heard that Netflix gave it three out of five stars). I watched and liked the show. It was good, but could've been better in terms of story. I liked the animation, which is 3-D (similar to Transformers: Robots in Disguise in 2015 and Iron Man: Armor Adventures, and 3-D is more adequate to our taste to Bionicle G2 than the 2015 Online Animations, which is 2-D). It's weird that it has 2-D-like bits (similar to Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra), but it's reminds me of the Mata Nui Online Games. I also like the action, accuracy to the 2016 sets, voice acting because it's better than the 2015 Online Animations (more voice actors than one, too. Awesome!), comedy, pacing until the fourth episode, and character development. It's very sad that the show ended in the same year it was released in, along with the G2 franchise itself, and I didn't like the rushing in the end of the G2 story in there, either. But, as I said, it is a good show. Not the best Lego TV show, but, still, a good show. I loved that Bionicle has a TV show for the first time. I thought it was a good way to celebrate Bionicle's 15th anniversary. If anyone likes this show, go celebrate! What's your favorite moment in there? For me, I liked the one where Pohatu learned that he has to Unite with Ketar on important occasions the hard way, Umarak the Destroyer going Hulk on the Toa, and Lewa being a comedy relief as he always does.

  12. Hi, guys! Do you like Lego Dimensions or ever played it? Ever wished that it could have Bionicle? Well, Lego Dimensions is all about including franchises of various kinds. I know that Bionicle is not mainly a minifigure-based franchise, like Ninjago, but it had minifigures and playsets in the past, similar to Hero Factory's Invasion From Below waves in 2014. Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is that I would like to ask this: If Bionicle were to be included in Lego Dimensions, how would you like to be. Let me tell you my thoughts for example: Adventure World: A portal door thing in Vorton that leads to the Bionicle Adventure World would have the Toa Mata/Nuva/Masters/Uniters' elements making it. In the Bionicle Adventure World, you can explore the island of Mata Nui, the Matoran Universe (mainly Metru Nui, Voya Nui, Mahri Nui, and Karda Nui), Spherus Magna, and/or Okoto. In these places, you get to meet Bionicle characters who would ask you to either buy something that Lord Vortech stole to restore it or to do them a favor, so they would give you a golden Lego brick. These characters would be: 1. Matoran, Agori, Glatorian, Skrall, Okoto villager, and/or sapient Skull Creature in general - they would ask you if you can buy things that Vortech stole to give them back to the World. 3. The Turaga and Matoran of Mata Nui - ask you to go get things, like masks and the Makoki Stone, or fight enemies, like the Infected Rahi. 4. Turaga Dume and Matoran of Metru Nui - go get something, like Kanoka disks, and/or fight Vahki and/or Visorak. 5. Sidorak and Roodaka - they would ask you to capture some Toa or Matoran. 6. The Shadowed One - ask you to get the Makoki Stone, Toa, or Matoran, or help him fight the Brotherhood of Makuta's servants. 7. Matoran of Voya Nui - ask you to save their enslaved brethren or get Zamor Spheres or Energized Protodermis. 8. Zaktan - ask you to capture Matoran and get Zamor spheres or Antidermis. 9. Brutaka - ask you to get Antidermis. 10. Matoran of Mahri Nui - ask you to collect Air Bubbles or Air Launchers. 11. Kalmah - ask you to find some Sea Squids. 12. Lesovikk - ask you to help him get things to remind him of his lost Toa Team. 13. 2008 Makuta in Karda Nui - ask you to collect Matoran or Shadow Leeches. 14. Matoran of Karda Nui - ask you to collect Shadow Leeches or find other Matoran. 15. The Order of Mata Nui - ask you to find some Protosteel stuff. 16. Agori - ask you to fight in their arenas. 17. Malum - ask you to find some Vorox or Zesk. 18. Great Beings - ask you to find some materials for their creations or lost creations. 19. The Protectors from Bionicle G2 - ask you to find some lost masks or rescue their people. 20. Ekimu - ask you to find some materials for his masks or lost masks. 21. Kulta the Skull Grinder - ask you to find some masks. 22. Makuta Teridax/G2 Makuta - ask you to collect masks. Playable characters in Packs, and their abilities and "special extra things" (Note: *'s on the selected characters are my favorites): 1. Tahu* - Fun Pack, Fun Pack, Story Pack, or in a new Starter Pack - use fire to heat and blow up golden Lego objects, melt ice from frozen things, use his sword(s) to deflect lasers, shoot at targets, and fly. Ikir would be his creature to ride on, and it can also fly, shoot fire to heat and blow up golden Lego objects, and melt ice from frozen things. Tahu would have the ability to switch forms, similar to the Ghostbusters and the Doctor from Doctor Who, except that he doesn't die to do this. He would switch from Mata to Nuva, Adaptive Armored Nuva, 2010 form, Golden-Armored 2010 form, Master, and Uniter in a cycle. When in AA Nuva form, he could turn to his pilot form when he rides something. 2. Gali - Fun Pack - use water to get rid of toxic waste and extinguish fire, swim in deep water, shoot at targets, and fly. Akida would be her creature to ride on, and it can also fly, shoot water to get rid of toxic waste, and swim in deep water. She would switch forms from Mata to Nuva, AA Nuva, Master, and United in a cycle. When AA Nuva form, she could change into her pilot form when riding something. 3. Lewa - Fun Pack or Team Pack with Onua - is acrobatic, can fly, slice green Lego vines, and shoot at targets. He would come with either the Axalara T9 or Uxar. The Axalara can fly and blast silver Lego objects while Uxar can also fly and slice vines. Lewa could also switch from his Mata form to Nuva, AA Nuva, Master, and Uniter in a cycle. When in AA Nuva form, he could turn into his pilot form, seen in the Axalara T9 set in 2008, when riding something. 4. Kopaka - Fun Pack or Team Pack with Pohatu - can fly, freeze things, extinguish fire, and use X-Ray Vision. He would come with either the Jetrax T6 or Melum. The Jetrax can fly and destroy silver objects while Melum can freeze things and extinguish fire. Kopaka could also switch from his Mata form to Nuva, AA Nuva, Master, and Uniter in a cycle. When in AA Nuva form, he could turn into his pilot form when riding something. 5. Pohatu - Fun Pack or Team Pack with Kopaka - can fly, drill though Lego plates, shoot at targets, has super-strength, and throw boomerangs to activate boomerang-based switches. I know it's a lot, but Lego Dimensions is all about putting a lot of iconic stuff from a franchise that it includes. So, what about your ideas, guys? (Note: Please don't say something like "This would most likely not going to happen" or "I don't think it is most likely possible". We can just talk about how would you like Bionicle to be in Lego Dimensions if it would be included in there).
  13. Hello All, it's been a while. I've been relatively silent on here recently, which doesn't surprise me much honestly. Christmas came and went, with me receiving the last Six 2001 Bionicle sets that I needed to complete my collection for that year. In total I got all six Mctoran, the Nui-Jaga, Muaka & Kane-Ra, and seven noble Kanohi. I've still got quite a few missing as far as the Kanohi go, but I expected that. The Mctoran were all complete including their polybags, Muaka & Kane-Ra was kind of new in box (The previous owner had opened it just to put the treads in a Ziploc), and the Nui-Jaga were sealed in box. I did feel bad about opening them, but I really wanted to build them! Anyway, that is not the point of this entry. The point is that seeing all of the revived creativity in the art and library forums has reignited my interest in fixing and finishing my Bionicle Legacies series. The conversion I had been working on stalled, and I really don't have the motivation to continue it, and I'm taking a break from my High Fantasy book for a bit longer. The reposting/rewrite of The Return will start soon, and hopefully won't take too long. The majority of my ideas right now are towards the long planned prequel, and the incomplete sequel. The short stories that are part of the series will likely be posted before any of that, as most of them aren't that embarrassing. Mostly I'm just excited to revisit the AU that I created over ten years ago. How's everyone else doing?
  14. These are the final pieces for a series of models commissioned by ghost-mantis! Throughout 2016 she was commissioning me to do reimaginations of Bionicle Gen2 Elemental Creatures. Finally, the set is complete! [uxar and Ketar post] [Akida and Ikir post] So, first we have here Terak, an Elemental Creature of Earth. Decided to go with the most obvious animal reference - the mole. Love the drill nuzzle. :3 [Digital MOC Commission] Terak by Artemiy Karpinskiy, on Flickr The second piece is Melum, the Elemental Creature of Ice. I drew my inspiration from polar bear and pangolin (hence the plating). There’s also a bit of a tiger in here somewhere, unintentional but I can’t shake the feeling it’s there. 15. Kind of a follow-up on "To Build a Toa," but I didn't make a whole bunch of art for this one, so I figured this would be the best place to put it. Not a story as much as a technical study and outflow from a headcanon brainstorming exercise, but I'm interested to know what y'all think about it all the same. edit: actually, in retrospect the "Bionicle Story and Theories" forum would've been a better place for both this topic and "To Build a Toa"... --- The process by which Matoran were constructed for thousands of years was unfortunately lost with the Great Spirit robot, and it took years before the robot’s former residents made at least a partial re-discovery of it, allowing new Matoran to be created once again. Some changes were inevitably introduced in the reverse engineering of the process, however, and multiple problems were encountered that could only be solved through some significant design changes. Nowadays, an uninformed observer wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a pre- and post-Reformation Matoran (referred to as “Matoran Nuva” or “Nuvatoran” in those early days), but the development of the latter was a contentious issue in Matoran society for quite some time. Its numerous setbacks did nothing to help, and it took many trials over several hundred years before the Matoran could at last claim that they had successfully developed a practical method of reproduction that did not require the resources of the Great Spirit robot to work. The main limitation encountered was the difficulty of programming a Matoran brain before activation. Inside the Great Spirit Robot, a Matoran’s role was often assigned even before construction began and the Matoran’s brain could be programmed beforehand with all the knowledge necessary to perform the task, with some additional ‘baseline’ knowledge thrown in to allow them to function in society. In essence, a newly constructed Matoran was mentally as prepared to face the world as an Agori with ten or fifteen years alive and a couple of months on a job under their belt. However, the equipment used to program a Matoran brain in this manner was lost with the destruction of the Great Spirit robot, and techniques developed since then have proven comparatively crude and ineffective; programming a Matoran to be ready to face the world from day one as before proved impossible, and even implanting a decent baseline of knowledge with any degree of consistency was extremely challenging. Faced with a dilemma between creating new Matoran far inferior in mental capacity to their predecessors or leaving their entire species with no means of reproduction whatsoever, Matoran scientists and engineers were willing to look just about anywhere for an answer. They found one among their neighbors, the Agori, in what had up until then been little more than a curious phenomenon to the Matoran: childhood. It had been observed early on after the Reformation by the Matoran that the markedly different physiques of the Agori and Glatorian came with a very different method of reproduction. The former residents of the Great Spirit Robot were shocked to learn for the first time about the concept of sexual reproduction, but curiosity aside, they had concluded initially that it provided their counterparts with no practical advantages. The offspring produced through it was small, vulnerable, could not take care of itself, and had to be taught how to function in the world by their creators, a process that could take years and did not truly end until the offspring physically matured to a point at which Matoran were essentially created. However, unable to create offspring that could mentally be considered equivalent to Agori or Glatorian adults (or at least young adults) from day one, the Matoran decided to take a second look at their neighbors’ methods of raising offspring. They concluded that, since Matoran capacity for learning was no less than that of their organic counterparts, creating Matoran ‘children’ and instructing them until they could function on their own was an acceptable alternative to creating no new Matoran at all, and it would not require the complicated programming that creating ‘adults’ would. Other than some basic sensory and motor skills, which were by far the easiest part of the programming to recreate, these Matoran children could essentially be activated as blank slates, filled in over time through instruction by others. So, the first “Nuvatoran” to be created, while physically identical to their pre-Reformation counterparts, were mentally equivalent to Agori infants with more developed motor skills. They were a curious sight to many, and the many were also a curious sight to them. The process of instructing them in how to function in the world had to be developed essentially through trial and error as, understandably, no Matoran had any experience in parenting. The teaching experience of those who had worked in old Ga-Metru did help, but wasn’t easily applicable to Matoran lacking even baseline knowledge. Advice from the Glatorian and Agori was forthcoming, but not always applicable due to the marked physical differences between their children and what the Matoran had saddled themselves with. Incidents of Nuvatoran wandering off and getting into very dangerous situations out of curiosity and lack of knowing any better abounded, and a number were unfortunately lost because of them. Rumors began to circulate, unfavorably comparing the newcomers to the “shamblers” of Le-Metru during the Vahki era. It was due to this comparison that “Nuvatoran” became a derogatory term for a time, carrying connotations of mental inferiority and a penchant for foolish behavior. Many methods of instruction, of raising the accident-prone Nuvatoran were tried and discarded, and in the end a “parent” system modeled after the Agori way of raising children proved to be the best. Two older, experienced Matoran could share the load of instructing and watching over a Nuvatoran in a way that did not require them to abandon their day job, and having more than two instructors often proved confusing for the Nuvatoran right after activation. After establishment of certain baselines by the parents, further instruction through Ga-Metru style schools would become possible. Development of proper parenting methods ensured that, while it took several years of instruction, the earliest Nuvatoran eventually did reach a true adult stage of development and became quite indistinguishable from their pre-Reformation counterparts. Their reputation steadily improved because of it, and the now shared experience of parenting became a bridge of sorts between Matoran and Agori cultures; in spite of their physical differences, the two suddenly seemed less alien to each other. Eventually, adopting newly created Nuvatoran became normal for Matoran pairs confident that they could raise one together, introducing the concept of ‘family’ to Matoran culture, though it never became as prominent a social tie for the Matoran as it was to the Agori. Nuvatoran that made it to the adult stage of life and left their parental home usually kept in contact to at least some degree, but unless proximity kept parents and child close over time, they eventually came to regard each other as little more than acquaintances; the parental dynamic always remained a temporary one, adopted by the Matoran rather than biologically ingrained in them, and over the enormous lifespan that a well-maintained Matoran could achieve the period spent in childhood would eventually become little more than an insignificant blip in memory. The lack of any physical differences between those Matoran who had had a childhood and those who hadn’t in some ways reinforced this attitude; few saw a reason to dwell on or revel in a period of life that many of their companions could never share. For some Matoran, however, the effects of childhood would extend beyond close ties to parents or time spent under instruction; already mimicking the Agori in mental development early in life, similar developments could be brought to the Nuvatoran physique as well through concept of “diminished building.” The idea of a diminished Matoran was nothing new even before the Reformation; the entire population of the island of Mata Nui was diminished for most of their time there, for example. A diminished Matoran is markedly smaller and weaker than a regular one, and pre-Reformation, there were a number of ways in which this condition could be acquired. In the case of Mata Nui’s residents, the cause lay in the time they spent in Matoran Pods constructed by Makuta Teridax. Various mutative powers could also turn regular Matoran into diminished ones, and some Matoran who spent time in Karzahni were rebuilt in simpler, diminished forms by its ruler. In the former two cases, the underlying mechanism was the programmable nature of the protodermic materials from which Matoran were constructed; Matoran spheres and mutative powers in essence instructed the very material the Matoran were made of to re-shape in ways that mutated the body into a diminished form. In the case of the Matoran Spheres, the additional material left over was siphoned off to power the spheres as well; Matoran left inside for too long could physically be drained into oblivion. Diminished Matoran could be re-built, or in rare cases, re-mutated in to regular forms if materials were provided, but outside of the reconstruction of the Mata Nui population materials were rarely made available. Diminishment therefore had obvious negative connotations to the Matoran, but during development of the Nuvatoran one did note that diminished Matoran were a good physical analogue to Agori children. The image stuck, and the idea of building Matoran in diminished ‘child’ forms to be upgraded to regular ‘adult’ forms later on was developed further, though not openly for common use due to the aforementioned connotations. There was an economic argument, or perhaps rationalization, that underpinned diminished building as a viable concept: just under half the height of a regular Matoran, a diminished Matoran only required a little over a third of the materials to build. For a time, this was seen as quite a significant advantage, but leaving Matoran in a diminished state was certainly unacceptable; eventually, a Matoran built diminished would have to be re-built at regular size at the cost of the materials saved in their initial construction. Still, diminished building’s potential to reduce the frontloaded nature of material investment in the creation of new Matoran made it an attractive alternative for when materials happened to be scarce; having been activated, the diminished Matoran could aid in the gathering of those materials themselves, in effect earning back on their construction cost even before their upgrade to regular status. With the rise of this economic argument, the initial idea of diminished building offering the Matoran a ‘physical childhood’ kind of fell by the wayside, but before the concept was mothballed entirely its development in that role was taken one step further through the very same mutative properties that had led to the creation of most pre-reformation diminished Matoran. Matoran scientists managed to engineer an artificial growth cycle, a process by which, provided adequate consumption of protodermic materials as building blocks, a diminished Matoran’s body could slowly ‘grow’ into a regular-sized body. The process was slow, taking a little over a decade in total, but it could provide a Nuvatoran with an even closer experience to Agori childhood and would not require an intensive re-build at any point in their lives. However, outside of a few test cases it was never seen in practice on Spherus Magna; materials for Matoran construction were never hard to come by and no one articulated any practical advantages to giving Matoran a physical childhood to match their mental one. Diminished building was developed on Spherus Magna mostly out of curiosity and as a test for the Matoran to see how well they truly understood their own biology, but no arguments for its widespread adoption ever emerged. The development of Matoran childhood, a concept that would have been utterly foreign to the residents of the Great Spirit robot years before, is a good example of how these beings designed originally to function in the controlled environment of that robot had to adapt themselves to live on Spherus Magna afterwards. It is not the only change that can be observed between the pre- and post-Reformation Matoran, though; it is merely the largest item of a long list that contains several other major changes. For example, many changes were made to the Matoran mouth and digestive system to allow them to more easily derive all their nourishment from consumption of food and drink rather than through the use of charging points; in the early years after the Reformation, Spherus Magna lacked any infrastructure for charging points and hence the dietary change was forced on the robot’s former inhabitants. The other major change was the practical elimination of elemental gender-locking, the practice of basing Matoran gender on their element. This wasn’t so much a conscious choice on the part of the creators of the Nuvatoran as it was a natural outcome of the differences introduced in the creation process; within the Great Spirit robot, the personality and hence gender of a Matoran were always programmed in beforehand, and this simply wasn’t possible with the comparatively crude programming methods available for Nuvatoran creation. Ce-Matoran notwithstanding, the Great Beings’ reasons for linking elements with gender were never clear to the Matoran regardless, so the development of ‘tribally unusual’ personalities among the Nuvatoran was greeted curiosity rather than hostility. The first female Ta-Matoran and male Ga-Matoran were a disruption to the order, sure, but not to an order that anyone could make a practical argument for retaining. It wasn’t long before the populations of all the tribes included members of both genders, though tendencies towards one or the other remained; most tribes eventually settled around a 65:35 split in favor of the gender associated with their element, with the Ce- and Su-Matoran emerging as the most prominent outliers with percentages closer to 90:10.
  16. Hi, guys! Since that the idea about Disney owning Bionicle was revealed to be a fake (click here: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23996-lego-what-have-you-done/ ), I am going to talk about this: if a cinematic Bionicle movie were to be made, how would you like it to be? I know that we have four Bionicle movies in 2003-2009, but they are direct-to-video movies that take over 70 minutes. I am talking about movies that first appear in the cinemas, like the Transformers, Marvel and DC Comics superheroes, Star Wars, and The Lego Movie. For me, I would go with these ideas: Studios: Warner Bros. (Bionicle made a cameo in their movie, The Lego Movie), Disney (the first three direct-to-video movies in 2003-2005 were made by Miramax, which I heard is a division of Disney. Plus, I would believe that Disney could improve Bionicle in the way it improved Marvel and Star Wars), or Universal (the fourth direct-to-video movie, The Legend Reborn in 2009, was made by them). I would go with Warner Bros because they are making The Lego Movie Cinematic Universe, and this is about Lego characters, original or licensed from already existing franchises, like DC Comics, in general. Animated or live-action, and how would the story be based on that: I would prefer either. If it were to be live-action, the story would have human beings and takes place on the Planet Earth for the first time. The Bionicle worlds (either the Matoran Universe, Spherus Magna, or the G2 world) would also be seen, as they could make appearances, too. For the Bionicle characters who appear in the live-action movie, some of them would be people dressed in CGI costumes (similar to "I, Robot" in 2004 and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltes movies in 2014-2016) while others, like the Rahi, would be entirely CGI. It would be like a mix of Transformers, Avatar in 2009, TMNT, "I, Robot", Pacific Rim, Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe, and Star Wars movies in 2002-2015 if you can think of the CGI graphics in live-action movies that way, since Bionicle characters are bio-mechanical. If the movie were to be computer-animated, it should be 3D, like the direct-to-video movies. The story would not include the human-and-Earth-ideas I said above, as it would focus on the Bionicle characters and their own worlds. I would imagine this movie would be like a mix of Moana (2016) and How to Train Your Dragon (2010-2014) that way (Think of it as it has these beautiful kinds of graphics). Besides these types of reality in the movie, most of the scenes in The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, and The Lego Ninjago Movie show what it seems to be stop-motion. If a cinematic Bionicle movie would have stop-motion, it would be a part of The Lego Movie Cinematic Universe. However, I prefer either live-action or computer-animated. Story: The story should be somewhere as good as or better than G1. If it were to be live-action, the story would be about Bionicle characters (who were introduced in G1 and G2) coming to Earth and do stuff there. The Toa (Mata) would crash land on Earth with their Toa canisters and meet and make friends with some humans. They would also hide from other humans who don't understand them until the Toa show that they are heroes who have a duty to protect Earth from evil villains from their own home world (either Matoran Universe, Spherus Magna, or the G2 world), as it is either their new home or a peaceful place to visit. The Toa would also go on quests to find some Bionicle-related stuff on Earth, like weapons or the Great Beings. The humans would act like other Bionicle characters to the Toa, like the Matoran and Turaga. Some of these humans would become their allies that way, but the Toa have to be the main protagonists. If the Bionicle movie is a part of The Lego Movie Cinematic Universe, well, let's just say that extra people, like minifigures from other worlds, would appear along with the Bionicle characters, who appear as giants to them. Some of the Bionicle characters would be able to Master-Build, like the Master-Builders. Having its own Cinematic Universe or be a part of another Cinematic Universe: Well, I would go with either way. If the Bionicle movie were to be a part of The Lego Movie Cinematic Universe, see above, and I would say that it could most likely since The Lego Movie Cinematic Universe is about Lego in general. I would like to think of a Cinematic Universe that is very similar to Lego Dimensions, where Bionicle characters meet characters from other Lego themes with their own storylines and universes, like The Lego Movie, Ninjago, Nexo Knights, Hero Factory, Legends of Chima, and Mixels, as this Cinematic Universe would be called The Lego Theme Cinematic Universe. I would like to imagine something like Tahu working together Avengers-style with Emmet (TLM), Lloyd (Ninjago), Clay Moorington (NK), Preston Stormer (HF), Laval (LoC), and Flain (Mixels) to fight against a powerful enemy, like Makuta Teridax, the Overlord from Ninjago, or someone else old or new. If Bionicle would be a part of a Lego Constraction Cinematic Universe, the Bionicle would do the same thing as above, but only with other constraction themes, like Hero Factory, Slizers/Throwbots, Robo Riders, or some new theme that would be replacing Bionicle this year. If Bionicle would have its own Cinematic Universe, may it be called the Bionicle Cinematic Universe, where it only focuses on the Bionicle characters (and perhaps humans along the way if it were live-action, but still, only the Bionicle characters would be the main protagonists), kind of similar to Transformers. If one of these Cinematic Universes were to be selected, I would go with these made-up Bionicle-related-or-dominated movies: 1. Bionicle 1 - Toa Mata/Masters vs. The Infected Rahi/Skull Creatures and Makuta and searching for magic and golden masks. 2. Bionicle 2 - The Toa become Uniters and unite with Elemental Creatures and fight against Umarak or the Bohrok. 3. Bionicle 3 - the Uniters would become the Toa Nuva and probably fight the Bohrok/Bohrok-Kal. 4. Bionicle 4 - Toa Nuva and Takanuva fighting against Umarak/Rahkshi and Makuta Teridax. 5. Bionicle Origins: Toa Metru - a prequel that would be based on the 2004 storyline 6. Bionicle Origins: Toa Metru 2: Rise of the Toa Hordika - a sequel to the previous movie, but still a prequel, that would be based on the 2005 storyline. 7. Bionicle Untold Stories: Toa Mangai - tells the adventures of the Toa Mangai. 8. Bionicle Untold Stories: Toa Jovan's Team - tells the adventures of Toa Jovan's Team. 9. Bionicle: Toa Inika - a spinoff that would be based on the 2006 storyline. 10. Bionicle: Toa Inika 2: Rise of the Toa Mahri - a sequel to the previous movie, but still a spinoff that would be based on the 2007 storyline. 11. Bionicle Untold Stories: Lesovikk - tells Lesovikk's adventures. 12. Bionicle 5 - the Toa Nuva, wearing the Adaptive Armor and having the Av-Matoran as their sidekicks, go to war against the Brotherhood of Makuta and awaken the Great Spirit Mata Nui. It's based on the 2008 storyline. 13. Bionicle Untold Stories: The Order of Mata Nui - tells the Order of Mata Nui's adventures. 14. Bionicle Untold Stories: Mazeka - based on Mazeka's adventures. 15. Bionicle Untold Stories: Federation of Fear - Bionicle's own version of Suicide Squad that is based on the Federation of Fear serial. 16. Bionicle 6 - based on the 2009 storyline, but I would also like to think that the Mask of Life had landed on Earth. 17. Bionicle 7 - Since Makuta Teridax took over the Matoran Universe, he sends the Dark Hunters, including probably Umarak, to hunt Mata Nui down. 18. Bionicle 8 - based on a script of a cancelled fifth Bionicle direct-to-video movie in 2010 19. Bionicle 9 - Mata Nui's adventures in Bota Magna, something that the cancelled sixth Bionicle direct-to-video movie could've based on. 20. Bionicle Origins: Core War - it would be based on the Core War from G1. 21. Bionicle Origins: Bara Magna - it would be about the people in Bara Magna and their adventures before Mata Nui showed up. 22. Bionicle 10 - based on the Journey's End storyline in 2010, but I would like to think that Teridax would use the gravity power of the Great Spirit to try to destroy Earth. 23. Bionicle 11 - based on the events after Journey's End, like, you know, the serials, Velika's conquest, the Red Star business, the Marander hunting, the search for the Great Beings, etc. 24. A Bionicle movie where Bionicle characters and humans are tricked by an evil villain (probably Velika or Teridax) into fighting each other. The end would be have both of the sides working together to fight the villain. 25. A movie where the Bionicle heroes travel through space and time, through the events of and traveling into G1, G2, and the cinematic movies themselves to combat a menace (probably Velika and/or Teridax) who threatens to mess the universes and events up. Heroes from all the generations would team up to do this. This movie would be to celebrate the whole Bionicle franchise's anniversary (for the first time of Bionicle's life). It would be like a mix of Turtles Forever in 2009 and Sonic Generations in 2011 when you think of it. 26. If celebrating only the Bionicle cinematic movie series' anniversary first before the one above, then it would be about the Bionicle heroes traveling traveling through time and space, into the events of the movies, to stop the evil villain from messing them up. 27. A movie about time travel. 28. A movie about Toa fighting against Tuyet, who threatens to rule the Matoran Universe. 29. A movie about two good Bionicle forces are fighting each other in a civil war, similar to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (but in a much better way) and Captain America: Civil War in 2016. For examples, Tahu v Kopaka, Jaller v Matoro, or Bionicle (some option number): Civil War. 30. A movie where Bionicle characters working together with non-Bionicle Lego characters from other Lego themes, similar to Marvel's Avengers movie in 2012. I would also like to think that there would be crossover movies where Bionicle characters fight characters from other themes. For example, Bionicle v Hero Factory (imagine Stormer from HF knowing Tahu's weakness while Tahu is more powerful than him during a fight?), Bionicle v Ninjago, and Bionicle v some replacement Constraction theme in 2017. Actors: Well, I don't want this topic to be long, but you can see my list of actors in this other topic: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/24174-what-famous-movie-celebrity-actors-would-you-like-to-play-a-bionicle-character/ . Content: If the movie is a part of the Lego Movie Cinematic Universe, it should have the same rate as the other Lego Movies. If on its own, I would like the movie to have around the same atmosphere as the Marvel movies, but no profanity words or other inappropriate Rated-R content. So, there. I know it's a lot and these sound crazy, but they are what I would like a cinematic Bionicle movie to be if there is one. What do you guys think (Note: please don't say "Bionicle couldn't do that" or "It may not be possible unless something happens". I am just talking about what would your vision of a cinematic Bionicle movie be like)?
  17. Hi, guys! You guys into dream-casting celebrities (meaning you wishing that a celebrity could play a certain character for your enjoyment)? Well, this topic would make you happy. I know that some Bionicle characters are played by TV show voice actors in their direct-to-video movies and The Journey to One show from Netflix, but we will be talking about having Bionicle characters being played by famous celebrity movie actors. These actors include ones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and The Lego Movie Cinematic Universe. Ninjago's TV show has TV actors, but the new Lego movie, coming this September, will have different actors, who are, of course, famous celebrity movie actors. So, what famous celebrity movie actor would you like to play what character (could be your favorite character)? For me, I have a bunch of ideas, but I put some asterisks point out my favorite characters. 1. Tahu* - Richard Armitage or Hugh Jackman 2. Gali - Scarlett Johansson or Evangeline Lillie 3. So, what famous movie celebrity actor would you like to play your favorite Bionicle character(s) (or more)?
  18. Okay, so I have a few Bionicle pieces or so that I'm willing to trade and what I'll trade for. Keep in mind that I do accept offers other than those listed below. Here's a basic list of what I'd like to trade for: -Red Noble Ruru -Chrome Hau -Silver Kaukau (Mata) -Golden Miru (Mata) -Infected Kanohi Hau -Pohatu Mata's Canister -2001 Kanohi Mask Pack -QftM Card Game Booster Packs (9-cards) -Blue Krana Xa Here's a list of what I'm willing to trade(images will be provided soon): -Gali Mata's Canister (w/ poster) -Black Noble Ruru (Note: this one is from the 2003 Hafu, so it is not a misprint) -Vakama's Orange Noble Huna -Nokama's Light Blue Noble Rau (w/ Head) -Matau's Kaukau Staff -Green Mata Body -Green Krana Ca -Kanoka Disks (Onu, Po, and Ko) -Jaller's Yellow Hau -White Kanohi Pakari (Mata) -Knights' Kingdom Lord Vladek (2005) set (w/ Box, may be missing an insignificant piece) [No, I did not misspell "Trade" at the end, the "e" just got cut off. Also, I apologize for how unprofessional this looks. I've just been busy lately.]
  19. Okay, so, does anyone have transparent images of kanohi? I do have some of my own, but they're only the Toa Mata and Turaga's kanohi from 2001. Honestly, I'd love to have a transparent image of the orange Pakari to do with as I please. I'm honestly not good at editing images to make them transparent. I'm aware that there are some on the BioMedia Project, but there's still a lot that are missing. if anyone can provide some that aren't already on BMP, I'd appreciate it! Also... yes, I'm probably back from the dead.
  20. Crash was my self-insert Po-Matoran OC that migrated from AU to AU. His latest iteration lived in Technorealm AU and died by sacrificing himself to save his friends. * * * If you like what I do and you want to see me create your OC, a favorite Bionicle Character, or something else, feel free to look up my Commission Info! I also now have a Patreon page, so please consider supporting!

  22. So I have been a collector of Bionicle figures since 2001. I remember getting the first Onua figure when I was a kid and loved the figures all the way up until the final set last year. With collecting them though I started creating my own story to go with my own creations. This started as just a kids idea but over the years has grown into something I am quite proud of. Ive written most of it down and have decided to finally post it and get reaction from the Bionicle community. Much of it is similar to the original story but I change quite a bit over the course of my story and add characters that never existed. I am going to post the first "Episode" here and would appreciated some feedback/critiques on it. I appreciate it all. Beginnings: Part 1 It happened in a flash. A ball of fire hurtling out of the sky. A huge explosion rattling the ground as the fireball hit the earth and hundreds of screams echoing through the forest. But this was no fireball. This was a ship, a skyship over a thousand feet long that had fallen from the sky and crashed into the ground. The screams echoing through the forest are from the hundreds of occupants of the ship who were jettisoned right before it exploded. The screams aren’t the normal ones you would hear from the survivors of a crash though. Instead of “Where is my family?” and “How did this happen?” it is “Where are we?” and “Who am I?” for the entire manifest of passengers has lost their memory. They have no idea who they are, where they are, or how they got there, and that is scarier than any crash could ever be. As the group of survivors rush away from the burning wreckage of their fallen ship a voice is heard out of the ocean of yelling. “Everyone listen! Come this way! We must stick together!” It is coming from one of the passengers. He doesn’t know why he felt as though he needed to lead them, it was just an inner urge he had, but he must try and make sure not to lose anyone in the dark forest that surrounds them now. He doesn’t look like the others either. He has more of a weathered and wise look to him, but his voice carries far and the ones near him follow. Soon the entire mass of people are following him away from the crash and into a nearby clearing. As they walk he is joined by another who looks similar to him, weathered and with an air of wisdom, but a different color. In fact he has noticed that everyone seems to be colored a total of six different ways. As they reach the clearing the crowd begins again with pleas for answers. They expect this one who led them away from the dangers of the crash to know something they don’t. Unfortunately, he does not. Like everyone else in the clearing he has no idea who they are or where they are. He cannot even recall his own name. “I know you wish for answers!” He says to the confused and worried crowd. “But I have none. I just feel as though we are safer together then apart in this forest we know nothing about!” The crowd becomes more restless and the question of who they are becomes more prevalent. “We know not who we are!” The other one who looks similar to him says. “But we do know we all came from that ship!” He points to the wreckage. “That much is certain. Now we need to find shelter until morning then we can try to sort everything out!” This other one like him is a born leader too. As the crowd begins to calm down and attempt to create shelter and some sort of comfort out in this forest the one who led them out of the forest looks around at everyone there. The differences he noticed about them become more prevalent in the light of fire. They are colored six different ways black, blue, white, brown, green, and red. He is red and the other one who helped him calm the crowd is colored brown. Without a name to call himself he just decides to refer to himself as Red for now. Red walks over to Brown and thanks him for helping calm down the crowd. “Don’t mention it, it was no problem. I just felt like I should, ya know?” Brown says. “I do know.” Red responds. “That’s why I led us over here. I felt an inner urge to keep everyone together.” He says. “I feel the same way. Safer together than out there alone.” Brown responds. The next morning four others similar to Red and Brown come over to them. White, Blue, Green, and Black they decide to call themselves for the time being. They have each been talking to others of their color and they all feel like they were on that ship for a reason, but no one can remember why. “We need to find a better place to protect ourselves.” Black says. “Yes, and we need to try and find out who we are soon and where we are.” White adds in. “Agreed, but where do we start?” Asks Green. “Maybe we should head there.” Blue suggests as she points towards an enormous mountain to the northeast of them. “No…I think we should head west.” Red suggests. “Why?” Asks Brown. “I am not sure.” Red starts. “But I feel as though what we need most now is answers and I have a feeling they are towards the west.” The others don’t argue with Red and they all agree to head west, hoping that will lead them to some answers. As they walk through the forest the six leaders get a chance to talk to one another. They too have all noticed the color differences in them. They all have personality differences as well. The black members seem to be much larger and stronger than the others there while the brown ones are faster and the green ones seem to know their way around the forest better than any of the others. “Yeah, I and the others of my color can see in the pitch-black darkness too.” Black tells the others. “Strange.” White says. “We each seem to be adapted to different things.” White and the others of her color have impeccable memories, able to remember every step they have taken. Which increases their curiosity of how they all lost their memories and ended up on that ship. A rustle in a nearby tree startles them though and they all stop, trying to see what it could have been. All of a sudden, a huge lizard-like creature eight feet long, twice that of even the tallest among them, jumps out of the trees and roars so loud is echoes through the entire forest. Its massive razor-like teeth are bared and the six leaders and the crowd of hundreds behind them know not what to do here. In a flash the creature is gone. It jumps into the trees and disappears without a trace. The leaders are dumbfounded. How could a creature that big…just vanish? Then it appears again in front of them out of thin air. “It can camouflage itself!” Blue yells to the others. “Watch the ground!” and just like that the creature is gone. Except this time then don’t just hear the footsteps or growls of one, but what seems like five or ten. “Huddle together and watch the ground! It can’t hide its tracks!” Green cries to the others there. For a moment, everything becomes calm. The growls stop and one of the red survivors breathes a sigh of relief, but then it is lost. Seven of the large reptilian creatures uncloak and jump at the mass huddle of survivors. The green ones try to hold the creatures back with the spears they fashioned themselves the previous night, but it is not enough. The spears are shattered into splinters as one creature grabs a blue survivor by the arm and attempts to drag it off. Three of the black survivors pick up rocks and hurl them at the lizard with incredible strength and accuracy and the beast lets go, running back into the forest with a bruised eye. As the blue survivor falls the mask that was on his face falls off and he slumps over unconscious. The three black survivors that helped him, pick him and the mask up and pull him back into the huddle. As the green survivors use their spears and the black ones hurtle rocks at the creatures the unconscious blue member is brought over to the leaders. “We can’t wake him up!” One of the black ones that helped rescue him says. “Let me see him.” Blue asks and they lay him down in front of her. As if by instinct she picks up the mask, examines it, and then places it back on to the unconscious survivor’s face. In an instant his eyes open and he sits up, groggy, but ok. The rest of the leaders yell to the survivors not to let their masks fall off and to work as a team to fend off the creatures. At once the other colored survivors start picking up anything they can and begin pelting it at their reptilian attackers. As the last of the lizard creatures hisses at them and runs off into the forest everyone calms down a bit, but still ready to pummel another creature should it attack them as they hear a louder roar in the forest. “We have got to get out of this forest.” Black exclaims to the others. “Agreed, but I truly believe what we seek is just a bit further this way.” Red responds. The other leaders are more skeptical now of Red’s hunch to go west, but with no better alternative they continue on, a bit more cautious now than they were before. As they continue on they end up coming to a large clearing of which a large river passes by. Over this river is a large metal bridge and on the other side of this bridge lay the largest gateway any of them has ever seen, even though they don’t remember seeing any other. That is not what stops them though. For behind this gateway is a massive city with metal spires that travel hundreds of feet into the air. A twenty-foot wall surrounds the city and Red and the other leaders feel as though this is what they have been searching for all along. As they head towards the city and cross the bridge a question comes into all of their minds. “How are they going to get through that gate?” Red and the other leaders walk up to it and instinctively, as if guided by an unknown hand, they all touch the gate. At once light begins to appear from under their hands. Red, green, blue, black, white, and brown lights travel over the gates surface to a point in the middle. They circle around for a moment and then they all hear a voice. “Welcome home.” The voice startles them. Red looks around and sees no one. “Who are you?” He asks. “I am Archive.” The voice begins. “I am the computer program that runs the city of Æthon.” “Do you know who we are?” White asks. “Yes. You are the Matoran. The chosen people of Mata nui.” Matoran? They are called the Matoran! “Please come inside.” Archive beckons as the gates open. “There is much to tell you.” “They survived!?” A dark voice says as its rage echoes through a darkened hallway. “No matter.” The shadowy figure says as he walks into a cavern. “My new minions will make short work of them soon enough.” As the figure stops talking clicking and screeching is heard as a thousand red eyes open, awakened from their slumber.
