Gold, Silver, and...Exidian?

Recommended Posts

So...is there an element that would be able to control exidian?

I realize that the element existed in SM and may not have existed at all in the MU, however does that mean no Toa could control or manipulate exidian? Or would Fe-Toa have the ability to manipulate exidian as pretty much Toa of all metal?

I'm assuming that Fe-Toa must be able to control exidian since...well I assumed that Fe beings control metal in general including gold, silver, iron, quartz (assuming that the White Quartz Mountains are making reference to canon elemental quartz), etc. However before I asked the Expanded Universe people about where exidian stands on their elemental tables I wanted to bring the question to the canon department first.

So, where does exidian stand? And for that matter, gold, silver, etc?

Exidian is special I suppose since it's a fake element that is only confirmed to exist in SM, but the question is still there as to who can control gold and silver, since we've seen golden and silvery armor and metals in the MU before.

So...go go canon question?

Interesting question. I think Exidian was described as a metal, or at least metallic, so Iron should be able to control it. Gold and silver are types of metal, and since Iron is just a more fun name of an element that covers all metals, I would say yes, it can control them, too.

Quartz is a stone though.

*Facepalm*

Yeah, you're right. I suppose stone would recieve it then? Along with gems too I guess, if there were any...

The white quartz mountains are not made of Quartz, they are made out of ice but assuming it looks like Quartz.

But assuming that they are named after the stone, and not just arbitrarily happening to have the same name as the stone, then quartz must exist, so I would still have the question of who could manipulate it? Though it's certainly looking like stone would.

Would you kindly provide a quote on that? Is it not possible that the mountains were ice-covered quartz?

A search through the Greg Dialogues didn't come up with much, except for this bit of trivia:

1) The coin found by Berix is described to be forged from a metal mined to the north. Is this Exsidian from the White Quartz Mountains, or the Iron of the Iron Tribe in Bota Magna?

1) Would make more sense for it to be the WQ's, since it relates to something in northern Bara Magna

1) So to confirm, it's an Exsidian coin?

1) Yup

We already know that Exsidian was in the White Quartz mountains. But Berix's coin doesn't look like quartz. So either there were both quartz and exsidian in the mountains, or there was just exsidian and quartz was a misnomer, I think.

T1S is right, I don't know if even exists a mono mineral mountain on Earth, that would be very rare.

You can have acumulation of elements with igneous, metamorfic and sedimentary processes, yes, but the scale of that processes would be insane to make mountains of just one mineral.

Probably the mountains were just granites with fractures refilled with a Exidian-rich hydrothermal fluids. (Hydrothermal breccia)

(I can't find a very good picture, sorry for the bad election of minerals but the colors are more explanatories)

Sorry if my English is bad.

And... Well, you can't expect geology-accuracy in Bionicle *cofcofSpherusMagnacofcof*

When it comes to elements on other worlds with other cultures, you have to consider the fact that we don't know that they have knowledge of all of the elements that we do. Just because the Great Beings have the resources to build a giant robot, they might not even have a particle accelerator. If you compared a periodic table made up of elements known on Spherus Magna and elements known here on Earth, the one from Spherus Magna would be a lot different. For all we know, protodermis may just be a compound of all of the inert elements, or a group of compounds.

Exsidian is metal. If any Toa were to control it, I'd say it's the brand of Toa that, well, control metal.

Quartz is either rock - and thus the element of Stone - or it's classified as some sort of crystal which no one controls. I'd have no problems with that. I feel that not everything needs a Toa, and gems - being either rare or having effects such as heat or light - are one of those things.

Crystals and gems are usually found in caves, so as a kid I always assumed that Earth could control crystals. Not sure where I stand now, however.

No, Earth controls dirt; particles (non-metallic) smaller than grains of sand. Crystals are larger, ergo not Earth.

Actually, I wonder if in G2 it's the other way around. We haven't seen Onua's earth powers yet, but his environment is full of large particles like crystals and solid rocks. And of course, he "was tunneling through solid rock." Whereas Pohatu has so far only used his power on sand.

Yeah, I mentioned that possibility in my Findings topic.

On the other hand, Gen 1 Onua, being naturally strong, plus aided by Pakari, and claw hands, could do that too. If slowly.
