Ten Leaping Lords For All!

Leaping for joy at the events that transpired down on Poydras Street last night. Fist pumping as well.   Well, the bowl pool picture is a lot clearer, for me now anyway... The possible outcomes: Result: I come away empty-handed.  Result: Third place outright.  Result: I force a tie for second & third place with the CEO of the company, Jimmie Martinez.  Result: I win second place outright.  Result: Yours truly wins the closest bowl pool in recent memory.  Oh, and Nick Saban is s

Nine Dancing Ladies For All!

In the context of physical activity, sheesh. Get your minds out of the gutter.   204¾ lb., 24.9% body fat   EDITED IN: OBLIGIATORY COMMENTS ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA-TUSCALOOSA FOOTBALL PROGRAM Nicholas Saban is a turncoat to the nth degree. Leaving one program 12 months after its first national championship in 45 years, 2 weeks after saying the exact opposite, and then returning to the same division in the same conference a mere 24 months later, one can only hope he is already bracing

Eight Chocolate-covered Caramels For All!

Wait, those are Milk Duds, not milk maids...   This entry could be subtitled: a chocolate hat for Chocolate City.   This year's haul: $3000 in Christmas bonuses. A $90 (guessing) Christmas dinner I let spoil in the trunk of my car (the pecan pie and two bottles of wine were salvaged) A Crock-Pot slow cooker A 4-quart Teflon™-coated pot. as many navel oranges as I cared to eat for a fortnight at work (Don't ask how many were eventually thrown out.) $25 gift card to Academy (the sports store, no

Seven Swimming Swans For All!

Ooweeee, I leave for a weekend and my blog gets buried.   Well, my bowl picks haven't panned out that well, but they've been only marginally worse than my weekend. Some highlights.   FRIDAY: >I get confronted by one of the tenants on the ground floor, saying the manner in which I go down the stairs is a bunch of words that would get ######ed out. What's more, if I ever do it again, he and I are going to have an adult discussion about it in the street. In other words, he's going to beat t

Pairs Of Turtledoves For All!

To further enforce this astandard holiday celebration, I offer another bit of KIE's E-Mail™....again, still not really trademarked. Yep, just a link this time. GMan, this is for you and any other kitten-loving BZPer.     Tommy's appears to be the UK equivalent of the March of Dimes, a worthy charity in its own right. I think it's funny, so I'm posting it.     -KIE, who is fading fast in the office bowl pool at work, now in a 5-way tie for fourth.

Partridges In Pear Trees For All!

That's today, by the way.   "What?" you say. "Christmas is December 25!"   While the date is correct, today is the first day of the Twelve Days of Christmas, the stretch of time from Christmas (yesterday) to Epiphany (January 6). Without delving too deep into religion (those that do celebrate Epiphany aren't even my own), Epiphany commemorates, I THINK (don't quote me on this), the advent of the deity of Christ.   Myself, I believe Jesus was born 100% God and 100% man, thus making the Epipha

Sunny With A High Of 75°

As appealing as the Relient K diddy sounds to some this time of year, it really has no business being the weather for December 23. At least not in the Northern Hemisphere. But wouldn't you know it, today's forecast for New Orleans is almost shorts weather: lots of sun and 66° F (19° C).   So, to try and elicit some yuletide cheer, I bring you More Of KIE's E-Mail™ ...not that I actually have that trademarked or anything....   -KIE, who is 3-0 with his college bowl picks

Solstice

Republished with an edit.   Winter arrives in the Big Easy with a veritable deluge. *grabs the bottom blades of the blinds in his office window (behind his computer monitor), and pulls them down to check outside*   Oh, that is SO not funny. I was late for work because of the rain, and now the rain has quit, less than an hour later.   Anyway, 3" (7½ cm) of rain over the past 24 hours, might be just as well that it'd slack off.   ......   I'm not quite as confident about my picks as I was la

Over It.

Yep. Confirmed it for me.   I want to post a quick reply specifically to ChocolateFrogs: I don't have any MOCs (outside of my BrickFest badge) to post, for three reasons. 1) I'm missing a good chunk of MOCcable pieces: outside of 3 8556 sets and a pair of Nui-Jaga, most of what I have are loose Kanohi. That, and the color selection in 2002 was rather limited. 2) I lack the creativity to MOC. I like to construct the sets, but I can barely embellish here and there, like the half-pin on the bac

No Sense In Reading This Tripe

No seriously. You, BZP, have spoken. And my blog is more dated than the 19th century.   Thursday morning: 4.6 out of 5, 27 votes Friday morning: 4.4 out of 5, 28 votes.... mathematically, this could only have been from a 1-star rating Saturday night: 4.3 out of 5, 29 votes.... again, this could have only been from another 1-star rating   .....   I never realized what I offered was so, very, lame. So, very, bad.   Do I use too many words? Do I not volunteer for questions or something? What

Bonus!

I don't know how it is at your/your parents' offices, but down here, it's the Christmas season. And that means gifts. Not inter-person, but inter-company.   Oh sure, there's cards and all. But a week ago today, there were two large baskets filled with everything necessary for a spaghetti dinner (pasta, EVOO, marinara, real parmesan cheese, and a bottle of merlot), from Parson Sanderson, a company that sells sewer pumps. Unfortunately, there were only two, and my name wasn't on either of them.

The Politics Of The Coffee Pot

That coffee discussion I mentioned yesterday? It's become the "Chicory Conflict," and is in danger of escalating into "Coffee Wars 2007".   DEII has purchased, or leased or something, a couple of commercial coffee-makers, to replace the coffee pots & coffee makers we seem to go through. One of the neat features of the new coffee makers is the multiple Thermos-style coffee pots, allowing different brews to be hot simultaneously. You've probably seen these things at the continental breakfast

Holiday Traditions

There are some things that are required for Christmas in Louisiana.   Hot weather: Today's high in greater New Orleans is 71° F (22° C). And there doesn't appear to be another arctic front on the horizon until the weekend. Who knows.   Tree trimmings: Not necessarily spanish moss garland. I borrowed some surplus ornament hooks just now at work, and will hang most of the 32 miniature blue glass balls I bought over the weekend. Small tree requires small lights and small ornamentation. And it's n

The Saints Are Coming

42-17 God help me, I'm going to become a Saints fan. Again.   WHO DAT?   WHO DAT?   WHO DAT SAY DEY GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS?     I could say something about the Second Congressional race in Louisana: Karen Carter failed to unseat William Jefferson. And that doesn't make me happy. But, over the course of the runoff, Karen Carter's position on a lot of Louisiana-specific issues (including off-shore oil royalties) were shown to be very anti-Louisiana.   A crook or a wrecker. Lesser of two evil

I Need A Tivo

Really. Must Cartoon Network put anime AFTER Futurama/Family Guy? I can't function on 5½ hours of sleep during the week.   At least I'm seeing the end of the GITS:SAC 2nd Gig. When I'm not sleeping through it, that is.     -KIE, who wants Saturday to be the day. Really.

Delicious Genius

I'm not posting my weight, if only to say it's too much.   Right outside my office door, on the counter across the hallway is the coffeemaker. There is both significance and irony in that fact. The significance is that there is often congregation outside my door. The irony is that I do not drink coffee. I don't know...something about coffee beans has never stroked my taste buds well. Nasal passages, sure: I can appreciate the aroma. But I've never acquired a taste for it, and caffeine just d

Charlie Brown Redux

The Cruisers lost to the Titans, but every other game the Titans needed went the other way, so the playoff field has been pared down anyway. Wrapping up in Kenner next week against the playoff-bound Kastrators. My bench outscored both our starters, so apparently I don't know what I'm doing.   Yesterday (Saturday) was supposed to be a day that Stuff Got Done. I drove up to Baton Rouge to visit for a little bit with Michael & Brandy, wrap my gift for my mom, discuss the gift for my dad, and p

My Brother, The Scrooge

Well, not scrooge per se, but definite spoil sport.   Although, I think it might have been Brandy's (his wife, my sister-in-law) fault.   Okay, Tuesday night I bought a couple of ½-gig flash drives at Target. (Bink, whatever sale you mentioned must be an Oregon thing, because there was nothing that sniffed of it in Metairie.) I figured one for me, for whenever I get around to moving files onto a new computer, and one for Michael, as a Christmas present. $30 each, I think is a decent price for

And Now, The Deluge

No really, the skies just opened up here in Kenner. It'd been overcast for the past few days, and very mild. I hear it's snowed in San Antonio, and sleet has shut down Dallas. (How ya doin' up there, 'raga?)   Spent most of the day playing hooky from work. Ultima Online helps pass the time waiting for the cable guy to arrive 4 hours late.   But now I can watch the TV I got three months ago. While getting stuff done on UO was fun, that cut into my bonus check (which is basically my unused vacat

Something Worth Playing For

Funny email!   I must preface this by saying that, when I attended graduate school for one semester at the University of Akron, I had aspirations of getting a Ph.D. I still do, but that's a long ways away from me now. One of the requirements for a doctorate (at U of A, at least) is the ability to speak a second language. While I am functionally bilingual in my own right (Je parle le bien français!), they meant a research language, since my study has nothing to do with language itself. I see

I have a new computer here at work. My old one had files dating to 1999. That should speak to how badly it'd been patchworked, so I shall say no more. Though I will say my boss's boss wants it kept for some reason.   The Moss Bluff Cruisers were eliminated from playoff contention yesterday afternoon, as they lost their home finale to the Harvey Hooligans, and the Kenner Kastrators knocked off the Monte Carlo Mudhens. At 5-7, I've got nothing but pride to play for, and the prospects of bette

Tryptophantic Advent

I'm going home tonight, and don't look to be back until Saturday or Sunday. So, I'll leave you all with a very long, but truly fascinating article that just came in my email, for you all to discuss, of course.   I do care about my rating, by the way, and I'm not happy about people torpedoing it: I've gone from 4.7 to 4.4 to 4.6 to 4.5 right now: if my blog is that bad, please tell me via PM what's wrong with it before bludgeoning the rating.   -KIE

Listing

No, I'm not compiling a bulletted set of points. Listing is what the Cruisers season is doing.   I left 3 touchdowns and 14 points in Josh Scobee on the bench, to fall miserably to the Metairie Mudbugs. At 5-6, any hope of the playoffs is on life support. 2 games out with 5 to play has become 2 games out with 3 to play, and I can't say I have much confidence this week, hosting the Harvey Hooligans. The Hooligans are a dead team: the owner hasn't checked the team in a month. However, with Tom

All Hands On Deck

Week 11. Time for the final push in Fantasy Football.   The Moss Bluff Cruisers are coming off a debilitating 88-52 loss at the hands, er, hooves of the Poplarville Stallions. Now tied with the Stallions at 5-5, the Cruisers are mercifully only two games behind the Kenner Kastrators, thanks to an upset turned by the Touchdown Titans the same weekend.   But the hopes of a losing streak in Kenner do little to dispel the bleak outlook for the Cruisers, as week 10 also saw the end of the season f
