About this blog

Words we often so desperately want to say, but leave unspoken, for one reason or another, for fears rational and irrational, whether it makes sense or not.

A Serious Question

In the BIONICLE Canon, both G1 and G2, do the bonkles actually have the gears on their back that turn their arms/waist, and if so, can they be turned by other bonkles?

Something a bit concerning about G2

I just got the LEGO Catalogue in the mail, and in it, only half of the 2016 Wave One sets are represented.   Pohatu, Tahu, Kopaka & Melum, Umarak, Ketar, and Ikir are the only ones shown in the catalogue. Lewa, Uxar, Onua, Terak, Gali, and Akida are missing.   I'm not sure what this says except I find it worrying for some reason.   Also, apparently Umarak 'Stands over 28cm tall!' and the three toa displayed stand in the area of 21-23cm tall. Sounds like when I bought Umarak the other day, i

LEGO Shop G2 Wave 1 sale

For those interested, it seems both in the UK and the US versions of the LEGO shop, the wave 1 sets are on sale, around 25% off for the smaller Toa and Protectos and around 30% off for the larger Toa. Tahu (Master) appears to be out of stock in the US, however.   Also, here in the UK, the cheaper prices for this wave's smaller Toa and creatures have stuck. Which is nice.

December 31st, 2015.

In less than 24 hours (well, where I am, anyway), it will be 2016. Not just any 2016, the year 2016. The year that comes after 2015, if you're bad at counting. Or maybe before, if you're time travelling backwards in time. Or maybe things will go wrong very badly and we'll skip straight to 2017. Now that'd be weird.   I wonder how 2015 will end. Probably the same as any other year. But let's hope 2015 doesn't end by the year gaining sentience and declaring war on the passage of time because it wa

LEGO Dimensions

I'm not the only one who cringes when they hear or see LEGO Dimensions, right?   It all seems really, really awkward. You've got this kids' building toy and then you have some really, really weird and absolutely bizarre choices in terms of licensed IPs, several of which don't even have their own themes yet/ever, and some of which are arguably a bit on the inappropriate side (like the Simpsons). Some are like 30 years old (Back to the Future, Ghostbusters). One is even in competition as it's anot

Weird Pricing III: Revenge of the Pricing

So, the six creatures and other two smaller Toa have been added to the UK LEGO Shop by now.   Gali has remained at £9.99. Pohatu and Lewa are both at the price.   The Creatures? They're all £6.99, with between 74-89 pieces each (exception: Akida, has 120 pieces).   The Protectors were £9.99, for between 60-80 pieces each.   There's been what's basically a 25%-30% reduction on price for the small sets and the smaller Toa in the UK (Tahu, Onua, Umarak remain at £14.99. K+M are £19.99).   I guess

Weird Pricing II

Now the online LEGO shop's added Gali and Tahu as coming soon. Tahu, as expected, is £14.99, same as last year.   But Gali? Gali's £9.99. That's the same price as the Protectors this year.... oh, and she has the same amount of pieces as she did this year. 87. 87 pieces at £12.99 this year, 87 pieces at £9.99 next year.   I was expecting the creatures to be £9.99 and Gali to be £12.99, but... are the creatures going to be the same price or what?   It's probably just a pricing error. But before cr

Weird Pricing

I just checked LEGO's online shop and I have to say, I was honestly not expecting Umarak to be the same price as Onua and (presumably) Tahu at £14.99 considering he has 172 pieces.   Kopaka and Melum, on the other hand, are £19.99 and have 171 pieces. It's clear who has the better price/part ratio here. Onua has 143 pieces at £14.99. The other sets aren't on the UK LEGO Shop at the moment, but it seems weird the sets have more pieces and yet remained the same price.   I might as well post my gen

So, uh...

Those 2016 creature-Toa unity things, how exactly do they unify in-universe...? I can't image the Toa and creatures have pegs sticking out of their backs and the creatures having random holes in their bodies.   How exactly doe Ikir support the weight of Tahu? Shouldn't Tahu fall down to his untimely death?   And who goes up to a giant scorpion and goes 'Yes, I want to unify with that and have it on my back!'   Assumption: The 2016 story is about the dangers of unifying with random creatures an

WARNING: VERY BAD PUNS < NOT LYING < ACTUALLY VERY BAD PUNS

Continuing off of the last extremely bad pun...   What do you call BIONICLE On Ice? Cryonicle (alternatively - a crying bionicle character)   What do you call a BIONICLE-flavoured pie? A Pieonicle   What do you call a BIONICLE wearing a tie? A Tieonicle   What do you call a lying, backstabbing BIONICLE character? A Lieonicle   What do you call someone in the comments who asks why I'm making bad bionicle puns? A Whyonicle   What do you call a cordial BIONICLE greeting? A Hionicle   What do you ca

Warning: Terrible Pun Ahead

Terrible Pun Ahead If you hate bad puns, do not go further Seeing as you got this far even with three warnings, please don't complain. You know, Matoro, all Makuta except Miserix, Lhikan, Sidorak, and countless other characters who died that I can't really remember aren't really in the spirit of BIONICLE. They're more in the spirit of DIEONICLE. Because they all died. THAT WAS TERRIBLE

Thoughts on LEGO Universe

Out of the blue, I started thinking about the now defunct LEGO MMO LEGO Universe. And the more I think about, the more disappointing it seems that it got closed and that it was a MMO.   I think that game could have worked, with a longer life, if it were not a MMO but rather a 4-player Co-op somewhat open-world LEGO game, with or without online capabilities. That is pretty much the maximum amount of people you could go into the minigames/psuedobossfights with.   Also: no subscription fee - beca

Drained Masks

I've a question for those of you with the drained masks that come with the Skull Skeletons, the gold/transparent colour blended ones.   How much of a single mask is gold and how much of that same mask is transparent, for each of them?   My drained Mask of Jungle is only really gold on the bottom 'jaw' piece and in between the eye holes , the rest of it is transparent green.   The drained Mask of Earth I have, on the other hand, is only transparent purple above the eye holes - below them, it's go

BIONICLE GENERATION TWO GENERATION TWO

I've got a question for those of you more acquainted with physics, and also the lack of them:   Would wings made out of fire work?   Are giant antlers on your head practical?   Where can you find the wild Ikir phoenixes of Okoto? (asking for a friend, I think their name is U. Marak)   Did the skeletons in the ancient city evolve from the inhabitants of Okoto or did the inhabitants of Okoto evolve from them?   Where did Tahu get all that gold from?

The Fifth of November

Remember, remember, the fifth of November... don't get dismembered. It doesn't go that way but dismember rhymes with remember and November so why not?   North Americans, I've got a question, how many people with horrible facial hair are wearing guy fawkes masks today and do they realise we burn effigies of that person this night every year? (We also burn effigies of other people but let's not go there because it will end badly if we do.)
