Chapter 9: Desert of Sorrows

Cutscene: Atero

Onua squinted his eyes against the sun.

“I don't know how your Po-Matoran stand it,” he grunted. “It's so hot out here in the light!”

“Maybe that's because we're in a desert,” Pohatu chuckled. “Still, it's not Po-Wahi... that's for sure.”

“Hmm. Certainly not Po-Wahi,” Onua nodded, “for Po-Wahi was never strewn with ruins.”

“What?” Pohatu asked, following Onua's gaze. Indeed, at the Toa of Earth's feet rested a cracked stone structure, with writing engraved in it.

“That's no language that I know of, but I seem to be able to read it,” Onua continued. “It says, 'A'...'T'... 'E', 'R', 'O'. What's 'ATERO'?”

“Dunno,” Pohatu shrugged. “Let's look around... see if there are any clues.”

They searched for a few minutes, burning in the red-hot sun. Suddenly, Onua gave a cry of shock.

“What is it, brother?” Pohatu asked, running to Onua's side. The Toa of Earth was staring down at something thin and bleached-white. With a surge of nausea, Pohatu recognized it as a skeleton.

“What kind of a skeleton is this?” he asked. “The proportions are all wrong... it's not a Matoran, it's definitely shaped more like a Toa. Well, Lewa or Tahu, that is. But it's the wrong size... and it's got nostrils, like some sort of Rahi...”

“It's an alien,” Onua grunted. “That's the only solution. We're on another world, and we're in the middle of a dead desert.”

Pohatu looked around. Indeed, the air was stale, the sand too scratchy, and the sun too ferocious. The rocks were sinister... ruins were scattered everywhere, the ruins of a city... and so were the alien skeletons.

“What happened here?” Pohatu asked.

“How should I know?” Onua frowned. “But if I catch up with the alien monster that did this...”

“Good for you,” a gruff voice said from behind them, “you just did.”

Cutscene: Lord of the Skrall

Both Toa whirled, to see a tall, black-armored being, wielding a broadsword and shield. Some crude launcher was strapped to his belt, and there were flashes of green in his scratched, rusted armor.

“Makuta?!” Pohatu bellowed. “What are you doing here?”

The being laughed – a horrible, rasping sound. “I am not the Lord of Shadows, Toa fools. I am only his servant... but one to be feared. For I am the mighty Tuma, , last of the Skrall Lords, and leader of the Rock Tribe!”

“Well, I am Pohatu, Kolhii Champion of Po-Koro, Toa guardian of Mata Nui, and wielder of Stone!” the brown Toa bellowed.

“And I am Onua, Wisest of the Toa, wielder of Earth,” the black Toa said. “You would be wise not to challenge us. We have bested your master, and we shall again!”

“The Makuta has not met you,” Tuma frowned. “He knows of you, for sure – your are two of the Toa Mata, a fabled Toa Team sworn to protect his weakling brother, Mata Nui. But he has never fought you. You have not woken, for you are not needed.”

Onua was confused – a happening unheard of until now. “How do you know of the Makuta, anyway?” he asked. “And why are we unneeded? Even now, Mata Nui lies in slumber, struck down by the Makuta himself. It is our sworn destiny to awaken him, the Great Spirit, and you stand in our way. Prepare to be cast aside.”

“Good luck with that,” Tuma sneered, tensing for battle.

*insert standard brawl: Pohatu and Onua versus Tuma in a two-stock battle.*

Cutscene: Tuma's Escape

The Skrall Lord staggered back, wounded from Onua's savage attack. Pohatu charged forth to strike at him, but the ebon-armored titan simply sneered and raised a curious device in his hand. With the press of a button, he had disappeared from the scene, leaving Pohatu to smash headlong into a boulder.

“Oof,” the Toa of Stone grunted, collapsing into the sand. “Now where's he gotten to? Is this some trick of Makuta's?”

“I think not,” Onua frowned, “more like alien technology. But let us continue onwards; it is vital to right the wrongs here and return to the island of Mata Nui.”

*insert level: The Desert. New enemies: Vorox, Zesk, Sand Bat (miniboss). Oh, and how's this for music?*

*no ending cutscene*

*STAGE CLEAR reward: none*

Chapter 12?

Cutscene: An unexpected detour

Onua: We need to find Tuma, perhaps he will have answers for us on this alien world. Maybe we can leave this place as well, I quite dislike it here.

Pohatu: Is the sun getting to you Onua?

Onua: Lets just get moving.

*Onua and Pohatu begin running across the desert after a few seconds of sustained running a portal suddenly opens up in the ground Onua stops but Pohatu has yet to catch up*

Onua: Whoa!

Pohatu: what is it brother?

Onua: Stop running! Look out!

*Pohatu collides with Onua and they both fall into the portal*

Cutscene: Unexpected resistance

*Both toa fall from the sky to the ground, reminiscent of their entrance to Teridax’s cave*

Onua: For the love of Mata-Nui…..

Pohatu: Ugh, we have got to stop making entrances like this, not on is it bad for our health but it is not exactly stealthy either….

*several enemies previously fought appear all around, Multiman brawl begins*

Cutscene: Welcome to Odina [NOTE: It would be very easy to make cameos here on Odina because we could be very flexible with appearances of Generic Dark Hunters]

*An armor clad being runs towards the toa*

Generic Dark Hunter: State your business on Odina.

Onua: We recently fell from that portal up there*points up*, I am Onua and this is Pohatu.

Pohatu: Surely you have had problems with these things lately.

Generic Dark Hunter: We have toa, *grins* be glad we recently allied with The Order or I would have killed you both.

Pohatu: Killed us?!

Generic Dark Hunter: Yes, you two of all beings must know of this place…*scowls*…although you look rather different from what I have heard…

*several other portals open, spewing out enemies of all kinds[Enemies will be decided by someone else]

Generic Dark Hunter: Here we go again….

Onua: Brother look! The portal is closing!

Pohatu: Oh no…we have to get out of here!

*Level start, you have a time limit to get to the portal, jump from platform to platform facing resistance all the way*

Cutscene: Leaving so soon?

*Pohatu climbs into the portal Onua is about to follow when the Generic Dark Hunter intervenes*

Generic Dark Hunter: Toa, catch!

*Onua turns in time to catch a small device*

Onua; What is this?

Generic Dark Hunter: It is a device I stole from one of our friends over there, but I recalibrated it to open a portal like the one up there that will lead to Odina, so you can come back here any time. So if you need any assistance just start it up.

Pohatu: Onua? The portal is closing….

Onua: Thank you Hunter, I would wager that I will see you soon…

*Onua climbs into portal and the level ends*

Level clear

No reward

Since this game is going to be heavily DLC based, down the line, after it has been released, we are going to make a DLC sequel story line, a new story campaign with new characters, locations, and all sorts of stuffs. Weare also all going to have one of our own characters be in the story. Mine is Redge.

Oh cool, is that the one that Talos is in?

You know I was thinking that maybe we should get the core game down, you know be able to brawl and stuff and then release the campaign in a DLC along with a lot of the characters in it like Tuma and Vakama. Just another one of my idle useless thoughts though so...

Actually, I think I'm going to redo my cameo, so as not to be directly copy-pasting a Weeping Angel in here.

Direct copy and paste? In the rough chapter I did I just made up some crazy humanoid made of stone with wings and then made references with your name, if that is what you think is a direct copy and paste then I just got super lucky.

Well, technically you didn't, as the Weeping Angels are psychopaths older than time who would never ally with the Dark Hunters in any case... but still. XD

Chapter rewritten.

Chapter 21: Recovery

Cutscene: The Hunter Awakes

Pohatu sighed. It seemed like an eternity to him since Talos had collapsed. It didn't help that the Hunters seemed to be in a Toa-hunting mood. He had to duck out of sight every time one strolled by. Eventually, he snapped.

"For Mata Nui's sake, wake up already!" he yelled. "Onua is still trapped on that alien planet and so far all you've done is sleep!"

Suddenly, Talos's eyes flickered open and he leapt up, causing Pohatu to yelp in fright.

"Mata Nui! You could have given me a warning," the Toa wheezed.

Ignoring him, Talos plucked the strange device he'd given Onua from Pohatu's belt.

"Hey-!" the Toa began, but stopped as Talos began to fiddle with the dials.

"With a slight recalibration…" the Dark Hunter muttered, turning the knob until the small screen flashed "LAST LOCATION", "we can open a portal right back to…"

There was a thunderous boom, and the two were unceremoniously thrown onto a prison cell floor.

"What in the--?!" Onua yelled, but quickly recognized Pohatu.

"Brother… is it truly you? Not some mockery of Makuta's?" the Toa of Earth whispered.

"It is I," Pohatu grinned. "So far, our rescue mission seems to be going pretty smoothly."

"Break these shackles," Onua grimaced. "They're blocking my elemental powers."

Talos obliged. He then proceeded to kick down the heavy door, crushing a Skrall platoon on the other side.

"Let's get out of here," Talos said. "The wormhole device needs time to charge, so we've got to get to a calm place and wait."

"That's what my cell was until a few minutes ago when you broke the door," Onua said.

"I don't need your commentary," the Dark Hunter snarled. "Let's go."

*insert level: Prison. Playable characters: Onua, Pohatu, Talos. New enemies: Skrall warden.*

Cutscene: Escape from Atero

The three hurtled out of the ruined city, a newly-made wall of rubble keeping the enemies at bay.

"I think we lost them," Talos panted once they'd covered an enormous amount of ground. He began to examine the mutation bomb and the wormhole device.

"If I can wire these together…" he muttered.

"Why? What will that do?" Pohatu asked.

"Nuke all the bad guys and make a pretty pony for us all to play with," Talos replied sarcastically. "No, it'll just figure out where these bombs come from and open a portal to that location. Give it time, though…. arrgh, stupid system's not compatible! Looks like I'll have to do it the hard way…"

A portal snapped open, and a squadron of guards fell out. "There they are!" one cried.

"Ugh…" Pohatu grimaced.

"You're telling me?" Onua said.

"Hold them off!" Talos commanded.

"Yeah, we were thinking about doing that," Pohatu snapped back.

*insert multilane brawl. Playable characters: Onua, Pohatu.*

Cutscene: Escape

"That's it!" Talos cried, and a portal split the air in front of the heroes.

"Don't let them escape!" a maddened Skrall shrieked, but they had already disappeared and the portal closed behind them.

*STAGE CLEARED reward: None.*

I like the chapter. But when Talos broke Onua's shackles and broke down the door he was using his control over metal, but I guess its fine since he never uses it in game.

Should I start working on something else? cause they are all at the lab like you asked....and now I have nothing to do.

Nah. I don't think that we should make people have to download the story campaign seperatly.

But to get Talos for the brawls, you will have to get the developer's pack. It will come with one custom fighter for each of us. But then the sequel story will have a different set of developer stuff.

@Angel Bob: There can't be a standard brawl with the Rahi Nui. The Rahi Nui (being a final smash) would pretty much be invincible to KOs, therefore it would have to be a boss fight. Also, once again the Place of Shadow is not the Field of Shadows. Then again, all the places were jammed together, so I guess they could essentially be the same place now.

Just running this by, I will probably be doing two chapters before ending up in the lab, one in an futuristic abandoned city, the second ending in the lab. Are there any more groups to pick up on the way?

What happened to Kopaka and Lewa anyway? Who is writing for them?

Well I found something else to do, I just posted and the administrative section that I found nine bionicle music tracks on an old CD.

Ooookaaaayy....

Well then, resort to your "random slightly useless ideas" title. You seem to be good at it. XD

EDIT: Cameo redone.

Cutscene: Clockwork Angel

Talos and Pohatu raced through Odina, Talos's built-in fans clearing the smoke and ash before them. All around, Dark Hunters lay dead. Those who weren't were even more pitiful: ripped to shreds and blackened, immobile and trapped in fits of coughing. But not just the air from their lungs came out… so did the interior lining, their lifeblood wires, and assorted sparks. It was horror like Pohatu had never before seen.

Talos paused, and Pohatu nearly smashed into him. The Toa whirled his gaze around, but saw nothing.

And then a faint flicker in the air, then a quick flash of a face… and suddenly, a new being stood before them.

It was like a Toa, but radiated more power. Two huge, birdlike wings extended from its back, and its eyes glowed a pure crimson. Pohatu suppressed a shudder, though; it had no skin. No exterior layer of protodermis to conceal its intricate machinery, the clockwork that made it tick.

Clockwork?! That system was outdated when the Great Spirit first awakened! Just how old was this creature?!

"I'm glad to see you survived, Clockwork Angel," Talos said, but there was no joy in his voice - rather disappointment that this wonder was not lying in a twisted pile of steel rods and rusted gears.

"I walked this universe in the days of Tren Krom, and another world before that," Clockwork Angel whispered. Its voice was harsh and raspy. There was some malice in it, but the overall aura was of tiredness. "It would take more than all the energized protodermis in the universe to defeat me, even temporarily."

"But the others are not so powerful as yourself," Talos pointed out. "Did they…?"

Clockwork Angel grinned. "There were no survivors, young one. But the energy… so much energy. Enough energy for me to feast, and I shall not feed again for many centuries."

"What do you…" Talos began, but the Clockwork Angel flapped its wings and dove into the sky. But rather than take flight, its form shimmered and disappeared… and it was gone.

"Well, that was a nutcase of a Hunter," Pohatu finally said. "What did he mean, 'in the days of Tren Krom'?"

"No clue. The angel's language is indecipherable to many," Talos replied. "But he speaks only the truth. Still, we'd better check out the bomb site. The shell might still be there; I could trace it to its source."

"Let's go, then," Pohatu said.

Link to comment

Yeah. Plus a clockwork angel would be easier to KO people as than a statue. Duh. :P

Also, someone had better get their brains racking for a premise for this proposed sequel to The Cracked Vahi. Given the ending I have planned, that could be difficult... but we'll see. We shall see.

Link to comment

How could we possibly start thinking about that if we don't even know the ending?

There is always a way to get everyone back together.

I am known as the "brilliantly insane one" by people I know so as long as you give me an ending, I WILL come up with something. Furthermore I am a member of the random slightly useless ideas team it will not be hard.

Link to comment

Incidentally, I am working on Matoro & Krika's next level. This level, then ONE MORE in the caves with Mahravh, and then they will reach the Labs, HOWEVER, it won't just be, they reach the entrance to the labs, then go in, there WILL be one level AT the Labs.

Also "Brilliantly Insane One" is nothing. In real life, I don't go by my real name, I go by "Dr. Awesome". Seriously. I have my teachers call me that and everything.

Link to comment

@Omega: Aw, why did you need to top me? I'm also known as the "Crazy idea guy" from my tendency to produce a list of ideas to build out of thin air.

Link to comment

Other people either call me my real name or "Fez guy". Long story.

But you shall call me either "Angel Bob" or "Clockwork Angel" from now on.

Link to comment

@Angel Bob: Heh fez guy. Also, If you wanted to you could PM me the ending and I could get started with coming up with the next one if you don't want to spoil it for everyone. I currently have nothing to do so any assignment would probably be productive.

Link to comment

You heard him, make sure you only call him Algebra Bob or Cakewalk Angle (Yes, I do mean Angle not Angel).

Actually, Talos, another thing you could do is come up with more ways to insult Angle Bob.

Link to comment

That's Gornt. :annoyed2:

But actually, I think he should be in there. He's a Vorox alpha male. That's all you need to know. So... we'll work him in somewhere. Maybe we could catch a glimpse of him prowling the Atero ruins.

But yeah, Talos, there's an idea. I'll get it to you. Like, now.

Chapter ?: Desolate City

Cutscene: Escaping this Hole

The last ten seconds felt like an eternity to Smiley, after the implosion of the portal, mutated beasts had swarmed him and Gresh. Luckily, Smiley was intelligent and came up with a plan. He had scanned the fallen body of one of his enemies and figured that they must have been a Dark Hunter. He guessed that the mutagen used on them merely adjusted those affected and that they probably retained some of their former thoughts. He didn’t have the energy to fight them all and conjure a portal to escape without Gresh throwing up again inside. This required a great deal more energy than normal, he only cared because Gresh was hurt badly enough from slamming into the walls ten-too-many times. Using their distrust, he was hoping he could play the Dark Hunters against each other.

Smiley grabbed one of the hunters and attacked the others with the grabbed hunter’s weapon. He then teleported behind the enemies, grabbed another and fired with their weapon. This caused the effect that Smiley had hoped for. The hunters, believing that their own had attacked, started fighting with each other, forgetting about Smiley and Gresh. Smiley used the extra time to create a portal, grab Gresh, and escape the hole.

*Insert Level: Inter-dimensional Space ending in a portal. Playable Characters: Smiley and Gresh. Notes: Few enemies, all enemies are mutated.*

Cutscene: Not a Good Place to Live

Smiley arrived on the other end of the portal, fully expecting enemies to be on the other side. He was mistaken, he was in a huge city, as he had planned, but the city was much too quiet. This place was perfect for an ambush though. He and Gresh started walking toward a building in what appeared to be the center of the city. The buildings around them showed signs of an earlier fight. Buildings were in burning ruins, bodies littered the ground, all of them beyond saving. Smiley felt bad for all those who were around him, they acted in selflessness for a cause that may not even be worth saving.

“Do you think death hurts?” Gresh asked.

“Yes,” Smiley said, “but for the right cause it doesn’t matter, which is the most you can ask for, to die for something you believe in.”

“I guess,” Gresh said quietly.

“Luckily, you won’t have to worry about that with me around,” Smiley replied.

They continued walking until they heard a loud clicking noise. Suddenly, dozens of Nui Rama swarmed them. In the center of the swarm was a very evil-looking Toa Kualus.

*Insert Multi-Man Brawl: Smiley and Gresh vs. Thirty Nui-Rama.*

*Insert single stock brawl. Smiley and Gresh vs. Dark Rahi Trainer (with all Rahi)*

Cutscene: Bigger Guns Nearby

Kualus screeched and vanished in a bright purple-black puff of light. Smiley looked and waited for the image to leave his retinas. He was amazed at how quickly the Makuta had taken control of his friend. They even trusted their mind control enough to give Kualus a teleportation belt, similar to the one Roodaka had.

“Why are we going to that building over there anyway?” Gresh asked, exhausted.

“That building is a weapons research center. We’re going to need a lot bigger weapons if we’re breaking through the Makuta’s master lab.”

“I like the sound of that plan!”

With that, Smiley and Gresh ran towards the building with higher spirits than before.

That reminds me, for my next chapter I am going to have to reference Halo and RvB.
