  1. But earth can't control metal, not under my idea anyways. Earth can do gravity, which is pretty earth-y if you ask me. Stone does metal. EDIT: As for the distinction between Earth and Stone. With 2015, I feel like they can take the opportunity to rework it so that it causes less confusion. Like Stone would control the actual substance of rocks, sand, and stone. Earth, on the other hand, would have power over seismic energy and the sorts, and be able to cause earthquakes and the such. So a Toa of Stone could actually manipulate rocks, whereas a Toa of Earth would cause geographical phenomena. Volcanic activity, anyone?
  2. Rather than having 15+ different elements in the storyline that we will likely never see sets off, I'd much rather have Bionicle 2015 start off on a fresh note with a lot of the elements be reworked into the classic six elements. The idea that I have is that these sub-elements would be high-level powers of the classic six elements that would require the Toa to undergo some sort of character development. I envision them to also be extremely powerful abilities, somewhat replacing the notion of a "Nova Blast" from Gen 1. Here are a few suggestions I have thus far: Fire: Lightning Requiring a state of absolute calmness, lightning is an extremely concentrated form of fire capable of delivering a fatal blow to almost any opponent. In a one on one confrontation, it would be the ultimate kill-shot. The trade-off would be the immense difficulty it would take to control this power. Once generated, the user must actively work to guide it to its intended target. Failure to be in a calm state of mind would cause the user to lose control over the lightning, potentially being a lethal hazard to the user or his allies. Mastering this ability would force the hot tempered Tahu to learn how to discipline himself by keeping his aggression in check and keeping a level head. Earth: GravityWhilst the gravity itself is generally non-lethal to a single target being pinned, gravity is one of the most powerful abilities. At full power gravity can effect huge stretches of geographical areas making it capable of destroying entire cities. Gravity is fueled by raw heavy emotion. If the user gets overwhelmed by their own emotion, they will lose control over the power and potentially cause massive destruction. Mastering this power would force the usually reserved Onua to embrace his emotions and learn to use them to his advantage. Stone: IronA rather simple sub-ability, the iron is one of the hardest substances in the Gen-2 universe. Whereas lightning can be seen as having one of the best offensive purposes, iron can be seen as having one of the best defensive purposes. Mastery over iron requires extreme precision and high mental concentration. This would force Pohatu to fine tune himself and learn to be precise. Jungle: AcidWhilst not immediately lethal, acid is a very potent sub-ability of Jungle capable of causing serious injury. It has the power to clear away any obstacles in its path by corroding almost any substance in the Gen-2 universe, even iron. Unlike most of the other sub-elements, Acid seems to be rather easy to generate. Learning to master with such a potent power would force a normally easy-going Lewa to learn the value of taking things seriously. This would be a somewhat controversial sub-element, seeing as acid is generally associated with evil. However, seeing as Lewa's gen-1 history with getting taken over by the Bohrok, I find this to be strangely symbolic - but maybe that's just me. Ice: "Absolute Zero"A last resort in where the user releases all of his elemental power, dramatically lowering the temperature to the point where all recognizable kinetic motion in the surrounding area stops. Anything that comes within the area of effect while the ability is in use will also be trapped in this suspended animation. Unfortunately, this ability is so powerful that even the user will be trapped in this suspended animation for the duration of this ability. This ability will continue for several minutes until the user runs out of power completely, in which all motion resumes and everyone is released. This also leaves the user extremely vulnerable after using this ability as he would be out of power. Therefore making this ability the ultimate gamble used in desperate situations in which there is a need to stall for time. This ability would require the logical and self dependent Kopaka to make a leap of faith and trust in the capabilities of others. Water: Healing/Life drainI am playing with the idea in which once you trap someone in a sphere of water, you can drain the power of a target to heal another target. Think Gali in MOL. The amount necessary would depend on the scope of the injury. The user has the option of using her own power to do the job, but to do so will be extremely taxing. I suppose there is always the option to just drain someone of their power and leave them weakened. This would force the compassionate Gali to weigh the value of life and make difficult decisions. So this is all I have for now. Of course, nobody has to agree with any of this stuff. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions? I may post something for the combination element idea I have going later.
  3. More elements that we will likely never get the sets of. I'd much rather have the elements become high-level sub elemental powers of the six, and mastering these new powers would force the Toa to undergo some character development. Lightning should be a highly concentrated form of fire that requires the user to be in state of total calmness, so Tahu would need to learn how to keep a level head. Gravity would require the user to use raw heavy emotion, so Onua would need to be let loose. Metal would require the user to be sharp and precise, forcing Pohatu to fine tune himself. Stuff like that. Then other powers can be combinations of elemental powers. Weather control could be a combination of Jungle (air powers) and Water and/or Ice. Magnetism could be a combination power between fire (lightning) and stone (metal). Lava could be a combination of earth and fire. The elemental affinities should not be exclusive to the Toa either. Evil Jungle-type characters could use acid/poison/venom based powers. The only other elements that should be included to the classic six are light and shadow, because they too can be considered classic elements.
  4. Jaller. Arguably one of the most solid bionicle sets period.
  5. Stickers. Luckily this does not affect Tahu. <3
  6. Yes it did. If by bang you meant the oh-so-satisfying sound of Bionicle's glorious right hook connecting with its jawline. I kid, of course. I dunno. Set wise they were decent. Storywise, eehhhh...
  7. I'm all for this idea, except the part about how Toa of Fire should be able to control lightning. I think those should remain separate. Instead, it would make more sense for a Toa of Fire to be able to shoot beams of plasma. As for Magnetism and Lightning being combined, I don't think that would really be as OP as people are saying, and a Toa of Lightning is OP by default. Take this into consideration: A Toa of Electricity would be powerful by herself. But a Toa of Lightning could shoot lightning, (duh,) which could vaporize her opponents. (Not to say Lightning and Electricity are different.) So I don't think simply tossing Magnetism in there would make a Toa of Lightning that much more powerful. Earth, Stone, and Iron should never have been different. But, with the exception of Iron being separate, I really can't see them being the same after all these years. And it kinda does make sense, as Toa of Stone can control rock formations while Toa of Earth can control and manipulate the Earth itself. It's because of this distinction that I do think Earth and Gravity should be combined. Honestly, I am kinda hoping they cut down on the Element count in gen 2. They already did combine Air and the Green, so that's a good start. I also agree that their should be more distinction between "Elements" and "Powers," Elements being Water, Earth, Fire, Air etc. and Powers being stuff like Heat Vision, Elasticity, Weather Control, Silence etc. Although Laser vision and Heat Vision don't need to be the same. A lot of sources I've read consider lightning to be an example of plasma, so having fire control lightning. Plus, a lot of fiction I've read has lightning as being related to fire. As for electricity and magnetism being combined...Then we'll have to call it a Toa of Electromagnetism. It would be somewhat OP as EM forces can do a lot of fundamental things. The way I would like the elements played out this time around is that there are only classic six elements + light. Other powers should either be special skills related to the six elements, or combinations thereof. Otherwise we're just going to end up with a bunch of elements that we'll never get the sets of again... and that's just no fun. Really unique powers would just be powers then, like elasticity. But stuff like weather control should be combos between water/jungle/ice.
  8. I actually agree with Gukko Lord on the whole "there should only be six elements". However, I don't like eliminating the special powers from the storyline altogether. I'm pretty sure we can find inventive way to rework some existing powers into the major six elements. It would allow for a lot more creativeness. For example, acid-base powers can come from evil Jungle-type characters. A fire-based character may have a heat vision ability. I also like the tier system as it would allow for a distinction between more experienced Toa and less experienced ones if we have multiple team. So the elite characters would have access to the tertiary abilities due to their superior experience controlling the elements, whilst the less experienced characters will have to learn the ropes. This is assuming multiple Toa teams exist, of course.
  9. 1) Customers AKA little boys. 2) Still, I'd rather keep the 5/6 ratio. 3) DC COMICS ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE IN THE REAL WORLD. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A WORLD FULL OF ROBOTS. And female characthers from a tribe would act just like the males, because all individuals from a tribe have similar personalities. No story getting enlarged. 4) Red-unlikely White-more unlikely Brown-NO(I'm not racist, but it's just not feminine in general) Black-NO Blue-yes Green-uhh, maybe. But it's dark green, so unlikely. 1) Even little boys understand that females exist. 2) Well you have the right to your own opinion. An opinion does not make for an argument though. 3) Again irrelevant. Even if Bionicle takes place in a world full of robots, that still doesn't justify your claim that an in-story population with roughly 50/50 gender ratios would deter boys from the series. Nor would it make it indicate that Lego is targeting the line any less at boys. It would just mean that the characters and society within the storyline somewhat mirrored our own. 3.5) Actually specific personality traits for the tribes is another thing I didn't like about the old series. 4) Circular reasoning. You saying it's unlikely doesn't actually count as a reasoning, much less proof, of it being the case. A quick google image search of "Red dress disney princess" comes up with a plethora of results indicating that red can be used in a feminine fashion.
  10. My idea for elemental powers is that they should follow some sort of progression system. Fire: Beginners can control and manipulate existing flames and raise the temperature. More advanced users can generate their own source of fire, and absorb heat. Skilled experts can generate lightning. Water: Beginners can manipulate water, and swim through water at great efficiency. More advanced users can generate their own source of water, and absorb bodies of water. Skilled experts can heal. Stone: Beginners can easily find stress points in rocks and shatter them. More advance users can generate stone at will. Skilled experts can manipulate metal. Earth: Beginners can cause seismic earthquakes. More advance users can manipulate large stretches of Earth at will. Skilled experts can manipulate gravity. Jungle: Beginners can manipulate air currents and communicate with plantlife. More advance users can generate their own supply of air and generate plant life. Skilled experts can fly without assistance. Ice: Beginners can freeze upon contact. More advance users can create constructs of ice. Skilled experts can flash freeze at a distance. And so forth. Stuff like magnetism can be achieved if a Toa of Fire who can generate lightning teams up with a Toa of Stone who can control metal.
  11. 1) Irrelevant, because the point was to have it be relatable to consumers. 2) Again, we're talking about 2015 and the changes we want to see this time around. None of us are asking to retcon MU 2001-2010. 3) 5/6 ratio adds to the atmosphere? Makes it more mythical? I would argue equal gender ratios amongst the tribe would improve the line and storyline. It's less restrictive. Making one gender exclusively female is an arbitrary restriction, and ends up being an inconvenience if you want to switch things up a bit. Think of every other storyline that houses a universe with equal gender ratio. For example, DC comics. Obviously half the human population is female. That doesn't mean it caters less to boys, or that females take up half the casts in the story roster. Same thing with bionicle. Nobody is saying make half the sets female characters. 4) I'm pretty sure you can pass off any colour as feminine. Blue is also traditionally marketed to be masculine, especially shades like navy blue (which the metru blue would be).
  12. EDIT: LOSS I will get to play around with the action features for a while. Then I'm probably going to use its pieces for mocs. Well, it's not just Gali 08 that I didn't find appealing set-wise. The Mistika in general were underwhelming as sets for me. Lack of new parts and melee weapons kind of put me off. They also didn't show any semblance to their previous versions. Which was a shame, because the Phantoka were able to pull it off rather decently. Welcome brother. Glad to see another Tahu fan.
  13. 1) We live in the 21st century. So tough luck. 2) That was true when Matoran were artificial. Even then, the Glatorian and Agori reproduced biologically. We don't know anything about the biological nature of the 2015 characters. As far as we know, we may not even have matoran or Turaga. Ekimu and Makuta are brothers, and Makuta is not a species. Magic exists. So right off the bat, there is no reason to assume that any of the restrictions of the MU applies in 2015. This entire thread is meant to voice changes you want in the new storyline. 3) You are trying to ridicule the argument by making an appeal to the fact that Bionicle is fiction. Not working. I still don't see why there is any reason why there shouldn't be a 50/50 gender ratio amongst the tribes. Mind you, nobody is saying that we should get 50/50 named characters in sets. We're simply asking for the tribes in the storyline to have more diversity. 4) "When we're talking about a giant robot inhabited by cyborgs realistic things have no place in here". We're not. There is no negative effects of making even gender ratios. For one, if Lego decides they are tired of having the blue characters always be female they can actually reassign the female role to another colour. That also means we can actually get some Toa of Water that are male.
  14. At the risk of sounding blasphemous, I too think the 2015 Tahu is a definite improvement on the 2001 version. I can't wait.
  15. I MoC. Been testing out custom builds that includes a gear function with my Tahu Nuva moc.
  16. Well, I guess you have your favorites as I have mine. I regret not getting Gali Mata. 08' version looked like a Piraka to me.
  17. I'm definitely getting Tahu and the Protector of Fire (just so I can power-up Tahu). Gali is next on my list. Then Lewa. Then Pohatu. Onua and Kopaka are nice sets, but I don't like dealing with sticker decals so I'll pass on those until the end. Tahu first though. Tahu is always first. Lord of the Skull spiders... I feel like this set will be really useful for MoCing purposes. Those hybrid axle-pin pieces are to die for. However, I would definitely get any 15$ Toa before getting this guy.
  18. NOPE. Kinetics shall never see the light of day except as a power. Gravity and Magnetism are two different forces of nature. I do support Gravity being an Earth power in 2015 though.
  19. I don't. If you are not familiar with the Bionicle lore, then its too late for you. You will never appreciate the epicness that is Bionicle. Your childhood will never be as good as mine, and sad day for you.
  20. SPOILER ALERT: Mata Nui is a giant robot. Island of Mata Nui is his face. The entire matoran universe is his body. He was built to unite the planet of Spherus Magna, which has split up into three parts. He crash landed on Aqua Magna (the part of Spherus Magna with all the water) when Makuta put him into a coma. If you are unfamiliar with 2004's storyline, you'll probably need to know that Matoran can transform into Toa, and Toa can transform into Turaga. It's the "matoran life cycle". But only those that are destined to do so will. Oh, and Makuta is a species. The one we know from 2001-2003 is named Teridax, the leader. All this will make explanations easier. 2004 - This is a flashback year. Vakama tells stories about the city of Metru Nui, which is Mata Nui's brain. Lhikan gives six matoran (Vakama, Nokama, Nuju, Onewa, and Whenua) stones that turns them into Toa Metru. Makuta traps all the matoran into spheres, causing Mata Nui to go into a coma. Makuta (disguised as a Turaga named Dume) manipulates Vakama into creating the mask of time from six great disks. Vakama defeats Makuta, and the Toa Metru trap him in a seal. The mask of time is lost in Metru Nui's oceans. They then take some matoran to an island above Metru Nui, which was too damaged to live in (because Mata Nui crash landed into an ocean planet) which we know as Mata Nui. 2005 - Another flashback year, continuing with when 2004 left off. Toa Metru go back to Metru Nui to get the rest of the Matoran (they could only take six spheres in 2004). They find the city overrun by spiders called visorak. They get caught in a web and mutated, becoming Toa Hordika. Basically it crippled them and made them beast like. They find Keetongu which could reverse this mutation. They then fought the leaders of the visorak swarms. The male one gets The female one Roodaka works for Makuta, and tricks the Toa into freeing him from his seal. Keetongu undoes the Toa's mutations in the aftermath of the battle. Vakama retrieves the mask of time, and uses it to threaten Makuta into not attacking the matoran for 1 year. The Toa then sacrifice their Toa power to free the matoran from their pods, turning them into Turaga. 2006 - Toa Nuva finish listening to the Turaga's stories of Metru Nui, and now have re-established civilization on Metru Nui. The Turaga discover that Mata Nui is not only asleep but dying. They send the Toa Nuva into an island on the surface world (outside Mata Nui giant robot, this island is actually part of Mata Nui's organs which broke off when he crash landed) named Voya Nui to find the Mask of Life. They find a group of bandits called the Piraka (species name: Skakdi) and were defeated. Meanwhile, a group of Matoran (Jaller, Hahli, Matoro, Nuparu, Hewkii, and Kongu) set out to help the Toa Nuva. They hide in Toa pods, which were struck by lightning from the red star (Mata Nui's power backpack). This turns them into the Toa Inika. Inika then fight the Piraka, with some degree of success, and enter the tunnels where the mask of life was being held. Mask of Life has a mind of its own, and chooses Matoro to be its herald. But before anyone can use it, the mask of life sent itself into the sea of Aqua Magna. 2007 - Mask of Life travels into the sea of Aqua Magna. There are 2 important locations here: The pit, which is a prison for all of the outlaws within the Mata Nui robot. And Mahri Nui, which was a part of Voya Nui that sank. The villains of this year were the Barraki, who are warlords that tried to take over Mata Nui. They have now escaped the pit. Long story short, everyone fought for the mask. Toa discovered they had to destroy both Voya Nui and Mahri Nui to fix the hole in Mata Nui's body, which they did. Not before evacuating all the matoran of course. Unfortunately, Mata Nui dies. However, Matoro then sacrifices himself to revive him with the mask of life. 2008 - This one is easy. The leader of the Makuta, Teridax, sent a bunch of Makuta (remember, they are actually a species) into Karda Nui (Mata Nui's heart). Toa Nuva, now equipped with adaptive armour, fight Makuta. Toa win. Mata Nui is revived. Happy ending. PLOT TWIST. It turns out that when Mata Nui died, Teridax (Makuta) snuck into his body and assumed control. So now Makuta is in control of the giant robot (which is Mata Nui's body). He then seals Mata Nui into the mask of life, and ejects it into a far away planet. Then he declares his victory to all the inhabitants of his body. Makuta wins. 2009 - It turns out the faraway planet was actually very close. Mask of Life ends up on Bara Magna, the largest fragment of Spherus Magna left. Mask of Life creates body for Mata Nui. Mata Nui explores world. Mata Nui finds conflict. Mata Nui crushes conflict with haxed mask and elemental powers. The citizens of Spherus Magna dont have elemental powers. They are called Agori (little guys), Glatorian (warriors), and Skrall (evil warriors). 2010 - Mata Nui finds prototype giant robot. Mata Nui assumes control. Makuta comes in with his giant robot. Mata Nui fights Makuta. Makuta releases swarms of Rahkshi to fight Toa and allies. Mask of Life creates golden armour for Tahu to use to decimate swarms of Rahkshi. Mata Nui beats Makuta and merges spherus magna back to a whole. Mata Nui rests in the mask of life. Tahu leads the inhabitants of Mata Nui robot to live on the new world. The end. Not going to cover serials.
  21. Any Toa could generally overpower a sith in terms of powers. Nova blast would decimate entire cityscapes. The fact that the Toa had to be restricted by a moral code turns this into a "How creative does the Toa need to be to subdue his target?" rather than a "Does a Toa have the power to beat a sith?".
  22. I look at lego the same way I look at MMA. It's great if girls get into it, and I wouldn't have it any other way, However, if violence is a core essence in what your trying to sell (such as with action figures) you can't be surprised if they try to target it towards those with high testosterone. Lego should just make stuff that is cool, and not worry too much about who it attracts.
  23. This is nothing new for hero f.ctory. There that one time where the "heroes" went underground, and were about to get a truce with the enemies by threatening their young. Then some goof dropped his gun and ended up blasting the nest, and they ended up committing genocide on their species.
