  1. No Toa Kaita. I never liked the Kaita, but I like the idea of a Toa Nui with all six set named Mata Nui.
  2. Tahu, Tahu, and Tahu. Oh, and Tahu is probably a good one here to. But if I had to pick one, it'll have to be Tahu. No seriously, Tahu, Lhikan, Vakama, Jaller.
  3. 2005. It was more dark and gritty than 2006-2008. Which isn't the problem imo. The problem was it was unnecessarily dark and gritty. It made no sense to have Vakama turn. It was such an obtuse turn of events that Greg even opposed it. And the sets! They took a step back in terms of points of articulation.
  4. For sets, I'm actually going to have to say 2015. I am REALLY digging the new sets, from what I've seen. This is so hard, because 2006 had an epic theme, 2007 had really unique sets, and 2008 had so much storyline buildup. If I had to pick, it would be 2006 though. The Inika, at that time, were amazing.
  5. Oh, Kiina is a great build, and looks very petite. She is still one of my favorite BIONICLE sets. I have her sitting right beside me. One of the few sets that I havn't obliterated for mocing purposes.
  6. I for one will support the idea of Tahu getting a harem. Feminizing sets isn't hard. Kiina was a good example. Honestly, simply having the set look elegant is enough for me (though I'm all for more Roodaka builds). Gali 2015 is a good example of this. Simply don't give her a mustache or a massive jaw or a piraka face. I'm not sure if lego has an obligation to appeal more to the female audience. Playing into a stereotype in advertisement may end up being a turn-off. However, a well designed set will sell, even if the set is obviously female. I'm all for magic. IMO, the mystique of Bionicle was one of its major selling points. I'm not for human actors in advertisements. It breaks the 4th wall, and one of the best thing about Bionicle was the serious nature of it. It gave the universe a really fleshed out vibe. Nevermind the girls, some guys I used to know on BZP shipped Jaller and Hahli and Macku and Hewkii.
  7. Again, I'm not saying this commercial was bad! I had no problem with it. I enjoyed it just fine. But you said it "embodies all that Bionicle is", and that's a HUGE oversimplification. There's a lot more to BIONICLE than anything in that ad. So are you saying that "Everything is Awesome" has no association with The LEGO Movie? After all, before it existed it wasn't associated with anything. But it was written for The LEGO Movie. If it weren't for The LEGO Movie, it would never have existed. It doesn't matter whether those songs had any association BEFORE they were created. Nobody would be dumb enough to claim that a song that doesn't exist has any connection to anything. But the fact remains that Cryoshell's songs were written specifically for BIONICLE, so their connection to the BIONICLE theme began the moment they were conceived. Whereas Move Along fitting the BIONICLE theme is pure coincidence. Again, I'm not saying anything about that song or that commercial is bad! But besides the sets themselves, nothing about that commercial is unique to the BIONICLE theme. It'd be like saying the Trajan font family, the LEGO Technic axle hole, or the term Turaga "embodies all that Bionicle is", when in reality each of those things is just an incredibly small part of BIONICLE's identity. I'm just going to take your word for this. What I was trying to get across when I said that it was all that embodied bionicle was actually the speech given. For me, Bionicle was all about the execution of good storytelling of heroes. One of its recurring themes is what it meant to be a hero. The whole "You may look like a hero, you may feel like a hero. You may be one. You may be many. You may have new masks, new weapons, new armour. But its not what you've got its what you do with it that makes you a hero" speech really captured that essence. The music in the backround doesn't hurt. That essence they should be going back to. You saw this theme with the Nuva when they fought the Kal. You saw this theme with the Metru when they faced Krahka. You saw this theme with matoran like Jaller. You saw this theme with Lhikan. Bionicle defined what a hero was for me as a child...and it did so with some pretty epic thematic storytelling. Which is why I say this is the style lego should be going back to. Lego doesn't need to convince me that Tahu has the best weapons ever. Lego doesn't need to tell me that Kopaka's armour is the state of the art. Chances are, I will buy a large majority of the 2015 line. Lego just needs to bring back the feeling of Bionicle.
  8. But so what if they would have worked with any other line? They worked for Bionicle. I don't see any reason Bionicle needs to be unique so far as commercial goes. They have plenty of uniqueness in the franchise itself. I am content was it simply being epic. And seeing the Inika commercial go off when I was...14 was pretty epic for me. Cyroshell's songs were written for Bionicle. At no point or time did the song exist prior to being associated with Bionicle. No song has any association to Bionicle prior to being associated with Bionicle. Something that does not exist cannot be associated with Bionicle, and Creeps of the Deep did not exist prior to its conception. Existence is a requirement for being in association with. I think what you meant to say was that Move Along was not created explicitly for the purpose of Bionicle. Which although true, isn't necessarily something bad. If it fits the theme, it fits the theme. I don't see any particular reason they couldn't adopt songs from artists. Obviously there are advantages to having your own band work for you, but lego worked with what they had...and 06 was a pretty awesome year so far as the release of the Inika was concerned. At the very least, it was for me.
  9. Because they didn't have a team of Toa sent to deal with them. The beasts didn't exactly get the top of the line service, if you get what I mean. Remember Krahka in Book 3 of Metru Nui? That was Bionicle's way of dealing with the whole "we accidentally disturbed the wildlife" theme. Nobody had to be killed. In fact, she returned later to help the Metru. Bionicle was never black and white imo. Heck, Toa wouldn't even kill visorak if they could help it.
  10. Actually, Gali's 2015 form is probably one of the more feminine sets. At the very least, the set looks elegant. Her 2008 version could have passed for a Piraka.
  11. Bionicle was released when I was in grade 1, and has followed me for the next 10 years of my childhood. They were the heroes I grew up with. I remember making sketches of all the masks in my spare time. Bionicle taught the lesson that heroism is more about what you did than what you are. Something a kid growing up could really do more of. You are automatically in my good books if you like Bionicle. BZP, I can't exactly remember when I first discovered it. It was a little prior to the release of the Inika, so I peg it at mid 2006. I remember gawking at the pics of the sets for hours. 2004-2005 was kind of a bore for me, though I bought most of the metru and books. The Hordika was simply not interesting enough for me. BZP also taught me that some people were very smart. Some guy predicted the whole Mata Nui = Matoran universe plot like a year before it was revealed to be the case. I took a year to travel last year, so this will be my first year at university. Perfect timing.
  12. Mmm, guns, chain-link fences, shallow platitudes, and generic, plucked-from-the-airwaves songs that have nothing to do with the franchise! Just what I like in my BIONICLE! ...Wait, no, that's not right at all. Guns were fine so long as it wasn't their main weapon. Face it, when it came out in 06, it was awesome. I had zero problem with the speech. It was epic. The songs were meant to give the year a tone. In which case, Move Along fit. The Inika came at a time where Mata Nui was dying, and the Nuva were just recently defeated. It set the tone for that year. No song had any association to Bionicle prior to it being associated with Bionicle. That's a non-argument.
  13. Do you guys remember this commercial? The following trailer embodies all that Bionicle is. This is what lego needs. This is what lego needs to stay away from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXqOIn41AdQ
  14. See, I interpreted this with one of two theories: 1) Lego always intended to bring back Bionicle. The storyline was getting convoluted, so lego needed reboot. But they couldn't do it right away, as the Spherus Magna storyline was in full motion. So they decided to take drastic action, and cancel it for a few years. This would allow potential new fans the ability to see it as a new product, and old fans to drool at the nostalgia. Hero Factory was basically a distraction. It was a nice way to generate revenue. It was also a good way for lego to test out new building system, without having the flaws of said system influencing how fans perceive Bionicle. The statements about how there were no plans to revive Bionicle, and how buying HF sets will prove to lego there was still an interest in constraction sets, was basically to get us to get invested in HF. It was simply a good marketing move. 2) Lego tried to drop Bionicle for Hero Factory. Hero Factory was meant to be sustainable on its own for the foreseeable future. Hero Factory didn't do as well as they would have hoped - And let's face it, they hoped for Bionicle-standards. No company wants to lose revenue of a line. Don't get me wrong, the company overall did very well. 2012 and 2013 were arguably their most successful year...but they owe that to other lines. HF simply wasn't Bionicle-worthy. And lego would like that level of success. Lego is now trying to act as if Bionicle's return is a planned event, making it look like it was a move of marketing genius.
  15. Hehe...vibro batons. Very solid build. Loved the torso. Loved the way you included a mata head. Gives off a very mata-esque build. Great job bro.
  16. Protectors are awesome if you think about it. I feel as if I am getting just as much out of these guys as I would buying a hero for HF. They have elbow and knee articulation. They have sweet weapon builds. They have a true rapid fire launcher - did you see that thing go off at NYCC!? All this justifies the 10$ price tag imo. All of the sets have around 60+ pieces (protector of Stone has the highest at 67, I think). Storyline wise, I'm fine with the villagers being the same species as the elders. This means that the role of the elder can change. Also, this doesn't necessarily mean there are no variations amongst the protectors. Maybe the mask we are seeing from these six sets are symbols of leadership amongst the protectors, hence why all the elders wear one?
  17. I still think they can get away with calling them the Toa Mata. It's not hard to come up with a in-story justification for the name. Jaller pointed towards the stars and whipped up Inika. They can just say its the Otokon (and I'm using this as an adjective and adverb) word for "spirit". Toa Otoko also works. Sounds a bit lengthy though. I personally will refer to the 2015 team as Omega Tahu and his chumps.
  18. He also created the Toa Mata...SO BAM! I'm guessing usage of the mask is mentally taxing, dependent on the power of the object he is trying to create. A Great Kanohi mask infused with Toa power is likely too much for Arthaka to spam.
  19. I have an idea: Maybe Mata Nui in this universe would be a Toa Nui? Mata Nui can be achieved through a fusion of all six Toa, and would be nearly invincible (think power levels rivalling a giant robot).
  20. I am not above using force against certain types of people. I will express my love for Bionicle if I want to, when I choose to. Publically, should I deem it necessary or favourable. If asked, though rare, I will answer honestly. If you disapprove, more power to you. If you tick me off, sad day for you.
  21. I'm just going to be honest: No. It doesn't look like Tahu. It's a nice artwork. It's just not Tahu. At least, not a version I am familiar with (Mata, Nuva, Mistika, Stars and Okoto).
  22. 2008 flopped because they turned Tahu into a ninja. gave Gali a Piraka face, and you had to stare really hard at Onua's mask to find any recognizable facial features...and even then, you're still not really sure if that's the nose or the eyes.
  23. Well, correct me if I am wrong but as long as I know Bionicle was ended in favor of HF because of the overly complicated storyline that Bionicle had, which explains the much simpler story of HF and the episodic nature of it. This probably means that Bionicle 2015, although keeping itself close to the "roots", will probably be also simpler in terms of its new lore. This can be seen already in what we know of the new Bionicle, for example: calling the toa "masters" of their elements so their role is easier to understand for new fans, etc. Correct. Bionicle ended because the story was getting too complicated, and new fans are finding it hard to keep up. The simpler Bionicle story for 2015 is fine by me. They did say they were going to start simple, and then build their world up gradually, I believe. And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. In my opinion, so long as they go back to the roots of "what it means to be a Toa", I would be more than satisfied. Bionicle portrayed heroism in its characters in a way that HF never managed to rival. I mean, to draw a comparison, year 4 of Bionicle was when we got Lhikan. Very hard to top storytelling on that level. My post was specifically referring to the sets. HF, for me, would always just be a transitional phase. I can see why the line was necessary. Without it, Bionicle probably wouldn't have gotten the nice fresh reboot of 2015. We would also probably still be stuck with the Inika build. It was a necessary marketing move. However, I simply couldn't get into the theme: Most people I know bought HF sets for MoCing purposes. I personally bought a red set every wave to support Lego. Very, very few people bought HF sets because "OMG, Furno - I must get him".
