How are the Skull Spiders supposed to attach to Toa/Protectors?
Blueblur21 replied to Bryce304's topic in Bionicle Discussion
This confused me as well. Also, do they jump backwards when they launch themselves at an enemy? -
Because it's the same? […]It's not the same? […] This conversation chain is about Ekimu's Protector mask, which is what she's referring to. Then you compared it to Skull Spiders. That's a separate thing, and not what that reply was about. But I wasn't talking about that mask. I was talking about the Skull Spiders.

Oh yeah? Sorry to burst your bubble, but 2001 was the worst year for Bionicle. in fact, the story didn't start picking up until 2003. I never cared about the 'magic' or 'mystery'. 2006 had all of that and more. Giant axe wielding monsters? Check. Lightning powers? Check. An important storyline that would shape the future of the series? Check. 'But wahh! It didn't have stupid online games and mask packs!' Too bad. It didn't need any of that. It had awesome light up swords and rain drenched garages with the AAR backing the heroes as they assaulted the evil Piraka base. In fact, I regret not getting any of the Piraka now because back then I didn't have money. And since you pointed it out, YES, I like 'gang culture' and dark and gritty stuff. What's wrong with that? It's better than some childish stick robots trying to fight rolling balls.

You mean like the Mask of Creation? Yeah, too bad they didn't include that in the set. It makes sense that he would be wearing the Protector mask he was buried in, since that was how he was when last seen. Canonically, it's the most common mask shape on the island, so if the Protectors were looking for a ceremonial mask to put on his face, it would probably be the shape of pretty much every other mask on the island. That said, he would probably look far more distinctive wearing his signature mask, and I can't wait to see some pictures of it on him. I like how you assume I missed the fact that it was already in the set on purpose. I KNOW it's in the set. I wanted him to have his OWN mask. You want sarcasm milk with your cookie? The whole point of the set is that he's fighting back for his own mask. Why would you also not want the protector mask in that slick color set, too? Because it's the same? Just like the Skull Spiders. WHY do we need TWO same color Skull Spiders in the Master and Protector sets? It's not the same? It's a new color mix. You know, giving us a mask in seven different color mixes. We haven't seen that much variety in mask colors since they stopped making mask packs. What would you want instead? You'd want them to only include the Mask of Creation, without throwing in a unique recolor? That would decrease the quality of the set, not increase it. Read my comment again and rethink this post. I wasn't talking about the Protector masks (I've gotten over that since seeing that it does matter to the story...) I was talking about the Skull Spiders and how we get two of three different colors if we get both Toa and Protector.

I completely agree. I love this reboot and the fact it exists at all, but these cheesy 90's wannabe cartoons have got to go. It pains me to see my heroes turned into some Saturday morning sideshow. God I miss 2006.I remember the old toa nuva animations, they made me so intrigued and made me wanna know more about these characters, I don't think the new style will harm sales but still though I'd like a little more mystery (although at least it's not as bad as HF). I'd much rather have the Toa doing things like they did in their original videos and in their Nuva videos. Kopaka doing a sick flip before catching his sword and slamming it onto the ground and sending a group of Skull Spiders to their deaths? ALL IN CGI? YES!

That was what set it apart from the years before it in Bionicle. Mata Nui was dying and everything was at stake. This was also the year I got into the series so I may have some bias to this part but 2006 generally had a strong story. You could say that about Okoto as well. Skull Spiders and Skull Warriors could replace the Piraka.Instead, the characters are one dimensional, with the sidekicks and villains having no personalities whatsoever. The Piraka were some of the best villains in the entire series. They were special and had great play features. Also, Bionicle Heroes turned the violent gangster thing on its head. Aside from that I loved the gangster theme. These guys were awesome and dark, like bad guys are supposed to be. The Inika were awesome as well and the ads alone made them my favorite Toa team. (Of the first generation.)2006 didn't have the awful 90 second animations. instead, they had Hahli being a complete boss and running over bear traps.Free The Band was one of the coolest promotions ever. It got me into the AAR and they now have a permanent place on my iPod. 'Move Along' is enjoyed by my entire family. Move Along is iconic and has been used in many different media since it was recorded. 2015's song is cool but it only lasts for so long. Bionicle was ALWAYS Bionicle. 2006 was the tipping point into darker territory and they pulled it off fantastically.

Skull Warrior and Skull BAsher look the coolest to me aside from Grinder. Also, I hate that Ekimu has the same Protector mask. Why couldn't they give him his own special mask?

That's what caused G1 to flop in the very end. It's what been said millions of times. It's just my opinion. And it doesn't have to go into all the side stories and all that. 2006 was the perfect example of how I want the new Bionicle to return to. 2006 is a perfect example of what I never want Bionicle to come close to ever again. 2006 IS a perfect example. I really do hope LEGO nails it on the head like they did this year. If anything, 2005 was the worst year.

DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT MASK MAKER SET!? Sorry, Microsoft. Your Xbox will have to wait until Christmas.

The thing is, the story isn't simplified. There's plenty of important detail there, and there are mysteries and histories and all kinds of things. It just never has the time to focus on any of that for more than one episode, if that. Any illusion of the 2001 story being more complex probably comes from the Toa collecting six masks each (most of those being off-screen anyway) as opposed to one. Oh, but it is. Even the comics are all generic. We KNOW they have to get their golden masks now show us something ELSE,What's the LOSS? How did he gain control of all the other spiders? WHY is there a gold skull spider mask if it hasn't been seen in the animations?
-
Personally, I'd like a first person type of game, where you pick your Toa and have to go through an action packed linear level to find your golden mask and fight the LOSS at the end. Your Protector would be right there with you, kind of like the AI allies from the Call of Duty series. However, these Protectors are smart and know when to engage in combat and when not to. There would be special dialogue and fully rendered CGI cut scenes using the sets. There would be an awesome voice cast and Gali would have the perfect voice actress. You get to upgrade your Toa with different armor and past weapons from past teams, kind of like Bionicle Heroes. You fight Skull Spiders and each Toa has their own environment with special features. Tahu has lava surfing segments in his levels, while Gali has to outswim a massive shark-like monster in one part. I get excited just thinking about it! It could be for both gens and the handhelds and would be a great game!

It is obvious that the storyline is not the main priority of Lego. On that note, neither was the 2001 storyline the main priority of Lego as that will, then and now, always be money. A simple glance at BZPower is proof of my next point; the members of this site have been so starved of Bionicle in the past 5 years that they will buy the sets regardless of personal (negative) feelings towards them. At the end, Lego still wins; in fact they make more seeing as how they spend less on story related media. This guy gets it. In the end, it's all about the cash. Its obvious, really. Take Destiny for example: Bungie/Activision hyped it up to be the most awe-inspiring game of this console generation and it ended up being a mediocre game at best. I wouldn't blame Lego for taking this kind of approach--HF sales were dropping pretty fast, which left some people with a sour taste in their mouth. So they're pulling out all the hype-stops on Bionicle's return, hoping to make bank quickly and draw in as many peeps as possible. Destiny was far from mediocre. This game has a 4/5 on Metacritic and is played by millions of users all across America. I don't play it myself but I would if I could afford the internet bills. Anyway, back to Bionicle. I really do wish everything was taken more slowly and we had some complexity to the plot. It's not even the first month and the Toa already have their golden masks? The fears I had of this being a simplified story seem to be coming true...

Xbox One. It's amazing. Had one since last year, will be using it for the next 5 at least. Yeah! But my birthday isn't until August so I have to wait a few months.

So.... Now I have to decide between the summer sets or an Xbox One for my birthday. Any ideas?

Poll: Should Cryoshell come back (for Bionicle Gen2)?
Blueblur21 replied to fishers64's topic in Bionicle Discussion
They've been around since 2007. I'd say that's long enough. Their music is deep and catchy and can be played at parties and social gatherings without any problems. I'd say Cryoshell more than deserves to be the 'definitive musical voice' of Bionicle.- 57 replies

Don't knowSteve Blum is an extremely prolific voice actor. You might know him as Amon from The Legend of Korra. Or a number of other things. He voices a lot of growly characters, but for Pohatu I was thinking somewhere around his voice for JP from Digimon Frontier. These questions always seem to be met with lists of either celebrities or big screen actors. Casting the most famous person isn't always the best option, especially when there are hundreds of voice actors who could most likely do a much better job. You're kidding, right? Steve Blum cannot hold a candle to someone like Liam Neeson or Jennifer Lawrence. I'd rather have someone famous voice one of the Toa than some nobody voice actor.

NO! Come on! Now I'll have nightmares for weeks!

So... No offense to you guys, but that site was ugly. Too much was going on at once and everything was just all over the place.

Morgan Freeman would be perfect.

This could work.

Not Selena. Please.
