  1. Cathexis,

It's a pet peeve of mine to see words misused. I wanted to express what was on my mind.

I also have a pet peeve against smart-alecs. Why did you care enough to read this entire entry and post a comment?

    Live long and prosper.

It just seems like a whole lot of effort spent over nothing. And I read your entire entry and posted a comment because I was reading your blog. That's what people do when they read blogs. They read entries and post comments. Do you have a pet peeve against people reading your blog?

  2. Let's get down to business - to defeat! The Huns!

Did they send me daughters...when I asked for sons?

You're the saddest bunch I've ever met

But you can bet before we're through

    Mister, I'll...make a man...out of you!

    Tranquil as a forest...

    But on fire within!

    Once you find your center...

    You are sure to win!

You're a spineless, pale pathetic lot

And you haven't got a clue

    Somehow I'll...make a man...out of you!

I'm never gonna catch my breath!

Say goodbye to those who knew me!

Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym!

This guy's got 'em scared to death!

Hope he doesn't see right through me!

Now I really wish that I knew how to swim!

    BE A MAN!

WE MUST BE SWIFT AS THE COURSING RIVER

    BE A MAN!

WITH ALL THE FORCE OF A GREAT TYPHOON

    BE A MAN!

WITH ALL THE STRENGTH OF A RAGING FIRE

MYSTERIOUS AS THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON!

Time is racing toward us - till the Huns! Arrive!

Heed my every order...and you might! Survive!

You're unsuited for the rage of war

So pack up! Go home! You're through!

    How could I...make a man...out of you?

    BE A MAN!

WE MUST BE SWIFT AS THE COURSING RIVER

    BE A MAN!

WITH ALL THE FORCE OF A GREAT TYPHOON

    BE A MAN!

WITH ALL THE STRENGTH OF A RAGING FIRE

MYSTERIOUS AS THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON!

    BE A MAN!

WE MUST BE SWIFT AS THE COURSING RIVER

    BE A MAN!

MYSTERIOUS AS THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

My definition is cooler than yours.

  3. From this data, a logical hypothesis is formed where one can assume a greater truth that governs the observed patterns.

In the pursuit of knowledge, one must ask why things are the way they have been observed.

Put simply, the Scientific Method is logic.

Your preference for longwindedness nonwithstanding, there is no reason whatsoever to take notes like this. It's slow to write, doesn't get to the point, and uses phrases like "put simply" that sound nice, but have no function, and only serve to distract you while your teacher talks.

  4. I disagree. Notes can be as disjointed and as incomprehensible as you like, because they only matter to one person, and that is you. Make them as pretty as you like, but all you're left with is wasted effort. All notes ever do is relay information to you. Spend all the time you like making your notes look like an essay, but it's all futile, because you're the only one impressed by them. Intellectually, you're just playing with yourself. Spend all that wasted note essay time on something worth your time. Like, I don't know, an ACTUAL essay.

Although, to be fair, your notes aren't like an essay at all. They're just unnecessarily wordy and don't get to the point of their own existence.

  5. Except that up until now it has always been a cultural event. It was one way that people interacted with each other as part of there cultural heritage. The middle school I mentioned is only an example.

How do you know that the people committing hate crimes against homos aren't psychopaths? I know you're going to say, "They aren't," but really? You don't know. The news only reports the bad cases, the exceptions. Not the rules. Whatever event is in the news needs to be taken with a grain of salt and thought of as an outlier. 9/11 attacks certainly aren't the rule. Bank robberies don't happen down every street. Hate crimes don't happen to everybody. This only seems to be true because it's an issue that you notice easily.

Yes, but there isn't an entire social movement dedicated to denying rights to heterosexuals. No one hides their heterosexuality out of shame or fear.

  6. You say "traditional people" like being LGBT is anything new. It predates a LOT of stuff. Educate yourself.

While it does date a while back, it's always been a social thing. Heck, a middle school in my county went through a trend (just like goth, emo, prep, etc) where a bunch of kids were bi. It is just a social trend. Eventually people will get bored of it and grumble about something else.

And as for the hate crimes against heteros argument, I'm sure there are some. It's just that the media reports what the squeaky wheel does. Saying that there have been no hate crimes against heteros is naive.

And, for the most part people don't care. We don't want to know what you do with your significant other (hetero or homo), we don't care about your nightlife. There's a reason why PDAs are discouraged.

Excuse me? What part of the thousands of years of history behind people being gay makes it a "social trend"? It's always been here, it's never going away. It's just gaining support as a social movement because times are changing. Like the Civil Rights movement in the 60s.

No, thinking hate crimes against heteros are anything but a negligible minority is naive. Heterosexual people are not the ones in any sort of danger, despite what one or two psychopaths may have done.

If that was the case, there would be no problem. But all the laws denying rights to LGBT couples say that people really DO care, way too much.

  7. I try to make a case for us traditional people and I get mocked.

    Mm, should've expected it. *shrug*

As for Tom, I'm glad you're willing to respond civilly. :)

It's simply not a natural event, not something man was made for. So, yeah, I'm not that comfortable with it. Hate the sin, love the sinner and all that.

    :w:

You say "traditional people" like being LGBT is anything new. It predates a LOT of stuff. Educate yourself.

Also, just as a blanket message: Asking why there's no day of respect for hetero people is utterly missing the point. Hetero people don't DESERVE a day of respect, because hetero people haven't had to overcome hardships or discrimination for who they are. No one has ever had to pretend to be gay for fear of being lynched. No one is trying to pass laws trying to deny hetero people basic rights. Hetero people don't get a day of respect because there's nothing to celebrate, unless you want to celebrate quashing the lives and rights of others. You don't have to do anything for Day of Silence if that's your prerogative, but asking to be acknowledged for overcoming absolutely no hardships whatsoever is just crude.

  8. That looks a lot better.

(and no, I did not actually cut an Olmak. The wonders of Photoshop.)

Good, the punishment would've been death.

For any of the older masks, maybe. An Olmak? Maybe public flogging, but not death.

    Hmm, you're right.

Now if it was a sterling silver krana he cut...

That would only be acceptable if he did it with his bare hands, because that would be manly as all Karzahni.

I agree with ToM about the Legends lacking the uniqueness that made the Glatorian awesome. The Glatorian each had a theme to them that you can tell the set designers ran with. The Legends are an unfortunate return to the aesthetic we saw in 2008, where a few unique parts were enough to differentiate a set. There's some good points here, of course, but they're nowhere near as overall exciting as the Glatorian.

Even with the Mata red, I just can't get excited about Ackar. He's so...uncreative. He's an Inika. Yeah, old-school colors are pretty sweet, but they're not enough to make a set. For the record, though, I'm perfectly fine with reusing Berix's helmet. It looks good on Ackar.

Kiina...I'm just not sure about. Her feminine torso is AMAZING, but the lanky arms and legs are not only overdone, they throw her proportions way off. I dunno, her whole body just looks awkwardly put together, aside from the torso. Also, those leg spikes are going to look ridiculous when she stands up straight.

Gelu makes me mad. He does so many things right. The mask is staggeringly cool, and the color scheme works so much better than Strakk's. However, compared to Strakk...he's an Inika. They tried their hardest to differentiate the Glatorian with unique builds, but Gelu is structurally uncreative. The snowflake arms don't help much. And I really disagree with those who like his weapon--it's stubby and strange-looking. But that mask...that mask almost makes him all worth it.

I just can't figure out Vastus. He's not bad in terms of how he's put together, but...he's just kind of ugly. His mask gives him a weirdly snooty expression (edit: compare his facial structure to this guy), he's got weird vine things sticking out in certain places but not others, and he's got those awkward Hordika legs again. The scythe is neat, and I like how it's put together. The Inika thigh on his abs gives him a much-needed bit of uniqueness. The open back would be really awkward, but for once, the Glatorian counter fills him out nicely. Mostly, I agree with ToM. If he had more vine things on his body, he'd look a lot better. Like this, he's a robot with wiggly bits.

Kumquat Nui. Can't unsee. Seriously, even a change as subtle as this to the Ignika's shape makes it look kinda silly compared to its old self. The flat top could easily have been preserved--just look at Vorox. Giving him a round head sort of throws off the whole balance of the mask. But anyway, the set itself is pretty nice. The Matoro shoulders on his thighs are a nicely unique touch, and the torso is fairly pleasingly proportioned. The yellow-black color scheme is a little odd--more black and less yellow would make him seem less bright--but overall, he's nicely put together as a black Glatorian with yellow armor. I don't like using his weapons as shoulder pads, but they don't look bad. His actual weapon, though, is really awkward, even with the inherent UDD parallel. I mean, how would you fight with that? It's not like you can fight two people at once with the two sides to it, it's too short. It's just...a thing. He's holding a giant thing with pointy bits poking out. Sure, he could put someone's eye out with it if he's not careful, but it doesn't exactly lend itself to the whole "legendary warrior" thing. He can't even swing it properly, due to how it's held. Excalibur it ain't. Also, yes, gold WOULD have been better, but it was apparently never a part of the design process, so I'm trying to ignore that.

Now for Stronius. Stronius is a good set. Stronius is a very good set. See, the problem with Vastus, Strakk, and Gelu is that they assume a mask and shoulders that match are enough to tie together a set nicely. Stronius proves them all wrong with minimal use of new pieces. The stubby spikes all over his head, shoulders, chest, thighs, and club all match. They fit together so well, they make him look like all his pieces could be uniquely made for him. He clearly looks like a Skrall, thanks to his head, but he's in no way a clone. Plus, the dark red makes it clear that he's his own creature, not just another Skrall. I'll admit the club is a bit strange, simply because clubs are awkward weapons as a rule, but I can forgive him that simply because he looks so cool. I am buying that set. No question.

To finish up, I want to rebut something ToM said about the Thornax. I love the Thornax. I wouldn't mind seeing them again next year. They just work so well. Not only are they easy to use, well designed, and light enough not to hinder posing, but THEY'RE UNOBTRUSIVE. If the designers have to come up with a new gimmicky way of shooting a projectile with every single wave, they're going to eventually run out of ideas and we're going to get more ridiculous things like the Cordak and Nynrah. The Thornax make perfect sense in the story, look absolutely fine when held by ANYONE, and don't distract from the real set. The launchers have always been an afterthought for me, and I absolutely welcome the return of something as unobtrusive and simple as the Thornax.

  10. Over the years I've been on BZP, I've had a lot of problems with the management of this site, as well as the general way it's run as a whole, which I've expressed in a fashion I'm sure can only be described as "annoyingly vocal"...yet you were one of the few staff members I really liked. It's really a shame to see you step down, especially as a response to people criticizing the job you do. You'll be missed.

  11. Hm...interesting. How is the Shelek different from the Makuta's Silence power, though? Or were you going for a "see no evil/hear no evil/speak no evil" theme for Chirox?

Oh, and how is Shelek pronounced, so we can put it on BS01?

EDIT: This reminds me--does this mean you can confirm Mutran also wears a Shelek?

  12. Ichigo'd just go Bankai, put on his Hollow mask, and slice both of them into bite-sized pieces 150 times within the span of ten seconds.

Logic fails, as Inuyasha and Cloud aren't hollows.

Hollows can harm real-world humans, even though they're spirit beings. Remember when Orihime's brother pulled her out of the way of a car? They just avoid attacking humans (mostly) because it's easier to go after already-disembodied souls. Why couldn't Vizards do the same?

(And that's just another advantage Ichigo would have. Invisibility, seeing as he'd be a spirit being.)

  13. Honestly, I'd say Ichigo. Inuyasha would have to waste way too much time announcing his Kaze no Kizu to hit him, and Cloud would just stand completely motionless waiting for the others to make their moves before taking a turn. Ichigo'd just go Bankai, put on his Hollow mask, and slice both of them into bite-sized pieces 150 times within the span of ten seconds.

  14. Well, these are some very cool ideas, T-Hybrid. I only have two suggestions about the mask powers: First, it seems to me that Detection and Water Breathing would make more sense as a mask of Sonar, allowing the user to detect the positions of moving objects by sensing vibrations through air (the power would work better underwater, since water is more dense and therefore more sensitive to vibrations). Manipulation seems a little too much like Mind Control to me. Also...can't Gluko already control air with his thoughts? He is the Toa of Air, after all. Couldn't Levitation and Telepathy make some sort of Meditation power? The user would start concentratind deeply, hover a few inches off the ground, and gain some new insight into the world around him...but what? Any ideas? I dunno, I'm just flinging random thoughts in your general direction. Nice place you've got here. Cozy. Keep up the interesting work!
