  1. Barely related, but have you watched the Monster Factory series?
  2. Distorted

    He Lives!

You've still got your blog here too?
  3. Cute! Nice use of the Nexo Knights shields as shaping around the clock face. There's not really anything I would change about this - good luck in the contest!
  4. Good to see you're still around, Flintsmith! Have you made/will you be making any G2 metal masks?
  5. Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I'm thinking about building a digital copy in LDD or Stud.io and sharing the file in the near future - but in the meantime, here's a quick breakdown of the Tarakava's build. Thanks Chro. It's weird; some people think Gali sucks, some people think Nokama sucks. For what it's worth, Nokama was kind of an afterthought (as was the Tarakava) and I'd like to redesign her so she matches the scale/style of Gali more closely. That's actually not a bad idea - I'm not sure if I could pull it off, though. We'll see! I've posted a breakdown of the Tarakava build - there's a link above. I'd love to see someone build a Sand Tarakava using my design. It's interesting that it reminds you of the Adventurers sets - I vaguely remember seeing them in catalogs as a kid. I think the Atlantis theme might have been a closer influence though!
  6. What Bfahome said, but I'd like to add this: While not a CCBS line, the new Nexo Knights battle suit figures are clearly aiming for the same 'buildable action figure' market, so perhaps they're the intended stopgap while Lego works on new CCBS sets.
  7. Toa Gali and Turaga Nokama investigate the mysterious temple on the shores of Naho Bay - but they're ambushed by an angry Tarakava! Help Gali defeat the dangerous Rahi and discover the the secrets of the Bohrok Sea Temple! - Raise and lower the temple door! - Pull out the back axles to make the pillars collapse! - Includes Toa Gali, Turaga Nokama and Tarakava minifigures! - Set contains 366 pieces - RRP $34.99 - Built for a contest on another Bionicle fansite where the challenge is to create a feasible Bionicle set using mainly System elements. Wanted to do a few entries but unfotunately ran out of time. Also, I know the Photoshopping isn't great, but given my newbish skills and time constraints I'm really happy happy with how it turned out. Let me know your thoughts!
  8. Looks awesome. Finish it and enter it in my Flickr contest!
  9. >who_knows >what_secrets >it_might_host >_ - Threw this together as part of a group 'cyberpunk' project. It ended up getting a lot more attention on Flickr than I thought it would, so I've posted it here too.
  10. Saw these guys on Flickr earlier! Nice work - not terribly complex builds, but certainly original and full of character. I'm guessing the mouths are handmade stickers? Would have preferred to see official stickers for the mouths but that's just the snooty purist in me talking.
  11. Umbra. I know you said no characters, but he's essentially an extra from Starlight Express, in a universe where wheels supposedly don't exist, and they put him in charge of guarding the Ignika. I also think all the time travel/alternate universe plotlines are ridiculously convoluted. Come to think of it, the story serials in general are ridiculously convoluted. EDIT: One more - the idea that the Red Star revives dead characters makes death completely pointless in the Bionicle universe.
  12. Sadly not; Lego has confirmed there will be no more updates for LDD. EDIT: Sorry for the misinformation - apparently they'll still be adding new elements "from time to time".
  13. I'm super happy that things are getting better for you! Keep us updated!
  14. I use a couple of Metz mecalight LED-480 units, but you can find similar LED units from other manufacturers. You do need to watch out for shadows - LED units cast weird shadows because each little bulb casts its own individual shadow, which is probably why they came with filters.
  15. Really awesome work. I had a hard time figuring out which parts were assets from MNOG and which parts you made yourself, which speaks volumes about how authentic it all was. I also liked how it told a good story - I'd go so far as to say that the storytelling here was less awkward than many of the original animations. The one criticism I have is that the new music featured doesn't have the compression of the old music, so it sticks out quite a bit. I would have preferred to hear the old SFX and music recreated, or at least have a compression effect on the new music. The style of the new music definitely fits perfectly, though.
  16. Thanks. Is it the System slopes on the shoulders that make it look hunched? For the lighting, I just used a couple of LED box lights which came with attachable dispersion filters in clear white and clear orange. One light has the white filters attached and the other has the orange filters. Then I just experimented with the placement of the lights until I got something good. (The background is just a big piece of grey card.) I also added some subtle photo editing - mostly reducing the contrast so that the white light reflecting off the hand on the left wasn't so harsh. (I used a similar lighting setup for my Manas build.) Thanks. I'm surprised the grey Hau has gone down well! I would have bought an infected one (plus some black Technic right angled joints rather than the grey ones I'm using here) but I already spent a fair bit getting the parts to build this and I couldn't really justify the price. An infected Hau is expensive for what it is, yo. - Thanks for all the positive feedback, guys!
  17. Didn't have the time or the inspiration to build a real Makuta, so instead, here's a G2-inspired remake of the Matoran-form Makuta from MNOLG.
  18. "UNESCO officials are due to vote on whether or not to revoke the operating licence of the infamous BERG-LNZ Laboratory." "Back in June, inspectors published a damning report on the facility, citing 'serious concerns about unethical practices and staff safety'." "It's the latest controversy for the laboratory, which has attracted persistent criticism since its takeover by online industry tycoon Jeremy Domson-Jones in February 2019." "The vote is expected to take place on Monday." - - - In the secretive underground BERG-LNZ facility, scientists conduct mysterious experiments into particle collisions and gravity generation. But as health and safety complaints are being ignored, employees are growing angry - and some are plotting to bring the facility down from the inside... - - - Built for the Radleys Lego Laboratory contest.
  19. These tiny butterfly-like drones are the result of an experimental project to create and observe simple self-replicating biomechanical organisms. Unfortunately, following a breach at the facility where they were created, these 'iron monarch drones' escaped into the wild and began reproducing in huge, uncontrollable numbers. Efforts to cull the population have so far been unsuccessful, and the drones have become a common sight all over the globe.
  20. The smaller mandibles were honestly added as an afterthought - I was hoping to place a gear wheel there to match with the original set, but they ended up staying. As for the white Barraki mandibles, I wanted something that matched the white Gali hooks of the original but was a more modern piece and also resembled a set of mandibles more closely (as I'm assuming that's what the designers of the original set were aiming for with the hooks). Thanks for the feedback! =)
  21. A big thanks to everyone who voted for me, and to the hosts - this was a great contest with lots of great entries, and I'm buzzed that my boy Logey got third place with his stunning Bohrok reimagining. Extra special thanks to Grayson (aka Steve the Squid) for chaperoning my entry to Brickfair - you're awesome man! =D
  22. Well, high praise doesn't always mean high votes. Okay....? If High Praise doesn't equal High Votes than what does? Wouldn't the Style, Technique, and Attributing Qualities of both mean that one would get a High amount of Votes? I may have a lot of parts, but not a lot of Specific parts. What I did on the legs was very unique for what it was. And the Shield though bulky was a unique construction of both Old BIONICLE and Technic. Though be it rather simple when you actually look into it. Over all the MOC was pretty good in my eyes. I know I didn't go all out, but I use what I have when I make MOCs. I think half the trouble was the choice of entry picture. We can't really see anything of the creation in that picture, and most voters will be evaluating the entries in the polls based solely on their entry pictures. (Even if you have an entry topic with better pics, you can't guarantee that voters will see it.)
  23. Number 4 is my favourite creation in the contest, so I voted for that, but I'm also rooting for 3, 5 and 6 (and of course my own entry). Good luck people!
