  1. OOC: Yay! :lol:IC (Madrihk):Tired as he was, Madrihk didn't feel like explaining much to the Le-Matoran - especially not the part where he had been kicked out of his village - but he did so to not appear hostile. That wouldn't serve him well in a foreign land where he was way out of his element."A lot of things happened," he said, "...but only some of it is really worth mentioning. I was traveling from Ko- to Le-Wahi, but was caught a bit off-guard by the heat and density of the jungle. I spent most of my ice power making bridges across swamps and rivers, and my Kakama was of no use due to all the trees. So with only my blade left..." - Madrihk indicated the jagged piece of metal stuck on his back - "...I had next to nothing to defend myself with against the roaming Rahi. Nearly spelled the end of me."
  2. That's the point of drawing "humanized" sets. To see what they'd be like if they were.Yeah, this was sort of an exercise in drawing a character in a very different form while still keeping it recognizable. Smooth, sleek lines, combined with narrow shoulders usually make for a good female, without the need to add too many... er, curves.
  3. The tail being visible is just about the only thing that balances the power, actually. 100% invisibility plus the ability to attack with no indication except sound? Look at how clueless bots are because you are invisible. You can attack them at will and they don't care. I know, once I get the spine change settings done the Kanohi box will change to a "spine" box for the Rahkshi, so that you can change the style and color.
  4. The format for links are [url=http://www.bzpower.com]This is a link to BZPower[/url]Which will produce this:This is a link to BZPower If you want an image link, you would put the image tags where the link title is.[url=http://www.bzpower.com][img=imageURLhere][/url]
  5. So, after I drew a Lehvak Va in more humanoid form, I felt like trying the other Va as well. Out of the ones I've drawn, Gahlok Va was the only one that really looked good to me. So here she is. She may be a humble scout for the horde, but I'd advice you to not take her lightly as long as she's got that hook!
  6. IC (Madrihk): If anyone had looked closely at the otherwise barren ice plains of Ko-Wahi, near where the region met the swamps and jungle of Le-Wahi, they would maybe have spotted a Toa of Ice walking alone. Madrihk had no set destination in mind, but the jungle certainly seemed inviting right now. While he was a Toa of Ice, he wasn't very fond of all the snow and ice and quietness on the mountain. It was... boring. It was therefore with a smile of delight that he finally came across some vegetation, though it was on the other end of a wide body of water flowing in from the ocean. Madrihk made his way across by creating a bridge with his ice powers. Being careful not to draw the attention of any roaming Rahi, he continued through the thick forest ahead. If he was lucky, he would find a village soon. If not, he would have to make camp elsewhere. After wandering for hours on end, Madrihk reached another river, this one in a quite swampy area. Sighing in frustration, he froze himself another bridge. He could feel the drain on his energy reserves, and it was almost as if the heat of the jungle was sucking even more out of him than usual. When Madrihk reached Le-Koro, the villagers were therefore met with a bruised and battered Toa panting for air. After the long trip, where he had narrowly avoided becoming Rahi food more than once, Madrihk was too exhausted to even think straight. He bumped into the first person he saw and asked:"Hey, pal, I'm kind of in a pinch, here. Do you know where I can get some rest?" OOC: Any player currently in Le-Koro, feel free to be the nameless guy. I've just joined here, so I'm trying to get some interaction going.
  7. If the movies are anything to go by, then male and female Toa look different: http://biosector01.com/wiki/index.php/File:Movie_Toa_Nuva_Pohatu_Gali_Tahu.pngI don't know about Skakdi, but I would think that if people can tell the difference between a male and female Makuta, then surely at least the voice would give Vezok away as male. It doesn't matter, though, since it has already been stated that the Voya Nui Matoran had never seen Toa before and thus didn't know what to expect. For all we know, they may have thought they were a separate race altogether.
  8. I've made a gameplay trailer, though it uses added music instead of in-game sound effects. It's also of rather low video quality, but chalk that up to me being terrible at proper video resizing. You can find it on that-well-known-video-site-we-unfortunately-can't-link-to, under the name "BIONICLE Fighter v9.0 trailer". Actually, just Google that exact sentence and you will find it. If you hear and see sparks, then the hit stunned you. If not, then you might still be stuck in the previous stun. It's meant to last only a second, but I might have mistyped something again. It happens a lot during testing, and then I think I got everything under control, and then you guys start reporting errors.
  9. IC (Madrihk): Ko-Koro was usually a quiet place. The Matoran living there were scholars, historians and scientists, not miners or fighters like the other villages. Today, however, there was a bit of a ruckus near the village temple. A Toa of Ice, wearing black armor and carrying a jagged blade, had been caught stealing from a merchant. Though that was usually not a terrible crime, further investigation and led to the discovery of a veritable pile of goods in the Toa's hut, looted from a few travelers that had recently gone missing. It was eventually revealed that the Toa had murdered them, and this left the villagers in a pinch: Toa and Matoran did not kill, but Ko-Koro did not have anything else that was fitting to do with the criminal either. After a heated discussion, the Toa of Ice was exiled from Ko-Koro, cast out to fend for himself on an island filled with danger. The Toa's name was Madrihk, and he did not care. Walking down the snowy slopes of Mt. Ihu, away from his former home, only one thought filled his head: "I don't need them." Madrihk had an ambition: He would become a powerful Toa, a leader. He would have his own army and conquer a land for himself where he could make the laws. With that goal, he set out to follow the coast in the rough direction of Le-Wahi. OOC: Yeah, this was just my introductory post, which I thought I should place in its corresponding topic. Character going to Le-Wahi.
  10. Name: Madrihk (MAD-rikk)Species: ToaGender: MaleElemental power: Ice, with all the abilities that bringsKanohi: Kakama (Mask of Speed)Other equipment: Jagged blade, wrist-mounted poison spikeAppearance:(Image here)A regular Toa, slightly taller than average, but also a bit thinner. Madrihk's body is predominantly white, but his armor strongly contrasts this, as it is pitch black. Madrihk prefers to be mobile, and thus his armor is not very thick or bulky. His face often bears a menacing smirk, and his eyes are blue like most Ice Toa's. While Madrihk isn't all that different from other Toa of Ice, he can be easily recognized by his more enthusiastic mannerisms, as well as a few cracks running around his mask's left eye hole. They are the result of a hit from a Nui-Rama's stinger some time in the past. Though the actual damage has been mended by a skilled forger, the seams are still visible. On his right hand, all fingers except the thumb are purely mechanical, after the originals was lost to a Rahkshi. The replacements work decently, but Madrihk doesn't really trust them yet given his inexperience with them.Alignment: Lawful EvilHome: Ko-Koro, though he has been driven out and is not viewed kindly by the people living there.Personality and traits:Madrihk cares mostly for his own goals and purposes, but will cooperate with others as long as it gains him. He will not hesitate to use a dirty trick or two, but he can be counted on to honor a promise if he ever makes one.His mannerisms are not as stiff and unfriendly as many Ko-Matoran may appear to be, but this is a front meant to lull enemies into a false sense of security. Madrihk does not care for others, and is reluctant to make allies unless he is the one in control.Madrihk's greatest ambition in life is to rule as a competent "evil overlord", though his success so far has been minor. Though he almost managed to insert himself as leader of a small region after conflict had left it empty and ripe for the picking, things turned for the worse when a sudden Rahi invasion knocked him down a few notches. He is currently wandering the land and building a new settlement, looking for recruits for an army so that he can conquer a domain by force or influence... whichever comes first.Skills:Madrihk is relatively skilled in hand-to-hand combat, but he prefers to avoid a straight fight if possible. For this reason, he wears a Kakama, so that he can either get close to or behind his opponent in a flash and strike quickly. Attached to his left wrist was a simple metal spike. It had been laced with poison, taken from a dead Lehrak Madrihk was lucky enough to stumble over. Every time it was used the spike needed to be dipped in poison again, however, and eventually Madrihk got the spike replaced with a retractable blade that fulfills much of the same purpose.Weaknesses:Madrihk cannot hold his own in combat for long against more than one enemy at a time. He is a good tactical thinker and a skilled duelist when it comes to close range combat, but he doesn't have the sheer strength and stamina needed to stay in combat for extended period of time. In a fight, he will therefore be looking for a single target to take down quickly.Unlike most aspiring overlords, Madrihk's greatest character flaw is not his pride or greed or arrogance, but his natural Ko-Matoran instinct of solitude. He is reluctant to make friends or allies unless he gets to be in charge, which means that he might pass up an otherwise good deal if forced into a lower rank on the chain of command. Still, he realizes that he needs an army if he's ever to become a powerful leader. This leaves him conflicted, and confused of how to handle everyone when he actually has allies. In stressful moments he has a tendency to become easily agitated.History:See the wiki for details.Current status:- Organizing the construction of "Pala-Koro" by Lake Pala in Le-Wahi.- Planning a trip to Xa-Koro to expand ILS influence.- In Ko-Wahi, negotiating the release of Matoran in a hostage situation.-----Name: Mevi (MEVV-ih)Species: MatoranGender: FemaleElemental power: FireKanohi: AkakuOther equipment: Spear, Ta-Koronan shieldAppearance:(Image here)A red and orange Matoran wearing an Akaku. Her eyes and scope lenses shine yellow. Mevi's weapon originally looked like a spear/axe hybrid, though the axe blade was rather small. The weapon was meant more for stabbing than slashing. During the assault on the Nui-Rama hive in Le-Wahi, Mevi lost her halberd but had it replaced by a spear handed to her by the Ko-Matoran Trakuda.Alignment: Neutral GoodHome: Ta-KoroPersonality and traits: Mevi is a good-natured Matoran, valuing teamwork and friendship rather than war and conflict. Even so, she is not afraid to take to arms against hostile forces such as Makuta's Rahi. She also detests truly evil beings and will do her best to capture or kill them.Skills: Mevi is a member of the Ta-Koro guard, with her position being scout. As such she's decent in combat, but prefers to stay out of fights if possible. If forced to battle, Mevi will use her long weapon to keep enemies away from her. Though her Akaku is powerless, the attached scope can still be used for magnification. Mevi is also good at diplomatic solutions, but is always prepared to take a stab if needed.Weaknesses: Being a Matoran, Mevi is weak alone. She has no elemental powers and her short stature means she's easy prey for taller beings such as Toa, Skakdi, Rahkshi, Muaka and Tarakava. Her spear/axe helps her keep them at bay, but in general she will be better of running.History:See the wiki for details.Current status:Pala-Koro, fending off attackers.-----Name: Naru (NAH-rue)Species: ToaGender: FemaleElemental power: PlasmaKanohi: FaxonOther equipment: Knives. Lots and lots of knives.Appearance: Metru-styled Toa body with orange armor, secondary color white. Green eyes. Naru also wears two shoulder straps in an X across her chest. These are used to hold her knives in addition to two belts around her waist.Alignment: Chaotic NeutralHome: UnknownPersonality and traits: Naru loves combat, and will often be the one to initiate it. She is obsessed with sharp, pointy objects and gets a kick out of action and explosions. She also likes seeing cool stunts, but as she is a bit weighed down with all the knives she carries she can't go jumping around herself. She feels at home in Ta-Koro due to the heat, but has been wandering around Po-Koro for a while, where she practices her Plasma skills in the desert. She has a certain fascination with technology, particularly foreign stuff such as that of Xia.Skills: Until she can get her hands on a Calix, Naru is the "big guns" in any given fight, either melting any obstance to slag or turning her opponent into a pincushion with expertly thrown daggers. She uses her mask to smooth out her own weaknesses by lending powers from other creatures, though she can naturally only use one at a time. She likes to heat her daggers before use, both to cut through armor and because it simply makes them look cool and glowing.Weaknesses: Naru can be reckless at times and has a tendency to be overly confident. Naru is a bit slow on the move, but tries to make up for it with sheer power and ranged weaponry. She also wastes a lot of energy when she carelessly sprays her element around instead of focusing it more.History:See the wiki for details.Current status:In Po-Koro along with Zauk, trying to find a Toa of Stone.-----Name: Ferrin (FER-inn)Species: ToaGender: MaleElemental power: IronKanohi: HauOther equipment: Spiked maceAppearance: A muscular Toa in pitch-black armor, with just a few hints of metallic gray here and there. His eyes are orange, setting him slightly apart from most Toa of Earth and the rumored Toa of Shadows. The arms and knees of his armor are lined with spikes, which Ferrin uses to cause extra damage with melee strikes. Ferrin also wields a wicked, spiky mace that he uses along with his elemental power to crush those who oppose him.Alignment: Neutral Evil.Home: Onu-Koro, though he relocated permanently to the Kumu Islets after starting his business.Personality and traits: Ferrin is a ruthless crime lord, operating from a base somewhere near the lawless and terribly dangerous Kumu Islets. He and his gang are some of the few beings that dare venture into the swamps, where mutated Rahi dwell. At this point it is mostly the Rahi who fear Ferrin, however, given their past experiences with him. Ferrin's main business consists of selling various illegal goods, though he's not afraid to engage in direct theft, piracy and hired murders. Those who cross him or his gang usually ends up dead, often at Ferrin's own hands. When settling business, he usually works alone, and only brings in his gang when he needs cargo to be hauled or some dirty work done that he doesn't feel like doing himself.Skills: Extremely strong and burly, Ferrin is capable of wrestling his way through several foes at once. His preferred method of attack is to use his iron powers to open the battle, then finish his opponent off with a blow of his mace. If needed, he can trigger his Kanohi Hau to protect himself against attacks.Weaknesses: Ferrin relies on close-range attacks to do the most damage, meaning that he can be held off at range. His mask is meant to counter this weakness, but it is not perfect, as he still can't protect himself from elemental attacks from behind, and Ferrin's not too good at focusing mask powers. He prefers to let brute force do the job.History:- After Madrihk and co. attacked his trade business, Ferrin went to Le-Koro to search for them.- In Le-Koro he met up with Solia, Onyx and a few other Toa. The captured D, a former employee of his, lead Ferrin and co. to Lake Pala.- After a brutal fight with the Island Liberation Squad, Ferrin was killed. His smuggling business in Xa-Koro continued on its own, though lacking a true leader its influence shrunk.Current status:Dead. Executed by Onyx after trying to fight Madrihk, Alfon, Vompran, Lezuu, Onyx and Kethrye all at once near Lake Pala.-----Name: Mita (MII-tah)Species: ToaGender: FemaleElemental power: SonicsKanohi: MahikiOther equipment: (Greatly) reinforced steel guitarAppearance: A slender Toa in silver and black armor, with yellow eyes. Her Mahiki has been modifed to include headset cups, making the earpieces more spherical than flat.Alignment: Neutral GoodHome: Le-KoroPersonality and traits: Mita is a traveling entertainer that isn't all that invested in the whole good-vs-evil thing going on. She generally stays within the villages and avoids conflict, prefering to spend her time brighting the day of others. Her Toa Tool is a standard acoustic guitar made of metallic protodermis, which means that it can take a lot of abuse before breaking as well as being able to channel Mita's sonic powers. She uses this to great effect when performing, naturally amplifying her own music. Mita loves her work, and may sometimes be a bit pushy when it comes to singing at inappropriate times. The few times she has been in combat, she has always just stood back and provided "morale boosts" in the form of music, keeping her pacifist nature while still not being entirely useless.Skills: Mita has great musical talent and much experience with manipulating sound. Her usually happy mood can help with cheering other people up. Being a Toa of Sonics, Mita also has very enhanced hearing.Weaknesses: Unlike most Toa of Sonics, Mita hasn't overcome her Matoran over-sensitivity to sound, which is why she wears a headset while performing to dampen the effect. The downside to this is that her hearing is then reduced at all times, meaning it might be a bit hard for her to quite catch all that is said to her. Mita also has zero combat experience, as she has never attacked another living being. In a pinch she can bash someone over the head with her guitar, though you would be hard-pressed to see this.HistorySee the wiki for details.Current status:- Searching for a Sand Tarakava's nest in the Motara Desert; along with LoJak and "Hunter".
  11. I love Garry's, even though I'm pretty bad at it. I like messing around with physics and NPCs. I tried making my own super-villain lair once, but unfortunately it collapsed after I failed to weld things together properly (spawning a thruster and using it for a crushing trap ended in disaster as well when it decided to go haywire and destroy my non-welded floors ).
  12. Correct, there would be either a teleporter or a jump pads, most likely the former. I might end up creating a lift pillar similar to the one Takua used to get into Mangaia in the MNOG, though. There will be no transformation, only death. Only destined beings transform, and those are few and far between. Besides, random events with major impacts like that are not good for gameplay. Pillars might be destructible, but I can guarantee that they will not spawn Rahkshi. Too chaotic. Nui-Rama are already enough of a menace in Karda Nui if I'm not going to spawn full-fledged Rahkshi as well. There are hit sounds, but I agree, there needs to be a bit more feedback. I've been working on a screen edge effect to show that you are getting hurt, but now that I've run into the view zoom problem (the HUD and text gets scaled) I need to fix that first. Screen shakes will most likely make it in as well, for explosions and fall damage.Enemy players that get hit may end up flashing red or white as well, like in Zelda. In lieu of health bars visible to everyone I've also considered adding floating damage numbers like TF2. I have the code ready for this, but I haven't implemented it yet. All these effects would be optional, of course. Yeah, I still have to make equipment show up in the preview window. I thought the descriptions were pretty straight-forward, though. "Kaukau: Breathe freely underwater." "Huna: Makes the wearer completely invisible." "Jutlin: Corrodes metal objects, weapons and armor." Right now it's Windows only. Game Maker has a Mac version as well, but I haven't got access to that and I don't think I can simply convert my files anyways. There is now a version that can export to various formats such as Android/iPhone apps, and one that can export to HTML5, but those are separate programs and not something I'll invest in right now. Yeah, I'll most likely add some Rahi spawn points to the edges of the map. There won't be a random chance of super-powers. The Protodermis serves as the map border and will be set to kill any player instantly regardless of HP, like the Codrex field. I believe WINE would work, but I can't say for sure since I haven't tested it either.
  13. In our world, lasers are the same as light. Since BIONICLE physics usually follows our physics, it stands to reason that lasers would be the same. But still: Elemental Light seems different.Heat vision and laser vision are two different powers, by the way.
  14. Has anyone seen the vid with that guy who's made retro 2D side-scrolling TF2 arcade game? It looked pretty good.
  15. Ah, yes, Mangaia. Flat, dark and boring, I know. When that map is done it's supposed to be more like this: I got the sketches ready, but making them into a full map takes time; time I spent on coding flashy elements and making Ta-Koro instead. Note that Ta-Koro isn't done either, signified by the construction sign and scaffolding I place there instead of a fortress.
  16. The layout is so-and-so. It's standard; I miss the good ol' BZP skin and fonts. I'm more concerned about the software itself, though, for it has given me a lot of trouble. Random log-outs, huge blocks of text appearing at the end of my posts, the rich text editor messing with every formatting thing I try to do, me not getting Topic Subscription Reply Notifications at all any more... I'm hoping this will all be ironed out soon enough.
  17. The problem with it currently is the instant stun glitch that occurs with bots. If you get attacked by Shadow yourself you will see that the effect is meant to be much more gradual. So yeah, once I fix that its power should be fine.
  18. Super-focused elemental light equals a laser made of elemental light.Laser Vision equals a laser made of non-elemental light. Makuta get hurt by the former, but not the latter.
  19. "Jump off a bridge?" I'm not exactly doing extreme things like removing the ability to jump or give everyone insta-kill powers here. I am analyzing the affect life bars has on a player's strategy and making an educated guess as to which option would be best. The decision I've made doesn't really fit into the bridge-jumping metaphor at all. It describes doing something (in most cases) self-damaging due to peer pressure. I believe the tornado attack does slight damage to Nui-Rama, but it generally won't them kill outright. They don't get thrown around because of their movement script overriding the tornado's, but I'm working on fixing that. Right now my "fix list" has round 40 entries, with both tiny and large impacts on the game and its coding. This list does not include missing powers and the likes. It'll take a while to get through it, and since I got some important school work to do (*shudder*) it will take even longer. And BAAAH, I haven't even started multiplayer yet. Darn it.
  20. In the BIONICLE universe, regular shadows, moral "shadow" and elemental shadow are basically separate things. It stands to reason that regular light, elemental light and moral "light" would be as well. Makuta are not hurt by standing in the sun. Elemental light is a different story, but "just" a laser doesn't seem to be the same thing. In any case, elemental powers flow through the user. "Standard" powers like laser vision apparently doesn't, because I have a hard time seeing "laser power" float around inside a Makuta. The lasers are shot from the eyes, but that doesn't necessarily mean harmful light has to be condensed within them.
  21. The files have been placed in my usual download spot (in a custom folder right on the desktop) and I haven't got User Account Control or anything like that running. I am also an admin of my own computer, with full access to most things. I've never bothered to let my computer tell me what to do, and I'm not afraid of viruses from things I've already manually downloaded and scanned. The only thing I can think of right now is that my system locale is set to "Norwegian". I know I've had problem with running some foreign programs (mostly Japanese and Chinese, though) due to the special characters; but Norwegian uses the same charset as English computers, so...I'll try changing my locale the next time I restart.
  22. Yeah, the backpack was kind of inspired by both Ghostbusters, TF2 and other backpack-wielded items. I mean tfor this to be just two batteries in a clamp, though, not anything fancy. The smusged outlines are the result of "refining" my sketch with a Reduce Noise filter at max strength. It removes the pencil graininess.
  23. As good as every multiplayer game I see doesn't show life bars, so I'm not really worried. Ah, you're right. Note that Light flares do, however, so it's kind of a reverse situation for them. Players have a sliding scale of "blindness", ranging from 0 to 1 in fractions. Nui-Rama, however, simply have a "stunned" variable. This will get fixed sooner or later. Yes, a Toa of Air (decreased gravity) with high VIT and DEX can survive the drop. I'm reluctant to up the fall damage even more, however, since that would make it kind of extreme for other characters on shorter drops. Toa of Gravity already do pretty heavy damage. Er. Thought I had fixed that, but apparently not. I'll have to add some invisible objects to disperse them (and also tell them to jump at the edges in Ta-Koro and avoid the high drops in Karda Nui).
  24. Given what we've seen so far, it seems rather obvious that the Makuta can keep their "cloud" together as long as it's not exposed to the elements for an extended period of time. I see "dissipating" as being more about wind and rain forcibly dispersing the gas rather than it simply being unable to hold itself together. If we go by that notion, then a few tiny gaps in the armor here and there wouldn't do all that much. Chirox began leaking after Mutran blew a hole in him, but we haven't been told the actual size of that hole. I think a small scratch would be fine, but not a large gash. I doubt the Makuta armor would have to be 100% airtight. Maxilos wasn't, and that was a decent body (though Teridax ditched it rather quickly). Interestingly enough, Makuta armor still has actual eyes that can be damaged, as evidenced by Antroz, Chirox and Vamprah. I take this to mean that they do have some sort of face built into their armor in order to wear standard masks without them falling off. It would be a bit annoying if you wanted to swap your Jutlin for a Tryna but found that the Tryna wasn't made to "fit your body" and thus left you leaking. When Takanuva tried to pry off the Krahkaan there is clearly some sort of head behind it, but it glows green, most likely "antidermis". Possibly Makuta shapeshift themselves some crude heads, but they don't bother too much about the face. The masks of the Karda Nui Makuta (especially the mutated ones) were said to be shapeshifted and looked very much like faces already. So if the Makuta uses their mask as the face and just forms the rest of the head via shapeshifting, then ripping the mask off would leave them with no face at all (just a hole ).
