  1. The file exists in the folder and I've ensured that the program is allowed to run Javascript both via Admin settings and my anti-virus/firewall. I'm running 32-bit Windows 7, if that helps.
  2. The thing about SourceForge is that it seems to be all about open-source shareware. I'm not going to release my source for this (yet, anyways), and since the source would be a *.GMK I'm not sure if it would even be accepted. When it comes to Mac/Linux support, I would love to add that, but Game Maker for Windows can't export to the needed formats. Ta-Koro is new. Thanks for your support, I hope you will enjoy this and future updates!
  3. Meh, I was "40" on many sites when I was really 15. Violence, swearing... I could take all that, so I didn't care. My point is: Having an age limit on a forum won't do anything. People will lie. Some 14-year olds write just as good as 20-year olds. Some 30-year olds write just as bad as 6-year olds. It would be very hard to determine age based on writing style. Therefore, Greg would be unable to know who he's really conversing with. In any case, Greg is presumably respected employee of the company with no bad track record regarding fan interaction. Why would they block him from talking with young fans, as he has done for so long? I find it ridiculous that he can no longer answer member questions due to this, though. Greg is basically the only source we have for official facts regarding the storyline, and now he's been cut off. The solution would be to compile member questions and have an admin mail them to him (Did they do that before the great forum Time Slip? Can't remember.) but that's a clunky solution at best.
  4. I believe just as many girls could like BIONICLE as boys. Heck, I know several girls who play "hardcore shooter games" like Counter-Strike, Battlefield and Call of Duty. Ditto for RPGs like Dragon Age, Heroes and Final Fantasy. It's not like violence, conflict and fancy powers turn girls away. The issue lies with turning young boys away, actually, due to "oh noes this robot's a girl and I don't like that". I can't remember having any problem at all with Gali being a girl (neither more feminized fan-art I saw), but I think that my 12-year old self might be a bit iffy on buying the toy if it looked like a real girl, due to the easy connection kids make with dolls. The only thing I want nowadays is that whole "one-gender element" rule to disappear. If I want a female Toa of Fire or a male Toa of Water, I'm gonna make one, but having it be canon would be nice as well. It would make room for more varied gender roles and interesting characters, I believe. Many of my favorite characters are female already, such as Lariska, Helryx, Gali and Hahli, but you can only have so many Toa of Water before the powers and mentality become "stale".
  5. Works fine on my end, so I'm at a bit of a loss here. Keep in mind that due to my current sprite setup the armor will not be visible on your character. As long as you see, say, "Nuva Armor" in the item box, it should show up in-game as one of the gray bars in the lower-left corner.
  6. It's a thick gas, as far as we've seen. Vapor, sort of. And yeah, that was Teridax in the vat. Zaktan spent a long time alone with it, as far as I know, and it was implied that he conversed with it. After the vat got broken, Axonn heard someone/something scream. Not much later, Teridax appears in the Pit. Also: The cut chapter/book that was set to take place in the cord had Teridax possess Matoro's body for a little while after Matoro used his Iden to scout, thus leaving it "empty".
  7. Each item apart from Kanohi costs 1 point to equip, so you might need to remove another item or lower one of your stats before you have enough.
  8. Try wearing some armor, it will effectively increase your health. EDIT: Why do my posts keep getting this crazy list of languages after it?
  9. Playing games or making games? Ah, the dilemma of a programmer. The former usually wins.

  10. Last year there was a relatively big RPG going on here on BZP: War Zone. Lately I decided to draw one of my characters, a Toa of Lightning named Lithree. She is very much a hero-type girl, preferring straight "good-vs-evil" matters rather than the grey morality that was all over the place in the titular war. This image is just a quick sketch. There are several things I could have done better about it, especially the line work. I was thinking of vectorizing it all that, but I felt that it would be better to simply draw a new picture later and work from scratch. That said, I still wanted to show off this one. Lithree wears a Calix, which suits her energetic combat style rather well. She tries to avoid killing where possible, and thus stamina and dodging are important skills to her. She also carries an Energy Siphon Blade, which absorbs elemental attacks. The sword has been modified with a backpack that can store additional charges, allowing Lithree to take a defensive stance in battle and also use her enemies' powers against them.
  11. When I run "engine.exe", it just tells me it can't load "titletheme.midi" then quits. All files have been extracted from the ZIP, of course. This error occurs even if I turn off sound completely via "config.exe".The exact error message is:
  12. Forums are very useful for getting proper feedback, though. With all due respect, I don't think I've ever been oblidged to make every change that gets suggested. Life bars are a major part of strategy, I know, and that's exactly why they are now gone. Let's use TF2 as an example of why. The Spy is the only class that gets the "health peep" ability by default. The Medic only gets it by equipping a special weapon. The reason for this is that seeing enemy health lets you pick your battles, and know what you are up against. Haven't we all (TF2 players, I mean) died while running away, then seen a freeze cam where your killer clearly had only a sliver of health left? "Darn," we think, "I should have shot him just once more." A wounded Soldier is still intimidating because he has a rocket launcher and you know he's one of the thoughest classes to take down one-on-one. But a Spy might see that he has about 5 HP left, then instead of running away he will casually kill the Soldier with a single revolver shot. This ability works for the Spy because the Spy is usually killed very, very quickly once discovered. Being able to know when to strike and when to run is a huge part of his gameplay. The Medic is not a direct combat class. He leads the team, somewhat, since he doesn't need to focus so much on his aim. He "just" needs to dodge and let his team handle most of the fighting. When using a microphone to direct the team, the Medic is a spotter and a strategist. He tells when to push, when to retreat and who to kill first. Without the health peep, he is already dangerous. With the health peep, he now gets to say who's the most hurt, and therefore who to aim for. A Heavy usually won't spray bullets at a fleeing person when there's another one more close by, simply because his gun is unlikely to do enough damage at far large range. But if his Medic says "that guy who runs has 20 health left, tops", then the Heavy might mow him down. This then eliminates an enemy player from the field and sticks him in respawn, instead of having him meet his own medic around the corner and be back in half the time. A major change in the flow of battle, especially if it was a combat class. Toa of Psionics don't have the sheer firepower of other elements, and might thus be a bit like the Spy. Those choosing to wear a Rode lose the potential advantages of Miru, Pakari, Kakama, etc. they trade one ability for another. This is the balancing factor. I added 150% zoom because the characters were way too small on the screen. I'll add an option to change the zoom level later, but for now it will stay like it is.Okay, good, I thought it was just my computer. The extra size is nice, but the text looks ugly.I'm working on fixing that. I thought Game Maker would do like it does with drawn shapes (doesn't scale them borders with the view), but evidently text works differently. What about Nui-Rama?IIRC, they have the same values as player bots. I'm glad to be back as well. "Camera should follow cursor" added to my list of things to do. The series has become an internet fad/meme of sorts, after it turned out people above the usual target audience age found it funny and interesting. I don't see the full appeal, but I do think a few of the jokes I've seen were funny. I remember that the BZP staff sometimes changed their usernames and avatars to match fads/memes in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did it with MLP given the attention it has gotten. Other members do it out of their own will. I'm not one to judge. I find it silly and kind of humorous, but since I'm not a big fan otherwise you won't see me with a pony avatar. It would either blind with shadow, make you transparent in dark areas or cause a weak anger/berserk effect in the target. Possibly several of these, depending on game balance. I wouldn't call it creepy, just silly; but let's keep that discussion out of this topic, all right? I know it's a can of worms on certain other forums.
  13. F2P can not trade, AFAIK, and they have less backpack space and get less drops. Note that all you need to do to not be F2P anymore is to buy a single item from the store, even if that thing is just a $0.05 standard weapon. Yes, they stack, but the effect is miniscule. When you've already switching in the fraction of a second, shaving 15% off that fraction doesn't cause any noticeable difference at all. It should probably be noted that the Flare Gun generally does what the Reserve Shooter does already. It's better for enemy Pyros since you can't ignite those, but otherwise puff+flare or puff+axtinguisher works alot better since there's a high chance of the shotgun pellets missing when the target is already flying away from you. To use the Reserve Shooter most efficiently, you need to pin targets to a close wall, and then you might as well roll with the Axtinguisher anyhow. A server is basically just a computer that is running the game 24/7. You know there's a "Create server" button on the main menu, right? By clicking that, you can set up a LAN server. Then you can execute a few console commands to make the server truly online and allow people outside your local network to connect. It should be simple enough to find a tutorial for it.Note that a proper server would need to be on 24/7 and basically only run TF2, and it most likely requires some knowledge with networking in order to get it to work the way you want it to.
  14. Life bar is where it's always been, top left corner. If you mean the stat bars of enemies, however, those are now only visible to Toa of Psionics and those wearing a Rode. I believe I stated somewhere in the old topic that was always the plan. I added 150% zoom because the characters were way too small on the screen. I'll add an option to change the zoom level later, but for now it will stay like it is. I'll make their hitboxes larger. Thank you. They still use melee animations, though, so they aren't 100% done yet. From the user or the target? They have not lost their EP, they are stunned or blinded, depending on attack. It seems like an error in the code makes them regard anything other than 0 "blind" as "can't move at all" despite me setting their threshold to around 0.9 (almost fully blinded). I'm working on fixing this. Well, it's dirt, and I threw it in just to make Earth do something. Where Iron flies in a straight line and has a delay before firing, Earth simply arcs. It was supposed to stick to the ground, but the method I used caused lag. I'll have to update that. It took some time to get decent results in After Effects, so I didn't bother to make ten different animations when I couldn't come up with ideas for more than two. It's kind of ironic that shadow blinds them instantly then, isn't it? I forgot about this, I'll fix it. You're right. I'll see about fixing that as well. Exo-Toa have their "perception" set very high. This means that unless you are completely invisible, they will see you. AI have a lower "perception", causing you to vanish for them even when a player could see you clearly.
  15. Weapon heckling. Let's be honest here: The Pyro gets mowed down by anything beyond his short range. Scouts can easily rush in for a meatshot, then retreat and spray pistol bullets. In order to deal with this, Pyro must be able to change weapons at a moment's notice, since he can't use super speed or charge ability or rocket jumps or invisibility to get close. Cue the Degreaser. It really says something about the class when its best weapon is the one that lets you switch away from it as fast as possible.Standard flamethrower is barely on par with the Syringe Gun when it comes to damage. Afterburn can be extinguished by so many things that it seldom actually kills without follow-up shots from the Shotgun or crits from the Flare Gun/Axtinguisher.Backburner and Degreaser are balanced towards each other. The BB has back crits, but if you are going to hit people in the back like that you might as well play Spy. The airblast cost makes it less useful than the Degreaser when it comes to defensive play. Degreaser is the bread-and-butter of Pyro these days because it lets him do combos. With just the flamer, Pyro is a weak Heavy with pitiful range and pathetic damage. Tomislav+GRU Heavy can actually do a lot of the things Pyro "specialize" in (ambushes, point defense, breaking up groups), except reveal spies and protect Engie nests. The Degreaser owns when coupled with the delicious Axtinguisher. 195 crit damage, and you can pull out the weapon and swing in about half a second. At melee range, it's the best. You need this when faced with Demoknights, Soldiers, etc. Taking damage from attacks even after a successful ambush is the Pyro's main weakness. Compare to most other classes, who kills fast enough to avoid retaliation. Ergo, you need the Ax to kill, or the Powerjack/Backscrather to heal. The default flamer needs a rework to be viable at all against competent foes. Sure, you can hold W+M1 and get some kills, but that goes double for Minigun and Rocket Launcher. Pyro is pretty weak once you face a competent team.
  16. You will still love it by the time you're done, I assure you. If you haven't heard the Chrono Symphonic remix album, I suggest you Google it after you've played the game. A few track titles/descriptions hold spoilers, you see. The wish I could link you to a certain great remix site, but it's got forums. You can find it via Chrono Symphonic, though.EDIT: Or I could just PM the link to anyone who wants it.

    Serenity

SerenityWhat in the blazes...? According to my mind-reading friend, that was the first thought that came to the Toa of Iron, the same moment as the molecules of everything within his immediate view suddenly decided that sticking together wasn't fun enough anymore. As the world began dissolving around him, he apparently felt an uncomfortable sensation in his abdomen, for he looked down, only to find that where there once was full plate armor and metallic protoskin, there was now a gaping hole. His last thoughts, I know nothing of, but I hope they were filled with the dawning realization of what, exactly, it was that had killed him. Do not mistake me for a sadist, though. I don't care if my victims feel pain or not, and indeed: my method of attack this day caused no pain at all. I do, however, enjoy killing in and of itself, more than your average Rahkshi. I take no prisoners. I show no mercy. Having clawed my way through a platoon of my brethren in order to secure my position within the Brotherhood's army, it is hopefully clear to everyone that I am not someone they should mess around with. I guess it is, for they tend to stay far away from me. More than once have I found myself on the battlefield with no enemies left, only to turn my anger towards my own allies. Once I start killing, I can not stop. It is physically impossible for me, for as soon as the fight is on, everything becomes a blur. A blur filled with maddened screams, metal breaking, cries of pain and occasionally wet, squishy noises. By the time I calm down, everything around me is usually dead.I am a Rahkshi of Anger. I was created from a fully developed Kraata, and so my power is at its absolute maximum. My ability is to cause anger, quarrels and conflicts amongst others. As a side effect, I am also angry, all the time. I am the most aggressive, most brutal, most crazily berserking Rahkshi you will ever meet. You would do well to fear me. My dented, scratched, scorched and otherwise abused and maimed armor was once white. Today, it's more of a worn-down silver; with sooty black and muddy brown liberally scattered across its surface: a result of charging recklessly into ranks of Toa with powers far more flashy than my own. I don't even use a staff. The one I had was first bent around a Skakdi's skull, and later broken completely when I used it to smash through a Toa of Stone's rock barrier. My left hand is missing a claw and a half, after an unfortunate run-in with a Toa of Plasma. I have been told he burned them clean off with a stream of ionized gas. Personally, I didn't even notice until much later, after I was done grinding his Kanohi mask to dust by scraping it, Toa still attached, across half a mile of rocky terrain. It helps that the only organic parts in a Rahkshi's body is the Kraata, located in the head and spine, but they say even a fully mechanical being would notice their body parts being blown off. Not me. Once my berserker side kicks in, I lose all control. If a Toa as much as glances at me, I feel compelled to attack, and I won't stop until I've had my daily dose of murder.Today, another Toa met his end at my hands. From my description of the scene, you might be wondering how I could possibly use anger to make things dissolve. Truth be told, I technically didn't. When I saw him, he was still a distance away, and I realized that charging down there would have given him enough time to rip me apart with his elemental powers. Luckily I managed to contain my rage just long enough to pry a weapon away from one of my comrades: A Rahkshi of Disintegration. He protested, but to no avail. With his staff in hand, I unleashed a wave of energy upon the general area, which spelled the end for the Toa. My blood lust satisfied, I managed to calm down enough to hand the staff back to its owner in a somewhat civilized manner. He hissed at me, but didn't dare to do anything more. For a moment, I did feel the urge to attack him as well, but once again I managed to suppress my violent emotions. That's twice in one day. New record. The third party present was a Toa of Psionics. At the time I didn't care to know his name, but after I asked him a few days ago he told me it was Sifex. I know he defected to the Brotherhood of Makuta some time during the war between Toa and Dark Hunters, seeking an alternative to the violent conflict; a place where he could feel safe. Our fortress is definitely safe, but unfortunately for him, he no longer had a say in things at all, and our missions were certainly not pacifistic. My best guess was that he was placed on my team just to see his reaction to me. If he didn't follow orders, he would be killed by the Makuta. Loyalty notwithstanding, in my group he might actually get killed if he did follow orders, given my unstable nature. Sifex appeared to know this, and did his best to act friendly towards me. I suspected that he used his mind-reading ability to sense my feelings and motives and act accordingly. A good skill to have. At the very least, it would keep him safe as long as I was calm... and sane. We had another few Brotherhood members with us when we started the mission, but they were gone now. One, a Vortixx, had tried to bail on us. He was quickly vaporized for his betrayal. Another, a Skakdi, had been a bit too close to me during a heated battle. Sifex chided me for killing him, as if it was my fault that he couldn't see me swinging a looted pole axe around in a mad frenzy. It didn't take long before the three of us came across another group of Toa, and it didn't take more than the sight of their ugly masks before my rage broke loose again. I don't remember anything from this battle myself, but my Toa friend has filled me in on the details. As I began charging towards the Toa's camp, hissing and screeching like I usually do, the Psionic had realized that they were expecting us. One of them activated his mask of Shielding to hold me off, and I was thrown backwards onto the ground. Sifex quickly used his mental powers to knock the defender off-balance, and I have been told that by the time he fell down, I had gotten back up, more furious than ever. He, however, never got the chance to stand again. While I pounded the life out of the Toa, his comrades descended upon me with swords in hand. At least one of them were on fire. Having no concern for my own well-being – and definitely none for theirs – I grabbed said burning sword by the blade and wrung it from the Toa's grip. One of the others cut another gap in my shoulder armor, before I cut him in half with the flame sword. At this point Sifex didn't want to go into further detail, but from the curious sight that greeted me once my rage subsided, I got that I must have done a lot more than simply cut that Toa. In any case, by this time the Rahkshi of Disintegration had managed to kill two of the enemy group from a safe distance, which meant that only two remained. One activated her mask of Flight a moment before I could grab her, but she didn't get far. Another disintegration beam swiftly turned her into a nice shower of confetti. This left a Toa of Fire, who by now had recovered enough from the shock to unleash his elemental power. Fire doesn't really stop a metallic being who doesn't care about being burned, however. Moments later, the Toa was dead, and my sense of reality slowly came back, allowing me to study the aftermath properly. As usual, there wasn't much to see. A few more burns on my armor and a few shattered Toa. Nothing more.Sometimes, I regret not being able to remember my own exploits. Those who've seen me in action claim that it is a sight to behold. On rare occasions, when there are a few moments when I'm not angry at something, I also feel a bit frightened of myself. I have no control! Some day I will get myself killed in a frenzied battle. Partly due to this, and partly due to Sifex's insights, I have realized that I must learn to control my anger. He told me that even if I can't stop the anger itself, that doesn't mean I can't learn to focus it. If I just concentrate, he says, I can stop myself from going on rampages and instead utilize the rush I feel for more precise destruction. Controlled fury... a very interesting theory. I'm not sure if I believe Sifex when he says it will make me even more fearsome, but I agree that it will help me become more effective. As I sit here writing this, I can feel anger building once more: it takes too long, and it feels like a wasted effort, but Sifex claims that writing down my thoughts will help me focus on them and not lose my grip. Even so, these articulate sentences are beginning to grate on my patience, forcing me to crush a Matoran's neck with my left hand in order to relieve tension enough to type with my right. I can hear Sifex shouting something in the distance, barely audible over the gurgles of the Matoran. I believe he's upset that I'm killing our prisoner. He gave up on trying mental communication with me after he realized my thoughts mostly boiled down to murder and how best to perform it, so he's resorted to normal speech around me. But please, stop with the shouting already, I'm doing the best I can. Sifex, stop shouting. He's not even dead yet. All right, that's it, one more shout and I'll skjdfhIW7YoctIUHBJK5BN48ASJA;LgfvEW8OTFGVThe End
  18. @Terminus24: Yeah, I tried to stick to the original design as much as possible. Had to ditch the "teeth" that I like so much on the set (I used to make the Va bite into apples and stuff ) but I think it was for the best.@Eeko: I agree, it's very flat. I suck at shading at the moment, though, so I didn't dare go any further with it until I've gotten some more practice. The "shaded" version I had just looked bad.@Taka Nuvia: Thank you. I had a head design I found rather cute as well, but it didn't fit the rest of the sketch.
  19. @UltraHau: Yes, I remember Toa's Quest. The main reason why I haven't "set up" a proper site for my game is due to BZP's rules on linking to other forums and the fact that it simply wouldn't get as much traffic as this forum does. I've already felt this when posting the game on the GMC and moderator: Barely anybody plays it. I can link those people back here, but not the other way around.@bulik: I'll try to give you reason to stay as well. @alpha123: Ah, there you are. I've been missing your feedback for the past few months.
  20. Let me put it like this: Last time a topic like this was posted, I ended up compiling a list of video game tunes I like. It reached one and a half page in OpenOffice, and that was just my favorites. I like the music from Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario, Mega Man, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, F-Zero, Golden Sun, Cave Story, Team Fortress, Touhou, Pokémon, Pikmin, and plenty of other games. I love video games.
  21. Ah, yes, I remember that. I'll see if I can find the old link. If not, I'll make a new one to use here. Most of it has been copied into the new character creation screen, but I guess it would be good to have a checklist of working powers.
  22. Got Tahnok from a friend as a sorta-birthday gift. I was already aware of BIONICLE before that, but I never got around to buying any sets until after that. I regret not getting any of the Toa Mata. :/
  23. *Bows head in shame*I know. I simply haven't dared set out on that little programming adventure yet.
  24. I love Team Fortress 2. Played it for years, and it might be my most played game (I have no way of measuring my gameplay time on older consoles such as N64 and Gamecube, but I know it was very high). I "main" Pyro, but I try to use every class when needed. If anyone wants to meet me on the field of battle, I'd be happy to oblige.
  25. Nope, no effect on me except a slight increase in BIONICLE-related drawings. I suddenly got this urge to post stuff now that I couldn't.
