    It is that time again!

    6395 Victory Lap Raceway

Description: Released in 1988, containing 550 parts, 13 minifigs and retail price was about $70 US dollars. Today can be purchased MISB for about 270 bucks. One of the largest sets of its time, it had many features. Including race cars, grand stands, repair equipment/crew, camera equipment/crew, starting grid and an announcers box. This set was ahead of its time I would say and it has become a collectors item.

My take: Had this set at one time, it was hours upon hours of fun. With all the extra vehicles/minifigs, there was just non-stop playability with this set. Sometimes I would add extra base plates to make a full track, other times I would stage a demolition derby! I really do wish I had kept this set. Until next week!

Allright so some of you might remember that Spongebob set I bought awhile back. Well it turns out I may have gotten a misprinted minifig in that set! Look at this:

The bus driver has no face! I have searched about this and found nothing online. Does anyone out here have this set with a misprinted minifig?

Anyone have a guess as to the theme? It seems like it has been forever since we had one of these things. Perhaps some speculation will ease my anxious-ness. I would like to see challenging theme, something like, well, anything but a freebuild!

    Maybe build a landscape?

Whew, okay now to the weekly set!

    6986 Mission Commander

Description: Released in 1989 as a part of the original Space Police series. Retail price was about $60 US dollars, today can be purchased MISB for 250 bucks. Containing 460 parts and 3 minifigs, the set was one of the first larger spaceship sets made by lego. Features included jail cells for the prisoners, interior elements and the pilot area lifts up to reveal a mini land based vehicle.

My Take: Never had this set but I did want it. I liked the original jail cells better than the second series of space police, these ones had bars instead of a windscreen. The ship itself had alot of neat interior elements like a cargo bay and engine room. Until next week!

Well, possibly. I am thinking I should mount this on a larger technic vehicle of some sort. Now that I have technic minifigs I plan on using them! Ill update this entry with the vehicle wips soon so stay tuned.

    NINJA, VANISH!

    6093 Flying Ninja Fortress

Description: Released in 1998 as part of the Ninja line. Retail price was about $60 US dollars. Today this set can be purchased MISB for about 200 bucks and has become a collectors item. Containing 654 parts and 9 minifigs. The set featured a distinct eastern style of buildings, ninja gliders, treasure and plenty of katanas! Samurai and Ninja minifigs could be found and there was also one of those horse minifig thingys.

My take: Never had this set, looks like a blast though. I like the domed towers, glider parts and the minifig headgear. I think there was a skeleton minifig in this set also. The Ninja line has been mostly forgotten over the years, most people prefer to collect the classic Castle sets as opposed to this series. Until next week!

I just came across a strange rumor, though posting a link would only get this entry closed/deleted. Discuss?

I am hoping this rumor is false, has anyone else stumbled upon this?

    Okay, so this just arrived...

Now the box is in very good condition for its age, almost 10 years old now. Should I open it and use its wonderful parts for MoCing, build the set itself or just leave it sealed and let it continue to gain value? I cannot decide!

This week I review a set that was perhaps the basis of the Tarakava.

    8257 Cyber Strikers

Description: Released in 1998 as a part of the Technic Competition line, retail price was about $30 US dollars. Today can be found MISB for about 50 bucks. Containing 367 parts and 2 minifigs(technic), the set featured some vibrant colors. Clearly, this was the dawn of what would become the Tarakava. The action function is nearly identical, as are the tread and handle designs. What is different is the angle of the extending strike, it is a downward angle aimed at the circular target. There was also a sticker sheet included in the set, adding to the collect-ability of it.

My Take: I will soon have this set as I ordered it MISB. When I came across it in the store years ago I instead bought a Muaka/Kane-Ra set. While I do not regret that I do regret not coming back for this set. It looks to have alot of neat parts in teal and purple, not to mention the unique technic minifigs. It also appears to be fun once built, once you strike the target the pilot is ejected from his seat! All in all this is one of those sets that are low on price but big on play-ability and parts. Until next week.

Yes, I am blogging it after I was persuaded to do so, who is watching it?

I admit, I watch it, I was sad to see Edyta go home, her and Julianne are, um, yea. Anyone have picks for the winner? Warren Sapp moves quite well for his size, I want to see the big man win it, just because!

I still refuse to pay 12 bucks for a Mistika set. In fact the only new sets I have actually purchased are Rockoh and Mazeka, which I sold. Do not get me wrong, I want a Gorast/Bitil/Krika just as bad as the next bloke, but I cannot bring myself to shell out the dough.

    So, am I a cheapskate?

It is the solution to the current US economy and deficit. Professional sports athletes and other absurdly high paid people should have to pay a luxury tax. Good old uncle sam.

We shift to Trains this week...

    2150 Train Station

Description: Released in 1996 as a part of the 9 volt train line. Retail price was about $70 Us dollars, today can be found MISB for about 350 bucks. Containing 566 parts and 8 minifigs, it is a big collectors item. The set featured some luggage carts, a mini cafe and boarding times/other info for the minifigs. The interior of the station is kind of basic but you can always snazz it up with more parts.

My take: Never had this set but it would have gone well with my Metroliner train set. It is one of the most sought after train sets, even though there is no train/tracks! I like the overall look of the set, good baseplates and the roof design was well done. Playability increases with a train set of course but the set alone offers alot to do also. Until next week!

Number 9 allready? Time is flying!

    6397 Gas N' Wash Express

Description: Released in 1992 and retail price was about $45-50 US dollars. Today can be purchased MISB for about 100 bucks. Part of the classic city Octan line, the set had 458 parts and 3 minifigs. Featuring your standard gas station stuff like gas pumps, a store interior, car wash and vehicles, there was plenty to keep busy with when built.

My Take: I enjoyed this set quite a bit when I had it. I had extra vehicles and minifigs so that was always adding to the playability of the set. The overall look of the set is true to a gas station I thought. There are also some parts like extra wheels/carrier and a carjack, so you could also do the mechanic thing. Everybody loves the brush parts and the car wash had plenty of these. Until next week!

I so wanted to be there with you, I had it planned, I had MoCs ready, I had dreams. Those dreams were crushed however once again this year. So please give my regards and say hello to the BZPeoples for me, I even had some gifts for them. The only reason I can offer for my absence is REAL LIFE STINKS.

Have fun guys, Ill be looking for all the reports and pictures of the event.

This week I bring you a blast from the not so far past...

    7190 Millennium Falcon

Description: Released in 2000 and retailing for about $80-100 US dollars, this is the original design of the Star Wars series Falcon. Today it can be found MISB for between 275-600 dollars, depending on box condition, truly a gem of the original SW series. Containing 641 parts and 6 minifigs, the set features what have become some of the most desired minifigs out there. I have seen that Princess Leia sell for as much as 60 bucks! The set also featured some unique parts, such as the game board and gunner turret seen in the movies. One of the most desired Star Wars sets out there!

My Take: Finally! I can actually say I have this set! I cannot really elaborate on the playability of it, as I have it in MISB condition and I dare not open it or even touch it. The box is pretty much pristine and I take special care of it. It looks like it could be fun though, there are several interior elements that can be used to re-create your favorite scenes from the movie. Until next week!
