This week I introduce another classic set. After some consideration I decided on....

5590 Whirl N' Wheel Super Truck

Description: From the Model Team series, this was the largest set from that line. Released in 1990 and retailing for about $100.00 US dollars, it can be bought today new and sealed for $400-600 dollars! Quite a collectors item. Containing 1062 parts, the set featured several functions. Most notable is the steering of the semi truck, the extra wheel on the rear of it can be used to steer it. Once built you could remove the trailer from the hitch and load/reload the helicopter, which has spinning propellers. Both models are loaded with details, notice the windshield wipers in the semi truck and the interior of both models. There were many unique parts in this set, from the doors to the windshields and everything in between.

My take: Yes, yet another rare and valuable set I once owned and lost. Gosh I just hate myself now. This set was a blast to play with, sometimes I would use my technic minifig to pilot or drive the models. It is quite large when completed and I got many comments from visitors to our house when it sat on our shelf. One day I even took it to school for show and tell, I was the star of the day! Of course I would love to own this set again, but of course the price is just too high for me to be buying it. Ah well I suppose I can always dream.

    Until next week....

For too long now I have neglected building with purely system parts, even though I have a ton of them. Well with this I can now begin anew. So far I only have like 2 MoCs that are entirely system based, I used to build alot of space stuff as a child and I think its time I try my hand at system again. Any ideas on what I will be doing with these?

Vacation proved to be very productive. Here are some of the highlights of my trip!

First off, we found an amazing shop that was having a going out of buisness sale, they had a raffle for some toys and lego prizes and I spent about 30 bucks on tickets. As it turns out I won 2 AMAZING prizes! I was thrilled and as I promised in my last blog entry, I brought you back a gift BZP!

And the prizes, a rare sealed minifig pack!

And an even RARER 7190 Millenium Falcon, never opened and SEALED, plus there is like no box wear. This is worth a ton of cash.

(Here you can see it is sealed)

After all that excitement we moved on and found this nifty kite shop. They had an assortment of rubber band guns like I have never seen before! Look at that Gatling Gun, I was told it fires like 120 rubber bands a second, for that price it had better! I bought a little colt and some ammo, Ill have some fun with that I am sure. I also bought a Diode 2 handed sport kite to fly on the ocean. That was a blast, they are kind of tricky to fly but I did pretty well.

Well that was about it for the fun stuff, the rest of the time was spent driving and enjoying the beach. Im still in awe over those prizes.

Can you spot the difference between the original (Makuta) Kraahkan and the newer (Tower of Toa, Icarax) Kraahkan?

Some of you know allready I am sure, but do not spoil it for those who do not!

Another week, another classic lego set to be spotlighted, this week it is....

    6399 Airport Shuttle

Description: This is one of the few monorail sets ever released by lego and probably the most desired. It was released in 1991 for a suggested retail price of about $179.99 US dollars. In todays market I have seen this set sell for as much as $1700.00 US dollars in a sealed box, clearly one of the most wanted lego sets ever made. Containing 731 parts and 9 minifigs, the set featured the electric powered monorail and a 2 level track. Once built you can load up the tram car with the minifigs and their luggage, then switch on the motor and watch the tram carry them from point A to point B. The tram opens up on one side to reveal seating. The set came with lots of unique stickers and parts, like the food stand seen just below the staircase. You can also switch around the monorail tracks for new configurations.

My take: I used to have this set when I was younger, I am kicking myself now for losing it. Lots of playability could be had with the set, even more so if you have extra monorail tracks. It is rather large when completed so we had a designated area for it to be displayed in the house. I remember one time I made a 3 level track, it was awesome. While I hope to one day own this set again, the price is just staggering, even for a used set.

    Until next week....

So now that most of us have seen and experienced the summer sets of the year, which do you think are the best overall of 2008? We were graced with new vehicles, old heroes and new villians this year. I think this was the best year for Bionicle since 04, when the Toa Metru ruled. So here is my list for top 6 best sets of the year.

    6. Makuta Icarax The return of the makuta and a sweet set all in all. Plus a neat function.
    5. Axalara T9 Huge and lots of neat functions. This set will keep you busy for quite awhile, the new kanohi is sweet too.
    4. Jetrax T6 Another big set with lots of great parts and playability. Toa Antroz!
    3. Matoran Photok Orange mata feet and new kanohi, nuff said. Also very affordable.
    2. Toa Ignika The skyboard has a ton of useful parts and the set itself is a blast.
    1. Rockoh T3 The part selection is just amazing in this set, great parts in new colors and the set itself is IMO the best of all the vehicles and a bit more affordable.

    Now lets see yours!

Since I discontinued my MoC of the week picks, due to lack of time and other issues, I have decided to introduce a new kind of weekly entry. The Classic set spotlight. The purpose of these weekly entries will be to highlight a classic lego set (2000 or older) with images and a description. This will be the first entry and the first set highlighted will be my all time favorite lego set......

    6989 Mega Core Magnetizer

Description: This set was released in 1990 and was part of the M-Tron space series. The largest set of the series, it had a retail price of about $50.00 US dollars. Containing 485 parts and 3 minifigs, the set also featured magnets as all the M-Tron series did. Once built, the set could be rolled around on its 6 wheels and pivoted between the last set of tires. The crane seen on the rear of the vehicle could be used to lift and drop the storage units with tools or mini vehicles pictured. Each of these had its own designated area on the main vehicle. The 2 rover type vehicles are stored in the sides below the crane, the flying mini vehicle is stored in a compartment in the rear with an open/close hatch and the 2 tool storages are placed just behind the trans green windscreen. All of them can be reached and dropped with the pivoting crane.

My take: I used to have this set as a child, and I loved playing with it. Endless fun removing all the items with the magnets and playing with the minifigs. Whether it was a recon, reload or refuel mission, this set could handle it all for the young imagination. The storage units had mini tools and hoses/nozzles with tiny ropes in them and the crane worked perfectly. One day I hope to own this set again.

Well thats it, look for another classic lego set next week!

I was a bit let down that the local Wal-Mart was sold of of Rockoh T3 sets. So I needed a little boost, I think this worked out nicely. And while I am talking about Rockoh, have you guys seen the part selection in that set? It has like 4 silver kal shields, 2 or 3 matoro shoulder armors, 3 lime green Inika shoulder armors and like 4 of those Y shaped plus rods. I gotta get it!

So I was recently given the green light to ship freely, man I have been waiting forever to be able to do this. I have opened up a store at a certain site and will probably open up a topic in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum soon. Plus I can finally repay some old (and I mean OLD) debts.

Once I get some buyers I should have some postive feedback, I have only done one minor trade here so I have a long way to go in becoming a trusted trader. Wish me luck guys!

It seems that scientists have finally discovered the energy source of the colorful Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. They found that the energy comes from a stream of charged particles from the sun flowing like a current through twisted bundles of magnetic fields connecting Earth's upper atmosphere to the sun.

The energy is then abruptly released in the form of a shimmering display of lights visible in the upper latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. In March, satellites detected a burst of northern lights, or auroras borealis, over Alaska and Canada. During the two-hour light show, the satellites measured particle flow and magnetic fields from space.

To scientists' surprise, the geomagnetic storm powering the auroras raced 400 miles in a minute across the sky. The storms estimated power was equal to the energy released by a magnitude 5.5 earthquake.

Simply fascinating and beautiful, I can sometimes see the lights here if I look to the north. If you have never seen them it is really something to behold. It is almost hypnotic the way the lights move and fade in and out of various colors.

Update, further information was released today. Read Here.

Okay I got a big decision to make today. Im going to TRU, they have confirmed they have the new summer sets, I am on a budget of about 70 bucks so I narrowed it down to this.

    ~Purchase Jetrax T6 and 2 Mistika
    ~Purchase Takanuva and Rockoh T3
    ~Purchase Takanuva and 3 Mistika
    ~Purchase 2 Takanuva

So its either Takanuva or Jetrax for sure, I am leaning toward Taka/Rockoh as I need the Rockoh parts. However 2 Takanuva sets is also tempting. Please help! I leave soon and I need some advice, these will be my first summer sets of the year. Expect pics of course when I get them.

Ill be inactive for the next 4 days as I am going on vacation. Man I really need it this year too. Me and the family are headed to the coast, probably gonna cruise around Aberdeen, Ocean Shores, maybe even check out the hot springs. Like last year, Ill have pictures when we return from the trip. Hopefully I can find some Mistika over there while we are out shopping. The weather does not look very promising though, but wind means that I should be able to break out the kite along the beach.

So Ill see you all when I return, I promise Ill bring BZP back a souvenir of some sort.
  14. CzaR
    Interesting

Maybe I can make a few bucks doing this. Ill be monitoring this auction closely, the asking price is a bit high if you ask me though. Surprised, I was.

Okay lots of stuff to cover today for the big finale. First of all there were yet more accessories unveiled today! I got some more info on the Wii MotionPlus so Ill cover that first.

The Wii MotionPlus attachment plugs in to the bottom of the Wii Remote. It adds about an inch and a half to the length of the controller and includes a pass-though port for the Nunchuk. The MotionPlus' port cover folds into the Nunchuk's connector to stay out of the way when the Nunchuk is connected. The MotionPlus has a lock that keeps the add-on attached if you're not using the rubber Wii jacket that comes with the accessory.

When you're throwing the Frisbee in the Disc Dog game, the MotionPlus' sensor detects how you're holding the disc in hand. If you rotate your wrist slightly, the Frisbee will rotate up or down onscreen in response. The Wii Remote, MotionPlus, and Nunchuk become handle bars in the Power Cruising Jet Ski racing game. Rotating the Wii Remote with the MotionPlus attached activates the throttle just like on a motorcycle or personal water scooter. Sadly, we will not be seeing this until Spring of next year.

Next we have the Novint Falcon Pistol, possibly the next big thing in shooting games. The controller simulates the kickback of guns so you know if you're firing a shotgun or a Magnum. The controller even does a great job of simulating different walks, runs, and jumps, amongst many other effects.

Here we have this ingenious little invention called Level Head from Indie Games which could open a new door for some of the smaller game developers. It looks really fun and unique. Put together using Ubuntu Linux, a webcam, and a printer, Level Head is a neat new puzzle game. The game works via image recognition, using coloured cubes printed with 3D bar codes that are interpreted by a connected webcam. When the software reads the image, it turns it into a 3d maze onscreen, and you tilt the cube itself to move a man inside. Once you've made it through a series of doors, you move on to another coloured cube, and you keep going until you get through all of the blocks.

And of course, this entry could not be complete without some screenshots from some of the big games at E3.

    Halo Wars:

    New Animal Crossing:

    Sonic Unleashed:

    Fable II:

    Final Fantasy XIII:

    Chrono Trigger DS:

Well thats all folks, it was a grand show this year at E3!

Well day 2 is coming to an end. Highlights for today include lots of accessories and stage demos from Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet. Chrono Trigger DS and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars continue to look like amazing new DS games also. Im really wanting to get either a PS3 or Xbox 360 now, with the Xbox price drop coming up soon it will probably be my choice. Here are some more images of a few of todays favorites!

First up we have the Media Hub+, Nyko's new port expansion unit for the PlayStation 3. The hub uses a precious USB slot on your PS3 but it's a good investment because the unit provides three additional USB ports and a memory card reader compatible with memory sticks and SD memory cards. The Media Hub+ basically gives back the two USB ports and memory card reader Sony stripped from the 40 GB PlayStation 3. Really cool.

Here is the WiiSpeak Microphone and the Logitech Wii Keyboard (YES!)

Lastly I bring you these sweet looking new cases for your PSP and DS, I WANT one.

Well thats all for today, Ill have a lengthy entry for the big conclusion of E3 tomorrow, enjoy!

Lots of big announcements yesterday, I am currently getting caught up with todays events. Microsoft probably had the biggest impact yesterday, Final Fantasy XIII announced for Xbox 360, along with several other games and a price drop. Nintendo announced the Wii Motion Plus accessory, which looks to be another bold step, hopefully it pays off like the Wii launch did. Here are some screenshots of some of my upcoming favorites, look for an E3 day 2 update soon.

    Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe:

    Resident Evil 5:

    Prince of Persia:

    Spore:

    Fatal Inertia:

I had to go shopping for some things today, so I went to Rite Aid and found this for sale at 5 bucks!

At last I have a little bit more brown, maybe now I can actually build another MoC with brown. To date I have only ONE build with brown parts. They also had some rhotuka spinner packs but I have a ton of those anyway.

So I was watching Larry King tonight, they had a panel of high ranking government officials on claiming they each had an encounter with UFOs. They have said the United States government remains reclusive on the subject, though France, Brazil and China have released information confirming the existance of UFOs. They claim the US plans to weaponize space and views them as threats to society and religion, hence the classification of information. Upon the release of this info in the other countries, there was panic and the infrastructure (internet, telephone) was overloaded with curious people. Even the Vatican, perhaps the center of christianity views UFOs as real.

Several videos and reports were quite convincing to me, I do believe that we are not alone in the universe, it is so huge, how could we be the only intelligent life? I have never had any kind of sighting or encounter with a UFO, but there is just too much information out there to dismiss it. Indeed, I believe the people would panic and religion would be thrown into turmoil if this info was made public and proof of UFOs was revealed. Perhaps the government is waiting for the proper time, I do not think society is ready for these things yet myself.

So I ask you, do you believe there is life beyond the stars? Truly a facinating subject. I leave you with some images of UFO sightings over Europe, the US and other locations. The last 2 images are more recent ones.

There is a wildfire burning about 2 miles from here, most likely started by lightning or fireworks, I can see all the smoke from my house. Dangit, now everybody here is going to be all sensitive about lighting off my pyrotechnic supply. Oh well, I am not gonna hold back just because of some lousy wildfire. I have doused the perimeter of our house with the garden hose and I take every precaution possible.

Besides, how can I deny the kid on the holiday?
  21. CzaR
1.Which Mistika are you getting first?

2.Which Mistika do you think has the most MoCing potential?

3.Do you like the Vehicle Toa designs better than the original ones?

4.Which Mistika should I get first?
  22. CzaR
Today I am going to make my fireworks run, probably gonna spend about 30-50 bucks on them. I plan on getting artillery shells for sure, they are my favorite kind of fireworks. Also Im gonna pick up some colored sparklers and fountians for the kid, maybe even some of the saturn missile battery packs. Pics of the haul will be uploaded later today so stay tuned!

As promised, my haul, only got my favorite pyrotechnics. Not much, but I spent 30 bucks on it. Those are the biggest sparklers I have ever seen!:

What kind of stuff do you plan on buying for the holiday?
  23. CzaR
So I went to TRU today, in hopes of finding some Mistika. Of course, there were none, however, for 10 bucks, this set is a must have. It has some of the best part and color selection in any ten dollar set I have ever had. Most notably the 2 Y shaped plus rods you get in the set.
