  1. bringing back the old memes and [anything to do with] sig fads

Also, it would really be necessary to have a surge in old-style art (epics, MOCs, and art, in our case) beyond this "study" of the past. Unfortunately, our techniques haven't really changed beyond changes in parts available for MOCs.

  2. Derp. Yeah, that's more or less what I was thinking, but I was composing the comment hastily and the actual sentence I ended up typing sounds cringingly moronic. XP I did actually intended to speak more of interactions.

    ~B~

I had a feeling you meant that, but that sort of a goof-up can derail a thread quickly, so I tried to clarify a bit more. :)

  3. @dotcom: Honestly, I've expected this for a long time, since it puts FiM at 65 episodes, perfect for syndication. Most shows go about getting to 65 through 5 13-episode seasons, but plenty chose to go FiM's route. It's too bad, but it makes sense. I, like everyone else in the comments here, wish we could get more high-quality FiM.

(Besides, I wasn't posting to you either way; that was directed at the inaccurate "cartoons are getting shorter nowadays" comment. :P You even said that it was standard!)

  4. You mean eleven-minute episodes? Because those have also been around forever (e.g., Spongebob Squarepants at 11 to 12, KND at 11 to 12, Looney Tunes at 6 to 10, Phineas and Ferb--one of the more clever shows, and extremely popular with adults even--at 11 to 12; all sketch comedy is based on very short skits rather than long "episodes").

Plus, that's not what's happening with MLP.

  5. Actually, guys, thirteen-episode seasons are pretty common. In this case, it'll bring FiM up to 65 episodes total, typical for syndication.

cartoons are getting shorter and shorter these days

And it's not an issue with "these days." As early as the 1960s, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? has approx. 13.67 episodes per season. Within your childhood, Kids Next Door had thirteen "whole" (i.e., half-hour) episodes per season. The same is true of The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and Invader Zim. A bunch of other cartoons had around seventeen to twenty episodes each season, and these were particularly successful productions. (Sadly, I cannot compare FiM's success with that of these other cartoons, since I can't find any data, and the prevalence of MLP merchandise might confuse the issue. I'd appreciate any information, though. :shrugs:)

There was a Kung Fu Panda cartoon (from last year, still running) that went the same route as FiM, and The Penguins of Madagascar (from four years ago, still running) had 22 "whole" episodes per season. There's no huge "trend" in cartoon lengths, nor in talking down to children.

You shouldn't talk so much like a millenarian or an old coot. Your frame of reference goes back around ten years. It's just silly.

  6. And as for atoms in the brain being self-aware, well, they just are, I guess.

It's not the atoms that are self-aware. It's not the arrangement of atoms either. Awareness is an emergent behavior, so it comes from the interaction of neurons (and thus organelles, atoms, etc.).

  7. For clarification, I mean Personal Messages and--I think--notifications. The last time I went to the home page was weeks ago. :P (Every time I see the search button now, I think "Who's PM'd me?") Anyway, if you don't want to change it, that's fair enough. I just thought that the old pinkish color might be better on the search bar and for page numbers (where it was used before).

  8. I like the skin although the red just catches the eyes a little too much in my opinion. I get easily distracted by it so it makes me forget what I was reading.

I'm seconding this opinion. It's a bit unsettling since a similar red had been used in the previous skin to point out new PMs and such. Perhaps something in the vein of the old pinkish red would work better?

  9. It was originally filmed for IMAX (or something to that effect), which allows a greater frame rate and generally clearer picture, so it's got that going for it. Plus, according to one guy who works as a projector, Bane's voice sometimes causes an imbalance or something with the bass in non-IMAX theaters.

I haven't had a chance to see TDKR, so I don't personally know. If you're the type to re-watch a movie multiple times while it's still in theaters, it might be a good idea to try to see it in IMAX.

  10. How did you align the image like that because that's cool.

I just chose it as the "Entry Image" and typed as normal, which caused the text to align by the side of the image. Since the picture was of an appropriate length, all of the text ended up right along its edge.
