  1. Man, I can't even begin to understand what being transgender must feel like.

All I can say is that I'm proud of you for coming out even when you were afraid. We don't really know each other, but I've come to respect you greatly and want you to know that you have my full support, if that means anything.

Also, if I may ask, where did you get those statistics from? I've never seen them until today and I want to know where they came from.

  2. I don't usually care. The book's contents matter to me more than its style of binding (unless the binding is atrocious, that is).

I will say, though, that I tend to lean toward paperback, as they are easier to carry around and are cheaper than hardcovers. If it's a new book, though, and I really want it right away, I will buy the hardcover version (as I have been doing with the Heroes of Olympus series recently).

  3.

I'd say mid-to-late May at the latest. May possibly be sooner

Okay, so how exactly are you going to make the month of May come sooner? ;)

(He has a time machine =O RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! *realitysplosion*)

D'oh! I meant "Possibly sooner." Sorry for the mistake.

  4. I feel the same way about my writing. When I was younger, I used to think Greg Farshtey's Bionicle books were the greatest fiction books ever written and I tried imitating his style of plotting and characterization (with some success, I'd say).

Nowadays, though, while I still do think Greg's a good writer and still do enjoy the Bionicle books, I recognize Greg's style is not perfect nor is it for everyone and if I want to improve or succeed in writing I have to move beyond that to something more.

For me, at least, I think this signifies that my tastes are growing up with me. And that's definitely not a bad thing, IMO (not that I'm implying you were saying that about yourself. Just saying that about me, if that makes sense).

  5. Did you try NintendoLand at all? Just wondering since I thought a lot of games in that were pretty fun.

Haven't tried NintendoLand yet. The Wii-U technically belongs to my older brother and I'm not sure he's okay with us playing it when he's not around. But we'll probably try out NintendoLand soon, I'm sure.

  6. You could try downloading (for free) OpenOffice--it can usually open MSWord files. I hope you can get your files back soon. =]

Just tried downloading OpenOffice and it didn't work, unfortunately. Not sure what the problem is, but it may be due to our computer's lack of RAM.

But if I can figure out and resolve the problem, I'll probably download OpenOffice. It sounds nice from what I've heard of it, but for now it will have to wait.

  7. Yyyyeah, something strange is going on with your laptop if you're running out of RAM so quickly. Unfortunately there are a ton of possible causes, so it's kind of hard for me to troubleshoot. =P

Though, I've been a little confused by these posts - is it hard disk space you're running out of, or RAM?

It's RAM. If it helps, I have an Acer Aspire 3680 with Windows Vista. We've had it since 2007, so it's pretty old, although it has been holding up pretty well despite how regularly we use it.

Right now, all I can tell is that the RAM is being inconsistent. Currently it is at 1.39 GB, but earlier it was around 400 MB. All without me deleting or adding anything, so I have no idea what's causing the RAM to increase/decrease so quickly.

  8. @GSR: We've pretty much did all of that, which has helped a little but not a whole lot. Thanks for the advice anyway, though.

@InnerRayg: Done that, at least for my story files. As for other files, it's hard to tell which ones are necessary to keep the computer from exploding and which ones aren't, so we haven't really been deleting any of those or even backing them up on an external harddrive. As you can tell, I'm not particularly computer literate :P .

  9. Too many comments to respond to individually, so I'll just say that you all offer very good reasons to join the Ambage. As a matter of fact, I considered most of the reasons before, but was still hesitant because I wasn't sure if the Ambage was for me.

I'll try it out, I think, at least for a little while. If I like it I'll definitely stick with it for as long as I can.

There is one last thing I'd like to mention. We've (and by "we" I mean myself and fellow hosts -- Nuile, Tolkien, Cederak, 5 5's) been wanting to have some sort of "workshop" "program" for Ambage members. We've all been pretty busy, but hopefully over Christmas break we'll be able to implement something. I'm not sure if this will change your decision in any way, but I know that I personally would love a sort of "workshop" where I can share ideas, parts of stories, etc. Even full stories. Just a place where I can get advice from fellow writers (which I mean, the Ambage does that now -- there's almost always some people who are willing to look at a piece of writing of yours, or discuss an idea you have, or whathaveyou).

Actually, that's another reason I reconsidered joining the Ambage. I'd love to be involved with something like that. It sounds like it could be really awesome if done right.

  10. http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/kaukau.gif Dang, this makes me feel pretty bad, considering that my story right now is only 61k, and I've taken a break. Which means that someone out there has an epic that's more epic than mine. However, I predict that when I'm done, the first book of my epic will be 120k words, give or take, but probably give. And then I can feel good about myself and stick my tongue out at you.

You know what the sad thing for people like us is, though? Nobody ever reads our stuff. We're eternally doomed to the realms of obscurity as our text collects dust and people take one look at the length and think "Nope nope nope."

You make a good point about nobody reading longer works. It doesn't bother me too much, though, because I'm not writing for fame (although I admit fame is pretty nice).

Then again, 70,000 to 100,000 words is pretty average for published books and people read those all the time. If I were you, I wouldn't give up hope that you will be read someday even if you regularly write and publish books that are a little longer than 100,000 words.

  11. http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/kaukau.gif Just because he understood that she was cool doesn't mean that he has to marry her, silly. It's good enough that he asked her to accompany him to a club party instead. Seriously, He was Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived, the Boy Who Rescued Hogwards from the Basilisk, Youngest Quidditch Player, Seeker, Quidditch Captain, Triwizard Champion, Leader of Dumbledore's Army, The Boy Who Lived Again, The Boy Who Lived Yet Again, and the best caster of the Patronus around. Asides from Slytherin girls, he could have anyone he liked.

I was just joking around. Perhaps I should have made that clearer. I don't care who Harry got to be with, really. Not a shipper.
